Hello Community. I have a problem with the installation of InDesign, the error says "InDesign will not be able to run in your operating system". I am getting ready to sell my printing, typesetting, layout and design company of 46 years and retire. I would like to get your opinion on how to you value the following into the selling price of the business:I have been using this software since day 1 of Aldus PageMaker 1.0. Running an M3 Macbook and after upgrading to ID20 data merge has stopped working. I create the document, asign all the placeholders and when I attach the csv file everything looks fine when I preview through each. I then click "Create Merged Document" and nothing happens. Tried reinstalling ID, tried creating a fresh document. Nothing seems to work and there's no error prompts. I've had to import my documents back into a copy of ID19.5 to merge them. Anyone had this issue or know of a solution?

Hi, Where are the front cover, back cover, and spine placed in a book layout in InDesign? Sould it be its own file?  Thanks! 

Well this is an annoying problem.  I'm working with a bunch of Arabic text copied from a Word doc and pasted into InDesign CC.  And while the text is flowing in the right direction, the periods insist on winding up on the right margin at the end of the text instead of after the last character in the sentence, at the end of the line to the left.I've set the character to Adobe Arabic Regular, the text to right justify, the Language under Character to Arabic, and the Paragraphs to Adobe World-Ready Paragraph Composer.In Googling for solutions, I see instructions to Select the paragraph direction from the Paragraph panel (not an option in my Paragraph panel), choose Character Direction from the Character panel (also not an option), From the Story panel (Window > Type & Tables > Story), click a story direction (not available).  I've also tried adding spacing and hard returns before and after the period character, changing that character to another font and re-placin

Hi guys,I have some issues (both in digital and offset printing) with a poster that includes: a black and white image + color graphics.– When I export my print .pdf file with a CMYK color profile, I get a deep black but I always end up with a color cast on the black and white image, as a result of the printing process (the color cast can be C, M or Y in different cases).– I can't export the whole print file with a grayscale color profile, because the poster includes not only the black and white image but also some color graphics.Also, even if the poster was only black and white: with a grayscale color profile there is no color cast on the black and white photo, but apparently I can't get a deep black, which is only achieved by adding C+M+Y (almost 70% of each color to reach a total black of 300%). Is this correct? Is there any difference if I import a grayscale .tif into my .indd file and then convert it to 300% black using the corresponding color swatch? I have tried several expo

Hi,I would like to set up something like this for my book layout. I know how to create a basic rectangle box, but I want to achieve having the text on top, where the line doesn’t go through the text. How can I achieve that in InDesign and also create a style so I can reuse it across my book Thank you! 

Suppose I "Place" page 3 out of a 44 pages PDF document and then, later, need to change to page 10.How is that ever possible without going through the Import procedure over?I must be missing something really ovbious. Also, I often import a given Artboard number out of an Adobe Illustrator document: how could I later change my mind and instead get another Artboard out of the same document WITHOUT going through the Import process over? I don't think it's possible at all... Have not seen how to do this... BTW, I'm currently running 19.5 on Windows: is the new "Open PDF" (natively) in this version or only in the Beta?

I recently upgraded to InDesign 2024. I use BetterSnapTool to arrange my app-windows in order to have a efficient and practical workflow. But InDesign 2024 does not work with BetterSnapTool (BST) or any other window-snapping apps due to this reason I received from the BST support:"Unfortunately all window manager apps on macOS are affected by this, Adobe has broken their window resizing behavior in their recent updates. Their products do not respond correctly to window resizing requests using the macOS Accessibility API anymore. As of now I don't think there is anything I can do to fix this. If possible please also report to Adobe, they would need to fix this in their apps." BST works with every other application. I have reset InDesign preferences, but it still does not work properly. Therefore I still use InDesign 2023, since BST works perfectly fine with that application. Hey team,  I want my bullets (in my paragraph stlye) to inherit the stying attributes (in this case colour) from the character style that I am using to colour the entire paragraph. This is appose to creating a new character style for the bullet.  So as an example, I have a P-style called body and 2 C-styles called blue and magenta. This lets me keep the paragraph style the same but alter the colour. However it seems overly labourious to create C-styles just for the bullets so they match.  Any ideas? 

I’m working on a multi-page document in InDesign and need to link text boxes across several pages so the text flows automatically as I add or edit content. Could someone explain the process for creating linked text frames and any tips for managing large amounts of text efficiently? Are there shortcuts or tools to streamline this workflow? Les changements d'états ne se font lors du clic sur les boutons de navigation alors que c'est ok lors du test avec l'aperçu de l'interactivité EPUB. Y at'il une opération spécifique pour l'exportation au format PDF interactif ?

Hallo liebes Forum, ich arbeite mit der InDesign CC Version 18.3 und habe seit einigen Wochen das Problem, dass meine Indesign Dokumente nur noch "schreibgeschützt" öffnen. Das war bisher nicht so.Sobald ich die InDesign Dokumente nach dem Bearbeiten unter dem selben Namen speichen möchte, erscheint die Meldung      Allerdings sind die Dokumente nicht in anderen Anwendungen geöffnet (nur ich arbeite mit den Dateien) und liegen auf einem Server ab.Hat jemand eine Idee, wie man das Problem beheben kann?

We use CSV table imports for a bunch of text and logos, and the logos would not import under 19.x. We did the fix of deleting Enable_Posix_Path and it worked as expected. Unfortunately, now that is no longer a valid fix for 20.x.It would be unfeasable for us to fix how we do the paths in the CSV files we use (there are thousands, and we use OneDrive, so everyone's Mac has a different user folder, so you cannot update the path to work for everyone).  Is there any help available for this? Thanks!

My swatches panel is missing the bottom options/icons for: create folder, create swatch, trash can, add to cc library, etc. I have deleted all preferences, uninstalled InDesign, then reinstalled InDesign. I tried turning "Options" on and off. Is there another area that I should be looking to show it?

I updated to 20.0.1 a couple of days ago and me and my colleague (both on Sonoma 14.6.1.)  have this issue: When trying to edit text or numbers in text frames by choosing the letter or number, and trying to click any number or letter on the keyboard (to replace it), nothing happens. You have to click twice for the text/number to change. This happens randomly, not all the time. If you paste the text, then it doesn't happen. It makes working very difficult.   

 Created a book using your plug-in, but as soon as I try to send it (starting creator via InDesign) the program shuts down. I have updated everything possible and also tried later versions of InDesign as well.I’m using CC Library for some vector-based images, but otherwise, only regular images and text. Around 50 pages.What to do?

Does anyone know...We would like to use Scritping to process a folder of InDesign documents, one by one, and write a report to a text file when done. The problem I'm having is that if the any of the InDesgin documents have broken Graphic Links, the scripts pauses while waiting for user input while opening that particular document. Is there any way to suppress this dialog 'warning' that InDesign throws up so that we can just process all of the documents in the folder without pausing?Some of the directories we have hold hundreds of documents. I don't want to start the script and have to sit there and hit the return key for nearly every single document.Thanks in advance.

Hello I haven't found an easy solution here to work with the clipboard contents by placing it in a variable, to modify it. Using paste() it will be placed in the document. But first I want to format it and delete some of its parts. Regards

Hi everyone. I remember once in a class I was shown a feature in indesign, which you can automatically sort the order of a list of things, for instance, names, by how they looks best with their right side rags. Not just by their length but by how the block with the names look best with their right side rags. If that makes sense I saw tutorials of using scripts to sort list alphabetically but that is not quite what I am looking for  I have been trying to figure out how to do it, looks like no resources on line and the class was years ago so I can't go back and ask. If anyone knows how to do that please let me know greatly appreciated!

Hey has anyone worked out how to stop new rows being created when moving pages across to other files within indesign?Noticed recently and haven't worked out a fix. They seem to be In order, just annoying
