InDesign

Just a bout forever I have been have to use the option  (or shift and option if I want to duplicate horizontally or vertically)  to duplicate an element and drag it to where I want it to be. It is not working anymore. When I click on an object the double arrow does appear, but as soon as I drag, it disappears...I use this all the time, what is the fix?

I am moving text from Google Drive and Word to a text frame in InDesign. Part of the text won’t fill the frame. How do I make those two paragraphs touch the right edge?  Thank you!  

The 3 that I worked on are not showing a preview. The other images that my colleagues worked on, are showing a preview image. Does anyone know why?

When Saving As in Indesign, the 'Saving As Type' randomly changes to PNG even though I only ever save to PDF. Not only it’s annoying😠 it’s also a waste of time having to pick that from the options almost every single time, instead of it remembering is as the last/most used choice and just hitting enter. It wasn’t like this in the past. Is it a bug or something?Perhaps there’s a way to set PDF as the go-to type for all files? 

Style B was created based on Style A (using `baseOn`), but sometimes it doesn’t inherit Style A’s original options. I need to reset Style B’s base options and then set Style B’s other options.How do I write the code for “reset to base style”?It seems I couldn’t find a way to do this before, so I ended up using `duplicate();` as a workaround. 

I wanted to ask if there is a prerelease version for IDS which is made available before the public release? The InDesign Server trial prerelease seems to have not been updated since years now. So what is the process currently? How do other folks supporting IDS solutions plan the updates?

I’m having trouble creating an interactive PDF file.I have a form where people can choose a design using radio buttons. See the image below.The radio buttons are supposed to show and hide specific fields, buttons, and text. This works correctly for the following options:Softcover boek Magazine Zelfomslag brochure Wire-o boekHowever, the options Poster and Flyer do not show the correct fields.For some extra context: all fields for the options above are placed on separate layers to make the workflow easier. All layers are visible. All interactive form fields have names that indicate which radio button they should be connected to.For some reason, the Poster radio button does not work correctly. It does not show the fields that belong to Poster. However, when I set some fields from Softcover boek to become visible when Poster is selected, those fields do appear.So it seems the Poster button itself is working, but it is not showing the correct Poster-related fields. Does anyone have an idea

Still feeling depressed and unsolvable.I have packaged the fonts and placed them in the Document fonts directory. When I opened the document, I found that the fonts pointed to C: \ windows \ fonts or other font directories.Normally, the Document fonts directory should be checked first. If it cannot be found, should it be directed to the C drive?When pointing to Document fonts, the path will display 'Fonts installed in the document' I have already reopened my ID, and even restarting my computer doesn't work. Still pointing to C: \ windwos \ fontsIs there any way?Why is there no bug report classification in InDesign when posting? 

I am experiencing a persistent "Error updating links/artifact" when trying to update an existing Share for Review link. I need to keep the current URL to preserve existing client comments, but the update fails every time with a generic error message.I have inspected my UXP logs and found a specific HTTP 400 (Bad Request) error. It disappears after a focus change, but editing continues normally after I click back in the text. When I click back into the text, the insertion point does not reappear until I have used an arrow key or typed something. When it does reappear, it is wherever in the text that my mouse cursor was when I clicked back in. I can work around the problem, but it's a nuisance. Has anyone else experienced this?There is no similar behavior in any other application; it is peculiar to ID.Thanks

I just embedded twenty HEIC files in an INDD file and the file rapidly became extremely sluggish. The color wheel of death spun regularly for almost every 5th action step. Even simple adjustments into the file, caused the color wheel to spin. Its time to get this bug fixed from Indesign.

Good morning/ afternoon / evening to you all.I've got a user who has InDesign 20.3.1 x64 installed on their computer. For the last two weeks the following problem occurs: Open an INDD file using File, Open and the file opens as Read Only. If you use Windows File Explorer to open the file (Double-click to open file) it opens fine. I've gone round the houses (and forums) with this one and cannot find anything to give me a hint of where to start looking at this. The user has had InDesign for years and this problem only started 2 weeks ago. Diagnostics:PC is an Intel I7 with 32 GB RAM, running Windows 11. The InDesign files are all stored on a network drive. Windows Reliability History shows no major updates to the operating system or to system drivers, other than the standard Security Intelligence updates for Microsoft Defender, for the time period involved. I’m using the “For Next Number of Paragraphs” type for an index entry and setting it to 2. The second paragraph extends onto the following page, but the index is only showing the first page.

"basedOn" is merely a setting, but it doesn't actually take effect.I can see in the b1 object style that it is based on a1, but in fact, b1 does not inherit a1's settings.It might be because “basedOn” was set later.Do I need to “reset the baseline options”?How is this script written?app.documents[0].objectStyleGroups.itemByName(AA). objectStyles.itemByName(b1).properties = { basedOn: app.documents[0].objectStyleGroups.itemByName(AA).objectStyles.itemByName(a1), 

Every time I export A InDesign file as PDF it gets saved massive like 40-80 MB, Some people suggested to Uncheck “Preserve InDesign editing capabilities”, but I cant find this in the latest version (Dont know about older versions)???

When ID packages the file, it is simply not possible to package the fonts all together. A nice font packaging script that someone else shared for free. But it prompts an error for some files. Hello Adobe Team,   I would like to request that Adobe InDesign once again include support (or at least a conversion feature) for opening **PageMaker (.PMD)** files.   Many designers and publishers still have important archives created in PageMaker, and it has become very difficult to access or update those files since modern InDesign (CC versions) no longer supports them.   Even a simple **"Convert PMD to INDD/IDML"** option or a **legacy import plug-in** would be extremely useful. It would save time, preserve historical work, and help users migrate old projects without depending on outdated software like InDesign CS6. I Know this is Very Old but if Including this Feature Indesign Again Market Leader and Forever.... I have tried many times to switch to InDesign, but I couldn’t because of this problem. I have mysterious blank space showing up at the bottom of a page. The text refuses to flow into it. I’ve checked for hidden objects, deleted the page itself, and replaced the text. Nothing I’ve tried fixes it. I’m attaching a screen shot with an arrow pointing to the blank space. I’m working on a Windows machine. It’s throwing off my pagination. On a different topic, does any one else find the new requirement to choose a “Category” on this page a pain? There is so much vertical space, and it’s not alphabetized, that it’s frustrating and time consuming.

Hi everyone - I have just bought a new MacBook and everything seems to work except for the mouse in InDesign.  I have just tried working with text on a document created on the previous computer.  I need to place the curse quite a bit higher than the text that I wish to select.  I am using the trackpad on the MacBook.  Any suggestions would be gratefully received!

Can anyone help me remove these white boxes? I published online  a project from indesign and indesign does not show any of these white objects. Now it is appearing in all of the pages once i publish it online.  any idea of how can I remove this?

Custom Workspace in Indesign includes extra panels. Some instructions say to set the panels "with no document open." When there's no document open, there are no panels. I've tried doing it in a brand new document, but it still insists on displaying the Swatches panel. I’m on Windows.
