No, jane-e , I can't. It's working like it is supposed to. If you think it's a bug, I'd suggest reporting it here: Feature Request/Bug Report Form .

You are very welcome, and I'm so glad you are back on track. I do want to make sure that you understand that because of how tools are now associated with the workspace, they now appear and disappear with the workspaces. If you were still in the 3D workspace, then holding your mouse button down over the Eyedropper would completely ignore you and the menu wouldn't fly out. You had to switch back to Window > Workspace > Essentials (and potentially Reset Essentials) for the other tools in the flyout to reappear. If you find yourself in this situation again where you feel like you followed these instructions and it still wasn't working, you can also just reset Preferences rather than reinstalling.

Yes... they are the 3D versions of the Eyedropper and Paint Bucket. Now that you are back to the Essentials workspace, press and hold on each tool, and pick the normal ones from each flyout. Note: if they don't fly out, or respond at all you are not in the Essentials workspace. See my first response, above.

InDesign doesn't have it's own equation editor. You can: use the pictures you are already getting from Word and manually adjust the baseline or use a plug-in like [Math+Magic] - The ultimate Equation Editor for Adobe InDesign on the planet!

You are in the 3D workspace. Window > Workspace > Essentials, and if necessary, Window > Workspace > Reset Essentials Photoshop now associates tools with workspaces. For more info on how this works see: https://www.rockymountaintraining.com/adobe-photoshop-cant-find-tool/

Hi Nancy: I know! We have to put on our detective hats and grab our magnifying glasses to figure it out. You can put this on a wishlist here: Home. In my experience, once removed, always removed. Are you (or someone in your office) doing anything to add it back in without knowing it? For example, selecting the template frame on one page and making it slightly longer to accommodate an extra line? If the template frame is just a fraction of a point different from the master page frame, it will generate the message.

In Format > Page Layout > Column Layout, when you specify the number of columns, FrameMaker divides the template frame into equal columns. That can't be changed. To get the look you are after: View > Master pages Select the left template frame with the Object Selection tool Use Graphics > Object Properties to set the width to 18 pc Alt drag the frame to the right: make sure the template frame is set to Flow A (or your primary flow tag) This message confirms that the duplicate frame is connected to the first one. Click OK. Set up the width (16 pc) and position (same top offset) with Graphics > Object Properties. Still using the Object Selection tool, select the template frame on the right page and delete it. Copy the two frames from the left page, click on the right page and Edit > Paste Confirm positions and width with Graphics > Object Properties. View > Body Pages and test the flow.

That means one of the body pages has a override: different margins or column settings from the master in charge of it. If you want consistency across the document, choose remove overrides. There isn't anyplace that I know of to see exactly what the override is: FrameMaker doesn't offer that in any scenario. My rule is no overrides, so it's a no-brainer: if I get the message in any scenario, I made a mistake and I remove it. In your case, save the file first, go to the master, and back to the body pages and remove the override. Then examine each page to see if anything untoward shows up. If it does, File > Revert. If not, File > Save.

Yes, that is correct. Many of us use File > Properties > Initial View (or the corresponding setting in FrameMaker) to set up how the user sees our PDF when they open it. This post is from Acrobat 9, but still valid: https://www.rockymountaintraining.com/adobe-acrobat-9-controlling-a-pdf-files-initial-view/ .

Just I think the developers doesn't work with Indesign and don't care what we need. I'm not sure I agree with this statement: I see Adobe listening to and responding to user needs all the time. If you have a specific idea for Adobe, you can let them know here: Feature Request/Bug Report Form . As for keeping track of the images used, Bridge offers both color labels and stars. It would be pretty easy to set up a system to keep track of which files you have already used. Not sure if I've understand your workaround. I opened up InDesign and Bridge and arranged them on my desktop to resemble the old look for Mini-Bridge. If you aren't familiar with how to use Bridge, here's a start: What is Adobe Bridge? | Adobe Photoshop CC tutorials .

You can set Bridge up to look and work much like Mini-Bridge. In the screen cap below, Bridge is in light table view, and sitting at the bottom of the InDesign window.

Like how professionals use it, why things are how they are? As a trainer, I'd of course suggest that you take a class on InDesign. If the cost isn't feasible, consider investing in Adobe InDesign Classroom in a Book and work through it, or subscribe to Lynda.com and take the time to go through the Essential videos on InDesign.

FrameViewer (and FrameReader) were like early versions of Adobe Reader for FrameMaker documents—it allowed someone to open a native FrameMaker document in a read-only format. It was retired at 5.5, I believe, so no, not supported on current versions of Windows. Save the Frame doc and as a PDF as open it in Adobe Reader DC.

Happy to help! P.S. As a career trainer (with close to 25 on FrameMaker), I feel compelled to mention that "bypassing the Fm learning curve" may turn around to bite you, unless you have terrific support within the office. The people who tell me they "hate FrameMaker" are inevitably the ones who thought they could just figure it out, and failed. Or those who try to make it work like Word, and don't take advantage of Fm's powerful formatting controls. When you have time, I recommend setting aside some time to learning the application: it can do so much of the work for you, if you just know how to design the templates. Ok, I'm done! Happy weekend.

Yes, Style Mapping is a feature of FM 2015. The style names don't need to match: you can match them up during the import process. Save the Word doc as a .doc file. File > Import File The Word Import dialog box comes up automatically: Be sure to enable Import Word doc inline styles and list format, or Fm will remove all inline bold, italics, etc that isn't using a style. ~~~~~~~~~~ In older versions, I would have used your suggestion: create styles in Word whose style names correspond exactly to those in the existing FM file and then used File > Import > Formats to update the definitions.

My thoughts: Do you shrinkwrap the equation when you are finished inserting it? (Esc m p) Are you aware you can zoom way in (maybe 800%) and drag the right edge of the equation frame closer to the equation contents? The punctuation will follow the right frame edge.

Not that I'm aware of in FrameMaker. But in Acrobat, set the Initial View to Single Page instead of Continuous. File > Properties > Initial View. Two Up (Facing) and Two Up (Cover Page) would also work.

Hmmm. I'm wondering why you want to create the HTML page in FrameMaker, when you still have to use an HTML editor to set up the fields (and likely to refine the layout). FrameMaker doesn't have the ability to set up working forms fields for PDF (without a plug-in )or for HTML. Why not use Dreamweaver for the job, or if you no longer have access to it, use another HTML editor or a forms builder tool?

In the case of a PDF, InDesign has interactive forms build right in. You can set up the forms fields, and when you save to a PDF, they just work. In FrameMaker you can set up the underlying forms structure (lines, boxes) but you will have to add the forms fields in Acrobat.

Are the figure numbers separate paragraphs from the the figure titles (same with table numbers and table titles), like your chapter numbers and chapter titles are? To pull them out as side-head paras, they will need to be. They may print on the same line in the chapters using a run in head, but they'll need to be separate paragraphs, i.e., Figure 3.2¶ VLP-16 xxxxxxxxx¶

The Quick Selection tool makes selections based on tone and color. If the tones/colors are too close, it's going to leap beyond where you want it to go. Start by lowering the Tolerance value in the Options bar (up top): a lower value is less tolerant of a tone or color change, and keep the cursor completely inside the area you want to select—don't let the edge of the circle move outside, at all. The Quick Selection Tool - Photoshop Selections I want to add that while it's great for some situations, it doesn't work for everything. In addition to the basic selection tools (marquees, lasso, quick select and magic wand), you might want to explore Quick Mask (which uses painting tools), Select and Mask and some of the more advanced techniques like using channels and the pen tool.
