InDesign

It used to be that every time I updated InDesgn I would change the number in the applicationpreferences .plist from 256 to 257. That worked and I got all the character handling extras etc. Until this time. Changing the number resulted in no change and no Japanese handling. I really need it, so any advice would be urgently appreciated!(And no, I don't want the Japanese version, just the extra text handling options in the English-language version)

All of the InDesign work I do requires both English and Japanese in the same document. To access the Japanese text features, paragraph settings, and print options, I need to install the Japanese version of InDesign. However, I work much more efficiently using the English interface.In the past, I was able to install the Japanese version first, then uninstall it and reinstall the English version. This left the Japanese features and settings available while allowing me to use the English interface. Unfortunately, this workaround no longer seems to work with the current versions of InDesign.Is there a new method for achieving the same result?I'm currently using Windows, but I'll be switching to macOS next month. If there's a macOS solution, I'd be happy to hear about that as well.

I'm experiencing a reproducible issue with Adobe InDesign 21.4.1 on Windows 11.Environment:- Windows 11- Adobe InDesign 21.4.1- Single monitorIssue:If InDesign is closed while the Pages panel is the active panel, opening any .indd file by double-clicking it in Windows Explorer causes InDesign to freeze during startup.The loading cursor continues indefinitely and the document never opens.However, if I launch InDesign first and then use File > Open, the same document opens normally.What I tested:- The issue also occurs with a brand new test.indd file.- It is not related to a specific document.- Resetting InDesign preferences temporarily fixes the issue.- Other panels (Layers, Links, Transform, etc.) can be moved or docked without causing the problem.- If I close InDesign with the Properties panel active instead of the Pages panel, double-click opening works normally.- Simply displaying the Pages panel before closing InDesign causes the issue to return, even without saving the workspac

I have been trying to figure this out for several days now. I’m using 2025 InDesign on a Mac. I have one merge file with images that works just fine and I use it all the time. I’m trying to set up a separate merge file with a lot more images. I fixed several errors that were causing me to get the “missing image” error. Despite all that, I now get no errors but a merge file with text and blank boxes where the images should be. I have noticed one other difference between the merge file that works and the one that doesn’t: In the working one, my image frame has the correct column name <<logo>> inside the frame where the image should be, but the one not working does not display any text. Would be so grateful for a solution!And just to cover my bases, yes the column has an @ sign, and yes, I tried putting the spreadsheet in the same folder as the images and using the image file name, which got me the same result: No errors, but the frames are still blank after merge. Since updating to InDesign 21.5, exporting/saving a story as InCopy (ICML) can omit a table's column width dataEnvironment: InDesign 21.5, Windows.Is this a known/tracked bug, and is a fix scheduled? Is there a recommended workaround in the meantime?

I have a project to create a book, but the page numbers need to use Arabic-Indic numerals (١، ٢، ٣، ٤، ٥). I’ve looked for tutorials online, but I haven’t found anything that answers my question. :(

I want to find all instances of the glyph (with unicode value \x{f067}) which appears before and after glyphs that have a red character style.I want to apply a character style to it

The problem - the debugger starts but breakpoints aren’t being triggered.  More so - the debugger panel doesn’t launch when debugging starts.   After hours of searching - the problem was indesign was not launched with sufficient permissions to allow the bridge between it and VS Code.After confirming your launch.json and //@target and //@targetEngine are correct - make sure you launch both VS Code and the Adobe app, Indesign in this case, are run as administrator on the Windows side.

When having a file open in InDesign 2024 on my Macbook Pro (Sonoma 14.2.1 OS), close the lid, plug into my LG UltraFine external monitor and wake the computer up, the InDesign window is still open and all the tool bars are visible and working, but the area where the artwork is becomes black/blank and I can't see the work. I can see the bounding boxes if I select all, but no image or text. The window is entirely blank. The same thing happens if I'm working on my LG monitor, unplug the display and then open the Macbook to work. I always have my Macbook closed when plugged into the LG display and use both an external keyboard and trackpad. The solution is to always save, quit InDesign and reopen. If I go through that it works again. Is it a bug with Apple? Is it a bug with Adobe? My LG firmware, OS and Adobe InDesign are all updated to the latest versions.

After a very, VERY long list of new bugs that appear in the Adobe suite like copy and paste not working, constant crashing and instability, indesign is coming to a new low. Since the last 2 updates I can't even seem to close Indesign without using force close in the Windows task manager?! How can I get this program to close without having to resort to bashing it with the Windows banhammer every single time.Running the latest version of CC and indesign, no background tasks active and  everything works except every single native option to close the program!And with a 14th gen i7, 16GB CPU and 64GB DDR5 it's not a performance issue.Strangly when using the free Affinity tools there are none of the horrible and inexcusable bugs that a billion dollar company can't seem to fix.

I guess they are not recognizing the image, or the image is outside the layout, or there are locked or hidden images?Also, can we avoid grouping images and captions together? Recently i was working on project. Saved with no errors. Now I cannot open that file, however I can open other files with no problem. Why my file is not OK anymore?

InDesign is going mad. I have to force quit several times a day. On the pointer tool I select the zoom tool from a keyboard short cut. It will hold onto the zoom tool. I size a text box on a page and the pointer keeps the size co-ordinates and not go back to the pointer. Some times it wont let me do an undo (command z). Sometimes a random box from a menu (e.g. Layer options) I haven’t used, appears in the screen. When any of the above starts happening I know it’s time to force quit. It may be in my mind but does this have to do with upgrade to Tahoe. I have reset InDesign preferences. 2021 Macbook pro Tahoe 26.5.2 Indesign 2026 21.5. - HELP.

I have three things that annoy me on a daily basis.1. There are constant white flashes - I have tried changing GRU performance.2. The blue circle that runs at the top and shows the document is saving keeps on running (see attached illustration).3. When I have to import an image into an InDesign document I can no longer switch between alphabetical order and last modified. Can anyone help with some of these problems?  

I have an indesign document with a ton of different images, 1 on each page of the doc. I’ve updated a few of these links today and the newly linked updated images have this icon on the bottom left corner which I’ve never seen before. Any idea what this is or what it means? These are not text boxes, there are no primary text frames in this document and no threaded text.It is definitely attached to the linked image and nothing else, as it moves around with the image when I move the image.   

I would like to understand why the new Generative AI options for inDesign that cost credits, were on by default?Briefly, I have ended up with an annual medical report full of hundreds of unwanted, incorrect alt texts that I have had to remove.To add insult to injury, these unrequested alt texts cost credits! There is no simple way to strip these out (tip: please add this feature) I have had to resort to a python script to clean this document This could have been avoided if my inDesign update had offered me this feature via an opt-in dialog.

Hi, In Screenshot 1, there is an EPUB. Looking at two images, space(1) and alignment(2) are different from what I expect.Space is larger. Ich habe dieses Problem hier schon einmal gepostet, finde es aber leider nicht mehr. Wenn ich einem Objekt einen Schlagschatten zuordne und dieses Objekt danach auf meiner Seite verschiebe, verschiebt sich auch der Schlagschatten völlig willkürlich. Passiert auch mit Objekten, die bereits einen Schlagschatten haben. Der Fehler lässt sich in jedem ID Dokument reproduzieren und scheint ein Darstellungsproblem zu sein. Sobald ich das Dokument schließe und danach wieder öffne ist alles in Ordnung. CPU Vorschau ein bzw. ausschalten bringt keine Verbesserung. Ich vermute einen Bug im Programm. The new feature auto generates pornographic alt text in pictures it cannot seem to identify. It does seems to work ok on real photos but all complex icons have nude people and body parts described. It seems to me instead of giving a warning that it can’t identify a content it correlaties it to pornographic content. I don’t know if there was no introduction/pop-up to this new feature or if I simply missed it, but auto generating nsfw text is not okay. Why is there no filter that stops it from doing so?

One of my coworkers set up an Indesign table for the area circled in red. I am unfamiliar with Indesign’s table feature, and I need to delete the row highlighted in black. Would someone explain how to do this function? Also, how would I add a row if needed? Thanks!
