Recently I encountered a problem when updating TOC:I get the message "Do you want the table of contents to include items in overset text?" and the thing is I do not see anything as overset text - anyway, when I click 'yes', then I get all headings in TOC and even too much (too many headings)... (EXAMPLE: the last 'main' heading is "9", but then I get all headings starting with "5.2" repeated again in TOC).If I choose "no" ("Do you want table...?") - then, TOC looks fine; however, the problem exists and I would like to find the root cause.I would be grateful for any ideas... maybe someone had a similar problem?

Hello I am making a book cover.  I have the stroke set to 0 for the front cover and spine, but they have a thin gray border when I export to Acrobat.   They don't appear in InDesign.   I do not want any border on the final product -- only the color black.Attached is the .indd file and a screenshot of the gray border in the exported PDF.Any suggestions?Thank you.Adam

I am pasting Bengali from an excel file into InDesign CC 2018. I have Adobe World-Ready Paragraph Composer turned on. I’ve tried numerous fonts, including the Adobe Bengali font. Here are a few examples. The words in the red box are as they should be, the yellow highlighted words are how they appear in InDesign.After doing some research, I’ve learned there are a lot of different rules dictating how certain characters should be combined. I’m wondering if some of these rules were left out or misconstrued in Adobe World-Ready Composer. Or is this an issue with the glyph palette? I can copy the incorrect word from InDesign and paste it into Word or Excel and it looks correct. As soon as I paste it into InDesign, it changes. I have been working on a major book project for more than a year, hundreds of hours of work are involved. Upon opening my document recently I have discovered my text will no longer correctly hyphenate, regardless of whether hyphenation is correctly applied. No hyphenation happening whatsoever. On or off.A possible solution has been suggested in threads by people having the same issues: copying the text to another frame, applying the [Basic paragraph] style, copying back the text, then reapplying the correct styles. This means manually reworking projects to get hyphenation working again. Hyphenation is a basic function of InDesign. Stable typographic behaviour is a core function of this application. Hi everyone, I have a question regarding the script of visible and hidden items/groups in InDesign. I have achieved the goal for scenarios 1 and 2, however, I have an issue and question for scenario 3: When a group is visible, and all items inside the group are visible, my expected result is group and all visible items will appear in the article panel.When a group is hidden, my expected result is group and all items inside the group will not appear in the article panel. When a group is visible, and one of the items inside the group is hidden, is it possible to extract the group and the visible items in the article panel? I have tried manually without running the script, the group appears in the article panel if all the items are visible. Is that how InDesign treats a <group>? When I tried to remove items inside the group, I needed to ungroup first then the <group> would be out from the article panel, and all the visible items would be individual appearances.

I am copying a spread from one file to another. Both pages are set to the same size with the same margins, but when I copy and paste across the layout is coming in too large for the page. If i resize, I will need to adjust the font size as well. I have closed and reopened and tried again with the same result. Pictures below. Help!!

Hi all.I have a brochure with hundreds of price labels, which are tables. Sadly at no point has a cell/table style been created for these, although all rows are paragraph styles.I've been asked to decrease the heights of these tables overall which is easy enough using leading/space before within the styles, but when the cells shrink, the table reduces height of course at the top and bottom, whereas I want it to stay bottom aligned. I've got that selected, but it still moves up as it's taking space from top and bottom. As I say I have the frame bottom aligned, and also the cells are bottom selected. Also - I haven't been able to find a way of altering the insets of every cell at once - just individually. Is that possible? I know, they should really be table/cell styles but they've not been initially set up that way.  Before - after - desired outcome:      

I currently have a document which uses an automatic table of contents, it recognises text styles on pages. The document is often re-used and is adjusted for certain tasks, for example some pages are hidden if they are not needed (but not deleted in-case we need them), and obviously we wouldn't want these pages included in the contents list.However the table of contents still seems to be picking up these hidden pages, filling up the contents with pages which aren't in the actually document. There is already an option for 'hidden layers'. Could anyone help? 

HiI'm working on an indesign file for few days, and everything worked fine, until suddenly I was't able to select multiple objects by dragging the selection tool (the black cursor).Moreover, when I wish to select text inside a textbox, it does select it, but doesn't marks the selection.This happens only in that specific file. All files are working just fine. I tried to duplicate it, nothing.Tried to clear any prefencers, updated to the latest version, but nothing will help. Can anyone advise?Thanks

 InDesign 2021 (and 2020), MacOS Catalina.A text with footnotes where the footnote numbering have somehow become corrupted. If I delete any part of the text that contains a footnote number (or a text box with one or a page containing a text box with one, or any part of the text, boxes or pages containing the footnotes themselves) InDesign crashes. I tried updating from InDesign 2021 ver. 16.1 to 16.2.1.I tried saving it as an IDML file and opening it both in InDesign 2020 and 2021.It crashes every time. I can change the text, make it invisible for instance by making it white, or make it any size I want, move it off the pasteboard and so on and so on. But I cannot delete it. Or I can delete it, but then InDesign crashes and when I open the file again, text is still there. (I can delete other text boxes or text or anything else anywhere else in the document fine.) For two other similar reports I can find on here, the save as IDML has been the solution. But in my case

I just updated to InDesign 2021 and all of my menu dropdown shortcuts are grayed out (see the screenshot of the View tab below). This is preventing me from using any keyboard shortcuts.  Any suggestions? Help? I made sure I was logged into Creative Cloud and it is up and running fine. 

Hi,I am working on a catalogue and copy paste drawings from a previous edition I wasn't in charge of.When I export the PDF, I have this message "this font could not be embedded because it is missing".The font I was trying to use is Courrier. I solved it by installing the font family. Great news!Or so I thought because now, on the exported pdf, I have this message: Should I just at the end of my work, find/replace all the "courrier font" or can I solve it now?Thanks.

Hi, I have some troubles with the [none] Object Style in InDesign.When importing an image / pdf inside a picture frame, even if the picture frame has the style [none] and so wouldn't have any fitting options pushed, the image is centered inside the frame.So after importing the image / pdf and when manually placed correctly (not centered), the style is getting a "+" after the name -> [none]+.When using ALT+Click on the style when frame is selected, it reset the placement of the image / pdf to "center" inside the frame, and that's something problematic when using scripts to place adverts on a layout, because bleed adverts are not placed centered, especially when you have adverts smaller than 1/1 page because 1 of the side will have the bleed hided. If centering again after that, the placement will be wrong. Any idea if and where to change this?I already looked everywhere in the prefs, but couldn't find anything to adapt the [none] style. Hi Is there a way to a launch a script to automatic change all the paragraph styles in a file from one font family to another. I'd like to: open a indesign file, open scripts, click a script, choose a font family i want to change to (or have one assigned), then done? I dont want to change the font (i.e. bold, regualr, semi, etc), i only want the family to change. I can do this manually style by style but its a long process. I found this is the default change when i try to use the find and replace formatting option in indesign. For example i have english files in one font (Inter) and we have translations made for me but they require to to be in (Noto Sans SC) for Chinese. Thanks

Hi, I am working on my first book layout. Based on some research, I need to set up hyphenation and justification so that my body text feels balanced.Is there a recommended starting point for setting up justification or a standard that works well ?When applying justification, should I do it across my entire body text or create a new style and apply it only to areas that need improvement?Are there any suggested settings for hyphenation that are standard?4. Hey All! I have a large document I am flowing into Indesign from Word. There are no paragrpah breaks. My question is, is there a way in Word or Indesign to automatically add in paragraphs through out the wording/document?

Hi All, hope you can helpWe have recently signed up to Creative Cloud and are now working on a large graphic project with a new catalog. When we try and export the indesign file to pdf we run into two problems. First problem is that we are not able to choose certain pages, where we normally write the pages wanted we get this value already set 'A4 L' and we cannot change this value to the pages we want.Another problem is the following warning:'The preset specifies source profiles that do not match the current color settings file. The profiles defined by the color settings file are used instead.' any idea how we can solve the above, thank you so much in advance
