InDesign

When I open an InDesign file…it comes up snd fills my screen..,I have no control. What’s going on? Is this a fixable problem?

I've followed all the suggestions made by the virtual assistant and other AI, but my InDesign still freezes whenever I place an image. Any image, large or small, png or jpeg. I have reset all preferences and checked RAM and CPU - all good. 

I am building an InDesign C++ SDK plugin. I want to know if i need a unique plugin ID, if so, how can I get one?

I am creating multiple book files based on the indd files I have. In each book file the chapters are in different orders. How do I set up my parent page to automatically update the chapter numbers as it does for the page numbers? No matter what I try all the chapters keep the same number as the first in the book file.

I have a book with some dozen files. The files are all open, synchronised, page numbers updates and fully preflighted. I Have Generate Index.,Include Book Documents.Enable Replace Existing Index.Yet, the index fails to pick up numerous entries.See image, there are many many entries for ‘Kevin’ but only one picked up. Grateful for any help 

Hello, I have a multi-page AI file placed in my InDesign document. After making changes to the AI file, I save it. When I check the Links panel in InDesign, the yellow triangle alert appears. I ALT-click the update button, and InDesign updates all the links, but the changes I made in the AI file are not reflected in InDesign. This is a process I've done many times before without any issues. The same problem occurred with a different file yesterday. I've tried restarting my PC in case it was a glitch, but that didn't help. Do you have any idea why the link update function isn't working as it should?   <Title renamed by MOD>

The properties panel, when on and open, creates freezing trouble when working on older files not created with the current version of Indesign I’m using.  It’s a significant freeze/delay when clicking between text and image containers and text or select tools.  Even having the type tool open, things like highlighting a word can fail.  I might get 3 letters out of a 4 letter word highlighted before it freezes.  Selecting two image boxes and a text box might lock it up for 2 to 8 seconds. Or it may just skip one of four items I tried to select, such as the third item because it was in the middle of a freeze while I was clicking that one. etc...This very specifically was detailed by another user 7 years ago and the topic was closed stating version 14 had fixed this issue. Since version 21.4.1 it doesn’t take long and an InDesign session won’t work without problems anymore. I drag an image in a window or change text in a textfield and the cursor turns into the “busy” symbol (revolving circle). It doesn’t turn back into a normal cursor anymore and all functions seem to be restricted. The program seems to be busy with something.I also cannot close the app the normal way. There is a warning window opening up when trying to do it via menu. But this window closes itself after a second and I cannot read what it says.The only way to shut down the app is by opening up the task-manager and close it with “end task”.I am working on a windows 11 x64 system.

We have InDesign files on our company data drive which is storred on a server.Some of the external content we link to from InDesign are storred in a MS Teams site.When person 1 adds linked content, the path is something like C:\Users\person 1\company name\site name\folder\file name.extension.If person 2 edits the InDesign document, the link is broken as InDesign seems to use adbolute links, so the linked content is pointing to a location (C:\Users\Person 1\… and not person 2.How do we use InDesign with linked content on MS Teams or SharePoint, when the paths change for each user or is this not possible? Thank you for your help. Chris.

I am facing frequent hanging issues with the latest update of Adobe InDesign software. Please fix this problem as soon as possible so that I can work smoothly.

The layout and structure will stay mostly the same, but I want to redesign the visual assets, including hero banners, icons, promotional graphics, category images, and other supporting visuals to create a more modern and consistent look.I'd also appreciate any advice on keeping everything consistent throughout the project. when I try to link this PDF, the program freezes at “importing.” I was wondering if anybody could try on their machine and confirm the problem. Thanks! 

I am having issues exporting from InDesign to PNG when my type layer has a drop shadow applied. I do not believe it's just. a screen redraw issue, because exporting as JPG works fine, but exporting as PNG moves my dropshadow down and away from its proper location.  For confidentiality reasons, I may not be able to post samples of my graphic. (I am at a new job where they build their files in InDesign and have set requirements for export formats, so I can't just go with a different format. I may push for using llustrator vs. InDesign for issues like this, but for now as it's my second day, we are sticking with InDesign as I'm not ready to rock the boat. Yet.)

I’m saving 175 inside pages in InDesign of a novel to be uplaoded to Amazon KDP, as a HD pdf using the default ID settings. After multiple errors uploading, they said the issue was that hey don’t support a LaTeX/pdfTeX formatted pdf. I’ve never heard of that, but would like to know if I can adjusst that in the settings before saving the pdf. They said they prefer PDF/X-1a formatted pdf.

I work on a 27” iMac but like my documents to not cover the whole screen so I am able to access things on my desktop easily. Have been using InD since about 2002 and it worked fine, whatever size I set my window to and created a new document, it would stay the same size but the 2026 (21.1) every time I create a new doc, it opens it to full screen! Having to have to resize a doc each time was getting too time consuming so I now use 20.5 (2025) version 95% of the time. I have called tech support repeatedly over this & no solution ever was given. Can I really be the only person who doesn’t want it to cover my whole screen? I have found over the years not everything they say on tech support is true. Does anyone know a workaround to keep the windows open to the size of my choosing? When placering photos or others assets in InDesign - the software “dies”. I can still save the document, but the cursor changes into the “waiting” icon and InDesign is almost unsuable.And I have to hard reset the application (wont shut down) in Task Manager.Searching the internet and using AI I found these solutions:01 Disable Microsoft Defender (installed BitDefender instead) /bad AI advice02 Disable GPU use in InDesign /bad AI advice03 Delete the APP/USER/ROAMING and LOCAL folders for InDesign /bad AI advice04 Placing the files on desktop to avoid network and cloud systems. /bad AI advice04 Disable Adobe Fonts /bad AI advice05 Disable Ransomeware detect /bad AI adviceNothing works… and the “funny” part is - its on two different computers! My work-pc and my home-pc.Issue has been going for months now… and it is almost impossible to work with.Have to hard reset InDesign and relaunch again - place a few assets… crash - hard reset and so on.HELP REALLY NEEDED! 

When working in InDesign, entire objects (text fields, color areas, linked images) disappear and are no longer displayed. Not even their frames. The layers cannot be selected by clicking on the location where the elements are located. Zooming into the document or changing the view mode doesnt change anything in the visability of the objects.  However, the objects are still there in the layers window. Similarly, when exporting a PDF, the invisible objects become visible again. I can make the objects visible again by copying and pasting them onto a new page or by saving an IDML and opening it. However, the objects keep disappearing when working in the file.Tested with GPU turned on and off.

When I open an InDesign document, the window fills my monitor from corner to corner so it's difficult to grab any edge to resize it, and it covers everything on my desktop so I'm resizing constantly. I seem to remember a feature in earlier versions, something like "remember window size." Has this been eliminated or is there a new preference for this useful feature? I'm running InDesign CC on an iMac with OS 10.15.7 Catalina. TIA.  

Hi all, I've been trying for days to solve an issue with publishing online links from INDD files. Every time the export reaches 100%, I'm presented with a pop-up that states 'An error occured while uploading your document. Please try again. ERROR #18' I understand that ERROR #18 refers to a failure to connect with the internet network, but I am 100% connected to the internet - it's just that Indesign fails to export the file. The file is not corrupt, and my INDD app is running smoothly otherwise. I've already tried:- changing internet networks- uninstalling INDD- installing previous versions of INDD and trying to export- uninstalling/re-installing entire Adobe CC system- Using the Adobe Clean tool to clean INDD + other CC apps- checking if the file is corrupt/saving copies of my INDD file to external hardrives- restarting my laptop I'm desperate to get this working as it's part of my job, so any help would be greatly recommended. I'm running macOS Monterey 12.1

My Adobe InDesign shortcut keys no longer work! (very useful when toggling between Preview and Normal View, etc.) The shortcut keys do, however work fine in Photoshop. Uninstalled and reinstalled etc to no avail.Also, is there a way to set the InDesign Default Workspace? I used to open InDesign all the time and it would open to my preferred Workspace (Advanced), but not it opens to what appears to by no workspace enabled )(not even essentials) meaning I need to go and select Advanced every time I open an ID document.

What’s up with InDesign?  Trying to edit a simple 1 page file with three grouped boxes (text, photo, background), I can’t do anything.  Click on a box to place a graphic, cursor spins for 20 minutes.. but will let me continue clicking elsewhere. Somehow the box was grabbed and moved - I can’t grab it to move it back (cursor is still spinning), there’s no undo button.  I’m losing it.  What is up with InDesign?! (I’m on Windows 11.)  I’ve restarted, there are no updates, this is making me nuts. InDesign is using 2 GB of memoryEDIT: Deleted the font cache, seemed to be in a death loop that was consuming all resources
