Hello all,I'm trying to add the Bible Reference to auto-update in my page header. I understand that <Chapter Number> works for books, but that's not a good option for me.I have things working except for one problem: The Chapter Number options are <first occurrence> or <last occurrence>. The problem is when the first occurance is in the midle of the page, but I need the previous number. See attached:  You'll see "Rom 5:20" in the top, but it should be "Rom 4:20". For now I have to manually go back and fix these pages but would be nice to figure this out.I get my <Chapter Number> from using Text Variables, and the same for <Verse Number>.  For this to work I applied a character style to the chapter numbers manually (applying through GREP wasn't recognized by Text Variables), but the verse numbers the character style was applied upon RTF import.  One problem may be where the chapter _starts_ on the top of the page.This is not holding

Anyone else having printing issues with Sequoia?  I  am printing to a Xerox Phaser 7800 with multiple trays.  I cannot spec my specific printer in the page setup - it only shows "any printer". I can spec the printer in the main InDesign print dialog, but if I select the "printer" button at the bottom of the dialog in order to spec tray, paper weight, duplexing etc. InDesign immediately crashes. I was having the same issue with Illustrator and Acrobat, but the latest Adobe updates *seem* to have solved it there. InDesign is where the printer specification is most critical in order to correctly print booklets, trifold brochures etc. I have sent reports to both Adobe and Apple but have seen no solutions to date.   <Title renamed by MOD>

Hello, A few weeks ago I needed to make some Arabic documents. I reinstalled my Indesign to Arabic (not the language). Now I need t o work on Roman, left to right lay-outs again. How do I switch back to Roman, without reinstalling the whole thng again? Thank you

I have a list of over 2000 names with phone number, specialty and other info that I transfered from a Numbers document to InDesign. I want to go through and bold just the line with the Name. The nesting of a character style won't work because that only works in a paragraph. Is there another way to get that one line bold? Obvioulsy without going through each and every name over 2000 times.

Hey, So I am trying to seprate code for readablity. I have two files so far. I am trying to import the file into the main file. I tried using #include but i got an error saying I could not use it outside a class. I saw online another example //@include but that does not work. It just comments out the import. What is the proper way of importing a file ?

I'm a typesetter at an academic publisher—so I work with a lot of long documents with many footnotes.   Recently, we're encountering a strange error when using one of our frequently-used body typefaces, Ten Oldstyle: when we reach 3-numeral, superscripted footnote numbers, the third numeral is often larger than the first two numerals. But not always (see screenshots).   We've tried changing the numeral style from oldstyle to normal and back, and manually applying the superscript vs. using a character style, but nothing seems to help. I experimented with other typefaces, and others (e.g., Garamond Premier Pro, Baskerville) also have the same problem, but not all others have issues (random sample—Freight Display and Times were fine).   Appreciate any help that the community or Adobe can offer!     <Title renamed by MOD>

Hi all, I'm trying to learn InDesign JavaScripting and I want to run a script in each active document to add two new layers to the bottom of the document. I've surfed the internet but I can't find anything that makes sense to me, any help would be much appreciated. This is what I have so far, this is saved as a .js file in my scripts folder; var myDoc = app.activeDocument.Layer.add({name:"EPub"});app.activeDocument.Layer.add({name:"TOC"}); It runs and the following error appears, what am I doing wrong?  

Hi everyone, I have an issue with InDesign recently, when I export a document and check it with the preflight of Acrobat, most of the time I have a 0,001 mm error with the size or/and with the bleed.  I'm know i'm not the only one. Where I work, many people have this annoying problem.Any ideas where this come from ?Thanks.    

When I receive files from a specific co-worker, I get a pop-up that tells me links or URLs are not accessible, but the little errors panel shows no errors and if I go into the links panel, nothing shows as missing there.   Furthermore, I am unable to export a pdf or even package the files at all. I get this message instead: We are both running the latest version of InDesign and I have tried shutting down completely and re-starting. I am able to make an idml file, but all of the links unlink if I do so (like the normal way of unlinking where it shows up in the links panel). I end up having to go through and relink each one individually which is cumbersome as these files can have 200 links.  Has anyone else encountered this issue and do you have a fix for it?

Hello I am currently having an issue with the line tool where it defaults to 0 stroke and shows up at a different place on the page than drawn.  Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

I created some artwork all within InDesign and when I export it, the output is significantly different. InDesign screenshot Acrobat screenshot This happens regardless of the export format (eg also happens in jpeg & png.) PNG What is a little intriguing, is if I change the resolution of a jpeg or png export, eg to 72ppi, then there's still an issue, but it's different: It seems like the effects are not scaling properly when exporting, among other issues. The issue also occurs if I copy the artwork out of InDesign and paste it into Illustrator. The blue curve you see most pronounced in the last screenshot, conists of a single stroke, 100pt thick. I've then applied a gradient to it, set the blend mode to Hard Light and added Basic Feather to it.

Hey folks! I'm using InDesign v2024 on a Macbook Pro. Currently, I am designing a postcard with variable data which is both content and images. I have an Excel spreadsheet sheet with all my columns and rows together and the content is working completely fine but the images is where I am having issues. Column header is '@images to avoid Excel thinking I want to use a formula. The rows have the paths which I have tried every which way from Sunday to make work but continue to get the same error (missing image files). Please note that I am saving this spreadsheet as a CSV file format and everything is currently on my desktop (not a server). Despite reading articles and forums as well as watching many videos, nothing seems to be working. Here are my questions:Is there a specific file extension that is required?If so, what is it? Hi, I'm having a problem in InDesign CC 2022 v17.2 desktop app on Windows 10 64 bit. When I Open a New Document, InDesign freezes. I've reset the preferences and it hasn't worked. Has anyone been able to solve it without reinstalling? The problem is that there is no longer an installer for this version in Creative Cloud.

Hello! I know I may be seeking a far-reaching solution; however, at this point, I'm clueless as to what may be causing my issue. I've created a document that I need to print in its BEST resolution due to finer lines/dots, when I print it from the main tray on normal printer paper. Gorgeous. Crisp. Perfect. When I transition to using cardstock from the rear tray, It feels as if I need to get my eyes checked, just a little blurry. It's the different paper, you say!? Sadly, it's not. I've used this paper for years, as well as InDesign to print out perfectly crisp results. I then thought, maybe it needs to print in a different format for better resolution. So I exported it to a PDF and opened Adobe to print it using the setting of '600 dpi' and to print 'as an image'. I then printed it on the cardstock from the rear tray and it provides me with crisp results (although a little lighter, it's still crisp)! I've already spoken with tech support at Canon, and they didn't of

I am on latest macOS using InDesign CC 2024 and 2025. Haven't had any issues until this morning on one of my systems. (The other works as it should with same OS Sequoia 15.1.1). When I attempt to select either the in port (or out port) the loaded cursor doesn't show up any longer. I get a fast coordinates tool tip but not the loaded paragraph.After trying it about 20 times, it worked once but never again. I have restarted, shutdown/rebooted, and no difference. I didn't think there was an option to disable threading of a text frame, but this has me shocked.I'm on an M1 Studio Ultra, if that makes a difference. I have also reset, removed, or reinstalled cursor and pen tablet drivers but I don't that is it.Any ideas?

So this is a brand new MacBook Pro 15.1.1 (24B2091) with newly installed CC. I have multiple vector files placed that, upon export, come out really pixelated as if the links are missing (they're not). When I place them, this dialog box comes up as if I'm placing a pdf instead of an illustrator file. I tried resaving the vector files with "create pdf compatible file" unchecked, which had even worse results–no placed file that even displays in InDesign and just a message about how I should have saved it with the box checked. I've been using these programs a lot of years and haven't run into this before. I know the files are simple vector files and not raster, and all images are linked.

I've laid out a book in InDesign (CC v 16.4) on a Mac (Montery v 12.1). The entire book is in one document but each chapter is a separate story. When I export to reflowable ePub, I can't get the chapters to start on a new page.  They all flow from the chapter before with just the space I've assigned in the "chapter #" paragraph style I created. How do I get the chapter to start on a new page?

Hi AllI am investigating an issue with Indesign installed from creative cloud that won't open once initially closed. It is on a Mac iMac19,2 macOS version 13.2.1 6-Core Intel Core i7Adobe InDesign 2025 20.0.1.32 When ever I close the application and go to reopen it, it opens for a second then closes itself. Is there any possibility in indesign to export layers to photoshop layers?I'm using the ExportLayersToPSv6.jsx script, but it doesn't work properly.I would welcome this feature in Indesign, but so would other corporate colleagues. I am trying to make an object style that contain several text paragraps. I want it to result in the following html-code:<div class="blaRundeHjorner">  <p>some text…</p>  <p>some more text…</p></div>I made an object style, put two text paragraphs inside it and updated the Edit all export tags like this:The problem is that neither the html div tag nor its corresponding css from the object style is in the html-file in the epub. The paragrapt styles is however there. How can I get the object style as an html-tag in the epub html?
