A realistic shadow helps your subject feel grounded in the scene. In Photoshop, there are several ways to create one, depending on your subject and lighting. Based on workflows shared by experts in the Photoshop community, we've brought together a few of the most effective techniques here. Choose the method that best fits your workflow. Method 1: Using Generative AIAI can speed up the setup, but you will still get the best results by refining the shadow yourself.Use Select Subject or Remove Background to quickly isolate your object. Use Generative Fill to extend the surface where the shadow will fall. Learn more. You can also use Harmonize. It analyzes the lighting, color, and tone of the scene, and can also generate a matching shadow to help the subject feel more naturally integrated. Learn more. Refine the generated shadow manually using one of the methods above for the most realistic result. Method 2: Drop Shadow EffectThis is the quickest way to add depth and separation to elemen
Keeping your Layers panel organized just got a whole lot easier. Layer Cleanup in Photoshop 27.6 and above automatically deletes empty layers and renames layers based on their content, so you can focus on creating, not housekeeping. With a single action from the Layers panel, Photoshop scans your document and removes blank pixel or text layers that tend to pile up during exploration. At the same time, it can intelligently rename layers, giving them clear, descriptive names that reflect what’s inside, so you no longer have to guess what “Layer 37 copy 2” contains. You’re in control of how much cleanup happens. Run it across the entire document for a full reset, or apply it only to selected layers when you want to tidy up as you go. Here is a quick tutorial demonstrating this feature. Why this mattersFaster navigation in complex files Cleaner handoffs when sharing PSDs with teammates Less friction when revisiting older projects Better layer discipline without manual effortWhether you’r

Hello, my edits look rich in Photoshop, but the exported JPEG looks flat everywhere else. Reds go dull and skin tones look a bit grey. Opening the same file back in Photoshop looks fine, so it only shows up in other apps and on the web.Setup: Photoshop 2025, Windows 11, calibrated monitor.Already tried:Working space set to sRGB IEC61966-2.1 Export As with "Convert to sRGB" ticked Save a Copy with ICC profile embeddedThe sRGB conversion helped a little, but the shift is still there and clients notice it.Is this a monitor profile problem on my end, or am I missing a step at export? Happy to share screenshots.Thanks.
I keep getting this error: "Catch in IPhotoshopApplication, exception encountered: Failed to create enviroment config: photoshop_exception" I do not know how to fix it ive tried to reinstall it as well as my video card driver and nothing seems to work for me. Any suggestions are welcome
Last week it began returning unexpected results when tasked with fixing a small area. I noticed two things:First: it can’t help but hallucinate. It will reliably return a snake, a bow and arrow, a jar of something or what not. Usually in situations were it used to reliably fill in a texture perfectly and out perform Firefly Fill & Expand.Second, it seems to have lost the ability to seamlessly retian texture over a small area. Often it comes back mangled or oversharpened if it doesn’t have an ice pick or a toaster thrown in.Anyone else seeing this? It seemed like a pretty sudden server side thing so please please please don’t ask me to post 10 pages of my system info efectively killing this thread.
Since the update to v. 27.9.1 my gradients are all different. I know you can access the legacy gradients (Adobe hides classic and older preset libraries by default. To get them back, open the standalone Gradients panel via Window > Gradients, click the panel's fly-out menu (the four horizontal lines icon) but only a few of the many legacy gradients load. Is there anyplace online where I can download the complete legacy gradients from the version just before this current update? Thanks for your help.
When trying to open Photoshop (any version) the splash screen opens as usual but when it goes away nothing happens, no background task or anthing, Photoshop completely crashes. The splash sceen always dissapears at the same mesage, roughly translated from german it says “calculating memory/storage”. I have been using the latest (V27) which seems to be more reliable but is a resource hog. I went looking around for things to stop to give Photoshop as much of the machine as possible because is taking FOREVER to do anything. I see 13 “Helper” aps for Creative Cloud running which near as I can tell only are there to make sure I paid my fees. I killed the 4 Acrobat helpers already.Question: how many of these background apps can I kill and still use photoshop? I am just retouching pictures. No cloud. No collaboration. And yes I paid my annual rental fee. The only fancy feature I am using is the “beta” photo restore filter.
Are there any suggestions/solutions for those of us who wish to disable or block AI tools like Firefly or the generative AI within Photoshop? I understand I don't actually have to use tools I do not wish to use within Adobe programs, but I think it would also be nice for some of us with strong ethical opposition to generative AI to have an option for it to not consistently pop up in our feeds or have our work training AI models without permission (hence why I disabled the content analysis option for my account). Due Screen users. I thought if an idea for Due Screen users , and the idea is that if you have two screens then it would be very good to able to add your tool of your choice on the other screen . Maybe a panel that could be undocked from Photoshop and then add the tool of choice to that panel and then to be able to move it to the other screen . This could be Brushes, Actions or anything in the tools sections .
Forced AI is generating a resurgence of open source tools. Adding an “Non-AI” or “AI Free” option to installations and apps would be highly advisable. Furthermore, a lot of individuals are already running with limited hardware and resources, and these AI features are burning up computer resources rendering simple tasks like cropping a jpeg almost impossible. For the longest time the only thing preventing me, as well as a lot of other users, from switching to a Linux OS has been the power of the Adobe tools. However, as Adobe keeps up with this forced usage and installation of AI they will start to lose more users to programs like Davinci and Darkroom.
When I load Photoshop, it locks up and does not respond to anything. it just freezes once it loads does not respond to keyboard or mouse, have to use Task Manager to close, I have all the newest updates the version is V27.91, I also have Photoshop Bata that works perfectly fine
Thanks to all who took part in our previous ‘Where there’s smoke’ challenge. There were some great images based on the Victorian pipe. This week, we go to Lindisfarne, also known as Holy Island. It is situated just off the Northumberland coast of England, and reachable by a causeway. This view of the castle, which was built in the 16th century, is from the rugged rocks of the beach. In its day, it must have been a formidable castle to breach. Of course, with the power of image manipulation, you can show us how it might be done. The “rules”:Use the starter image as at least part of your own image entry. Anything goes, as long as it meets the forum rules on decency, copyright, etc. Anyone, and everyone, is welcome to have a go, whether you are a complete beginner or a Photoshop expert. This is not just for our forum “regulars”. The challenge is not limited to Photoshop. Any Adobe software can be used. There are no prizes apart from the chance to practice, show off your skills, or bring a
Hello, I have been experiencing this issue for a while now and it's been really bothering me. When I try to save my designs, the option "Save to Cloud Documents" is greyed out. I am connected to the internet, there is plenty of storage left in my cloud, my app is up to date and I have the auto update turned on. The only thing that works so far is to quit and re-open the app, and while it doesn't take much time it quickly became a hassle because it happens quite a lot. Does this happen to anyone else? I'd appreciate the help, thanks!

I was using the Filter Aberration parametric filter extensively and suddenly stopped working. I’ve tried everything I can think of to get it working, but it just won’tAll of the other parametric filters work just fine, but when I click on the Filter Aberration Chromatic nothing happens, over and over.I’ve tried all of the following:Reset preferences Delete preferences Restore Default Filters from the Parametric Filters flyout menu Upgrade to newest version of Photoshop (currently on 27.9.1) Uninstall and reinstall Photoshop Update my graphics drivers to the most current (RTX 4070 Laptop w/ drivers dated July 22, 2026) I’ve tried on numerous files, including low res files Plenty of web searches looking for solutionsI can open and edit the Filter Aberration Chromatic properties on my existing files, but I can’t ever seem to get it working with new files. Is there anything else I can try?Any temporary files or something that the parametric filters use that maybe I can delete? Hello Adobe Photoshop community,I need help with recovering two extremely important Photoshop PSD files.About 7 years ago, my laptop was infected with STOP/DjVu ransomware. Two of my PSD files were encrypted and now have the .psd.todar extension.I still have the original encrypted files, but unfortunately I no longer have the original unencrypted versions.I have already tried the official Emsisoft STOP/Djvu decryptor, but the decryptor has not successfully recovered the files. I am also looking into other legitimate recovery options.I understand that Adobe may not be able to decrypt ransomware encryption. However, I would like to know whether anyone with expertise in Photoshop's PSD file format can determine whether any recoverable Photoshop data remains inside these files — such as the image, layers, previews, thumbnails, or document structure. The ransomware personal ID from the ransom note is:124Asd458uolhJSboVUVxizSvbq8vO4aKqgaUrk2LIqIegkSzBAQdErhI still have both encrypted PSD file

Photoshop 2025 Elements won't open, says I need to “buy now”. It let me use it for 7 days by clicking free trial, but now since the 7 days won’t open I’m unable to open it on my PC. I bought a 3 year term lease on 3/5/2025 so I know it hasn’t run out yet. I reinstalled it and I still get the same message. I tried the chat but because it says I don’t have an active plan it won’t let me chat with a human, and AI doesn’t have a clue. I’m using the same email address I did to redeem the code from Amazon. Please help!!!
