I have tried numerous times to create a Table of Contents. I have defined Paragraph Styles, and selected these to populate the TOC but the only thing appearing is the title. I have made sure that there are no overrides in these styles but to no avail. Please help as I have now spent hours on this trying to figure out how to get it to work. Thank you!
I would like to propose adding table geometry search capabilities to the Find/Change panel - specifically for row heights and column widths. There's no native way to find all table rows/columns with a specific dimension (ex: 40mm width) across an entire document and resize them uniformly. This requires either manual selection (impractical for dozens of tables) or custom scripting, which fails on complex documents and isn't user-friendly for designers.Requested Feature:Extend Find/Change with a Table tab including e.g. [Find Row Width: 40 mm] → [Change to: 43 mm]Use Case:I have 500+ tables where all 40mm rows need to become 43mm. Manual work takes hours; scripts fail on my InDesign 2026 document structure. This would be a game-changer for table-heavy documents (catalogs, price lists, schedules).Could Adobe prioritize this? Or is there a hidden feature/beta I'm missing?
This is what I see in AII have a font - Barlow (and Barlow Condensed) installed according to CC. I noticed that both INDD and AI recognize the font, but either do not display the entire font family or if it recognizes it, does not allow it to be used. In INDD specifically, I cannot use it to correct a style, but I can select it from the ribbon at the top and then “reset” the style. Similarly in AI, i see the font, but then when selected for my text, turns it blank.I have installed and uninstalled several times, reset computer etc. It’s like it’s default to a font that doesn’t work even though the font is obviously there. Above is what is see in Illustrator. Below is the style and the ribbon discrepancy.
Error updating the artificat.Seems like this problem has been persisting for years at this point, most noticabley for me (aka all the time) withing 8 months or so.Yes i’m aware that sometimes even though it says the error it still actually does. Well thats never been the case. It never updates. I have to make a new link each time. I’ve begun exploring alterantive methods for comment processes since this dont seem like the root of this problem will be resorved. We pay for this product and yet some things that have been broken for along time have no been fixed. Its 2026 whats going on?
Hi,I am testing the Google font "Noto Color Emoji" with InDesign 2020 (version 17.4.1) and having some troubles:My whole document became so slow, or even froze ever since I inserted a glyph in this font.Viewing the Glyph panel is also a matter of minutes ...Has someone stumbled upon this issue? The non-color-version (Noto Emoji) works really smooth.Does InDesign not really support svg-fonts yet?
Changing display text for hyperlink is removing / deleting the hyperlink.Manually typed in footnotes. I highlighted the text “10” > right clicked > New Hyperlink > Put in URL (for this example dribbble.com). Went back into the doc realized “10” needed to be “20” highlighted my hyperlink and typed in “20” > Hyperlink is suddenly gone. And it’s happening with every hyperlink I’ve changed the display text on. I’ve never had this issue before. I’ve also done full resets of everything and I am running the latest update. Screenshots in order of process. help.

In the last few days InDesign has started crashing on close. This happens whehter or not there is a document open when I close. It does not seem to happen if I open InDesign and then close it without opening a document. It does not seem to corrupt documents on crash, but for obvious reasons I’m nervous about that, especially after the recent cloud-drive fiasco. I’m using Win11 and version 21.2 of Indesign. (I am not positive about the versoin, becuase the version number in the About dialog appears to be set in 4 point font.)Suggestions?
Hi everyone,I am a professional graphic designer working on a Late 2014 iMac (macOS Big Sur 11.7.11). Due to hardware limitations, I cannot upgrade my macOS further at the moment. My Creative Cloud Desktop app does not show "Older Versions" for InDesign anymore. I specifically need the official offline installer for InDesign 2021 (v16.x) or InDesign 2022 (v17.x), as these are the last versions known to work stably on Big Sur.Can anyone provide the direct Adobe server links for these specific versions? I have a valid Creative Cloud subscription; I just need the installer file to bypass the CC app restriction. Thank you.
I have been having a really big problem with my installation across multiple projects. After working on a file and saving, I get an error that the file can’t be saved because of a database error. The program becomes unresponsive until it quits automatically or I terminate the process. In the best case, I am able to open the recovery file and save-as. So I am now working on projects with “Version 15” etc appended to the name, to give an idea of the frequency of this issue. Does anybody have any suggestions? Thanks.
I was unaware that InDesign AI was now creating alt text, and even more surprised that the AI thinks this brown background image has a nude figure in it. Is AI good for anything?
Hi Adobe Community and Team,I am transitioning from CorelDRAW and Illustrator to InDesign for my publication projects. While I understand that InDesign is frame-based, I find it very cumbersome that we cannot simply click and type without manually creating a text frame first. In Illustrator, we have 'Point Type' where a single click allows us to start typing immediately. This would be a huge time-saver for small labels, page headers, or quick annotations in InDesign as well.Is there any plan to introduce a 'Point Type' behavior or a shortcut to create a text frame with a single click in the future updates? Thanks!
I’m following up on an email I sent about a week ago regarding ongoing InDesign crashes.I’m having difficulty accessing the existing support threads you referenced previously. When I click any of the links in your emails, I’m redirected to a generic home page rather than the relevant discussion, which makes it impossible to review or continue the troubleshooting steps.Unfortunately, the core issue remains unresolved. InDesign is still crashing while editing text, even when using the latest pre-release versions. At this point the problem has caused me to miss a publishing deadline, which is extremely frustrating and has had a real impact on my work.I need this issue properly addressed as a matter of urgency. Could you please:Provide direct, working links to the relevant support threads, orEscalate this case so we can move toward a definitive fix rather than further testing cyclesI’m happy to provide logs, files, or any additional information required, but I do need a clear path forward.
I’m using an .indb to create a guidebook that is both text and photo heavy, with separate .indd docs for the chapters. Each new chapter will start with a double page photo spread – what’s the best practice method to do this? Do I have to place half the photo at the end of the previous document? Thanks
Hello Everyone,We are thrilled to introduce the new MathML feature in InDesign. Now, you can easily create, style, and edit math expressions with the new MathML panel. Seamlessly integrate complex equations into your documents, styled to match your text. Perfect for scientific and academic content! Insert a math expression Create or open any InDesign document and select Object > Insert MathML. Add the MathML code in the MathML Input section. Select the Preview Expression icon to see the expression in the Expression Preview section. Select Place. Your math expression is placed as an SVG file in your document. You can anchor it just like any other SVG. 5. Update the Font Size and Fill color (including document colors) in the Math Expressions panel to match the rest of your document. Edit a math expression1. Right-click the math expression and select2. Update the MathML code in the MathML Input section.3. Select the Preview Expression icon to see the updated e
I used the richpaste plugin (https://indiscripts.com/post/2015/10/richpaste-copy-and-paste-with-minimal-formatting) in InDesign to transfer text from Word to InDesign using the ctrl + c, ctrl + v commands. It helped me maintain formatting without complications when I selected a specific paragraph/character style. However, the plugin seems to have lost compatibility with the latest versions of InDesign. When I copy text from Word that is italicized and bold and paste it into InDesign using the Ctrl + X, Ctrl + V command, I select the paragraph style, but the font does not change. I need to either configure a character style or do it manually. With richpaste, I could just select the paragraph style and use the “paste with richpaste” option, and it would paste the paragraph formatting and character style all at once.I work with academic texts, so I need this process to be more agile, and richpaste helped a lot in that regard. I can't use the Ctrl + C and Ctrl + V commands with the option to
I have this same issue with every accessible document I export from InDesign and open in Adobe Acrobat. Under the Oder panel, everything is sectioned out correctly but under the Accessibility Tags, the sections are divided into individual lines (see the purple boxes). The only way I have found to fix this is to manually drag the containers together in the adobe Content panel. I have gone through every variation within the export settings and have combed through paragraph style settings (like turning off baseline gridding and optical margin alignment) to try and figure it out with no luck. I am working with a very simple test document with minimal formatting to try and solve it but am out of ideas.
I was busily importing and editing graphics on page 68 of a large document, when suddenly the pink margin guides around each page suddenly disappeared! I was using some keyboard commands and must have accidentally done something ... I have looked at various sections of the InDesign guidelines and have tried several things. Nothing brought them back (yet) & I've reversed each thing I tried in various dropdown menus. Can anyone help me restore those Margin Guides? I can't work without them. Thanks
There is a really boring problem with simple tasks like selecting text or using the Find/Change feature in large documents. For example, this task has already taken about 1.5 hours, and I don’t know how long it will take. As you can see, the task is very simple: just find/change text elements. The exact query is not important; it may be selecting a sentence, changing a word, or something similar. And every time it takes ages.It started with about InDesign version 2022, but was not so noticeable. And for now, it has grown to disrupt the entire workflow. What could be done? I can divide the document into smaller parts, but it’s unwanted for this project, and there aren’t any warnings in the documentation about the document’s length. The Text Editor does not help; it works as slowly as the layout mode. The system is good enough for comfortable work:Processor 13th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-1355U (1.70 GHz)Installed RAM 32,0 GB (31,7 GB usable)System type 64-bit operating system Windo
Hello all,We are an Architectural firm where we are working towards moving to cloud storage (away from traditional servers across network). We are primarily moving towards Autodesk Construction Cloud, however we recently found INDD files are not supported and recently seem to be having issues. It appears that the Adobe Cloud may be a great solution for storing, and working with InDesign files, as it appears this also allows for co-authoring, which would be terrific (assuming it works like Microsoft co-authoring).What I am unsure about and would like some clarification on is if/how InDesign linked assets can be stored and shared in the Adobe Cloud. I don’t see anything about this in the help documentation and after going through, it sounds like links need to be local or on a server.Any clarification on this is appreciated, thank you.
For the past year this program has become slow and unresponsive to the point of being completely unusable. Any command that I give the software is followed by a 5-15 second lag on average - this is not an exaggeration. This problem persists with existing documents, INDD and INDL, as well as with brand new documents saved to my desktop. For example: Create a new document. When the document loads, create text box and begin to type. 15 seconds later the letters appear in the box. Actions taken during the lag are ignored by the software. Other applications on my machine are also significantly impacted by this performance issue, even the mouse stutters and freezes. Trying to use other software while InD is "thinking" can often result in the other applications to show a (not responding) error. Because InD is so unresponsive, I need to use Task Manager to force close - even this process can take up to a minute to complete. I'm not certain, but I believe the problem with lag is
ID 20.3.1, macOS 14.8.2. When different users open the same document, with the same fonts installed, the line case changes. I suspect some underlying setting in the program, but what should I look for?
I designed a guidebook using facing pages. I am now designing an ebook version using single (not facing) pages. I cleared the Facing Pages check box in the Document Setup window and saved the file. The Pages panel shows only one page spreads, both for the parent pages and for the body pages. The body pages also appear only as one page spreads.I created a Back button and a Next button in the footer of the parent page. I added Go to previous page actions to the Back button (on release or tap and on click) and Go to next page actions to the Next button. I exported to an interactive PDF. When I click the Back button, it goes back two pages rather than one. When I click the Next button, it goes forward two pages rather than one. What am I doing wrong?I am using Adobe InDesign 21.2 x64
