InDesign

After an INDD upgrade I am warned that “unconverted documents in <file.indb> will need to be converted when updating numbering or synchronising …” What does this conversion do? Is it likely to affect text flow around placed images, or create text box overflows? 

Every since my InDesing updated to 20.1, when I select a window or block of text, it will not show as highlighted, but it is. I have to click off and then click back onto the block a few times so that the box appears normally selected. Overall, InDesign seems to be running a bit sluggish as well after this update. Obviously, something needs to be fixed in this last update because the "removes bugs" didn't work. Now I have NEW bugs that weren't here before.

Hi again! 🙂 I just converted a PDF into an indesign file, but I noticed it came with a bunch of section breaks —  the page numbering restarts every 1, 2 or 3 pages. I've selected all pages and tried to override the sections by starting a whole new section in "numbering and section options" but it just affected the first section/the first two pages. By any chance, does anyone know a good workaround so that it won't be necessary to manually reset all the sections one by one, not in this nor in future converted documents, please?

If I have an .indd project file inside a OneDrive folder on my desktop (I like to work on the cloud to avoid any loss of data), after a few saves the .indd file gets corrupted. What is this mess? why won’t Adobe update such a simple feature and make it work with Cloud apps? This is 2026 ladies and gentlemen.

I'm using macOS Sonoma 14.2.1. I need InDesign version 19.0, but the "Other Versions" pop-up window in Creative Cloud only shows versions up to 20.0. How can I access InDesign version 19.0? I urgently need help.

Neben einem Seitenicon stehen ja normalerweise die Seitenzahl --, das ist auch bei mir so, ABER nicht hinter jedem Seitenicon.Der fertig generierte Index scheint mir aber nur die Einträge wirklich mit Seitenzahl anzuzeigen, wo im Verweisfenster auch Zahlen daneben stehen.Wenn ich auf ein Seitenicon klicke, das keine Zahl daneben hat und es so m

I have the Indesign file for our company 2025 Calendar, and I wanted to update it for 20269. The person who created the 2025 Calendar is no longer here so I can not ask how they set it up. From the googling and chatgpting I did it looks like there was a script to add the Calendar dates. However, when I look at the script file it is not there. Any suggestions, tips, help on what I can do to update this for 2026?

 Hi.I’ve meticulously formatted a non-fiction book of some 330 pages, with 12 chapters (defined as Sections with section markers applied.) Paragraph style for Chapters includes “Keep Option “Start on next odd page. I have a seperate parent page design for the chapter pages. This is assigned as required.Here’s my problem: the client now wants to add 20 new graphics, causing, of course, a ripple reflow of all the text in the book. I know how to add new pages, but when I do, the assigned Parent pages that define my Chapter starts do not ripple with the text content. So:If I have Section 3 starting on book page 27Then add 4 pages to section 2 (manually or with auto reflow)Section 3’s start STAYS on the document’s p27 when I would expect it to be shunted to p31Also, the parent previously applied to p27 doesn’t move “forwards” by 4 pages either, throwing off everything thereafter.Is there a different way I should be doing this?ANY help appreciated.thank you

Hello. I am new to creating my own book, so forgive my naïveté and what I believe are some simple questions. I have set up my book (which is essentially a photography book with limited text) with .05 inch margins on each side of the page. My photos are centered in the margin space of each page. When printed will there be a .05 inch margin aka white space around each photo? I would prefer the white space to be smaller around each photo. Can I do .375 inches around 3 sides of the page and then .5 inches for the inside binding area? Will that allow the printer enough space to trim? And I would still have white space around my photo? (I am aware if I want a full page photo to place the image to the bleed line.)Thank you for your help, Kelly T 

I work with a colleague. We use the same InDesign files. I have recently encountered a problem. It only happens to me; my colleague does not have this problem, even though he uses the same files. Text sometimes “jumps” down a bit when I enlarge the text box, change the font size, or simply duplicate a page. I have already researched this, but have not yet found an explanation for it and nothing has helped. We both use the font via Adobe Fonts.

I just published my 468-page 8.5” by 11” book with over 1,000 illustrations. It was designed in InDesign using bleed, margin, gutter settings, text anchoring with word wrap, 27 object styles, subtle object style overrides, image groupings,  paragraph styles, character styles and more. I now want to know how to start the process of Kindle and other ePub conversion. It seems that trying to work in the current document setup, which was tailored for print, would be very awkward. I downloaded Kindle Previewer and Adobe Digital Editions for previewing my edits, but what about InDesign workflow and document setup? Any suggestions to make this process easier?Thanks!

I have been trying to create a threaded table in InDesign.I created the original table and then struggled to thread it into another frame.  After many attempts I managed it but have no idea how. Threading works fine through these two frames but now I want to extend to a further frame. Whichever way I try it just won’t work. When I try to add rows at the bottom of the table I don’t get an overset text indicator, the new rows appear OVER THE TOP of the existing table. By enlarging the frame widthways the new rows then space out to the side within the enlarged frame which is not what I want.I have tried creating a new frame first and then linking the frames by clicking the out point of the first frame to load content and then placing into the new frame. This links the frames but does not load any of the table or text.If I load the content and then just place on the blank page a new linked frame is created but again no table or text within it.Is the fact that I don’t see an overset text in

I use InDesign to create our church bulletins each week, and we include several images and QR codes (not generated by InDesign, but imported as images). After I complete and edit everything, I created a “print booklet” and email it to our office administrator. But beginning in January, we have had trouble with a single QR code. It shows up on my computer, but when I email it to her all of a sudden the file shows a white circle where the QR code used to be. All of the other images appear to be fine. I have tried re-placing the QR code, generating a new QR code and placing the new image, embedding the image. None of it seems to work. What’s going on and how do I fix it?

Does anyone have any practical observations about working with Projects in InDesign 2026?Can I File > Package files and load them into a Projects folder for sharing?Is it limited to only files that are already cloud-based?I can find no clear information in the helpx so far.

I have an indesign project that is about 13-16MB.  I'm gone through and decreased the size of all the jpegs so they are all under 500mb in the file.  I have a few pdf's in the file that are 500-1,000 MB. When I export, I have it set to downsize to 72 PPI but I have the quality set at maximum.  If I decrease that too much, than the quality just isn't as good.  When I do all of that my PDF is still about 7MB.  From there I've optimized the PDF and I've also tried to reduce the PDF size and that only gets it down to about 6MB.  Is there something else that I'm missing.  I've looked at some settings and it shows that my content streams are about 50% which is the same as my images.  Is there something I can do to decrease that.  I basically have text, some arrows, lines, and a table in my document and then the rest is jpegs and a few pdfs.  Are the arrows/lines causing that high content stream or would it be the PDF's inside the document.

Windows 11, updated / Intel Ultimate 9 @ 3.7 / 96 Gig RAM / Nvidia RTX 5080 Indesign CC2026 l(latest version) goes through the starting sequence to the screen reached when the app startup is complete – with hourglass on and the app is non-responsive. Hi,I’m running into an issue using the Extendscript Debugger plugin in VsCode. When debugging a script and using breakpoints, I’m able to jump to the next breakpoint, but a spinning beach ball prevents me from accessing the GUI from VsCode, preventing me from adding watch variables or adding breakpoints. How do I fix this?I’m using the latest version of the plugin from the GitHub Repo, on Os X 26.2, using Indesign 2025/2026, VsCode 1.103.2, on an Apple M3.Thank you. 

I make business cards from Publisher. It has the ability to make multiple copies per sheet: The file is 3.5x2 inches with one business card. When printing, I select “multiple copies per sheet” and “10 copies.” It looks like this: I have tried in Acrobat, InDesign and Illustrator to find a way to make 10 copies on a sheet from one 3.5x2 inch file. I keep hearing that the only way to do it is to start with an 8.5x11 document, make one 3.5x2 inch business card and duplicate it 9 more times. We need an easy way to do it, like Publisher. Any suggestions?

My InDesign file suddenly started listing missing images to a page that doesn’t exist. I am the only person who has ever worked on this file. These images weren’t listed in the links panel yesterday when I closed the file but they appeared this morning when I opened it.
