hi, i'm struggling to add an audio to my epub. I followed all the tutorials on youtube but still it doesn't work, how can I export an epub with an audio.
I am making a program for a football team. Because the program year to year is similar I use the previous years program as a template. That works well with the one exception that their is one remaining missing link from the previous year. I tried to use the go to link option in the links panel but it doesn't go any ware. I tried to relink the old file so I could find it and then delete it but even though I could find the old link it still wont relink. It doesn't give an error it just doesn't do anything. Does any one know how to delete that link? I am using Indesign CC 2017 on a Mac.
when footnotes are split the line in the splitted column can't be formatted and is set by indesign "nirvana preferences"??it doesn't follow the set format for footnotes can't run the genious script by peter k. in this case because the document has a 600 something footnotes and should be changeable at the very last minute problem looks like this is there a "elegant" solution?or do I need to place a white frame to cover and set a textline whenever columns are split
I created a presentation deck with GIFs as well as animations created in InDesign. I need to send the file to a client, but the buttons aren't working and neither are the GIFS when I view the HTML file.
Hello again! I made a similar post a few days ago that helped me solve one problem, but unfortunately it created another, so I'm back. Quick background: I have modified a script created by Kasyan (found here) that finds tags and replaces them with images. The main changes I made now have the script create an anchored text frame where the tag is found, find and insert the image file inline in the new text frame, and then grab the "Description" from the xmp link and insert it as text after the image. The problem: The script runs beautifully so long as it is able to find the metadata it is looking for. I have tried to use try...catch() to look for the linkXmp.description, but I think I fundementally don't understand what to put in the "catch" area. I want it to just tell the script that the description is null so I can later use "else" to put a placeholder in the caption text frame.(This might not be the best way to handle this - the image files that are
Hi everyone!I'm working on a book of stories written by several authors. I'm speaking of a collection of 100–120 stories from as many authors. I used sections to separate each story and give each a title that appears on the right page of the book.I would like to add the author name (I didn't plan to do it, but for layout reasons now I have to). I would like to know if there's a way to have all sections as an editable list to work in a more agile way. Any advice? Thanks in advance!
This is trivial, but it bothers me ... If I click on an item, there is a gray dotted border around the selected item. See Selection 3 in the image attached. How can I eliminate this. I triedCkbx_Note3 = Panel01.add("checkbox", [10, 5, 300, 20], " Selection 3","borderless: true"); and it didn't work. Uploads don't seem to be working for me.
I upgraded to Windows 11 about four days ago.Since the upgraded my InDesign is very slushes opening. When I say sluggish, I mean slow.Once it is open and I open a document, that is also just as sluggish. If I close the document, it is also sluggish, even if I have not done any edits to it.When I closeout the InDesign program, even that takes a long time to close.I know this is not right.I cleared my upgrade caches and everything else once it was complete.I have made sure that my drivers and bios are all up to date.I have no issues with any other programs on my computer it only seems to be with InDesign.Has anyone else experiences this or have any suggestions on how to bring this back to normal speed?Rick
I use InDesign 2022. My Text wrap is set to 'none'.When I open a new text box it’s automatically applying a 1" a white space top and bottom that is the width of the text box. Also a 1/4" white space to each side of the box, that is the height of the text box. These 'white panels' (I hesitate to call them text wraps) blank out other text boxes and photos, but sometimes the text from the underlying text box shows through. Bringing the photo to the front can help where a photo is concerned. This is especially annoying when I need a smaller photo within the text and the text disappears to the side of the caption box. Photos text wrap just fine. Also if I have to put two text boxes together - one's 'white panels' invariably blanks out the other box's text.I have tried all sorts of on-line suggestions but none seemed to help, and after one I couldn't even drop a photo onto a page. Desperate, I used 'restore' on my computer to reset everything to June 27 (earliest date possible) and I can now
File is from a foreign publisher. How do I remove this grid from the Master page? I have not come across this before? Thank you for looking !
I just did a tutorial about making an Interactive InDesign pdf. It had text fields, check boxes and a submit button which would enable the answers of the form to be sent to an email address. The form did not work because for some reason, google got involved and the form was unable to be sent.Is there a way to make an interactive form using Publish Online? And not have to deal with an interactive PDF?Any advice would be very much appreciated.
How can I crate a GREP that will underline a part of an entry in a table of contents?I know how to bold certain words using a GREP but cannot figure out how to underline certai words!!Any ideas???
I then can't do anything in Indesign and get a "Cannot handle the request because a modal dialog or alert is active." message. I have lots of files that used Type 1 fonts and need to update to Opentype versions of the fonts. I have removed the old font files to make this easier to track but now whenever I open an indesign file with the old fonts, i do not get the missing fonts warning but the software acts as if the warning there. I have tried finding if the warning was hidden behind another window but it isn't. It popped up correctly once but has not appeared since. I usually have to Force Quit indesign once this happens and that doesn't actually fix anything. I have also restarted my machine and reinstalled Indesign 18.1. Files that I have already updated the fonts in open fine but as soon as I open a file with the old missing fonts it locks up. Mac OS Ventura 13.0.1
It's time to be upfront and relearn. I work with thousands of architectural images and have not exercised an efficient way of sizing and placing them, instead defaulting to very manual, and slow, steps. Original images are vintage, printed in different aspect ratios, often with borders to crop out. What would be an expert way to place and resize images instead of spending infinite time finely resizing and cropping? My labor-intensive approach is:1. ctrl+D, often resulting in a massive image running of the board,2. guessing a flat precentange to reduce it that still leaves it on the board,3. cropping out the border,4. then using the transform tool to get it close to a desired size,5. then working with further cropping and resizing to see what is aesthetically pleasing and matches, critically and precisely, all the alignments in the grid I designed.Preferring to be moving and doing, and hands on, wearing many hats and not acting as a dedicated ID layout artist, I neglected acquiring prope
Hi everyone, I have a lot more knowledge in traditional books when it comes to formatting! But I thought I'd reach out to the community to check I am doing everything correctly when it comes to children's picture books!I have tried endless amounts of research, but I find everyone who comments in these threads far more helpful.I am formatting a hardback and ebook for a children's book. Firstly, with ebooks, I am struggling to keep the same layout. So I am now exporting as a epub fixed layout, rather than reflowable. Reflowable was causing too many issues, because of all the images. Is fixed layout normal for children's books? Secondly, the page count is only 34 pages. So the margins I am using 0.5 outside, top and bottom, and inside 0.7. With the page count so small, the gutter/inside margin surely doesn't need to be too large, however, I wondered if this is different because it is a hardback? So basically, would these margins be correct for a children's book? Third
Hi, While running Adobe InDesign Debug 19.4 on Windows 10, InDesign is crashing with the following alerts I have tried steps to resolve InDesign crash issues at https://helpx.adobe.com/in/indesign/kb/crash-on-launch.html?linkId=100000252567181 and https://community.adobe.com/t5/indesign-discussions/advanced-troubleshooting-for-launch-issues/m-p/11394034#M200371 but no luck. The release version of InDesign simply crashes at startup. Please suggest how to recover from this error.
Hello, I have a problem with the export of my publish online and publish it online. When I try, a message with "error #13" appears. Do you know why ? Thank you.
Can somebody help me with this before I just self destruct or something.I am trying to make a compound path of a circular banner and fill it black, but I can make no sense of the pathfinder facilities and to be honest I never have. I find them illogical and unblievably complex. I have been hours on this theoretically easy task and I have got nowhere. The banner is one circle inside another, with both paths cut and some straight end pieces added. I have made the inner circle and corners into a compound path which you can see in green, and have tried every method I can to join the outer ring (in red) to the green path to make one compound path. it fills the entire shape black and leaves a corner triangle with a hole. What am I doing wrong? Why is it so hard? Thanks in advance.
Hi there everyone, I'm working in a news media, trying to automate most of our print processes.I have successfully created conditional text which is linked to an image. A 4 is linked to 4 hats, 3.5 to 3.5 hats etc... The numbers are inside a specific box, so I figured that we would just have to write 4 to get 4 hats. The images are anchored objects. You can see the video attached. Problem is: the show/hide option only works when clicking on the "eye" button. I would like to link my condition's showing to the fact InDesign detects the condition itself in a specific bloc. Is there a way of doing so? The idea would be:1/ I have a specific bloc with a number inside, being sent to the article on InDesign.2/ Based on the number, the condition would be shown and the rest masked. Thanks a lot for your help, I am trying to automate the cli
Hi everyone, I have formatted a book cover and interior for a client using InDesign, to upload onto KDP. The book itself is fine, but the cover keeps erroring saying 'insufficient gutter'. I have attached a screenshot of the error. The margins I have used on InDesign are,Front and back - 0.5 top, bottom and outside/ 0.625 insideSpine - 0.625 top and bottom / 0.0625 inside and outside The book is 347 pages, and 5.5 x 8.5. Spine size is 0.8675 width. Bleed - 0.125Gutter - 0.625 I have extended the background to the bleed. I have ensured elements are within the margins. I can't work out where I am going wrong, so I am seeking advice to see if anyone else knows? I am wondering whether it's because I should be using the page size 6x9 or if it's to do with the design itself. I used illustrator to create the design and the elements, so perhaps something went wrong there? But I didn't think transferring a design from illustrator to InDesign

Is there a function: forcibly clear the "priority option" before the application style.I set a footnote to use A font. Although the style was applied after importing, it still displayed "+", the font is still B font.
Anyone know how to fix this? The text is set to Arial regular but it looks like Arial Black. It's only in indesign as it works fine in illustrator.
Hi, For my work I have to edit a document in Indesign. In the document there is a table. My predecessor probably made it once. I want to extend the light grey lines. I can't figure out what kind of lines these are and how the layout is made exactly. I can't find where I can edit these. Any idea? Thank you in advance.Yours sincerely,Danny
I am working within cs5.5 and am trying to insert an excel chart into an InDesign file but cannot find a table insert option anywhere (not available as an option when I click on a new or existing text box) and not available in the main/top navigation items (shown below.)
