InDesign

Currently, I convert .indd to .idml manually using Adobe InDesign (File → Save As → Choose file format type -> choose the location → save).Can this process be automated via an API so it run without requiring Adobe InDesign to be installed? Is there any official API available for this?

Looking for a script or create one where I can run it based on paragraph style. Essentially anything with that style, it would go to a website I want it to, search the site, find the result and grab the url and hyperlink the text in that style. An example would be looking for bible passages based on whether it be niv, esv, etc. the script would run on text in a style, a passage then search on the site I want it to, with say niv selected and then grab the result and hyperlink the text. Anyone seen anything like this? Script the best approach or something else? Thanks.

I have a suggestion regarding InDesign (version 20.5.3.x64).Currently, the feature for overset text displays the character count and percentage. However, it would be much more helpful to also have a word count option. Many vernacular languages, including Kannada (which I use for a newspaper publication), rely primarily on word count rather than character count.Would it be possible to add a word count indicator for overset text in a future update?Thank you for your time and consideration.Best regards,SIDDALINGAYYA B. InDesign is doing this semi freeze thing when I place or replace images. Random images and random formats. The background task hoop turns on and I can do somethings sometimes but not always. If I close everything then close the program there is a message but it's up for a half a second, disappears and then a new start window opens then refuses to do anything else. I have to "End Task" to get it to close. I've deleted tempfiles, uninstalled and reinstalled, turned off GPU, and did that Ctrl + Alt + Shift thing.

Is there a workaround for editable Japanese text (vertical) in the English version of InDesign?I came across an article from 2017 mentioning that I'd need to install the Japanese version of InDesign to work with vertical text. Apparently, there's also a nine-step hack involving installing and uninstalling different language versions to enable vertical text in the English version of InDesign.Is this still the case? It seems a bit odd, especially since vertical text is readily available in Adobe Illustrator.I've tried creating the Japanese portions of my layouts in Illustrator and copying and pasting them into InDesign, but the vertical text reverts to horizontal. If I copy the text along with an additional object, the vertical orientation is preserved, but InDesign treats it as a graphic, making the text non-editable.Is there a non-destructive way to preserve both the vertical orientation and text editability when pasting from Illustrator? Hi all,Im still trying to get ropes with InDesign.Ive created and added the light green > teal gradient  into the swatches panel and applied it to both the page border and quote box.Question – I understand the quote box is smaller compared to the page border and therefore it has squashed it within a smaller space.However, i want this quote box gradient to match the exact gradient location to the page frame. Ive placed a vertical white line just for information purposes. (Screenshot attached)Ive tried playing around with the gradient slider, but this is very time consuming. Surely there must be an easier way? Thank you.

I am having a lot of problems with the new editions of indesign and now have a file I created in pre release version 22 that  I can no longer open or convert.  I run a mac mini 2024 and use Adobe Creative Cloud as a professional typesetter. Somehow I ended up with both 21.6 and 22 pre release on my desktop. The 21.6 prerelease is really buggy and I cannot uninstall it, it automatically relaunches whenever I quit and now I cannot seem to reinstall 22 to get my document open (An entire book) so I can save an idml. I wanted to go back as the generative ai stuff is terrifying when typesetting long book documents... no I do not want my book rewriting thank you. How can I get my version 22 book open or re install version 22 which I am told it now can't be installed because it's clashing with 21.6 which won't quit? Help, I actually now can’t find version 22??

Est-il possible, avec InDesign, de créer une table des illustrations (photos, schémas et autres images) qui ne sont pas forcément légendées ? L’objectif est de créer un index en fin d’ouvrage des éléments représentés sur ces images avec les numéros de page associés + une table “crédits photos” avec, là aussi, les numéros de page. Sachant que chaque image est nommée de la façon suivante : “sujet de l’image_nom de l’auteur”. À part d’attribuer une légende avec un style de caractère transparent à chaque image et faire ensuite une table des matière ciblée, je n’ai pas trouvé de truc pour ça. Or, pour un livre de 250 pages, c’est long et fastidieux de créer toutes ces étapes intermédiaires pour une action qui pourrait être facilement automatisée, voire mise à jour si le nombre de page évolue ou si des images sont déplacées ou renommées. Adobe InDesign crashes when trying to create new document.InDesign 2024, v 19.3, Mac OS Monterey, OS 12.7.6, on Mac Pro (late 2013)Have started Mac in safe mode, then re-booted normal. Launched InDesign, opens exisitng file ok, but when trying to create new document it crashes. Hey everyone, my command+Z shortcut for »Undo« doesn't work in Indesign, and I can't find the source of error. The problem is Indesign-specific, because the rest of the Adobe programs work with command+Z, as do all other programs on my laptop. I already re-downloaded Indesign, set it up again, checked for missing links and am now at the end of my wits. Can somebody help me? :=) xx, clara

After updating to Indesign 21.6 the ‘go to next page’ and ‘go to previous page’ buttons stopped working when I export my file to an interactive pdf. I have tried everything, even saving my file to .idml.It has always worked fine and I have used it for years, but suddenly it doesn’t function anymore. Which really dissappointed one of my biggest clients.I assume it is a bug, can you please fix this?Mirjam

InDesign update 21.5.1 for MAC will now not let me save or save as, new or existing documents to my network to any folder on my drive. I have done EVERYTHING suggested. Uninstall old, reinstall version just b4 the update, delete preferences, use Adobe Creative Cloud cleaner then clean install. All permissions are given to InDesign so it is not a security issue. I can save an IDML file to the network then I quit, reopen and open that IDML file and it will not let me save it. It is impossible to work efficiently at my job if I have to open, save to desktop, close, drag new ones to the network so the current version is there, only to open that new version and be unable to save it for something stupid like when exporting a PDF. Adobe Photoshop & Illustrator files still can be saved to the network after update without issue. There have been zero changes to my network since the update. I came to work, it was working fine, I had time so updated it, restarted, opened it to continue working

Olá! Criei um link de Compartilhar para revisão no InDesign e recebi comentários de outras pessoas. Depois, criei uma revisão em uma cópia do documento e excluí o segundo link. Desde então, o link original apresenta “Ocorreu um erro” ou “Erro ao carregar”. E também não consigo acessar ao painel de “Compartilhar revisão” no meu arquivo original pois aparece “Erro ao convidar pessoas” carrega infinitamente e não consigo acessá-lo.O link original não aparece mais na lista de Links de revisão da Creative Cloud e não abre para nenhum dos revisores. Outros links de revisão funcionam normalmente. Já saí e entrei novamente na Creative Cloud e testei o link em uma janela anônima.Existe alguma forma de verificar se a revisão original e seus comentários ainda estão armazenados no serviço e recuperar o acesso? E como posso resolver o meu painel de compartilhar revisão neste arquivo original? Meu InDesign está atualizado.Desde já, Obrigada!

Constrain proportions for width and height in InDesign 2025 (20.0) is broken. In previous versions of InDesign the constrain-status would stay the way you selected always, now you have to link it every time you scale something, it's quite annoying and adds an extra step to workflow.   <Title renamed by MOD>  

According to the documentation, it seems my need must resort to scripting.Here’s the case: I have an InDesign 2019 document with plenty of images in .psd format, all with the exact same layer structure. From InDesign I want to switch on and off, one layer that’s off in the imported .psd files. The name is exactly the same in all images.I spotted this post on the forum but can’t make the script work on my side. Either the very brief version or the longer one yield no result.I’ve also given another script a try, unfortunately it works with instances of the same placed file.Any help welcome, thank you in advance.

It's my first time using Share for Review and the one problem I'm having is that if the reviewer uses the strikethrough text option, I don't see this in my indesign doc. I can see the strikethrough text on the browser version, but not in the native doc. The review comment is in both places, just not what it's referencing.

I have had this issue for a while now, and have been working around, but it’s just getting annoying.  When I start to type the name of the font I want into the drop down box, it won’t find the font I want. In this example I was typing in Poppins, but it gets as far as Po, then won’t go any further than this font. I have to go into the drop down list and scroll until I find the font.The troubleshooting I have done: checked for font filtering. There is no filter applied. Have changed “number of recent fonts to display” to 0. read over the type preferences over and over looking for a setting that will fix thisPlease help. I’ve worked around this for too long!Thank you
