I have been through an illness over the past year that has affected my brain processing, so please forgive me if this is an obvious question. I am barely hanging on at work. My company has been planning since 2022 planning to switch to another application for tech documentation, which kind of terrified me now because I don't think I can learn a new program with the way my mind is not working. Was relieved to learn yesterday that the switch has been shelved for at least another year. But now we need to upgrade to the latest version of FrameMaker. I am currently in FrameMaker 2019 version 15.0.6.956. I'm also using Windows 10 Enterprise. I am wondering how I would upgrade, and also if there is a cost to the upgrade. Thank you and please feel free to just link to relevant answer as I'm sure one is available but I've been unable to find it.

So I'm using structured FM, and I've noticed that when I have a figure on one page and a table on the next page, the figure title gets pushed  down to the next page (see attached image). Why is this happening? I have some books (Technical Manuals) made up of dozens of chapters with each chapter made up of several files. Each page has it's effective date and revision number inluded in the footer using dedicated paragraph tags. These manuals are printed/saved to PDF for use. Each manual has a List Of Effective Pages (LOEP), with effective dates and revision number, which has been created with the List of Paragraphs function. These books are set up so that the LOEP page layout is retained and the content automatically regenerated when the book is updated. There are a lot of pages and managing the LEOP manually is a lot of work. Prior to using Framemaker the work in updating the LEOP was much much more than the actual updating of the text. Hence one of the reasons for using Framemaker. The manuals require updating from time to time. Usually this involves just a few new or updated pages scattered through the manual. I have been working on a standalone document that includes a TOC. This originated in English and I was supplied a French version to tidy up. When I create a PDF the hand appears on the TOC entries but doesn't jump to the relevant chapter. Can somebody help me or tell me where I'm going wrong?

When I publish a book to epub from FrameMaker 2022, the chapnum variables are being published as a "&#8203", which seems to be unicode for a nonbreaking character. Any ideas how to circumvent this odd behavior?      

I'm using FM 2019, and I have a very big file that needs to be restructured by adding another "level". How do I change all Heading2 paragraphs to Heading3? Do I really have to go through the huge file and manually change one by one?

Hi, I have a weird problem. I have a Structapps FM XML application that is using XSLT to transform an XML file into a structured FM document. The XML files are exports from a database and I have 2 example files. One is working flawlessly without errors, the second one is producing some errors, which prompts FM to give out the error message that the XML file is not valid. I am building a small template meant for FM 2022. I have an issue with the TOC.. The TOC is to show Section titles, Chapter titles and Heading Titles. The Section Titles reside on a background frame on the Master Pages as can be seen in the illustration here. My issue is... I would like the Section Title to appear in the TOC BEFORE the Chapter Titles. But is it possible to change the order of appearance?    

I am working on a pulication with a gazillion tables. I need to reformat the text in the table to a smaller size, and when I do that, I am left with empty space in all the rows like this. How do I make the table rows fit in smart manner without having to adjust every single row?  

FM 17, Windows 11. Resuming our documentation development, I need to maintain the documents in two languages. I originally hoped to compose the original documents in English, then XLIFF everything to the other language, resulting in two complete sets of XMLs. 1. Unfortunately, exporting the book ditamap only includes the single topics and submaps are skipped. Does FM expect us to manually exporting every submaps in the book ditamap?2. Exporting the FM book is a bad idea, since I would keep working on the ditamaps for layout and relocating topics long after translation has been done.  Regards,Andy

Can we configure the 'Navigation View' in FrameMaker to display Headings 1, 2, 3, and 4? In my document, it is currently showing only Headings 1 and 2.  

Hi all,I'm currently evaluating FM2022, in comparison to FM2015 and FM2019. I noticed that PDF output of FM2022 files, which contain pixel graphics, is of lower quality than when saved from FM2019 with exactly the same settings (defined in the *.sts file: the standard setting High Quality Print, for Online output).This is especially visible when the file contains screenshots, which usually have evenly colored backgrounds with text on them. The FM2022 PDF output clearly has JPG compression artifacts, while the FM2019 output is clean. This is visible in the attached screenshot, which shows the same file as FM2019 PDF (on the left) and the FM2022 PDF (on the right).According to the parameters in the "High Quality Print" setting, color images should be recalculated and compressed (using the "Automatic: JPG" compressor) when they reach a resolution of 450 dpi (ppi) or higher. Hi there!If I use Shift+Enter in older versions of Adobe FrameMaker to insert a forced return within a fully justified paragraph, the line that ends with the forced return is not justified. Like this: Now I have v17 of FrameMaker installed. This version leaves the lines with Shift+Enter fully justified. Like this: How could I get legacy behaviour of forced return with lines aligned left like in older versions of FrameMaker?

I am creating a table of 17 rows from middle of page when it reaches to end of page whole table is shifted to next page. i want to shift only reaming rows move to next page. i set orphan rows 2 in table desinger.

Is it possible to have a context rule that resets the auto numbering after a certain value, e.g. if n=31, reset n=1.  *Structured FM17It can happen that several subsequent instances of the same Element uses the same number, e.g. 5. I use an Attribute (Counter) to specify whether the counter remains the same or is incremented. I don't now when the counter will reach 31, so I need to have it automatically restart at 1 if the next <n> value is 32. *Edited to add additional information/context

Hi all,I've just installed FM 2022 (currently using the test version) on a new PC (without any other Adobe SW). When trying to set up the publishing options, there are no PDF options to set, and there's no Distiller/Adobe printer installed in the system. Trying to publish any file to PDF leads to an error message about the "Distiller printer instance is not found"Has this changed from previous versions, or is this an installer error? How to add the usual FM headless Distiller, if the installer doesn't even offer this option? Do I have to manually unzip and install it from the installer files? Bernd

I'm having some problems with fonts in Framemaker 2022. Some fonts that I choose in a document, after opening it again, change.

My text is cut off by the anchored frame above it when the graphic in the frame is sized to fit the Frame. If I delete the graphic and leave the anchored frame in place, the text is no longer cut off.First screen capture from Frame, second from pdf (easier to see the issue)Any thoughts appreciated.    

I have a parent Element with an attribute (DayNum). I want to use the value of this attribute in the prefix rules of a child element. I can see that I can reference an Attribute in the PrefixRule, but it doesn't seem to recognise an Attribute from a parent element.In normal Context Rules, I can refer to the Attribute of the parent using ParentElement[ElementName = "Value"], but that doesn't seem to work in a PrefixRule.Is this possible?

The troubleshooting topic alone passed validation check, but it fails after I saved it as a book. Is there something I can do to fix this?    Moreover, the [title] of [cause] tag gets the proper subheading format, but after saved as a book that [title] would be formatted as title.0 instead.   Are these two problems related somehow?   FM 17 on Windows 11.  

Hi all, Ever since yesterday, whenever I try to save a document as a PDF, I'm getting the following error messages: After I click OK, Frame stops responding and then crashes/closes immediately. I've tried the following:Using File > Save as PDF (this is my normal go-to method for full chapters/books)Using the Publish podUpdating FrameUsing different documentsSaving as new file and replacing existing fileRebooting laptop None of the above has worked and none of my coworkers are having this issue either. I did email Adobe support this morning, but the email address they include in the error messages bounces back lmao. Has anyone seen this or know how to fix it? I'd like to avoid uninstalling/reinstalling frame if possible as my IT team would need to do that.  Thanks!

I have a tricky problem with automatically generated 'List of tables' document. I have table titles and a paragraph style for them. I generate a LOT where all table titles are listed with a page number. I have defined a paragraph style for a LOT lines/paragraphs having all fonts in plain black. Everything works, almost...   In source files, few table titles have emphasis character style to highlight part of the text in bold red. When I manually apply default character style on LOT paragraph, it changes fonts to plain black. But, the bold red fonts seems to re-appear to my LOT list in every book update, copied from source file. I have tried the definition <Default ¶ Font> in front of the LOT paragrah style in a reference page without success.   Somehow this original bold red lurks into my LOT although the LOT charracter style (plain black) is set in the Paragraph Designer. I have not found way to prevent this happening. What I have missed, any ideas?

Dear community,after updating FM to 17.0.5, it's not possible for me to export a book to XLIFF. I tried different approaches with large/small/real/test books. Each approach ends in the following error message:I'm surprised that the error message shows that the exceptions are thrown in files under C:\users\ravimetha\source\adobe-framemaker-xliff-plugin\entw\plugin\clients\… (see screenshot above)This user and/or files don't exist on my environment.My environment:WIN10 Enterprise Version 22H2 (Build 19045.5011)FM 17.0.5Are there any known issues in the XLIFF-Export?
