I’m using InDesign to create a magazine. I’d like to remove the background for some of the photos I’ve placed. Usually I would use:Edit > Edit with… > PhotoshopHowever, ‘Photoshop’ isn’t popping up as an option. Instead, Adobe Express Beta is the only usable option. As such, I tried using Adobe Express’s new Beta feature to remove the background. It does a great job-- however, once you hit ‘APPLY’, it seems to automatically save the photo as a .jpg without giving you the option to save it as any other file type (that I can find, anyway). This makes the whole thing a bit pointless, as the background is just white instead of transparent due to the file type. For context, the pages are black. A white box for a background is worse than if I just left the normal background. I might just be unfamiliar with the new feature, but is there any way to save those images as a .png instead of the automatic .jpg? Windows 11/64 - INDD 2026 up-to-date - Intel Ultimate 9 3.5 - 96 Gig Ram - Nvdia 5080I am trying to finish a historical quarterly and InDesign is inserting spaces between words that I cannot remove. I have the main photo on a A3 document.  Around the side will be detailed photos or text of a particular spot on the main photo.  I will have line going from the selected spot on the main photo going to the relevant frame.  is there a way of anchoring the line to the spot on the main photo and the frame, whereby when I move the detail frame the line remains ‘attached’ to it?  Currently, if I have to move the detail photo, I then have to select the appropriate line and move the end of it.  That is a real pain and, hopefully, there is a solution.    

 I’ve been working on making an ADA Compliant PDF for weeks. Everything is great except for the read order specifically in table headers. Accessibility Tags are in the correct order. I installed the latest update to version 21, and InDesign won't launch. It doesn't give any errors, but it won't start. It doesn't do anything at all. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling it, but that didn't work. Version 20 works perfectly, even the beta version 20.6. I tried reinstalling it by deleting the preferences, but that didn't work. I tried reinstalling the Creative app and reinstalling InDesign, but that didn't work.Bridge does the same thing, but it gives me error OXC0000142. InDesign, on the other hand, doesn't have any errors. Old Bridge works, but the beta version doesn't I have windows 11 last updatedWhat can I do?Thanks a lotNicola

Just clean installed on a new Mac. I used to be able to use my Microsoft bluetooth numpad keyboard to bind shortcuts to paragraph/character styles, but InDesign doesn't want that anymore. The field will stay blank, but the shortcut still works… 

I have created an A5 InDesign document. I need to print pages double sided, two A5 pages per side. I had no trouble doing this in Publisher but it seems impossible from InDesign! It is shrinking the A5 page down, increasesing the margin I've double checked the page size and that's all correct. and the printer handles all this fine with Publisher. Has anyone an easy solution? This seems like a pretty simple request to me!

Hi,Getting an issue with indesign and not recognising the calibri system font installed. From what I can see, there’s a new version of calibri with a latest windows update. V6.26 > V6.27.   Myself and colleagues are effected, and this is spanning across a lot of our documents. Replacing the font does not fully solve the issue as any forms text fields will not update to the font box.  I’ve seen a similar post regarding this with the same issue on times new roman which is marked as resolved but it most certainly not.  FYI, installing calibri via adobe fonts does not work, we are getting a conflict likely due to it already being a system font. We also running the latest version of indesign. Any help on this?

I have a top of the line machine. i9-14900k, Radeon 9070XT, 64gb DDR5 RAM, and a fast NVME drive.InDesign lags more than any adobe program, because of the AI Generated Alt Text, which is enabled by default and I cannot disable it, as I have a pro plan.Every time I drag an image onto a file, it lags for a good 5 seconds while the AI generated text does its thing. I want to disable this feature fully. I do not use any AI in InDesign.Please recommend a way to permanently disable this feature, as it nearly doubles my working time on any document, lagging with every adjustment. If I have to edit something in the registry to do so, or block something on a firewall, so be it. Please release me from this torture

A long time ago I had a tab open that explained how to find a font that contained a specific glyph, but it’s been lost to too many updates. Who knows how to use InDesign to find a font that has a specific (semi-obscure, an asterism) glyph?

Hi I am running the latest version of Adobe CC InDesign 2026 and am having real issues packaging the document and it’s associated links.I have no errors on the document and all linked files are located within a links folder i have created within the folder structure. All links are stored on One Drive cloud.Also the software keeps crashing when attempting to package.The below alert keeps appearing. No idea what this means or what it relates to? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.Thanks

I too am having problems with the 'Smart Guides' option being grayed out in the 'View' - 'Grids and Guides' column. I've replaced the preferences, checked all the appropriate boxes, yet nothing I do works. Additionally, the 'Smart Guides' did work for some time. However, for reason(s) I'm unaware of, they just stopped showing up. I'm stumped. Any suggestions?

I tried clicking the left mouse button repeatedly, but that didn’t seem to work.It seems that only double-clicking to select a word or triple-clicking to select an entire line works.However, when adjusting a specific column or page, it can also be useful to select the text in the current column or on the current page. 

I exporting a one page document with some photos as interactive PDF and print PDF results in drastically different file sizes (83MB vs 1.7MB) even though the compression, quality and ppi settings are the same. So I played around with the export of the interactive PDF and noticed some strange behaviors I cannot explain: Reducing the compression, quality and ppi to the bare minimum still results in a very big PDF file size (around 60MB). Having photos embedded instead of linked inside InDesign increases the PDF file size for some reason.  Deleting all the photos from the document only reduces the PDF file to around 40MB, even though there now is only some text visible in the exported PDF.  Only once every single photo is deleted from the InDesign document, the PDF file size gets down to a reasonable 97KB. So simply having photos in the pasteboard actually directly increases the PDF file size! The fix is easy: Export as print PDF, works perfectly. But can anyone explain any of the points

Hi gang, I wish there was some sort of comparison table showing which accessibility new feature/improvement goes with which output medium: PDF or EPUB. Every next patch and version of InDesign announces a new accessibility feature improvement, but it rarely indicates whether it is for accessible epub or for accessible pdf. Help me make such a definitive list?

Hey everyone, my command+Z shortcut for »Undo« doesn't work in Indesign, and I can't find the source of error. The problem is Indesign-specific, because the rest of the Adobe programs work with command+Z, as do all other programs on my laptop. For more that 20 years I have used InDesign in the same way. My saved workspace goes back probably 10 years. But with the last release or so, all the panels behave differently. I have always had all my panels (swatches, Align, character, Pagagraph, etc) dock in the right side of the frame in a small stack. If I clicked on one, it popped out and I could do my work, then click on it again and it would nest back in. Now my workspace is constantly reseting, the panels on the right don’t react to a click. I have to pull them out to float to use them. What happened and where is the change documented?

HI. I stupidly updated InDesign today, I know, I know my bad, I should have learnt long ago.It launches to full screen then nothing totally frozen until I force quit it. I guess, yet again I will have t0 wipe it reinstall it then go through all the hassle of putting the panels etc where I need them because in 2026 indeisgn still cannot save this simple preference. In the desperate hope there is a more simple solution, does anyone have any advice?
