The new version of Illustrator is not allowing to use the "select by:" feature, it appears blocked.

In Illustrator (most recent up to date version), I did a shortcut and accidentally turned my workspace to white.  I went to preferences ->user interface ->brightness and changed the color.  It changes the interface except for the workspace color, it remains white. However; if I open a new document it does change to the appropriate color.  I just don't want to copy and paste all my work to a new document.  This happened at work on a PC. When I brought the file home I opened it on a IMAC with the same issue. 

Just updated to 29.8.1 and I can no longer copy and paste a vector direct from Illustrator into PowerPoint. I can normally just grab an illustration from Illustrator and copy/paste into PPT, but since the update it's pasting nothing. I'm on Windows 11 and have tried copying from different Illustrator files and also tried restarting computer but still the same. Perhaps someone could have a go and see if this is working for them or not. Thanks

So I frequently need to batch export a number of various artboards to JPGs for web use. The maximum size that the files can be is 100kb, and while some of the artboards are small (and really should be exported at maximum quality so that they don't get too pixelated), some of the artboards are larger and need to be imported at about 40% quality. Up until now I have been manually adjusting the quality of each of the files in order to remain within 100kb, but I'm wondering if there is any sort of script out there that can help me with this. Any ideas?

Hey all,Got a question. I’ve been drawing in Illustrator since the 1980’s, but am not up-to-speed on creating custom strokes, as I rarely ever have a need for them. Anyway, I currently have 78 floor plans to draw and more them half of them have this really funky/curvy balcony/terrace wall that is a bear to draw, and slowing me way down on getting these things cranked out. What I am wondering is if there is a way to create a custom stroke so that I can draw this wall with one vector line? This outer Terrace wall is what I am talking about…...and I’d also love to figure out a way to easily draw the curvy WINDOW wall with it’s little custom-placed sectional dividers if that’s possible. If you all can give me step-by-step advice that would be great. I normally would just draw these things without worry, but I have 78 of them to do and I need a quicker way of drawing these walls. 

I am trying to close multiple small paths into one large closed path. Ultimately, I need to save as an SVG so I can import in to a CNC router. The original files are gears for a wooden clock that started out as DXF files. There are hundreds of small paths on the gear teeth that I can join manually, but there must be a better way. A Select All > Path  > Join does not work. The only thing that does seems to work is manually selecting the endpoints in each gear tooth and joining the paths this way. Do-able, but very slow as I have many gears to work on.Is there a trick I am missing or a better way to do this? I am relatively new to Ai.Attached is an example where I manually joined all the paths to obtain the hi-lighted path eight teeth in length. I have confirmed my CNC will read this joined path just fine.All the rest of the gear is made up of hundreds of smaller paths, all non-joined. There is no option of asking the DXF file author to save the file differently.All suggestions wel

Hi gusy I vae a 12 page pdf in that pdf I need to adjust tge artboards size on all and adjust the text boxes sizes on all to look the same all together. The text has shadows and effects on them I wa t the spacing in all to be the same. Who do I do this 

When adding gaussian blur to a shape it creates a large white square behind shape. It cannot be selected and only disappears when the blur is removed from shape. This is the latest version of illustrator and it appears the same in the previous version.

Pretty much what it says in the title. There is a reliable 4-5 second lag whenever I try to zoom in and out of the canvas no matter what I use to zoom (scroll wheel, zoom tool, ctrl+). This happens even on completely blank files.I’ve tried both CPU & GPU performance, toggling them both on and off, disabling animated zoom, updating my NVIDIA studio driver, restarting my computer. I also tried to switch to GPU view, but that option is disabled for me.The only thing that works is zooming in in Outline mode but… surely that can’t be the only solution. Can’t exactly use Outline mode forever.This is significantly slowing my work down, and I can’t find any answers 😭OS info Thank you for any suggestions!!

I’ve recently been having difficulty with my Adobe Illustrator files where the artwork layer shifts off the artboard after saving as a .AI file, but everything else remains static. It looks perfectly normal in Adobe, but when exporting it and viewing it in Google Drive, it’s shifted. See attached images of the artboard in Illustrator versus the one in Google Drive.  Thanks so much for any advice or help. I’ve already tried uninstalling and re-installing Adobe.

When I try open Illustrator version 26.0.1 or version 25.4.1, I can't see anything. according to windows task manger the program is running but nothing is showing up on my screen or taskbar. I have try uninstalling Illustrator but it is still not opening.

I don't know what is going on. I've created many transparent PNG's using Illustrator, but today nearly every attempt has resulted in the final image having a solid black background instead of transparent. I export selection, check the cog and transparency is turned on. Out of curiosity I repeated the process but selected White in the cog and it still saved a black background. I've created new projectd, made the most basic shape, and after exporting, the same thing happens. I checked to see if there was any updates. There was a minor one. I updated, and when I tried to export after the update the background was finally transparent. HOWEVER!!!! I had to update a logo, opened Illustrator up again and did my thing and when I exported the PNG the same thing happened. I'm back to seeing a black background. Thinking, have I doubled up Illustrator?? So I close Illustrator and open it from the Creative Cloud app. Nope that's not it. Help....

Hello everyone,I need to create this kind of notation in the Steinberg Dorico music notation software:I have already worked on similar things in Dorico in the past so I proceeded like this:imported this single page from the PDF of the manuscript into Illustrator; locked the image into a separate “template” layer with 50% opacity and created a new layer above that to freely draw above it. added the notehead glyph from the publisher’s custom font. Created outlines from this glyph to prevent text editing. drew the line using the Curvature tool (Pen tool works just as well). Grouped the notehead and the line together and exported the result as an SVG. I’ve done this hundreds of times in the past successfully so I felt pretty confident to begin with.From within Dorico, I created a new Playing Technique with this SVG as a Graphic. I’m using the latest version of Adobe Illustrator and I'm encountering a strange issue:When I click the "eye" icon to hide a layer in the Layers panel, the layer stays visible on the artboard (even though it’s marked as hidden). The layer is not locked, and the visibility toggle does change in the panel, but the artwork doesn't disappear from the canvas immediately.I noticed that if I slightly move the object (nudge it), the hidden layer finally disappears from the artboard. It seems like Illustrator doesn't refresh the canvas properly after hiding the layer.Has anyone experienced this issue? Is there a setting or workaround to fix this without having to manually refresh the artboard?What I’ve tried:- The layer is definitely not locked.- Toggling visibility on and off does not force the redraw. The issue resolves temporarily if I move or zoom the artboard.- Any suggestions would be appreciated 

Hello,I need some help trouble shooting a script. I am trying to flip the justification for all of a selected set of text frames. However, while most types of flipping work properly, the following does notif(sel.story.textRange.justification == Justification.RIGHT){         sel.story.textRange.justification = Justification.LEFT;}I would expect the justification for items that are Justification.RIGHT to switch to Justification.LEFT, but they remain as Justification.RIGHTIt does not fail, it just does not work as expected.What is odd is that it seems to work correctly for the three other types of justification I am flipping in the same script. When I create a new document or open a document I already have, I can't interact with anything in Illustrator at all. Not the tools, the items on the page, nothing. When I am in the home menu, Illustrator works and I can do things like select create new doc or go into the preferences. I just can't do anything when a new or previous doc opens. Photoshop, InDesign, and Premiere Pro have been working fine and Illustrator was fine not a week ago. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Illustrator. I tried new and old versions of it. I checked for updates and there were none. I restarted my PC. I don't know what to do. I'm stressed because I have important files in Illustrator for my job. I'm stumped on what to try next. Thanks in advance.

Hi all, I’m hoping there are some whizzes on here that can provide a smarter way to achieve the outcome I am looking for. I am developing sock designs, and as such, any design that overflows over the left of the rectangular shape needs to connect with the right edge design - to ensure it is a seamless and continuous image. I am trying to do this for a text fill, where the text may change for future designs (i.e. different word and number of letters). Currently the process I use is to use the type tool line by line, creating the outline and then ensuring the left overflow letter is centred over the edge at a similar position to the right edge - to ensure it matches up when applied to the 360 sock design. Then I apply a clipping mask. I have previously just created a grid with a text fill per block - the issue is when the word changes, so I would need to create a template for each variation of different word lengths. Any help or smart suggestions on how to automate or improve this proces

After I updated illustrator, when clicking “save as” there’s no longer a pop up asking if I want to save to creative cloud or onto my computer. It now only saves to my computer files. How can I fix this ??

I saw this post a few weeks ago but now that the community page has updated it’s MIA. When copying and pasting a gradient mesh in Illustrator, the mesh is rasterized. I tried exporting as an SVG, EPS, and Ai file and placing those in the document, but those get rasterized too. There is currently no way to transfer a gradient mesh from one document to another.

Hi everyone!Could someone please tell me what this is and how I can turn off this annoying red square? I guess it's some kind of AI tool or AI tip that's ruining my scrolling and navigation in my Illustrator file.

Tilde key to move a pattern within shape not workinghen using a Mac, the tilde key works properly for moving or scaling patterns, whether in Chinese or English input mode.However, when I use Windows, the tilde key doesn’t work as expected. I’ve tried switching the keyboard from Chinese to US English, but it still doesn’t function.That said, holding down the tilde key to create trailing patterns works without any issues.
