I want to put some common functions in the same js for other scripts to call, is it necessary and will it affect the speed of the script? What is the best way to reference external functions?I see some people say //@include is better than #include is it?

We’re trying to integrate the Beta version of InCopy into a process. As we test it out with different users, we noticed that some of the users are unable to open the files while others have no issues opening them. Everyone is using Chrome and there doesn’t seem to be any rhyme or reason as to why it doesn’t work. Any tips on getting files open for all users?
I’m doing the typesetting for a book that needs custom shapes behind some words (think the angled rectangles of National Geographic Kids or a watercolor brushed color). The shapes need to scale in size according to the text (like paragraph shading or borders.example of custom shapeAny advice would be most welcome!
Usually, if I got a fill or stroke color set (left in the toolbar) and draw a shape like a square, this fill and stroke (if any is set) will used to create this shape. Now - all of a sudden and who knows since when - it just ignores it?I have a color fill set, I draw the shape = the shape stays unfilled and without any stroke + the preset color and stroke just vanishes to nothing and I have to re-fill or add a stroke while the blank shape is selected….InDesign Version 21.4
Randomly, the cursor changes to thread text when clicking anywhere on a text box.It happens sometimes when trying to select a key object for alignment, when double-clicking on a text box to edit its content, when a text box is selected and I click outside of it (trying to deselect the text box). It doesn’t matter where in the text box I click (meaning, it’s not that I’m clicking on the out port by mistake).I already updated to the latest version, restarted my laptop, quit and restarted InDesign just in case… It’s been happening for days.InDesign version: 21.4.1macOs version: Tahoe 26.5.1
Hi everyone,I'm experiencing a very strange issue with Adobe InDesign 21.4.1 on macOS 26.5.1 (25F80).Whenever I simply click an object with the Selection Tool (black arrow), the object immediately moves a few pixels up and to the left. I'm not dragging it—a single click alone changes the object's position. To rule out document corruption, I created a brand-new blank document, drew a simple rectangle, and the exact same thing happens. Every click moves the rectangle slightly farther up and to the left.I've attached a short screen recording demonstrating the issue. What I've already tried:Created a brand-new document. Tested with a simple rectangle only (no images or text). Disabled Snap to Guides, Snap to Document Grid, and Smart Guides. Performed a completely clean installation of macOS. Installed InDesign from scratch on the fresh system (so this is effectively beyond resetting preferences). The issue persists even after the clean OS and application installation.System InformationInDesi
Hi All,I am on macOS 26.5.1 and testing on InDesign 2025. I notice that getFiles function is behaving strangely. If I do something like the following, I get 0Folder("/Users/manan/Documents").getFiles("").lengthThe same happens with other folders in this folder as well. Now, my script tries to use unPackageUCF and that too fails with these paths as input. I have noticed one thing, when the folders are created on the same day the code works fine. However, once the folders are older than a day the API starts failing. It does not make any sense to me. Any insights?
I’m working on a file with ~350 pages all linking to individual TIFF files, which is typical for my work and I’ve done this before. I worked on the file last night and it opened just fine. Today I opened the file and right after I chose update links the file crashed and closed InDesign immediately. If I choose not to update links, I get the same outcome. I thought this file might be corrupted so I opened some other much smaller files, some that don’t even have any links, and they all crashed before they were able to open. Same thing happens with IDML files. Even if I choose to create an entirely new document, InDesign loads for a moment and then crashes. There is no error message when it crashes, it just closes, but when I reopen ID it asks if I want to recover the previous files (if I say yes the crash happens again). I’m loading these files locally, not from Adobe cloud. I’m on a deadline and have no clue what to do about this. As far as I’m aware nothing with my PC has changed since
I’m building a doc page by page. When I need to add another page, I find that InDesign will randomly add it to the end of the document or insert it in between the last and next-to-last pages… even though no page is selected in the Pages panel. When InDesign decides to insert rather than append a page, I can almost always Undo and then repeat the operation… and it’ll be appended as expected. But right now, InDesign refuses to append a page to the end of the document.
Is there a way how to change default filter in Open file dialog just to INDD files and not All readable? I would like to see only INDD files and not PDF and many others when opening files.
My InDesign document looks normal but when I export to ebook it has introduced random full stops, paragraph breaks and hyphens. How do I get it to look like the InDesign document? There are no hidden characters in there. I've tried a search but it can’t find anything. The author has said that it's been to a few different editors but I’m at a loss as to how to get it to look normal. I’ve tried exporting to pdf from the InDesign and then exporting to word and the word doc looks normal but then the same things appear when putting it back into InDesign and then exporting to ebook. If I export to rtf then you can see the ebook issues. So word and InDesign look normal but rtf and ebook don't. Any suggestions?
I am using a data merge for a brochure I am working on. In the brochure there are tables, I would like to remove any cells which are empty by using a script. I have found several online and added them into the script folder (not all at the same time), however I get an error every time. Can anyone help - please?
I’ve had this issue on Windows and Mac where the Links panel > Show/Hide Information doesn’t work. When I open an InDesign file, the panel shows the Link Info. However, if I need more space to see other panels, I click the Link Info ˅ to collapse the panel. That part works. What doesn’t work is trying to relaunch it. I click the Link Info and nothing happens. I have to close InDesign and open it back up. This happens from the time I install the Adobe apps, so I don’t see this as being a Preferences issue. It’s been a problem for many years. Anyone know of a workaround?
Hi AllAgain, with a version update glitch that hasn’t been fixed in a few updates. My team uses placed InDesign files in InDesign as a way to use the same content across multiple projects eg. a layout of logos, etc. It’s an ideal way with our workflow and we’ve been doing it for years, we’re not on here to look for a solution for that as everyone’s documents and workflows are different and there’s so many other uses we do this for.Recently, we’re exporting .pdfs and the vector logos that are placed onto pages are exporting as blank shapes where the logos should be. They look fine on the InDesign document before we export, but the .pdf is wrong. A fix each time we encounter it is that we edit the original by putting a blank frame on the page, deleting it and saving the file. We’ve discovered the files are always saved in the most recent version of InDesign, but before that didn’t matter.Any help (or a bug fix) would be greatly appreciated. There are blue dots peppered in the menus, hinting at "new features". They are supposed to go away once you actually use this feature. However for quite some time now for me those blue dots return, when not at fresh PC boot then at least after any oh so minor update of InDesign. Since there seems to be no setting to not "bother" me with new "features", is there any workaround? Do I need to set write rights to folders/files or something like that?
InDesign’s Auto-generate Alt Text Feature Needs to ChangeHere’s an article covering the concerns around Generative Alt Text in InDesign.https://creativepro.com/opinion-indesigns-auto-generate-alt-text-feature-needs-to-change/I’m sharing it to help raise awareness and hopefully push the discussion forward in a constructive way. This feature has the potential to be genuinely useful and even excellent, especially for accessibility workflows, but it needs to be implemented with proper user control, review and approval. For production environments, alt text is not harmless background metadata. It is content that may be read, exported, translated, checked and relied on by real people. That means it needs to be accurate, intentional and auditable. The goal should not be to remove the feature. The goal should be to make it truly workable, reliable and professional the kind of feature it clearly has the potential to be.
Hi,We are having an issue with Adobe InDesign where files saved on a network drive are opening as read-only. What’s happening:Files open as read-only for multiple users Save option forces “Save As” On the server, files show as open by a user That user does not actually have the file openWhat I’ve checked:Users confirmed file is not open on their device Checked open sessions on the server > It shows as the file being open by the user eventhough it’s not Disabled Preview Pane in Windows Explorer Deleted .idlk lock files where found Copied files locally → works fine (not read-only) Checked permissions (all OK) Restarted machines Updated InDesign to latest versionThis is happening across multiple files and users, only on the network drive. Any ideas what could be causing this? Thanks
Hello All,I am developing a C++ plugin on InDesign Server 2026, where I need to resize the margins on the Master Pages. And based on new Inside / Outside margin values need to adjust the text frames (left and right ) on the master page. I tried adjusting through C++ functions like SetPathBoundingBox() / SetStrokeBoundingBox() / Utils<Facade::IGeometryFacade>()->SetItemsBounds(). We noticed the text frame does not resize correctly. it leaves spaces either on Left or Right side.I also tried calling java script to use the option AutoAdjustLayout which is on Margins dialog.var mydoc = app.documents.item(0);var myadjustprefs = mydoc.adjustLayoutPreferences;myadjustprefs.enableAdjustLayout = true; This does set the option as selected but does not reflect the text frames.Has anyone tried this. Any advice or help would be really helpful. Thanks & RegardsFarzana.
After updating InDesign to 21.3 it broke DLLs and will not open. Error: “The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000142)” You can repair C++ redistribution (although that is a temporary fix as InDesign will break the DLLs again) Uninstalling 21.3 and installing 20.5.3 is recommended.
For the past few months, I’ve been able to work around this issue, but it has now reached a point where I can’t. When exporting PNG files in Adobe InDesign, the drop shadows shift position during export. The shadows appear correctly within InDesign, but once the PNG is exported, the shadows are visibly displaced from their original placement. I am currently using Adobe InDesign version 21.3.Here’s a longer forum:This forum has been marked as “answered” but it is only suggested workarounds from the community. Here’s an example:Inside Indesign, the shadows are where they’re supposed to be.Flattened .png files placed as assets in Animate. The shadows moved.I’ve gone back into InDesign multiple times to correct the shadow placement and re-export the files, but the shadows continue to export incorrectly, which has become a major issue in my workflow.I’ve been dealing with this bug daily for months, often having to resize assets in InDesign just to temporarily work around the problem. I’m ho
