Hi please can you help. I designed my Dad’s autobiography epub as per online recommendations: 11pt with 13.2 pt leading. But when downloaded to any reader including Kindle, Apple Books and Google Books, my book displays as a large amount of tightly woven text per page. No other books on Kindle that I have seen or purchased look like this. Please can you recommend the best option to fix this? It’s not about adjusting the settings on the e-readers as I don’t need to for any of the ebooks I've bought. Two screenshots below: My book on Apple Books and a Stephen Hawking book sample page on Apple Books. 1. My book STEPHEN HAWKING BOOK
I’m experiencing pretty serious bugs with InDesign v19 on macOS. I've tried to troubleshoot for several hours with no luck. I would like to install InDesign 2023 or later, but it's not on the Creative Cloud. Does anyone know the best way to go about this? I tried to utilize the Adobe Support chat, but since it isn't business hours I can't get a response there right now.
Version 4 ICC Profiles were converted to version 2 ICC Profiles during PDF Export
Recently updated to this version. If I highlight any text and go to the font dropdown palette, when I hit the slider to move down the font list, the palette closes and I can't select another font. If I don't select any text I can choose any font I want - but then I have to retype in order to use my new font. Not a prefs issue - I checked. Ugh - I have a long document ot edit and if I have to go through this for every font change, it's going to be a very long day....
Hey folks, Novice to InDesign (using it on Mac), used it a few times but just for fun. Working on a long(ish) book, about 120 pages and wanted to ask what is the best way for me to set up new chapters? Should I be using page breaks? I think it is bad practice to use a load of returns to get to a new page right? Or am I supposed to be setting it up in Paragraph Styles for the last para of each chapter or something? Not sure what to do and am starting out in the book so just want to get things right in the early setup. I've set up para and charatcer styles for the main text so it seems ok there, just wondering about how to deal with new chapters. Should I be using the Book Panel? I understand that that would make each chapter a separate file or something? Appeciate any help. Thank you.
Hello,I create a number of InDesign files that include interactive text fields and checkboxes. After exporting them, I always add the JavaScript app.runtimeHighlight = false;to the pdf file in Acrobat to make sure that the blue highlights do not appear on the buttons. I do this very often and it can become a pain to keep adding it back into the pdf after each round of edits and export. Is there a way to add this script into the InDesign file so that it will run upon opening the pdf in Acrobat every time I export it so that I don't have to do it manually each time?I know how to add a script to InDesign, but I don't know how to get it to run automatically on the opening of the pdf in Acrobat. Only if you click a button.Thank you.
Hi,I'm using the STIX Two Text font for the "greater than or equal to" symbol (Unicode 2265). However, in the generated PDF, it appears as a Symbol font instead.It seems InDesign automatically substituted the f ont because STIX Two Text does not include the U+2265 character.Since the missing glyph wasn't flagged, it's hard to identify the issue.Is there any way to detect missing glyphs in InDesign, either manually or through a script? Regards,Murali
It doesn't seem right for me to write it this way.The result in if is always false. if(table.rows[-1].cells.everyItem().appliedCellStyle.name!=="ABC"){ . . . }
I’m working on a client project in InDesign with a tight deadline, and all of my Share for Review comments disappeared — both from the InDesign file and the online review link. The file had many client comments as recently as yesterday (7/17). I got through editing up to page 50 before they vanished. I asked the client to leave a new comment to test if the review was still connected — now only that new comment appears, and none of the previous ones are showing.I didn't delete or relink anything, and I’m logged into the correct Adobe ID. This is for a deliverable due this week, and I urgently need help recovering the original comments.Any advice or recovery options would be deeply appreciated.
When placing PDF's into a document and printing them, InDesign seems to randomly cause some items to be removed from the layout. It seems to be mostly Canva PDF's that are affected. Screenshot 1 - my client's Canva PDF is dropped into our printer (Fiery Command Workstation). Everything is correct in the preview.Screenshot 2 - I need the document 2-up on a sheet so I lay that out with InDesign and print to the Fiery. Now there is a bunch of text missing in the tan colored box. I can even make a PDF of this 2-up layout and it removes the items from the PDF. This problem started with InDesign 2023. I still have 2022 installed for this very purpose because these files print fine from 2022. I've been burnt by this problem several times now and keep hoping a new version will fix it. 2023, 2024 and 2025 do not fix it.
I am using a macbookair with OS 15.5 and InDesign 20.4.1 Typically, I write in both Japanese and English and for English input I use what is called ABC-Extended that lets me add macrons and such to the letters. This works in all apps (Word, Mail, Safari, etc) but it does not work in InDesign. InDesign does not recognize the ABC-Extended input and so I need to use the "Keyboard Viewer" to manually add special letters. How can I get InDesign to recognize ABD-Extended input?
I have a document that I set up with primary text frames from the very start of the workflow. I'm using it as a template for all the documents going into a book. However, I've gotten almost to the end of formatting the pages for the current section in one particular file and it's suddenly decided to switch from primary text frames to normal ones, so the final page has overset text instead of continuing for the 2 or 3 more pages required. I've checked the master pages and the primary text boxes are still set up and present. I tried to re-apply to master page to the pages in question but that just gave me new primary text frames under the ones I already have. Is there a way of fixing this that doesn't involve cutting everything and pasting it into a new document? I don't want to jsut manually create text boxes on some new pages as that will presumably mess up any reflowing which will inevitably happen during editing and defeat the point of using the primary tex
Hi, I'm having trouble importing pdfs to indesign. Files under 3mb easily get imported but files over 5mb take forever to import and I just cancel the import beacuse it justs loads for over 2mins and I lose patience. I thought the file was the problem but I tried different files and it's the same problem. I even tried on another device, my macbook, and it works perfectly fine on that device. There's a problem on my windows laptop for some reason even though it's much more powerful than my macbook air. Are there any settings I have to change etc. Any suggestions please?
Hi, my Company is thinking about using One Drive instead of our onsite storage, we have sometimes 5 designers working on multiple files at a time & perhaps doing corrections to these files throughout the day. Can the InDesign, Illustrator & Photoshop files be openedd from One Drive without having to download these files to our own desktops & uploading without any issues? If so what is the best way to do this. I use One Drive for sharing files with others but have never worked on files only downloaded them & saved on our Network? We have PC Windows 11. cheers Leanne
Why are my paragraph tags splitting into individual lines (all in their own tag) when I export out of Indesign CC to an accessible PDF? I've tried both with and without using the articles panel. It makes for a much more complicated document structure in Acrobat when you need to make some changes. Have checked all of the proper buttons such as "Use for reading order" in the articles panel, and editing the export tags, etc.
Has anyone else been having issues with the baseline grid since the last InDesign update?When I align text to the baseline grid, it suddenly jumps around or doesn't align properly—even though I've set the option correctly in the text settings panel.
I 'd like to use the new Indesign option to insert MathML for equations. I have a Word document with a lot of equations that I need to convert to MathML on a Mac. Anybody who has done this before and knows how to do this? <Title renamed by MOD>
Hi Community,I'm venturing into new territory and trying to place an .XLSX table into my .INDD class syllabus. I have watched a handful of videos and read a few threads. I must be making a BEGINNER'S mistake somewhere. To troubleshoot, I made three different .XLSX files, descending in complexity from my desired file, down to a test file with only single digit integers and no formatting. I have create links to placed files turned on.I have import options checked. After the import menu, there is nothing loaded on the cursor and it's as if I didn't use the Place function at all. Exactly NOTHING happens. Bleep blorp bloop. I'm attaching SS of the .XLSX in Excel, the destination .INDD, and the Import options menu as it populates for me (mostly greyed-out, allowed to set cell-range, table style, that's about it.) *also: I realize the cell range does not match the test dataset, it does match the desired dataset in screenshots further down the post). I have always shared my creative cloud with my wife. She only uses indesign and acrobat and now there are requests for her to update and sign in. How and why does this happen?
Why is that, it says the findWhat property setting is invalid?What it should say is that gre doesn't have any data I originally got it right by writing it directly like this:var res = getGrepSearch("@", app.activeDocument); gre = new RegExp('@'); main(){ var res = getGrepSearch(gre, app.activeDocument); } . . . .. . function getGrepSearch(fp, s) { app.findGrepPreferences = app.changeGrepPreferences = app.findChangeGrepOptions = null; app.findChangeGrepOptions.properties = { includeHiddenLayers: true, includeLockedLayersForFind: true, includeLockedStoriesForFind: true, includeMasterPages: true } app.findGrepPreferences.findWhat = fp; //return app.findGrep() return s.findGrep() }
I have a document with page numbers on the master. If I data merge to a ID file everything is good. If I export directly to a PDF my page numbers get whacked. If I pull the page numbers off the master it works fine both ways.The pages should go i, ii, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 when they go wonky I get i, ii, 1, 2, 1, 2, 1, 2, 1 And its like this in 3 files so something is whacked. Any ideas other than the obvious answer to just put them in the doc??
I discovered an issue with a PDF file exported from InDesign. The document contained a text object with a gradient, partially overlaying a photo. So essentially, a text element with a transparent effect placed on top of a pixel-based image.The PDF was exported using the PDF/X-1a preset, so I expected the file to be fully flattened. Visually, the file looked fine, and PitStop Preflight reported no issues. The next step was to place the file into Kodak Preps for imposition for offset printing. At that stage, everything still appeared correct.However, the imposed PDF exported from Preps showed the text object without the gradient. Instead, the text was filled with just one of the gradient colors. After testing and replicating the issue, I found that it did not occur if I flattened the PDF a second time in Acrobat, or if I removed the photo underneath the affected object. Another workaround was converting the text to outlines.My conclusion is that a text object with a gradient over a photo
