In the last two updates to InDesign CC, I've had the issue of the text cursor not landing where I click to select text. In other words, I click to the right of a letter to select the letter to the left of the cursor, but the cursor actually "lands" to the left of the letter that I clicked to the right of. For example, if I click to the right of the letter K below and try to select it, the cursor actually lands between the S and K, and I of course end up selecting the S instead of the K:ASKThis ONLY happens in InDesign, and I KNOW this is a bug because I've seen a ton of forum topics around the creative blogosphere talking about it. I'm just wondering if anyone here has figured out the problem, and a solution.
Is it possible to export a QR code alone from Indesign? It's not available in the Links folder when I package my file, so I was wondering if this is possible.
Is it possible in InDesign to stop the activation of fonts in the background? Even if I close the document, that asks for the missing fonts, InDesign still tries to activate them. As a result I have a hot laptop and in no time I run out of battery power. Any suggestions?
Hello, just wondering if anyone has manange to use MathType with Indesign in MacOS, and if so could you let me know how? Many thanks
I am trying to determine if text frames or cells in a table have overset text using .overflows. I was under the impression that a table overflow could be determined using table.overflow, but it seems to give me unexpected results. Is it possible that this property is no longer reliable, or perhaps it is not capable of checking overflow in the celluar level? I am using UXP with the InDesign DOM.
In the Find and Replace menu in InDesign, I can only select five fonts in the Basic Character Format option to replace one font with another. The other fonts are not showing up. This issue appeared suddenly. Can you help me?
Hi all.I have a bilingual text with footnotes. Each language has its own color. How can I assign different colors to the footnotes of each text?
I am aware that InDesign animations on buttons only work when the file in EPUB/Publish online. However, i want to create a hover animation on the button that goes to a page where you can fill in a text form. A text form is possible within an interactive PDF ofcourse, but then my animation is not available. Is there a way to keep my hover animation on my buttons that go to a page where a text form could be filled in? File does not matter, pdf, epub, etc.
How do I align text so that each sentence finishes at the blue line and doesn't appear ragged?
I was trying to batch place images yesterday in InDesign 2020 with the "ImageCatalog" script. I was able to double click the script, it popped up a window to select the folder of images (that I had on my desktop in a folder named "images") and then nothing. No other window came up for me to specify what I wanted to happen. I restarted my computer, checked for updates (there were none) and tried again. Same thing happened, let me select the folder of images and then nothing happened at all after that. Is this a bug?
I installed the new inDesign 2024 late yesterday and specifically selected "retain preferences" but when I first lauched the app this morning it said "preferences were created with a previous version and will be deleted". There was no option for me to say no, it just did it. I'm missing my colors, stylesheets, EVERYTHING IS GONE. I've been unable to work all morning and desprately need to restore the previous version (inDesign 2023). I've been able to restore the app using Time Machine backups but when launched it says the app is damaged. I'm sure there must be library files I also need to restore. I'm hoping someone can point me to a list of items needed to get this up and running, I'm under extreme deadline pressure. PLEASE HELP.
Is there a shortcut for Horizontal Scale or is it possible to create one? I use horizontal scale extensively and find it quite labourious to have to go up to the panel each time.
I can't find this script anywhere. I have followed all the links (Indesign Secrets/ Adobe Community/Google etc) to download this to add to indesign so I can read different layers in pdf. Anyone have any ideas?[Moved out of the Experience Cloud forum and into a Creative Cloud forum for InDesign. - Moderator]
Hello,I am creating a file in InDesign and always create a folder for the linked images and graphics. At some point after an update I suspect, I can no longer access some images. It then notifies me, saying that I do not have the necessary access rights. I work from a server and I suspect it has something to do that Adobe doesn't work well with our servers. Although probable most Firms work with servers... So I think this is an important problem to fix. Now I even have an issue with exporting. Some pages of my file remain completely blank when exported to JPG. No text, no images. Nothing.I have reinstalled InDesign. No success. I downloader 19.3 (I had 19.4), I extracted the file onto a single page in a new document. Nothing. And yet, some time ago, these files were exported without any problems. If I put all the links on my destop I can refresh the link it works, but that only complicates things unneccesary. I cannot pull the pictures onto the side board, but ref
I had a document that I ran spell check on and it worked as expected. When I went through and proofread the document however, spell check didn't flag the word "harwood" which was supposed to be "hardwood" in my doc. Is there a way that I can get InDesign to flag "harwood" as a misspelled word?
The Text Frame Option doesn't work on picture boxes. It works on text boxes but not on picture boxes. It worked up until a week ago but the option is now greyed out.
At some stage, InDesign changed the way you could manage paragraph and character styles on import so that you got the option to ascribe, for example, anything called "Heading 1" in Word with "Title" in InDesign and absolutely everything else (I think it was termed '[Any]') as '[No Paragraph Style]', 'Body Text' or whatever you wanted. Now, in the 2024 update, we seem to have gone back to the old method of having to assign every single imported text style with a paragraph or character style of your own, or - and here is the real headache - specifying [No paragraph style] or character style [None] to each and every style inherited from the usually very messy Word file. I have just done this to a file compiled by multiple users with approx. 100 different styles. So my questions are:Why?! Surely the switch to being able to group imported styles together was easier and more efficient?andIs there any way of getting the circa 2022 version of text import back again?
I am trying to create pdf as booklet, 2 page perfect bound, 2 up on letter size paper. I have spent the entire day reading this forum and trying figure out what has changed. Using indd, file>>print booklet; the preview to print is fine, but the pdf is not. I have tried a thousand different ways. There is no way to set page size or orientation. And if I follow other suggestions and I create a regular single page pdf and then try to print that as a booklet, saving as a pdf is not supported. Really frustrating.
Please help. The question is probably related to multiple Adobe Products. I have a PDF in Landscape mode (attached below) that I need to convert to Portrait mode (it should be exactly 8.5 by 11). Is there a way to do it in InDesign or any other Adobe product where the text on PDF would be readable (not too crowded)? ChatGPT gives me instructions on how to do it in InDesign, I have downloaded a trial, but it does not work when I do it and is not very intuitive. Thank you!
USING: Win 10 and latest Adobe updates In general usage and to take a quick look at .jpgs, etc., directly from a File Explorer folder, I have for the longest time kept my .jpg and .png default file types set to open in a simple photo app. I don't always want to open Photoshop. Photoshop sucks up a lot of RAM, so I just don't really like to open it until I need it. But even with this setting in place, I've always had Photoshop as an "edit with" option when I need to edit a link from within InDesign -- a time when I DO want to open Photoshop. However, recently, the Photoshop "edit with" option is not appearing in my InDesign "edit with" choices in the Links palette. I imagine (assume, expect) that it might "come back" if I switch my default .jpg/etc. app to Photoshop. But I'd really rather not do that as I don't want to open PShop in general every time I need to get a quick look at the random .jpg. I know I can access such files via Bridge without opening
My InDesign files are printing and rendering PDF's with two sets of crop marks - never had this problem before.I have bleed set up in Document Setup - 0.125". I end up with an innner and outer set of crop marks - very strange. How did this happen and what am I overlooking? Thanks!
Hey guys,Creating a new post to see if anyone can help me to sort out an issue with a script. Just to give you all a bit of context - @m1b helped me to put together a script that reduces font size and I added in some more codes to redefine Paragraph and Character styles as well, but only if there are no manual overrides on text. So, in case of any override, none of the styles are redefined to preserve formattting. So far so good. The problem is that, in case of no overrides found in the document, the script keeps lopping and nothing happens. Could you please help me to figure out why? Any help would be greatly apreacitated! 🙂 Thanks, Rogerio.var doc = app.activeDocument; // search for overrides on paragraphs and characters // turn on Style Override Highlighter for visibility doc.textPreferences.enableStylePreviewMode = true; for (s = 0; s < doc.stories.length; s++) { var myStory = doc.stories[s]; for (p = 0; p <
I haven't seen this done but hope that it can. On the left is how InDesign handles superscript characters by default, which is clumsy because they don't share the same elevated baseline and they vary in size. On the right is how I wold like for the characters to appear, on the same elevated baseline and the same size. In both examples the "3" and hashtag don't need to be massaged because they have the correct elevated baseline and size by default. I want to change the †, ‡, and ¶ characters only. As we know, the superscript size and position are controlled by the percentages in the Preferences/Advanced Type dialogue. I've used GREP to automate a few things but this is above my skill level. Is there a way, perhaps in GREP, to target specific characters to change these default size and position percentages? Thanks in advance for your help.
Hi, I opened an INDD file. There is a dialog box. Q1.To close the dialog box, can I click Activate? Q2.Is there any way to avoid the Missing Fonts issue, while making an INDD document and selecting the font? Hosun
