File name keeps cutting off in Premiere Pro

Hi everyone,

I've been having a little annoying issue with premiere pro. Everytime on this specific computer, when I try to save a file name in premiere, I would select the deault name underlined and highlighted in blue then when the popup comes up, I'd type the name of my file, for eg. "TheKidsDocumentary_May 2024_01.23.05.mp4.' When I press ok or close the popup, the last part of the file ends up missing, it would now look like this "TheKidsDocumentary_May 2024_01.mp4". So I end up typing it back in the box with the addition of the numbers that it should have and save it. When I save it, the full name is saved. Please see the images below.

Your help would truly be appreciated. I will add screenshots and videos later.

Hello @ElitheTechGirl,

Thanks for the report. Please try removing the punctuation and retrying your file naming as you save, as @R Neil Haugen suggests.

The team will also need more info in order to. reproduce your bug. See: How do I write a bug report?

Sorry for the frustration.

Thanks!
Kevin

Notice it's cutting off where you use all those periods? The  .  characters?

Do NOT use periods in the middle of names, those are specifically meant to indicate the file type section of the name.

@R Neil Haugen @Kevin-Monahan Unfortunately, I can't do that. I work at a media company that requires me to include the time stamp in the file name. This has been done for over 7 years, before I was working there. The issue that I am experiencing happened a couple months ago. Please note that there are three machines in my office with the same version and I do not have this issue with others when saving my files. Videos and screenshots to follow soon.

@ElitheTechGirl

Are you saving the file to a volume that's formatted with a file system that supports long filenames?

"TheKidsDocumentary_May 2024_01.23.05.mp4"

"TheKidsDocumentary_May 2024x01x23x05.mp4"

I agree with Neil and Kevin, using periods in file names was never a good idea, even though at some point MS enabled it. In my own naming, I use an x between date number. I'm not a fan of spaces in file names either, but MS has allowed and encourages that, ie: "Program Files" I prefer a name like ProgramData using CamelNotation.

Hi everyone, as I mentioned before, the way I had been saving the file has been done for years, even before I started at the media company. I figured out the issue, somehow I had accidentally changed the save as file name to all files and not specifically .mp4. When I changed it, the issue was resolved. All the file name was saved. Thanks to everyone who presented their solutions!
