Questions

My question pertains to the area of responsibility as a designer versus that of the offset printer's. I have a Taschen derrived design with somewhat narrow inner margins (1.2 cm inner, on a 21 x 26 book, with 1.1 outer and 1.5 bottom). Do I/must I be the one who is reponsible for ensuring the book block and all its finer adjustments allow those inner margins to effectively work and not see text/pages creep into the center crease, presumably by adjusting and tweaking those margins and in effect, the book's design (though, granted, I am definitely the one who defines it is 400 pages, hardback, rounded spine, and with hollow back to help it lay flat), OR is it more so the printer's technicians who take my design and make subtle and complex calculations and adjustments to ensure that the inner margins are given enough additional excess paper to bind and pages open properly, without excess arch or bunching, and effectively see my design work optimally and as intended? Hi, I haven't used InDesign in a few years. I learned it for a specific project (a full magazine layout) and - with the help of this community - the end result looked the same despite dropping from 500Mb to 1Mb. It was someone here that turned me on to ClearImageLinkMetadata to reduce those file sizes (apologies for not remembering who, because the difference was considerable enough for me to make a mental note to always do this if I have to use InDesign again). But this was a long time ago, and I have been tasked to edit a couple of pages from the old mag project and re-export a new updated version of it. So of course, my first thought was "Do I still need to run that 3rd party ClearImageLinkMetadata tool before the final export to filter out hundreds of Mb worth of bloat?" Or does InDesign finally offer the option to filter image metadata out during export (like it does with PSD layers that aren't turned on)? Thanks!

I used to have adobe indesign but it stopped working right so I uninstalled it but when I tried to reinstalled it it said incompatible

Hello. I have been trying to implement the preview checkbox for quite some time (when it is active, it should show the result that will be displayed). Is it possible to implement this at all? I am trying to write a script that coping the current page as an image to the clipboard.My approach is to export the current page as a PNG image, and copy it with `nircmd clipboard copyimage` shell command.I tried using `app.doScript` to run `nircmd`, but without success. Note: Although I succeeded to do it with a bridge to photoshop:var bt = new BridgeTalk(); bt.target = "photoshop"; bt.body = "var f = File('" + tempFile.fsName + "');" + "app.open(f);" + "app.activeDocument.selection.selectAll();" + "app.activeDocument.selection.copy();" + "app.activeDocument.close(SaveOptions.DONOTSAVECHANGES);" + "app.close(f);" + "f.remove();"; bt.send();but it opens the photoshop program, and it's annoying.

Hyperlinks that are visible within the doc: text > Hyperlinks > edit hyperlinks pane  are not showing up in the Window > Interactive > Hyperlinks pane. (see screen shot). 2 links are listed in the Hyperlinks pane and they work.The rest of the hyperlinks can go to the destination within and to other InD docs. But when compiling all the 20+ docs into a book, those links don't work. They default to the 1st page of the book. Tech specs: Mac OS  Sequoia 15.1.1InDesign v20.0.1 So how can the links be restored to appear in the Window>Hyperlinks Pane? And then made to work in the Book PDF? Urgent help needed, please!  I have already:• re-saved as idml & updated the doc.• deleted cache & preferences a few times. • tried to re-create a few links, but they still don't appear in the hyperlinks pane Some background: this InD Book has been in use for years and regularly updated and has functioned as expected in the past. Hi I can't upload any files to InDesign. Adobe instructions say go to File > Place but Place is greyed out when I select File. So when I click on Place, nothing happens. Also Ctrl + D does not work. I hope you can help! 

While working on merging some pages from one file into another, I've encountered a possible font loading error in InDesign 2025 In InDesgin 2025 if I copy some text from a packaged file into another or new file, the font used will look like it is loaded (even if the font is not loaded on my system). The font's path will list the packaged font as the location.   If i save and then export the file with the pasted text, the PDF will have repalced the font with the default font. If I quit InDesign and reopen the file with the pasted text, the font will not load and the standard font warning will appear.  This does not occur in InDesign 2024, the font warning will appear for the pasted text.  I've repeated the issue on two diferent copumters as well as having a colleague enounter the issue. 

macOS 15.2, InDesign 20.0.1   Problem: Metadata inside an image not being recognized by InDesign 2025.   Details: Multiple images from different sources containing metadata that InDesign doesn't recognize Presence of metadata in XMP Description field verified in Bridge and via InDesign's Links panel XMP File Info command. Generating a Live Caption or Static Caption when using the Description field returns "<No data from link>". Setting Object Export Options > Alt Text Source to From XMP: Description results in "metadata property is not present on some selected content". When a PDF is generated using the images in question, the metadata is not passed through to the PDF, resulting in missing alt text accessibility errors. Manually writing (or copying and pasting) the metadata to the Alt Text Source as Custom works, but as does manually creating a caption, but automation is the point.  

Hello community,I'm a relatively new user. I'm formatting a novel. InD is doing something I don't like and I haven't been able to fix it yet. I have looked at all available settings and I feel it is one of those things that isn't a setting. I have "placed" the text from a MS Word file. I have cleaned up the word file. I have so far as to clear all formatting in the Word file. I am quite frustrated as I could never in a million years release a book that had this error in it. Please help me. I am lost.

Hello. I was running the most up-to-date version of InDesign on my Mac (using MacOS Sequoia 15.2—the latest) when I suddenly was not able to highlight any text. I also couldn't even make a new text box. Is anyone else having this issue? I did call support who guided me through trashing my system preferences for InDesign and then had me install an earlier version, but that also didn't work. Thanks in advance.

Hello, I need assistance : I created a qr code that lead to the website for my wedding (host on portfolio)  in august but the qr code doesn't work anymore and it's very problematic because it is on my "wedding invitation" that are printed et already sent... is there a way to reactivate the qr code ? What can i do to fix the problem ? Thanks you for your answers !

I know a lot of other people are experiencing the same problem but I'm hoping if there are enough comments about it, Adobe might consider addressing the issue. Indesign 2025 is so slow it is unusable. I tried a number of the workarounds that I've seen online and none of them are working. I tried going back to 2024 and the projects that I started in 2025 are apparently not compatible with 2024 and the 2024 version is now just as slow, if not slower and it crashes constantly. I'm working with Indesign version 20.0.1 and macOS Sequoia 15.2. Please advise a workaround other than going back to 2024, removing the document fonts folder, disabling the contextual task bar, closing the magnet application, and uninstalling and reinstalling the application as none of these have worked for me.

Hi all,I have a problem that's been driving me crazy for years and just hit again today. My InDesign publication contains hundreds of Illustrator-generated PDF images that are resized as needed in InDesign and then descriptive text added on top. Day to day it's a good solution, but occasionally I'll find that I might need to do something to the Illustrator-generated PDF graphic. It might be as simple as adding a thicker stroke or moving a couple of handles to improve the look of a curve, etc. All very, very minor tweaks at this poing. The problem occurs when I update the image within InDesign. If I change something in the middle of a drawing it's usually not a problem, but if I tweak a line or add a stroke (or remove a stroke) at the perhiphery of the drawing then when I update in InDesign the drawing will move, or worse, the scale will change ever-so-slightly. I'm using the latest version of InDesign 2025 (20.0.1 x64) For the second time this week, on two different files, I've had my CMYK profiles disappear. I'll go to export my project as a PDF, and get a warning saying:"The present specifies a profile that is not available."Looking at the Output>Destination dropdown, there is only the CMYK Working profile. All of my CMYK profiles are gone. The profiles are gone globally, so if I open another project, they are also missing. The only way I've found to bring the profiles back is to open Illustrator and try Saving As a PDF (using any Illustrator project). That seems to bring back to the profiles. Then I can reopen InDesign and export as normal.Anyone else seeing this issue?

Buen día, tengo un problema al pasar un documento de Word que contiene formulas elaboradas con la aplicación de word, (las formulas no fueron elaboradas con Mathtyp) al pasar a indesing pasa en blanco el espacio donde va la fórmula, cuando están hechas en Mathtyp pasan bien pero las que se hacen en directo de Word no, hay alguna forma de pasarlas sin que se pierdan? Hello. I have a problem with InDesign. By importing a Word text (docx) and then applying a style, some problems arise: part of the text does not acquire the right font and the text is not adequately formatted (for example, the hyphenation indications are not applied). How is this possible? What should I do? Thank you!

Guten Tag und Happy 2025Ich habe einen Fotoatlas mit InDesing erstellt. Dieser wurde dann als PDF exportiert und durch andere als bearbeitet (Änderung Layout, Ergänzungen). Das nun bereitgestellte PDF wollte ich als Vorlage für einen zweiten Fotoatlas verwenden. Leider kann ich dieses PDF jedoch nicht mehr in InDesign öffnen. Es bräuchte da ein zusätzliche Modul. Ich finde jedoch kein solches Modul. Gibt es eine Möglichkeit, dass ich dieses PDF als Vorlage wieder mit InDesign nutzen kann? Besten Dank im Voraus!
