FrameMaker

I ran across a peculiarity while I was trying to export a couple of  two-page FM files to PDF. In each FM file, one page was blank and the other had a full-page Photoshop .psd graphic. (These are the front and back covers of a book .) No matter how I tried to create the PDF (Save As PDF, Print to PDF), the routine would hang on the page with the graphic and I had to go into the task manager and kill FM. The .psd files were imported by reference and were reasonably large, as one would expect of full-page Photoshop graphics with layers. (One was 66 MB, the other was 48 MB.) After spending a good bit of time trying to force FM to make PDFs of these two files, I relented and went back into into Photoshop,  exported the graphics to .jpg files, and then reimported them into FM. Shazam, FM was able to make PDFs of these new files. Does anyone know why this is happening?  Thanks in advance!

Hello,I have a very simple full-page graphic that will not properly import into FM. The graphic started out as a Photoshop file and I have tried importing it into FM as a .jpg, a .psd and a .pdf. (This is a print job so I'm in CMYK and am not using png. ) When I try the .jpg or .psd import, the white gradient bar and logo disappear but the blue background color remains true. A .pdf import gets all the content but the background and the logo colors change by lightening up and becoming a lot more luminescent.  I flattened the Photoshop file before trying to import is as a native file into FM but that didn't work, and of course the jpg file doesn't have layers at all. The PDF file doesn't have layers either. What am I missing here? Thanks in advance for your help and suggestions!Bill    

Hello to everyone. I have problem with very long FrameMaker document which is originally created on english with alphabetical index on the end. Now I have translation on cyrillic and everything fine but when I start updating of index nothing happen and I need to have cyrillic index!I thought that the index would be automatically generated from the original references to the terms (which are now Cyrillic) in the text, but this does not happen. On the contrary, after the update, all references (contents, titles, ...) are renewed, but the index remains in English.Any advice? Thank you.

Hello,I have done Insert/image, so I have the image inside a frame. Then I have moved the image outside the frame by moving it with the mouse in order to put it at a specific place.But I have noticed that if I resize the image, it distorts the image : I have tried to do graphic/scale and selected "keep aspect ratio", but the image does not go back to the original aspect ratio.How to keep all the time the aspect ratio in order to do not distort the image ?

I am getting book error report when trying to generate TOC in Frame maker. Please suggest solution. I am attaching screenshot for reference. 

I have created a .sts file to import a Microsoft Word document into FrameMaker, matching all of the Word Headings to the FrameMaker Paragraph Styles. I love this feature. Is there any way to do this backwards? To go from FrameMaker to Microsoft Word and preserve all of those Headings/Paragraph Styles? I know I can create a PDF and then export to a Word file, but I don't belive that preserves the Paragraph Styles. I have read a little about RTF files but it sounds like I would run into the same issue?

Hello,I have scanned a technical book in PDF by using Acrobat Pro.In the scanned PDF file I have made a screenshot of this graphic :But inside Frame Maker if I made File/Import/File, the result on the Frame maker document is not good.What do you advise me to do in order to import graphics from this scanned PDF, with a good quality result inside Frame maker ?

Hello, I have been seeing numbers appear at the top of some of my tables and anchored frames, I belive they are there as a result of cross-referencing? Is there a way to make these numbers dissappear? Initialy I thought it was just a text symbol but it did not go away when I published to PDF. 

hi all, I am on FrameMaker 17 and would like to know if anyone has converted an interactive PDF from PPT (essentially a PPT file with master pages and hyperlinks) into FM that can be then published online via RoboHelp? If anyone has any bit of experience in this it woud be super helpful. My source document is in Word with styles identified for headings and paragraphs. I have a Proof of concept in PPT that shows the interactive links I would like to have to link to content.  Is it easier to convert from PPT to FM to RH or do I convert from Word (my source content) and build all my interactions from scratch in FM using Master Pages? thanks in advance

Hi, I can´t get the hyperlinks in the TOC on my PDF to link to the headings in the document. I use Framemaker version: 17.0.2.431. Below is a description on how I create the TOC in Framemaker (instructed by a colleague of mine for whom it works). Insert>Table of Contents>Create standalone TOC>Create StandaloneI choose which chapters to include, check the box “Create Hypertex Links” and then klick OK.A new file Is created which I save on my computer.I go to the first page of my document, the File>Import>File>select the previously savedTOC document>ImportI create a book, saves the book, and open it in Acrobat Pro. The bookmarks look great, all the links in the PDF works except for the ones in the TOC. Can you tell what´s missing to make the TOC work properly?

Using FM2022 Publish to Microsoft HTML Help: Is there a way to have FM only generate the htm files and the HtmlHelp compiler project file? I used to use an older FM2015 or 2017 version and I think it worked that way. I used the Microsoft HTML Help Workshop to finish and build the CHM file from the htm files output by FM.   One reason I am asking is because the resulting CHM file is about 3 times the size of the equivalent CHM file generated using the old FM and the help compiler. I enabled the option to optimize the CHM file size, but it is still too big. Thanks.

I started with a free trial and then made the purchase, but my desktop version keeps saying that "Your purchase wasn’t detected". 

I am currently trying to add an icon (similar to the flag icon in the first paragraph) to the next paragraph. My former colleague added the flag icon and I am new to using Framemaker... I have been able to add the clock icon between the brackets after the bolded 'the clock icon' text, but every time I try to Save the XML-file, the image (of the clock icon) moves to the right (as seen in the image above). I think this has something to do with it being a structured document, but I have no idea what to do... Please help.

Hi all, I have a question regarding importing images into FrameMaker. Side note: I import by: Insert -> Image... -> *selects picture from appropriate folder*Almost all of the figures I've inserted become blurry upon insertion. I've tried many methods to correct this:-resize the image before insertion-only use .png-ensure that the source of the picture is not blurry-played around with the DPI (in Object Properties)-adjusted the size (width and size in Object Properties)Yet, the images are all blurry. Below is an example. I did a screen grab of the calculator, saved it as a .png file, and inserted the image into the FrameMaker document. In the screen grab is the Object Properties for that particular image. I've tried other sources too. I've tried pictures taken by my phone and inserted those. Still blurry. I've saved images from PDFs and inserted. Still blurry. I've even tried to do the other method of insertion: file -> import -> file...->I tried the 'impor

I was working with IT to investigate a potential security issue with providing the Sharepoint details and paths to files that are required in the Connection Manager. When we tested it, IT made a few attempts to enter the details that he thought was required here, but it could not make the connection. Can anyone provide more information about what exactly is required here in each field? Please do not just repeat the name of the field. Please be as specific as possible.   

In fdkprogrammerguide.pdf for FDK2022 it is documented the following way how to register FrameMaker processes as server to be later used with asynchronous client (as instructed in the FDK Programmer's Guide) The command for registering a client: "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe FrameMaker 2022\FrameMaker.exe" /progid:FrameMaker.SAMPASYNPRG.1 /noautodoesn't create any registry records (no value FrameMaker.SAMPASYNPRG found with regedit)Therefore the asynchronous client can not connect with function F_ApiWinConnectSessionFor the older FrameMaker 2017 it is working fine. Does this registration changed in FrameMaker 2022 ?

I have a situation where I need to show two sets of page numbers in the header of some of the files in my book. I need to show the book's current page and total pages. That is pretty straigtforward. I also, in the same header, need to show this .fm file's current page and total pages.  For example:Page 13 of 43Attahment 1Page 1 of 3 Any suggestions? Thanks!

Is the FrameMaker subscription run online? Does this mean I can use a Mac to access it?Thanks, Joyce

Hello,  I did a book and I can publish the PDF. But when trying to send a review PDF, the document is not readable. I mean the text is changed :s  What option do I need to change to make the PDF for review ok ? I don't understand.. It is an unstructured FM and I did check the bow "Generate Tagged PDF" as recommended.  Thank you for your support!
