InDesign

I use InDesign 5.5. I created a page, placed five mp3 songs on it, exported the page as PDF. Got a file whose size indicates that the audio files are all embedded. Yay!If I open the PDF in Acrobat Reader, clicking on the preview starts every song correctly. That's great, but clicking again, or clicking another song doesn't stop the old song from continuing. Oops! Once started, a MP3 plays to the very end no matter what I do short of closing Reader. If a user clicks several MP3's they all play resulting in a major sonic cacophony... hmm.Is there an elegant solution to having a handful of songs on a book page? Thank you.

I have both exterior and interior hyperlinks in my document. Simple interior hyperlink such as, "see page 10" points to page 10. Everything works beautifully both in the interactive pdf, and when I publish online to the Adobe server ... until I make a password protected version of the file. External links still work but interior hyperlinks have all gone screwy. Totally unfunctional. I really need for the file to be protected. I'm guessing there's some sort of permissions issue ... when I open the file using the password I thought the links would continue to function normally. Am I missing something? Is this a known thing?

I have a file with 23 different masters (all same background) but prices alter so 23 are needed, then the client goes from A2 to A3 (so do via liquid page) however, masters stay at A2 and when I drag one down to add a late product it messes up all the others. Any advice to maybe changing masters all at once, when i do that it does everything but the text file i need for pricing the product, that stays as A2 thanks

Hello, I teach remotely and my students need to see live demos of me using InDesign. The university requires we use Microsoft Teams (rather than Zoom).   The issue is, the the top control panel for InDesign (InDesign, File, Edit, Layout, Type, Object, Table, View, etc) will not move with the application frame (the InDesign window) from my MacBook Pro to my second display screen (LG). It is stuck.   Because the camera is on my MacBook Pro, I use my MacBook Pro monitor for the Microsoft Teams display. This is ideal because I want to work with InDesign on the larger screen.   Again, the issue is that the essential tool bar (the top tool bar) will not move to the second screen.   This doesn't seem like a big issue, but it actually is. The students need to see how I access different tools and they can not see anyting regarding the top tool bar.   Please help.   Thank you.

Related to the topic of pdf accessibility. Why is it that in an exported pdf, images that are anchored in InDesign in continuous text are displayed last in order to be read on the page, even though there is some text after them, but in order they display before the images? Article options do not work. Tag Exports are set for headings and graphic styles. How to preview and correct the order in InDesign?

Hi, I’m a bit unsure how to explain this question, but basically, on many of my pages, the text doesn’t fully extend to the bottom. I think this is mainly due to the way my layout is set up and my efforts to avoid widows and orphans. I’ve noticed that "famous" books also have this issue, so I assume it’s something I just have to accept. However, it feels like it’s happening too often in my book. Is there a way to fix or adjust this, or do I just need to accept it? I am unable to adjust the copy.  Thank you very much for any help!

Hi thereJust wondering if anyone else is having the same issue as me. I work with iMac computers and save my work directly to a QNAP server. When I go to open or access any files which are located on the QNAP server from any Adobe App or Microsoft App and "Show items as: List" The Date added is NOT showing. However files located on the iMac the Date added is showing fine for those same folders and Files.Also when viewd from Finder the "Date added" is showing regardles where the files are located.I have attached some screengrabs to illustrate this. If anyone can shed any light

Thi sis driving me crazy and its not just in indesign its in Illustrator and photoshop too.   When ever I open the programe it wants to give me some tool tips on the libraries panel and it does it every single time. I have even turned tool tips off but it wont give up.   This is from a clean install of windows. Brand new install of adobe.    Please save me from this hell scape, until I click the damn things I cannot get work done.     <Title renamed by MOD>

Hi,I created my tables in a different InDesign file, but when I copy and paste them into another file's text frame, they act a bit weird. They don’t respect the spacing before and after from the text frames.I wanted to check if there’s a correct way to do this.

It seems like I read a post that Indesign Beta version could convert a PDF file back into Indesign. Any progress on that one? I had my entire 2024 archive of files wiped out by my IT department. I'm trying to fast track a project for updates and I only have the PDF.

Hello everyone,I have several questions about text variables in indesign. I have a 100-page document with about thirty text variables placed all over the place.Is there a way of highlighting them to make it easier to find them (a bit like the highlighter for style replacements)? The frame around the variables is very discreet, I can't see it very well.Second question. Is it possible to see the variables that are not used in my current document?Last question. Is there a way of choosing a specific glyph for a letter? I use the GT Haptik font, which has two letter Gs, but unfortunately the default G that appears in my text variables is the one I don't like. I have multiple instances of logos within a document and as well as many other image links. I have the logo layer as the first layer but cannot get them to always be at the top of the Links panel. I would really like the logos (which have to be changed frequently) to always be the top link. Are there any ways to do this? I have tried sorting by layer but it doesnt work. 

Can anyone tell me why this is happening? I make a relatively basic gradient in Illustrator, copy it, and paste it into an InDesign document. To me, it kind of looks as though the third colour is swapped with black, maybe? Also, look at the weird cropping on the shape in InDesign (it looks like parts of the curve are missing - on the bottom and right side of the circle). Furthermore, weirdly, when I paste the circle with the gradient, the edge looks smooth enough in InDesign, but when I paste a plain solid colour circle, the edge looks jagged and nasty. I've set InDesign to high quality display, and cleared per object display settings, FYI.

Hi there, I'm having problems with printing an indesign document to pdf to try and compress a file further. Everytime I try and print it gives a notification saying that i dont have a printer installed. Am I missing drivers or something, I can't seem to find any information on how to solve this so far. It is the same for all other adobe programs as well, i cant print to pdf in programs such as acrobat DC and photoshop because the adobe pdf printer is missing and i dont know why. if anyone can help that would be very appreciated Cheers

Hallo zusammen, ich habe folgendes Problem: Ich möchte eine Indesign-Datei, wie ich es bereits hunderte Male getan habe, in ein umfließbares ePub exportieren. Die Schriften und Glyphen sollen in der Form erhalten bleiben wie sie im Dokument angelegt sind (kursiv und Guillemets). Im November noch habe ich ein Dokument fehlerfrei exportiert. Aktuell gelingt das nicht. Habt ihr eine Idee, woran es liegen könnte? Als Reader benutze ich verschiedene, unter anderem Adobe Digital Edition. Hi all,  I am using Adobe InDesign 20.0 with Document Setup set to include a bleed of 0p8.504 (or 3mm). In the InDesign workspace, I can confirm that the red bleed line appears and my images extend to the bleed line.  When I export the file to PDF Print, I have the 'Use Document Bleed Settings' and 'Bleed Marks' ticked, but the resulting PDF does not include the red bleed line. What am I missing? Please see screenshots attached for reference.  I appreciate any help!  

Hi guys! I have an issue that I've been trying to fix for the last few hours but cant seem to fix... I am updating a catalogue which has to contain hyperlinks to products in a webshop. I am working off of the catalogue from last year, that already had buttons containing hyperlinks to all the specific products in the webshop.However, when I click on the button in the interactive PDF, it does not open one page, but two pages (one of them not being the linked product). It is always either product A or B who's page is additionaly opened. So e.g. when clicking product K, it opens K and A, but with producht M it opens M and B. When I click product A, A and B get opened. When I create a new button for the product and add a new hyperlink the issue dissapears. But since we have about 200 products I dont really want to create new ones for all of them.  Whats also strange: If I click on the button in the PDF it opens the two pages, if I then close and reclick the sam

Hi friends,I am encountering a couple of unusual things when I export from InDesign to PDF.#1: The letter following the drop cap disappears!Note: I did receive a warning that the glyph was not available when I used the paragraph style with the drop cap.#2: Some periods near the text-frame edge also disappear. Here is a screenshot of a page in PDF (converted to JPG):And here is a screenshot of the same page in JPG where they did not disappear.Any clues how to fix this? Thanks!!Eli

Ich habe zwei verknüpfte Textfelder, Inhalt Beispiel "Meine Woche vom 8.-14.2.2025", Textfeld 1 ist Schriftgröße 25. Ändere ich in Textfeld 1 das Datum, kann ich durch Klick auf das Rufzeichen den Text in Textfeld 2 aktualisieren, am Ende sind beide Inhalte gleich.Ich möchte aber Textfeld 2 mit kleinerer Schriftgröße 15 haben, wie kann ich es einstellen, dass nach dem Aktualisieren nur der Inhalt, nicht aber die Textgröße / Formatierung aus Textfeld 1 übernommen wird?Ich habe es schon mit "Benutzedefinierte Formatzuordnung" versucht, aber das hat nicht geklappt.Für Hilfe bin ich sehr dankbar!

Hi, what I'm trying to do is add an eventListener to a document so when I place an image in a box it will check the image name against an applied script label. What I have so far works on documents that have been saved but not on documents that haven't been. However if I open a document that has been saved and then click to the document that hasn't been saved the script then starts working. HiI have a 2 column Indd file, and I need to insert 226 pictures in succession into the document, while changing the picture size. Is there a tool/process that can automate this process - doing it manually is simply tiring. Thank youAvi
