Friend of mine just sent me a file with a strange problem.   Here is a Table - with Char & Para Styles applied to contents of the cells - text cursor is in the last cell:   Now, hitting TAB - produces this - override from nowhere:   Table Style definition:   Cell Style isn't a problem either - even when it shows override:   The culprit - when one of the CharStyles is being active/selected BEFORE hitting TAB - even when all cells in a Table have [None] CharStyle applied - DEFINITION of this active/selected CharStyle is still applied to the cells in the newly created row - like when you create a new/blank TextFrame with some styles active / preselected:   So after selecting [None] as an active CharStyle - pressing TAB in the last cell - no more overrides:     Hopefully this will save someone precious time searching for gremlins.     Unless it's an old news - then please remove this post.  

I created a way to use data merge to populate multiple numbers to automate bar charts in InDesign based on the number that was pulled in. I feel like there must be a simpler code for it but i cant figure it out. (I put the visual in for reference and colored the dashes so you can see - final product has the dashes clear. The code basically says "Look behind for # tab and assign character style to # dashes" but I have to repeat the code 100 times and specify each number. is there a way to simplify where the code is more intuitive to say "read the number and assign the character style to that many dashes?      (?<= 1\t)-{1}|(?<= 2\t)-{2}|(?<= 3\t)-{3}|(?<= 4\t)-{4}|(?<= 5\t)-{5}|(?<= 6\t)-{6}|(?<= 7\t)-{7}|(?<= 8\t)-{8}|(?<= 9\t)-{9}|(?<= 10\t)-{10}|(?<=11\t)-{11}|(?<=12\t)-{12}|(?<=13\t)-{13}|(?<=14\t)-{14}|(?<=15\t)-{15}|(?<=16\t)-{16}|(?<=17\t)-{17}|(?<=18\t)-{18}|(?<=19\t)-{19}|(?<=20\t)-{20}|(?<=21\t)-{21}

I've imported a Word doc with endnotes, which brought formatting with it (italics). Is there any way to control the Character Styles for these?   TIA   <Title renamed by moderator>

Preferences > Appearance of Black > Display and Output All Blacks Accurately, InDesign, 19.5, macOS 14.6.1, MacBook Pro M3This preference setting does not operate properly. Has anyone had this problem?

I have made a script which a user can design a range of consecutive subheaders and the script will apply the styles for all instances of subheaders  see screenshots for example  As you can see there are 4 subheaders each with text settiings and then other entries with similar subheaders - rather than having to eyedrop all of them you can run the script and all subheaders will be styles - see the second screenshot    As you can see each subhead has adopted the respective subhead. The problem I have is if each subheader has a return after it the script does not see them as consecutive. Screenshot below shows the issue The same subheads but now with returns  as you can see once the script has been run they all adopt the frust subheader Any advice on this would be most appreciated!  This should be a useful script when complete and it feels like it is the final hurdle. Many thanks  Smyth func

I'm new to UXP and the InDesign DOM and trying to write a script that will resize overset anchored Text Frames.A snippet of my code:thisTextFrame.fit(myInDesign.FitOptions.FRAME_TO_CONTENT);https://developer.adobe.com/indesign/dom/api/f/FitOptions/This successfully increases the text frame's height, but the text now overlaps the text in the Story that follows the anchored Text Frame.Is there a way of pushing the Story text down so that it follows the expanded TextFrame?If I manually drag the Text Frame in InDesign to resize it, the Story text gets pushed down. I'd like to be able to automate this with a script.Many thanks for any advice that can help me make progress.

Hello,I have reported this issue in prerelease but recieved no answer so I decided to post it here too. (I could not remember if I did or not but couldn't find that I did). It's been a longe time since I wanted to report this behavior (perhaps someone did), but for some reason I did not. I came to find this problem when I was working on a unique job but I will only describe the problematic part. I created a text frame and made it's frame into "Type on Path". I then inserted a horizontal stroke with baseline shift so It will always be on the same distance from the top when I change the text frame's height. The text frame was also defined with Text Wrap (Jump to next column). I did it because there is no way to give a stroke to one side of a text box or any other graphic object (like you can do in a table cell). The text frame was placed on a parent page, on both sides of the parent spread and was threaded (In my case from Right to Left) like this:  I then went t

hello, Ive been trying to get indesign to work on my laptop fot the past three hours. everything was fine until a couple of hours ago the app started freezing up. i am working on a small project (7 MB) and whenever I start moving objects, scrolling down or just pressing 'W' to toggle the view it freezes. there is no error message, the rest on my computer works fine. i tried deleting prefences, restarting the laptop, reinstalling the app, older versions, and even completely reinstalling adobe cloud (with the cloud cleaner tool). nothing works. it continues to crash. I made a copy of the document and it crashes as well. im working on a tight timeline for this project and really need it to work. 

I am having an issue creating QR codes from URLs in a csv file. In the original csv file, I added URL: to each URL, and the column name is #URL; but although I am getting the little QR code symbol in the data merge window, it will not generate a QR code when I run the merge. Each URL does work when I manually copy and paste each one into InDesign, so it's not the URLs themselves . . .I would appreciate any advice on trouble shooting this issue. Thanks! 

InDesign keeps updating links that are not being altered in any way. This is really a problem when I go to Edit > Undo to check a change I made and InDesign decides to update a link, then my history is cleared and I can't Redo. None of the linked files are open nor have they been edited in a long time. In the screenshot you can see my History Panel. The Update Links have happened just while I type this, except the first two after Paste.  EDIT TO ADD: The Update Link will consistently happen one time whenever I switch to another program and back to InDesign. I also tested on a new document with only one PNG linked. Perhaps this is a setting that I can't find in order to disable? I have .ai .png .eps. and .psd files linked. 13 links in all. I'm on a Mac, files are on my computer.

Hi all,   I'm having issues with numbering my pages. I need the first nine to be Roman numerals and the rest to be regular numbers, which I did through section numbering. This works fine for the first 97 pages, but then jumps randomly back to Roman numerals, and when I try to start a new section it adds a new page for some reason? I need some clarity on print novel formatting errors from KDPP. Amazon suddenly started rejecting print manuscripts due to infringement on the gutter by text. (I've never had this issue before).  I have always set all the margins and gutter to their specification, but still, the problem persists. I tweaked it enough last time to get the project through, but i have another thirty-two novels of mine that i will be updating in ID, and need to understand why this is happening and how to avoid it. Adobe support has been no help at all on this. They either address something i did not ask, or they condescend by explaining to me what a gutter is.Here's the screenshot from Amazon KDPPand here are my settings.So perhaps the question is, what is the difference between margin/gutter settings AND the text frame that might be on the page? I'm looking for a better, smarter way to insert placeholder text into my indesign documents than the tired and true methods of copy/paste from an external source or utilizing my own placeholder.txt doc.I'd like to be able to simply insert my cursor anywhere in my text box/frame (which may already have text in it) and be able 'insert placeholder text' and specify character, word or paragraph count'Or possibly leverage AI integration directly in app where I can select an certain length of text and have it 'edit' to a specific word/character/paragraph count?Anyone know of any plugins that would allow this?Seems like this feature has sat idle for many years and could benefit from being a little more capable and intelligent inside the application.TIA

Hello all, I am using a custom placeholder text file which I want to use instead of Lorem Ipsum. I have couple of paragraphs on it and I have pasted the file in the following folder:C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe InDesign 2023 The file is in plain text format and I have tried all the possible options of UTF-8, UTF-16 LE, UTF-16 BE and other options available in Notepad for saving it. For some reason only few lines are appearing from the file and that same line is getting repeated. I have attached a screenshot and also the placeholder text file. Any suggestion would be very helpful.Thanks

This is constantly happening to me! The top edge of my Links panel is all the way at the top of my monitor, but the bottom edge is off the screen & too far down to grab. Closing & re-opening the panel does not help.

Hi, im having an issue where my swatches panel is blank. There is nothing there at all.I've reset my preference and also uninstalled and reinstalled inDesigns to no avail.Can anyone help?
