Basically I need to increase every digit in bold underline(bold underline for emphasis, not in original document) in the text below (just an example of much larger document) by 1 and I'm hoping there's some GREP or plug-in way to do it. If anyone has any ideas outside of indesign, I'm open to them too (word or excel etc!). Thanks in advance! <navMap> <navPoint id="d3-d333afd81907b-d1e86" playOrder="1"> <navLabel> <text>Title Page</text> </navLabel> <content src="OEBPS/9780008216528_epub_tp.xhtml"/> </navPoint> <navPoint id="d3-d333afd81907b-d1e107" playOrder="2"> <navLabel> <text>Copyright</text> </navLabel> <content src="OEBPS/9780008216528_epub_cop.xhtml"/> </navPoi
Hi,I'm not a programmer and I have a basic question about two options, which is the best option?:- Doing a task in every pagefor (loop pages) { doTask (); } function doTask () { //do something }- Or, in every page doing the taskdoTask(); function doTask () { for (loop pages) { //do something } } there is no difference, it depends the task... Thanks P.D.:It's a hugh ammount of pages, the task... add two text frames
InDesign no longer opens any pdf file. I tried plenty of times with various different files (even those that worked just fine a week ago) and nothing. It looks like some update completely messed up this function. I tried changing Acrobat's Enhanced Security and save file again I tried to re-export pdf again - nothing works. Other Adobe programms works just fine, it's just InDesign that suddenly lost its ability to open pdf
I'm trying to find periods with zero or more whitespace characters after them. Everything I can find says this should work, but it doesn't work for strings that have no whitespace (looking for a capital letter followed by a period): var capitalExpression = "^[A-Z]\\.\\s*"; This findsA. Start the engine. but notA.Start the engine.
I just spent hours on this and haven't saved it til now (I know, my fault), but when I clicked save as, this modal popped up and I can't exit out of it or do anything in InDesign now. HELP!! I don't want to lose all this work.
Hi Guys, I'm a Designer in a company and I'm trying to set up a InDesign/InCopy-Workflow with one of our editors. My version is German, so I hope my translations are kind of correct.I designed a layout in InDesign and exported it for InCopy via "Edit -> InCopy -> All Texts". All files are saved in a folder in the Creative Cloud and I shared this folder with my colleague. So, unfortunatley when she is opening the file in InCopy on her Mac, there is an error message saying "Unable to lock following files ... " an then one of .icml-Files is named. So she is not able to check in or out and can't edit the text. You can see parts of the screenshot below. When I'm opening it on my system, everthing works fine. Anyone had this message before or got the solution for this?Thank you very much,Konstantin
I've encountered kind of a weird glitch with the new "hidden pages" feature. So here's what happened: InDesign crashed, taking edits on 3 or 4 documents with it. Ok, whatever, I've been riding the InDesign dragon for well over a decade at this point. I'll restart InDesign and recover what I can and re-do what I have to. Except I get an error that says "All pages can't be hidden." Weird--I didn't hide any pages. I don't even use that feature! But fine, I'll click "Unhide pages." InDesign crashes. No amount of restarting or cache clearing fixes this, and I must abandon any hope of recovering my documents. Has anyone else encountered this?
Hi all,Need help in creating a floor plan via a hand drawn PDF.There is a background that the floor plan will go on.What do I do first? Open the background, import the PDF, draw the lines, etc?Any help is greatly appreciated. I gather I do this with layers, but can't find any real help via tutorials on same. Many thanks 🙂
Ia m working on a book, which requests a proper names index. I have done it before, it works perfectly in older version of InDesign (5.0).Now I am using a new version of InDesign and the command simply does not work (shift+ctrl+alt+]).How can it be fixed?Yours, Janja
Is there any way to export all the text content of an ID file to a series of text files?I searched for a script, just in case, but didn't hear anything. Thanks!
I accidentally hit command W, then in my haste to CANCEL the pop up dialog, I accidntally hit DON'T SAVE. How screwed am I? Obviously InDesign makes temporary versions, in the event of crashes. How do I find these? Can I get an old one? Or am I going to lose days of work? Could they be saved in my creative cloud somewhere? My google drive? helllllp.
I created a brochure for a client. It was supposed to be a print booklet, but now it's digital only and they liked the spread view, so it's 17"x11". It's 23 MB when I save as an interractive PDF. I'd like to make it smaller for emailing and save out as 8.5"x5.5". I tried the adjust layout function, but the type is slightly off then. It's an interractive PDF, so saving and linking jpgs won't work. I tried to save it and resize in Acrobat, but I get error messages. Help!
Not a professional inDesign gal here, just learning as I go. I'm working on a multipage booklet in the size "letter- half page." I've been making them monthly for the last 3 months or so, and they're usually between 32-44 pages each. I have them set up as facing pages. My issue comes when I export and attempt to print as a booklet in Adobe Reader. Something gets lost in the translation, as it were. The pages go from looking perfectly centered on my screen in both InDesign and Adobe Reader to printing with big (approx 0.75-1 inch) margins around 3 of the 4 edges. The only way I've been able to fix it is to manually move the contents either left or right on the page, which makes it print alrought, but then the digital design is hideous. Any ideas how I can get the pages to print centered on the half page, so that the margins are even all the way around when the paper is folded? Thanks in advance.
I’m Japanese.I’m currently designing an English layout in InDesign, but when I export the file as a PDF and copy text from the PDF into a Word document, some strange codes appear, like this: €sl185€slmult0 “dammy (text)” (line break) €b0€sl185€slmult0 “dammy (text)” €b0 When I paste the same PDF text into another text tool (e.g., Mac Notes), it displays normally. The English font I’m using is “Helvetica Neue.”The PDF export preset is “High Quality Print.”Possible causes:Metadata remaining from the original translation process.Design or formatting data being displayed as code when copied.Font “subset embedding” during PDF export. (I set the subset value to 0%, but the issue remains unresolved.)If anyone knows the cause or a solution, I’d greatly appreciate your advice.___ (和訳)日本人です。
Posting to the correct forum this time after going down a road searching for this in others... I'm seeing I'll need to build or hunt for files with Table Styles to be imported - are there no prebuilt table styles to start with that can be modified? Thus far the free template table styles seem to be built for much more 'minimist flash' than a more basic setup. Am I thinking it may be easier to do a high res, blown up screenshot from MS Word instead of trying to fuss with getting a table to be somewhat similar?
I have read all replies on this topic but one matter stays unaddressed. I have a massive archive of books of about 30 years. What will happen to text if type 1 fonts are replaced by openfonts. Will text reflow? Because it ill be a massive pain to check thousands of pages to see if text has reflown. I can imagine it will reflow because of added glyphs, changed kerning etc. Anyone any idea? Thanks in advance!
Hi everyone,I’m having a strange issue in my document. There’s a weird underline (on the 2nd line) and a strikethrough (on the 10th line) that I can’t get rid of (you can see below).I don’t think they’re part of the text or any character style, because:When I type new letters, the text flows normally, but the lines stay fixed in place. When I copy and paste the text into another text box, the lines disappear in the new one. When I change the color of the text, the lines remain gray. However:When I delete the text box and reflow the text into a new one, the lines appear again. So it doesn’t seem to be part of the text box either.I’m completely confused — does anyone have any idea what could be causing this? Thanks in advance!
Hi,I'm relatively new here. I've been searching the discussions-section, but I can't seem to find if someone allready asked this question. For a client of mine I'm advising them on how to make an accessible pdf from InDesign. Most things seem to work out just fine, but I've got a rather strange thing happening in the paragraph styles. As you can see in the screen capture, they have made a paragraph style which has line under the paragraph, translation from Dutch screen capture to English: " + kleur lijn onder: Everyday Green + regel onder dikte: 0,25pt + verschuiving lijn onder: 9 px + lijn onder ingesprongen: 18 px + lijn onder rechts ingesprongen: -5 px" translates to: "+ color line below: Everyday Green + line below thickness: 0,25pt + line below offset: 9 px + line below indent: 18 px + line below right indent: -5 px". Normally these lines in a paragraph style wil automatically become Artefact and the text will be <P>, (because the export label for this paragraph style is
Danke!
Hi everyone,I'm running into a frustrating issue when trying to print directly from Adobe InDesign (v. 16.0-20.3) to our offset press via Presstek RIP. Every time I send a job to the press, the InDesign print dialog initiates the job, but then fails with a "Print Engine Error" message. Here’s a breakdown of the setup and what I’ve tried so far:Software: Adobe InDesign 16.0 (this has traditionally worked - anything newer gets the error every time)RIP software: Presstek RIPPress: Presstek DI pressConnection type: NetworkWhat I’ve tried:Restarted InDesign and the RIP softwareVerified printer presets and PPDs Has anyone experienced something similar—especially the Print Engine Error when going directly from InDesign to RIP for offset printing? I’m wondering if this is a compatibility issue, a bad PPD, or something deeper with how the RIP interprets InDesign’s print job.Any suggestions, troubleshooting tips, or shared experiences would be greatly appreciated!
I am working on a macbook air with OS15.6, and Adobe InDesign 20.5 creative cloud. I made a book in ID a few years ago which has hundreds of photos. The files (ID and photos) were on a backup disk but I have since transferred all those to a new disk with a new name. Because of the new disk name, when I open the ID file, it doesn't find any of the photos and they all need to be relinked. The photos are all in the same folder structure as before. The only thing that has changed is the name of the harddrive disk they are held on. Is there a way to do a bulk relink of all these photos so I don't need to go one by one for hundreds of images?
Hi all! I create reports where I pick up comments/text from an Excel sheet and literally copy and paste it into my InDesign report. Normally there aren't that many, so my issue isn't an issue. But once in awhile, I get a long spreadsheet... so the table goes on for several pages. I've always create it in a clunky way... I have a template table that fills the page. I copy and paste into it. If it is too long for one page, I copy the table, paste it on to the next page... delete the rows I had on the previous page... and on and on. I've finally decided I need to figure out how to do this in a better way. IS there a way to have a table continue from one page to the next? And if so, how do I make that happen? Thanks so much.
Been using InDesign for years and the image scaling feature is something I rely on heavily, either choosing a percentage, or simply using the down arrow until the image fits where I need it to. Recently this has stopped functioning either correctly or at all, in several ways:(1) If I choose a percentage, eg 25% I get this message: "This value would cause one or more objects the leave the pasteboard." And nothing happens even if I try to proceed. Never had this happen before and I almost always use the small scale.(2) Since Plan A didnt work, the next step is to use the down arrow to scale it. But that doesn't work either, nothing happens. Nada. (3) Then if by some random chance the scaling option does work using the down arrow, the image scales down but disappears down the page as it does so. In the past the top left corner has always stayed "pinned" in position while the image is scaling down until I get the width needed. But now the image moves down or even off the page as it sc
