After Effects

Objects are turning black, disappearing, and flickering. I didn't make any edits or anything since I last worked on it (worked fine then) but when I opened my computer to the open file it started glitching. I exited out of the document without saving because I assumed my previous save from when it worked normally would save me. When I opened my save from before the glitch, it was still glitching, and it got even worse. My layers are mostly imported from Illustrator, but I didn't touch the file I had on there either. The layers in the project window also show up mostly all black when I look at their previews, although I am new at AE so unsure if this is common. I am working on a Mac and the program should be up to date. Any ideas on what could make individual art objects flicker or turn black?

Hi all, I am experiencing weird flickering when I apply taper to smoothed (bezier) trim paths. They seem to work fine if I keep them linear, but smoothing the curves brings out random errors in the animation. Tried smoothing the anchor points in Illustrator before bringing them to AE, but the problem still shows.Even though this example curve comes from AI, the same issue can be recreated with simple curves created on a shape layer.Tried switching GPU/CPU rendering, no luck.Currently on Win 10, AE 22.6.0, but I was able to recreate the same issue on different versions of AE 2023 on a couple of different computers.Any ideas how to fix this?Thanks!  

This error completely breaks projects. There seems to be no way to fix it whatsoever. Cannot be opened, cannot be imported into another project. Nothing.  Windows 10, AMD 5950, 4070 GPU, all AE versions 

After Effects V26 has memory leaks! I'm having to restart after 45 minutes of use. Undo is causing memory failures and crashes. I'm on an M1 Ultra Mac Studio w 128G RAM and a terabyte of dedicated scratch space.

The red CTI (Current Time Indicator) suddenly stops at unexpected moments. Additionally while playing back with a buggy red line the viewport zoom stops working, but that is just extra information. This bug doesn't affect anything except the red line and zoom. I can still see the video and hear the audio. However, it's really annoying because you notice the timeline stopping while the animation keeps playing which feels out of sync. I've read every possible forum about this bug. Many users report it happening when After Effects and Premiere Pro are open together or when using Dynamic Link. Hello,After launching After Effects 2026, pressing the Spacebar does not start preview playback.While holding down the Spacebar, the Hand Tool becomes active temporarily. When I release the Spacebar, it switches back to the Selection Tool. However, playback never starts.  What I checked Verified Keyboard Shortcuts settings Checked the Preview panel configuration Confirmed no custom key remapping Searched for similar cases online All settings appear to be configured correctly.From what I found, this issue does not seem to affect many users and may be specific to my system.I have attached a sample video demonstrating the issue.I would appreciate any guidance or a fix in an upcoming update.Thank you.

I have recently been experiencing a black screen with the AEUX plugin, which is not working. is there any way to fix it? 

When I enable Show Layer Controls, if there are shape layers with many paths the entire UI becomes unusually slow and unresponsive.

Hello everyone, Since last week Thursday I have been having issues with After effects.After using after effects for a few minutes the preview screen freezes. Once that happens if I try to continue editing after effects will freeze. When trying to close after effects it won't work. Even closing it with task manager doesn't work. It only closes if I completely restart my laptop. The past few days I did more testing. trying to edit and restart after effects everytime it wanted to freeze and crash. The more I work in the project and add more things the faster it will eventually freeze. Doing simple things like masking a picture or adding beat markers also could make this freeze happen.  These past days new versions of after effects came out. sadly when updating these versions didn't fix the problem and today with the new update 25.5 it still didn't fix.  I already tried a few things:Reseting prefrences, Starting up in safe mode (same issues occured), turning off al

Hi. I work in post. We usually import an image sequence of cr2 / raw footage into After Effects, it shows a preview on the Camera Raw window, where we leave everything as it is by default, with Adobe Color profile.The producer let us know that my renders were looking a bit more desaturated and kind of dark, while my coworker's was just as expected, bright and vivid colors.  We rendered in Quicktime, with Apple ProRes 4444, we double checked all of our settings, everything was the same. The only different thing was the AE version. He was working with 2025 (25.1) and I was working with 2026 (26.0). I downloaded a previous AE version, imported the footage and it looked just fine.Overall, this seems to be a specific 2026 version problem. Please fix this asap. Luckily, we found a way for importing all my work into a past version of AE and it was an instant fix, otherwise it would have been a problem for the person working the color after me.Thanks.

Every time I select a text layer in After Effects using the monitor, a message box pops up with the following error:After Effects error: having to focus on ourselves(76 :: 59)When I click OK, the cursor jumps back to the beginning of the text instead of staying where I clicked to edit it.It’s a small bug, but when it happens 200 times a day, it gets pretty annoying.

I used to use the puppet tool animating the pins in real time while the audio of the video was played. Since the after effects 2014 version there is a bug that no longer plays the audio of the video while animating the pins in real time, making the tool uncomfortable or impossible to use in case you are animating a character that speaks...

In After Effects 2026, content aware fill will only fill the first frame, the last frame, and then the second frame. After that it stops and doesn't do anything else. If those frames already have reference images, or otherwise don't need any fill, it does nothing. It doesn't move on to frame 3 if I try to force it. It just stops at frame 2. I can see the progress bar pop up, analyze, and start rendering, and then stop once frame 2 is done. It doesn't matter if it is set to object or edge blend or surface, it just doesn't do anything. But when I take the same shot over to AE 2025, it works just fine! In 2025 I follow the same steps and it has no problem rendering the entire shot.

Problem Description:In AE 25.5.0 both win / macOSAfter turning on 3D on layers in Advanced Renderer, if you turn them off, layers outside the comp will still have 3D wireframe displayed. Steps to Reproduce:Turn on 3D on a layerSwitch to Advanced RendererSwitch off 3D on the layer.If the layers goes outside the comp, AE will display 3D wireframe. Expected Result:  no wireframe at all.   

The last save file on after effects is not getting saved some times and also it was not saved in autosave. When I close and open its not showing it as saved.

When opening after effects, it will get to the splash screen scanning fonts and then crash. It crashes on a different font every time. I am working on a mac studio - M2 Max, 32GB.splash screen before crashingcrash notice 

Keyframe icons aren’t displaying properly in the timeline. A linear keyframe icon will randomly appear as a hold keyframe icon or an ease in keyframe icon etc. When I click on it, it reverts back to what it actually is. If I click away, it switches back to the wrong icon. AE 26.0.0. OS X Tahoe 26.2.

hallo liebes Adobe Team, ich nutze seit Jahren das kostenlose und tolle Plugin von Video Copilot namens FX Console.Ab der Version 26 und auch in der letzten Beta, lässt es sich nicht mehr richtig nutzen. In den Einstellungen funktioniert der shortcut “option+Space” nicht mehr. Was aber viel schlimmer ist: wenn ich den  Efffect “Füllen” in die Favoriten ablege, stürzt After Effects ab. Was mir auffällt, das die deutschen Sonderzeichen nicht ht erkannt werden, jedoch funktionieren die Verknüpfungen zu anderen Effekten mit Sonderzeichen.Ich hoffe das Problem wird gelöst denn es ist ein unverzichtbares Werkzeug für mich und viele Andere User geworden.In derVersion 25.64 funktioniert das selbe Plugin Fehlerlos.https://www.videocopilot.net/blog/2018/05/fx-console-updated-to-v1-0-3/ 

I see that in ‘Fixed issues in After Effects’, in the ‘Fixed issues in the November 2025 release (version 25.6)’ section, it says: User Interface > Dialogs now open at their last saved position by default, with the Preferences dialog always opening centered.I am using v25.6.4, and none of my panels remember their saved positions, ever. I move them, open them again, and they are in the center of the frame again. I restart SE, same results..I’m guessing this is not a common problem, as I see no other posts about it.Why would this be happening?Using Windows 11 64 bitThanks

Hi, since I updated this morning, I can’t do any kind of customised blurring - it just blurs the whole thing. There is no elipse, rectangle of bezier option with Gaussian blur in the effects panel any more. I've tried to attach a photo but I don’t know if it’s worked. To reproduce, drag Gaussian blur onto a clip and go to that section in the efects panel. No masking options appear there, just a box to click with ‘surprise me’ written on it. If you click that it just all gets blurrier, but you still can’t mask anything. The whole lot is blurred.  Thanks. Imogen
