InDesign

I've had to reinstall InDesign a few times now and everytime it loses my GREP saved searches, my workspaces, my downloaded scripts, etc. I had assumed the benefit of a Cloud-based application would be that it would save these sorts of things so you don't have to start from scrtach each time. Am I missing something?

I am setting up my first "accessible" document in InDesign; I understand that before I can start Export Tagging, I must first assign a hierarchy (h1, h2, body text, etc) in Paragraph Styles. However, my document contains headings which vary somewhat depending on context: one will contain paragraph spacing after a previous paragraph, some are part of a numbered list, and so on. How do I assign them all as h1 for assistive technology without InDesign making them all the same (either all with a numbered list when I don't want it, or with different spacing assigned to it)? I feel I'm missing a very basic bit of information, yet I can't seem to locate it anywhere in the Support Community. Thank you for any assistance you can provide!

Hello I'm not sure where to post this question, but I have a problem with the indesign to adobe express export new feature.So most of my document is in Lato font, when I export the document, the placement and everything seems to be fine except some text fields. I will attach the image so you get the idea.It seems like the lato font appears to be exactly the same TECHNICALLY. BUT it appears to be different somehow, now the resolution I found is to delete the text field copy drag the correct text field and then paste the previous contents.Does anyone knows why that happens? And possible solution?So the left font is "Lato Regular" and the right font is exactly the same "Lato Regular" seen in adobe express.

Hi everyone, I am looking for a specific style for my text. I want to replace colon (:) after the first word in every paragraph and add a pink background to the first word, like in the attached image. I want to do this using paragraph nested style to automate it. How to do it? I am also attaching a plain InDesign file with the text. I am trying to create a hyperlink inside my Indesign file to an Word file online, am i able to do so? and i choose "File" in this panel but he hyperlink doens't work after export it, did i make anything wrong? please help. Thank you. 

Two weeks ago, I bought a Mac Studio. I want to convert a 100-page InDesign file to a printable PDF. InDesign crashes.I reinstalled InDesign. I couldn’t solve the problem. I couldn't find any source on the internet or the Adobe support community. The same file was working very well on my six years old iMac. I brought my Mac to the Apple store today. The machine is working very well. Has anybody had the same issue?I am not able to send the file to the printer.Please advise.  I am stuck. I have a macOS Monterey, version 12.3.1, Apple M1 Ultra, Memory 64 GB Mac Studio.Adobe InDesign ver 17.2

I'm trying to understand why IND will update links automatically the first time I save, but if I go back and edit the image again I have to go into the Links panel, select the image and click the update button each time. Is there a way to make IND automatically update each time so I can avoid the extra clicks? Sometimes I will go adjust a PS image multiple times to see how it looks in IND.   

HiIn InDesign CS6In Arabic, whenever I add fullstop or period at the end of the line, it shows as %.I use font Rubik, and it works on all vesrions perfectly except InDesign. If you faced this problem on any version, please share solution. Thanks

Hello Indesign gurus,I have several Indesign docs with hyperlinks linking to pages between them. The links work in the source docs -- i.e. they jump to the right page in a different doc.But after compiling those docs together into an InDesign book and exporting to interactive PDF, those links no longer work (they default to the cover page).  Hyperlinks to URLs continue to work.There are a lot of links; is there a way to restore their function from the source doc or in the creation of the book PDF? Specs: Mac OS Sequoia. 15.1.1; InDesign v20.0.1 Many thanks in advance for help in this urgent matter!Angela

How can I remove an image (or rather a link to an image) generated by GenAI from an InDesign document that is only visible in the "Links" panel? The original is deleted from my computer and from the document, but it is displayed in the "Links" panel and there is no image frame in the document (it does not show the page). It is also not in the "Text to Image" panel. I have no idea how to get this to work.Thanks in advance for your tipsTomasz

Hi! I hope this makes sense: I have set up a 'bullet one' paragraph style that after the list of bullets includes a 1 basline grid gap before the next paragraph style. I have a 'bullet two' paragraph sstyle that is more will apply to lists within the list. When I apply this style I do not want the space after bullet one to apply specifically when followed by bullet two. Is there a way to do this? without have to create a second version of the bullet one style.You cant put a negative number in the space before command for bullet two but this is kind of what Im after? Im using InDesign 18.5.1

I have a long image that I'd like to split in order to print on several pages as it's too long for a single page. So for example, I'd like the top third of the image on page 1, the middle third on page 2 and the bottom third on page 3. Is there a straightforward way of doing this?  My starting point was a simple paste to put the image an a single page but I cannot see how progress from there. (image attached). I have looked at creating a spread but cannot see how to get the image to spread beyond the first page. I am fairly novice at InDesign so I'm not really familiar enough to look for the right things to search for. I'm using InDesign 2024 on Windows 10 64-bit Can anyone help? Thanks

My document has threaded copy throughout. There was overset text on the last page, when I went to create another textbox to link it, it automatically threaded to something off the page (indicated by red line). I thought maybe there is a hidden text frame but have not found anything. I also used the breaking thread script, but that didn't work. I replaced the text frame and still nothing. I selected all on the page, got nothing. I even cleared out object styles, and paragraph styles, but it still keeps threading outside of the artboard. Please help! 

Hello! I really hope someone can help me.My end goal is to make a PDF of an Indesign book file that has been re-ordered for perfect bound signatures with 16 pages in each. In the past I've been able to do this through Print Booklet --> Create a PostScript File with all my settings --> then save it as a PDF from there. My problem is, I'm on a new computer now and I cannot customize page sizes or options for post script files (It's an 8.5x11 file but the PostScript file always comes out portrait orientation and cuts off part of the book (Basically won't rotate)I tried the "Solution" where you create a PPDs folder in the Presets of Indesign and then download ADPDF9.PPD . It does not work for me for an unknown reason, I still only see "Device Dependent" under PPD Options.Please help!

I have a file with several hyperlinks imported from a Word document. Is there a ways to export a list of all the hyperlinks that includes the source, the destination (url, email, location) and the page the source appears on in the InDesign file? Something similar to the Hyperlinks panel with the destination viewable in a list. Exported file can be text or csv. I don't script so am not sure if this can be done or may already exist. Working in InDesign CC 2015.2 Release. OS: Windows 8, V. 6.3.Every time I try to open the Effects dialog box, it opens on my primary screen and only shows the bottom half of the window. I can't move the window by grabbing and moving it with my mouse; I've tried more configuration changes than I can even recall, and absolutely nothing is allowing me to move this window so I can see the whole thing.Any suggestions? I literally cannot use the effects because I can't see the entire dialog box to make selections. It's driving me bonkers.

Hi there I was hoping to find a fix for this. I have noticed when placing a document from Microsoft Word into Indesign all images, when exported to pdf, turn blue. Is there a way around this or do I have to first save all images  from the Word document into a folder and add them as seperate links?  Thank you

I am working on a catalog with around 700 text hyperlinks to web URLs that I inserted by hand which is a tedious and time consuming process. I first had the part with the hyperlinks in a separate document for easier management. When the linking was finished I copied the whole text with the links over into the layout of the final catalog. After that I noticed that a substantial part of those links was missing for no apparent reason and with no system behind it. I had to fix those links in the layout. I typically regularly save numerbed versions of my layouts to document my progress. Now I notice that again a huge part of the links is gone simply by saving the document into a new version. What is going on there?   <Title renamed by MOD>

I've had lots of problems with InDesign's Table of Contents generator, but this is a new one! In addition to the correct page number of where the heading appears in text, the tool added another tab and then the page number of the Table of Contents itself. Has this happened to anyone else and do you know how to fix? Photo attached, the black bars were added by me. Running InDesign 20.0.1 on Mac Sonoma 14.7.2

Hello I'm running the latest InDeisgn 2025 on a macbook pro (Apple M1 Pro) and have noticed that my force paragraph return shortcut is not working.  And it's only this one shortcut from what I have experience. It's been like this for many months now, and I've been using the dropdown menu to select this manually which takes up a little time. I've tried restarting InDesign while holding down Shirft + Control + Option + Command but this has not affected anything. Also, I'm not sure how I would check for conflicting shortcuts from other software (such as Webex).Any suggestions?Thanks

I am a beginner. Following a well-done tutorial. Snag....the paragraphs line up perfectly right side and on the spine side until the last sentence at the end of the paragraph example.sort                  better                                end.        I am hoping someone can advise me on how to fix this.

Hello, I'm working with Indesign 20.0.1 on a Macbook Pro 14" 2024 and Sequoia 15.1.1.Please find bellow fullscreen shots that describe the problem.01 : I'm working with a 3840x2160 HDMI external monitor.02 : I'm often using the shortcut Shift+W to see the current page in presentation mode.03 : When I'm pressing again the shortcut to exit fullscreen, Indesign's window is reduced,and I have to extend it to fit again the screen (shot 01).It also happens on my old Macbook Pro laptop.This is wasting time in my workflow, does anyone work with the same setup and an external monitor to see if this happens too.Thanks!!!
