Hi,I have a 300 page doc with hundreds of pictures. When I try exporting to PDF, i encounter 2 issues:1. "This doc contains links to files that are not accessible" error message. However, i relinked all images. Images in orange means it's good to go yes ? 2. "Failed to Export the PDF file.Possible cause of failure is present on spread with page number "22". Usually, when replacing the images by drag and dropping images from files to indd, it works and the next spread with error is a higher page number (eg.: next error is on page 23). Sometimes, it's a lower number (like 4). Wondering if anyone can help me with this... THanks

Greetings! I teach InDesign in a public high school. I am creating a collaborative assignment where one student creates a page in InDesign, their partner edits text in InCopy, and then the text is placed on the InDesign page. We have no shared server due to security and privacy issues, so the file portability will be via Google Drive or emailing as an attachment. Here's my InCopy/InDesign question: Is there a way to make the Paragraph Styles created in InCopy work properly in InDesign? When the formatted InCopy text is placed the styles created in InCopy show up in the InDesign Paragraph Styles panel, but when clicked they do not change the text.Thanx,Jay
Hi all, don't know if this is a known issue or not:I'm am setting up numbered lists and want to save them as a paragraph style. The weird thin: As soon as I save the style, all numbers in the list switch to 1. Even if I just use the default settings from InDesign and then just try to save these as a style. What am I missing here?
How do I OPEN the master page to change the date on an ongoing newsletter?
I can't get the cursor to load on placed text. I'm placing a docx file, and I've done this a hundred times with no problem. What could possibly keep the cursor from loading?ID CC, Windows 10.

I recent designed a magazine for a school, which included a one-page advertisement that was provided to my by the client. When I export the entire magazine file to PDF/X-1a:2001, two lines of text disappear from the ad. But when I export the entire magazine to the Adobe PDF present High Quality Print, the error doesn't happen. Looking for insight as to why this is happening. I have always used PDF/X-1a:2001 for file to be professionally printed, and never had a problem. Thanks.
Doesn't matter how often I go to my Prefs and specify English (Canadian) for Dictionary and AutoCorrect, the next time I launch it, it's reverted back to US. Any idea why this migh be happening? I'm wondering if it has something to do with some setting that our IT Overlords Dept. have somewhere (as they deploy and administer all software). Would anyone even know where I would tell them to look, in order to change it? Thanks in advance.
We are using InDesign 2025. When we are creating pages for our publication, InDesign will frequently shut down. Once it happens if we don't restart the computer the crashes will become more frequent. We are working on a smb local server that stores our files, we connect to it to work on files and save out work. We have 4 in office computers connected and one off-site computer connected via VPN. Please let me know if a fix has been issued. This has been happening for the last 3 versions of InDesign, every update has done nothing to resolve this issue. Getting very frustrating.
Hi people, Until today and on all platforms, the low-level ExtendScript method Folder.prototype.create() was able to create a full path of non-existent subfolders within some root folder. For example, with the code var myFolder = new Folder( Folder.myDocuments + '/dir1/dir2/dir3' ); myFolder.create(); you were obtaining the creation of all required subfolders (dir1, dir2, dir3) in case of non-existence. This behavior was consistent across all versions of ExtendScript that we knew of, and on all systems. As of InDesign 20.1 (not 20.0.x), and specifically on macOS, the above code will not always produce the desired result. In fact, only the dir1 folder will be created (if it does not exist), or only dir2 (if dir1 exists but not dir2), and so on. In other words, myFolder.create() only creates the highest missing folder in the hierarchy—so it will only work correctly if all parent folders were already existing. A particu
InDesign 2021, Big Sur 11.4, Font Explorer Pro 7.2.6I have a text box that contains a single character (the letter "a"). When I try to change the character, delete it, or delete the text box that contains it, InDesign flat out crashes, disappears. I can reopen the document to it's last saved state with no problems and re-save and continue working. It's a 60-page magazine so re-doing it in a new document is not an option. I can live with the text box stayting there forever but it's bugging me.There used to be a paragraph in there but I narrowed the problem down to this one character.Any advice?
When I open a document with ID (20.2) with a placed PNG that was created with an earlier version of ID, only a pixelated preview is displayed. The only workaround I have found is to relink the PNG file.Does anyone know this behaviour of ID 20.2? <Title renmaed by MOD>
Why does InDesign insist on saving change to book files when I've done nothing to the book file itself? This behavior has been going on ever since I can remember, and still happens in 15.0, the very latest version. I open a book file, then I double-click a document file inside the book panel. I work on the document file, save my work, and then close the document file. I've done nothing to the book file itself, yet if I try to quit InDesign, it always presents a dialog box asking if I want to save changes to the book file. Huh? I didn't change the book file, so why does InDesign ask me to save "changes?" To make matters worse, if I click Save, it doesn't just save the file. Nope. InDesign then presents a Save As dialog box, defaulting to the same book file name and location. So then I click Save again. But of couse, that's not going to work, because the file by that name already exists in that location, so I must click Replace.&n
I've made a product mockup psd with different labels as layers in a psd. Then using Object Layer options in InDesign to turn on the right layer for the product. When I add a new label/layer to the psd all the placed items in InDesign lose their layer options and are blank. Is there a way to add additional layers and for Indesign to remember the layers for items already placed? ThanksWayne
How do I get rid of the utterly useless font filter panel that has popped up on my screen, obscuring all the panels I need to use? It will not let me close or move it and serves no purpose whatsoever. The only way I have found to get rid of it is to close InDesign but then it randomly decides to return.
Hello everyone,I am developing a UXP plugin for InDesign (version 20.1.0) and I am trying to retrieve the master spreads of the currently open document. However, I am encountering an issue where app.documents is undefined in my UXP environment, even though a document is open.My Code: import { app } from "indesign"; const getParentPageObjects = async () => { try { console.log("🚀 Starting getParentPageObjects..."); if (!app.documents || app.documents.length === 0) { throw new Error("❌ No InDesign document open!"); } const document = app.activeDocument; console.log("📄 Active document:", document.name); const masterSpreads = document.masterSpreads.everyItem().getElements(); console.log(`📄 Number of master spreads: ${masterSpreads.length}`); let masterPageNames = masterSpreads.map(spread => spread.name || "Unnamed"); console.log("📜 Found master sprea
I'm using InDesign 2025, super new to this program in general so I'm sure this is user error but I can't find the answer to my question ANYWHERE. I have a set of pages I'm trying to print out at 6 in x 9 in, I've included crop marks so I know where to cut because naturally it has to be printed on 8.5 x 11 papers. I'm exporting them as "print" pdfs specifically, not interactive pdfs. For SOME reason, when I print them out, they are the wrong size even after accounting for the crop marks (around 6.75 in x 10 in???). As far as I can tell, something about my export settings is allowing the information to be re-scaled or something like that. Please, if anyone can help with this, it's been really frustrating trying to navigate this program.
When I sent a link from Pulish Online Dashboard, I miss the function of download PDF for the customer. Why is that not possible?Br.Carsten Bøwig
Hi everyone,I've tried setting the value for epubAccessibilityConformsTo to "EPUB Accessibility 1.1 - WCAG 2.1 Level AA", but I can't seem to get it quite right: function setEPUBAccessibilityPreferences(){ with(app.activeDocument.epubExportPreferences){ epubAccessibilityConformsTo = "EPUB Accessibility 1.1 - WCAG 2.1 Level AA" epubAccessibilityCertifiedBy = "Certifier" epubAccessibilityCredentials = "Credentials" epubAccessibilityReportLink = "www.report.link" } }; Is there any official documentation for which (string) values are allowed for epubAccessibilityConformsTo?I've only been able to find the unofficial InDesign ExtendScript API Adobe InDesign 2025 (20.0.0.95) Object Model - EPubExportPreference reference which does not give information beyond stating that epubAccessibilityConformsTo takes a string value. When I try function setEPUBAccessibilityPreferences(){ with(app.activeDocument.epubExportPrefe
Hi all, I'm planning to post a bug report on uservoice, but I was hoping I could get a few people to test my demo document and see if they see the same bug. To test: 1. open my attached .indd 2. place your insertion point cursor in the paragraph colored magenta. 3. type a character (what happens? for me the spanning breaks dramatically—see graphic below) 4. type another character (what happens? for me it goes back to normal 5. keep typing (for me it jumps back and forth) I have noticed that if I change the magenta paragraph from using Adobe Paragraph Composer to Adobe Single-line Composer, the problem goes away. But it took me a while to troubleshoot it, so it would be nice to fix it. Anyway, if you have time, please let me know your results, and which version of Indesign and OS you are running. I will link to this post in the bug report so Adobe can read your results too. Thanks. - Mark
Hi,I'm using InDesign CC on a Windows 10 PC, and using Excel 2016 to generate data for a Data Merge operation in InDesign. In amongst the myriad options for saving the data, Excel provides me with these options for saving files into a CSV format:CSV UTF-8 (Comma delimited) (*.csv)CSV (Comma delimited) (*.csv)CSV (Macintosh) (*.csv)CSV (MS-DOS) (*.csv)Depending on which of those options I use I am finding either the data becomes altered by the CSV format, or InDesign rejects the format.I have some cells which have 'special' characters such as the degrees sign '°', or a plus/minus sign '±' (e.g. the cell might have 36° or ±15° or ¼). There are many such symbols I use, and whilst sometimes I add these via the Character Map function in System Accessories, but most usually via the keyboard (for instance, a key combination such as 'Alt+0188' creates a ¼ symbol on a PC).The CSV UTF-8 file retains this 'special' character data, but InDesign rejects the file and tells me "The data source file yo
I'm working on a modest 38-page book in InDesign. I've exported a "v1" PDF and all is fine. I've then made updates and changes to the source InDesign file per my client and when I export my updated PDF (v2), it generates / displays the old PDF (v1) even thought the new file name has a v2 in it. The only way I can get it to work properly is to safe the file with an entirely new name and export that. I've restarted the app, restarted the computer and the problem still exists. InDesign version 20.1 on a Mac running Sonoma 14.6.1. 32GB RAM.
I found the shortcut for storing all documents in a book (set under View Navigation):Ctrl+Shift+Alt+S(This may not be very scientific, as it is possible to save the documents that outside the book)But did not find a command to open or close all documents in the book at once.pper right corner, right click doesn't have this function at all.
Hi All, I'm by no means a scripting genius, this has been entirely created using chat gpt. I know it is possible because I have had it in a workplace previously, but did not steal any intellectual property (i didnt create that one) but would love this to work for efficiencies in my workflow. Script is below. What I need it to do is 1. Create a box, with 'paper' fill2. insert text variable being file name (it needs to auto update if i change the file name then reopen) 3. put the box 3mm above the top left corner of the page 4. put the box on a separate, topmost layer called "FileName" I have had brilliant people help me before, so hoping to be equally lucky this time! Thank you in advance! #target indesign// Ensure a document is openif (app.documents.length > 0) {var doc = app.activeDocument;// Check if the "FileName" layer exists, or create itvar layerName = "FileName";var newLayer;// Try to find the existing layertry
