The Indesign PDF export functionality is rather outstanding. You can control the PDF parameters much better then using the print option. I've included only the most important for me. Bleeds, crop marks: Output control: martyl91342586 wrote The reason I want to PRINT to a PDF from Illustrator and InDesign is because I am given complete control over how the PDF will look. With "Export" you can only choose the exact page size of the document. I suppose that's what I do when I design my document. martyl91342586 wrote I can print to a smaller size, or larger size, or centered on larger page, etc. etc. Why not doing that during the final output of the document? I decide during the physical print on the paper the smaller size, the larger size, centred etc. In Indesign I use the print option only for booklet prints, because export does not give me that option. But I need to be really careful to choose the right output parameters, because the printing process is also controlled by the OS. Illustrator files are very rarely files for direct use. Most of them get imported into Indesign to be part of a greater lay-out. This said, the "Save as PDF" dialogue gives you plenty of control on your design output. If however, I want doing an imposition, without having the cool tools the professional printer has at his disposal, I prepare a PDF (X/4) output and place that one in Indesign as I wish. And I have real total control on how my data is placed on the print sheet.
