For the past year this program has become slow and unresponsive to the point of being completely unusable. Any command that I give the software is followed by a 5-15 second lag on average - this is not an exaggeration. This problem persists with existing documents, INDD and INDL, as well as with brand new documents saved to my desktop. For example: Create a new document. When the document loads, create text box and begin to type. 15 seconds later the letters appear in the box. Actions taken during the lag are ignored by the software. Other applications on my machine are also significantly impacted by this performance issue, even the mouse stutters and freezes. Trying to use other software while InD is "thinking" can often result in the other applications to show a (not responding) error. Because InD is so unresponsive, I need to use Task Manager to force close - even this process can take up to a minute to complete. I'm not certain, but I believe the problem with lag is
ID 20.3.1, macOS 14.8.2. When different users open the same document, with the same fonts installed, the line case changes. I suspect some underlying setting in the program, but what should I look for?
I designed a guidebook using facing pages. I am now designing an ebook version using single (not facing) pages. I cleared the Facing Pages check box in the Document Setup window and saved the file. The Pages panel shows only one page spreads, both for the parent pages and for the body pages. The body pages also appear only as one page spreads.I created a Back button and a Next button in the footer of the parent page. I added Go to previous page actions to the Back button (on release or tap and on click) and Go to next page actions to the Next button. I exported to an interactive PDF. When I click the Back button, it goes back two pages rather than one. When I click the Next button, it goes forward two pages rather than one. What am I doing wrong?I am using Adobe InDesign 21.2 x64
Hello, even though I completely uninstalled InDesign (including all old versions) and then reinstalled it, I’m still experiencing the same bug: when I open another InDesign document, suddenly the Command-Z shortcut stops working. I'm using the latest version of InDesign and macOS Sequoia — though this issue has been happening for years across different versions of InDesign and macOS. Can anyone help? It’s incredibly frustrating and such a waste of time.
Dear all,I’ve created a paragraph style for the main text of an article. The type family that I’m using includes two shapes for lowercase a: two-story a (default) + one-story a (alternate (stylistic set 7) looking like Futura’s).I want to use the alternate a, so I’ve activated stylistic set 7 under OpenType Features in my paragraph style. For some words inside this paragraph, I’d like to bring back the default a.Been scratching me head, I can’t figure it out. I read posts on forums, using scripts and GREP aren’t new to me, but I’d like to know if there’s a standard way – not hardcoding the letter – for such a case. If not, is it an OpenType limitation, a type mastering’s limitation, or a software’s limitation? Thanks in advance for you help/ideas!(using InDesign CC 2019 on macOS Monterey 12.7.6)
using Adobe InDesign version 21.2 x64.In previous versions (up to version 17), the order of diacritic marks (e.g., Kasra then Shadda) affected their positioning—allowing the Kasra to appear correctly under the letter instead of under the Shadda. However, recent versions strictly enforce Unicode mark-to-mark positioning, causing the Kasra to always appear under the Shadda regardless of input order, which negatively impacts classical Arabic typography. Moreover, I have found that disabling ligatures restores the correct placement of the Kasra under the letter, but turning off ligatures for an entire large project (like an 800-page book) is impractical and disrupts the overall text appearance and quality.Importantly, this issue is not caused by the font itself. The font used, KFGQPC Uthman Taha Naskh, behaves correctly in Microsoft Word, respecting the input order of diacritics and displaying the Kasra under the letter as expected. This clearly indicates that the problem lies within InDesig
For three days I’ve been getting new errors (attached) on two multi-page almost-completed files I’ve been working on for weeks. I’m running the latest update from Creative Cloud. Even uninstalled and reinstalled an older version to see if it was a bug in the latest update. Worked for a couple of hours but first thing this morning I got errors on both files again. Created brand new InDesign files and copy/pasted text and graphics from the old to see if that would help. Didn’t.
Tenia mi portada armada en indesig, donde he colocado un enlace de ilustrador que tiene fotos.pero ahora me da el problema que si hago un cambio las fotos se desaparecen. Antes eso no pasaba, ahora que será que esta dando ese problema
I recently updated my InDesign 26 version to interim version 21.2 and this preference doesn’t seem to be working anymore. I have the “Default Relink Folder” in the File Handling preference set to “Most Recent Relink Folder”.Previously when I had say 10 InDesign documents in a folder, I would open the first and relink to my Links folder that is not in the same folder as the InDesign documents. Then every subsequent InDesign file in that folder that I would open would look to that Links folder I just linked to and update appropriately. Since this interim update, that preference doesn’t seem to work and I have to browse to the links folder again for each InDesign document.Hoping I am missing something or that this can get fixed. Thanks,Don
Two issues here with the Share for Review lately in Indesign (and partially in Illustrator)It seems to be constantly “erroring” when I do a content update OR try to change the preview name (this is also happening in AI). Though when I click the link to view both seem to actually be updated and yet it’s giving me the red error dialogue box on almost every update so I’m never quite sure if this is actually a working feature or not... !!!! SECOND and more importantly,****** the comment pins from Share for Review are irregularly not displaying– I’ll have one document show them fine and another not display at all.As in the comment pins are viewable through a browser window, but from within Indesign the comment pins do not show on the spread (I’m not in preview mode and all pins are set to be visible). This is not client/user error either as they display perfectly fine in the browser, but you can imagine it’s a bit finicky and frustrating to constantly be swapping back to the browser to chec
I have tried everything but my colors keep changing from the original InDesign document when I export to an interactive PDF. The Transparency Blend Space is set to Document RGB, and every swatch is in RGB as well. What it’s supposed to look like… What it looks like on export… The gold and light blue are especially different. Here’s a pic of my color settings: As you can see, my color settings are synced across all Adobe apps. Please help!
I am about to lose it! Running latest InDesign on Windows. Two time-consuming files that I’ve been working on for weeks are now both generating the attached errors. I need help!
The latest InDesign can no longer export to Tagged Text. Has somebody written a script to replicate the function? I need it sorely!
Freight Sans on adobe font site does not sit in the text box (indesign) the same way the Pro version does. It sits lower within the box, while the Pro version aligns with the top of the box. I have work with Pro version that now when font replaced need to be manually fixed. Problem because coworkers still have Pro version and we all work on same files. Any suggestions?
A search on this question brings up two incorrect suggestions:Drag the page into the master-page area in the Pages pane; this is not allowed. Right-click on the page and use a context-menu option to create a parent page from it; there is no such menu item.Is there a real way to do it?
Long-time InDesign user (next month 20 years!), curently using an iMac 6-Core i5, Big Sur and up to date CS. This might be an MacOS issue but I can't find a way to fix it via the OS. When I attempt to place an image into an InDesign document, the menu that I see doesn't show modification dates or even display the date added information so I can't sort by date modified or date added... The only way I can see file modification dates is if I use column view and then I can't sort the folder contents (We have so many nested folders on the server that column view is useless anyway) Has anyone else run into this and if so, how did the fix it?Thank you,
Many embedded objects and images blurred. all display settings set to high.
Hey everyone, happy MAX! We are thrilled to introduce the new Flex Layout feature in InDesign. Flex Layout lets you create frames that automatically adjust as content changes. Objects are arranged using properties such as direction, spacing, padding, and alignment. As content is added, removed, or resized, the layout adapts seamlessly, eliminating the need for manual adjustments. Update the App Download the latest version and dive into the new Adobe InDesign features. Adobe InDesign 21.0 To update InDesign 21.0, click "Update" in the Creative Cloud desktop app next to InDesign. More detailed instructions for updating. When packaging a file, I would like the system to scan the linked files for other connected links and include those links in the package. Ex.) In the InDesign link, I have a PSD link that points to an Illustrator art board.
HelloI have received some CDs in an old Mac Version of QuarkXpress that I would like to bring into InDesign in Windows 11. I believe the files are 3.0 or earlier. No filename extensions as expected. I do not have any budget, This is for a history book for my local sailing club. So, MarkZware is unfortunately not an option. any suggestions, please?Thank you
Hello, I need to create an Arabic version of a brochure. My InDesign is in Italian and I don't understand how to activate RTL because after selecting the “Adobe World Ready” composition in the “Paragraph” panel, I don't see any new icons/buttons as shown on this Adobe page:https://helpx.adobe.com/it/indesign/using/arabic-hebrew.htmlObviously, I would like to continue using the Italian version of InDesign because 99.999% of my work is in Italian. Thanks
why isn’t my image turning black and white if the the blend mode is on luminosity and the box is filled in black??see below
To the InDesign Product Team,I am writing to provide feedback on the Place and Link (Content Collector) workflow. While the ability to sync text content across a document is invaluable, the current implementation of the "Parent-Child" relationship is overly restrictive and creates significant manual rework for designers. The Problem: Currently, when a Parent object is updated, the Child object frequently reverts its font size, frame dimensions, and character treatment to match the Parent—even when "Preserve Local Overrides" is enabled. While "Style Mapping" exists as a workaround, it is an overly complex solution for a simple design need: keeping the words synced while keeping the design independent. The Proposed Solution: I request a more intuitive "Link Options" toggle that allows a Child object to permanently lock its local formatting. Specifically: Content-Only Sync: A high-level checkbox that tells the Child to only accept string (text) updates, ignoring all Parent-side attributes l
Many of my embedded images/objects are blurred. Why does InDesign suddenly do this? All display settings set to ‘high’.
I am working on a table figure in InDesign, and around a mounth ago I started having an issue with placing illustrator files into the table. For some reason, some of the elements in the illustration disapear once I place them into indesign. File in illustrator:Placed in InDesign:When I export the file (I have 6 of those illustrations) the R, L or both just disapear. I tried changing the font or making them into vectors so it won't be a font problem, but nothing works. The only solution was placing PNG file instead, but it lowers the quality, so it is not desirable. I tried also uninstaling and reinstalling. At the beginning the problem was fixed if I closed and opend InDesign, but now it does'n help as well. I don't know how to solve the problem.
