Questions

I am currently working on a book with about 16 documents and literally thousands of cross-references. Every time I open the documents, there are 5-12 broken cross-references in each document. I fix them all, and the next time I open the documents it might be the same ones broken again, or it might be different ones. For example, there might be three specific pages that are "problematic," and many -- but not all -- cross-reference (across all the documents) pointing to those pages will be broken. I fix them all. Then the next day, maybe the same 3-4 pages or maybe a different 3-4 pages will be problematic, and many -- but not all -- cross-references pointing to THOSE pages will be broken. Nothing about the source pages has changed.  Does anyone know why this might be happening? Or what I can do to prevent it from continuing to happen?  The project is nearly done, so I'm considering just ignoring the broken cross-references for now, and then having that be m

Hi, I can't upload any document new or old to Indesign at the moment.  Getting error code #18 Have tried various documents that have previously worked on two computers, tried two networks, have checked network proxies, signed out of indesign / adobe cloud and signed back in, restarted computer, restarted routers.  Running Indesign 15.1.3 on Mac High Sierra 10.13.6 (desktop) and Catalina (laptop). Have got this code:{"_links":{"self":{"href":"https://cc-api-cp.adobe.io/api/v2/limits","type":"application/hal+json"}},"small_file_upload_limit":52428800,"rendition_size_limit":2048,"copy_job_subtasks_limit":1000} Urgent help appreciated.  Thanks.

How can I get transparant text with the black around it? 

I'm using indesign 4 & win 7. I have a 47 page document I'm trying to break into several smaller ones.  The original document is 45,420 KB in size.I copied that document and renamed it to Part1.  Not the original and Part1 are the same size. I open Part1 and delete from pages 8 - 47.  Now Part1 is only 7 pages in length, text and pictures.  I save it out.  However, it is still showing 45,000+KB in size.  Same size as the original 47 page document. I went to the last text block, using the selection pointer, I double clicked on the larger square box  to try and delete any text that Part1 might be holding on to.    With the Show Text Threads turned on, the is nothing connected to the out port of the last text box on the last page.  Save Part1 again.  It's still showing 45,000kb. How do I shrink this document down to what it should be, my guess would be about 1/5 of the original size or 9,000KB.  

Hi, I'm using version 20.0.1An indesign document I was just working on all day today crashed at the end of the day and I lost my work because nothing had autosaved. When I relaunched and tried to open the file again I got a message saying the pages could not be found and do I want to postpone recovery. I clicked yes to recover the document later. I've not been able to recover the recent version. The file in the folder is showing last saved this morning. I have gone into the file on my C drive where supposedly it is backing up to and I see DBT and DBS files from before the crash, but cannot work out how to open these to see if the work is in there? I have tried copying them to another location and trying to open them with indesign. I've also tried putting .indd at the end of them before doing this... Also, I can't figure out why autosave is not working. I went into Edit>Preferences>File handling but there is nothing relevant in there that I can see? (Image below).Fo

I'm working on some pdf in which I want to add animation. I tried with Indesign but animation is not working in PDF. Please help me if there is any way do it.

Hi, I am having difficulties with cells in a table keeping their assigned alignment when they are dragged onto the canvas.I created a table and assigned alignment for each cell to align the copy vertically centered. When the table is off the canvas, it aligns correctly.When I drag the table to the canvas, the vertical alignment does not function as expected. (I expect it to continue to be aligned correctly. ) There are rows that align top or bottom even though they are assigned vertical alignment center.I'm not sure what I am doing wrong. Any help is appreciated.

Hello!It's great with the new upgrades in InDesign, but the question is when will you make changes to the insertion of footnotes! The ones we use now are outdated, i.e. with limited capabilities. Why don't you use the solutions of Word and QuarkPress, which have a large range of choices for inserting footnotes. Is that difficult or does it become something else.And one more thing, is it possible to insert the Cyrillic Macedonian alphabet when creating an index. I am attaching the Cyrillic alphabet in Macedonian (Аа, Бб, Вв, Гг, Дд, Ѓѓ, Ее, Жж, Зз, Ѕѕ, Ии, Јј, Кк, Лл, Љљ, Мм, Нн, Њњ, Оо, Пп, Рр, Сс, Тт, Ќќ, Уу, Фф, Хх, Цц, Чч, Џџ, Шш).   With respect,Toni Kostoski

I’m experiencing an issue with Creative Cloud documents not updating in InDesign. To clarify, this is specifically about Creative Cloud documents, not Creative Cloud Files.I’m using InDesign 20.0.1 x64 and Photoshop 26.3.0.To test this, I created an InDesign document and placed two Photoshop files:One from my local drive.One that is a Creative Cloud document.I then edited both Photoshop files.When I reopened the InDesign document, it correctly detected that the Photoshop file from my local drive had changed and updated it accordingly. However, it ignored the Creative Cloud document. Even though the image in the document was outdated, the Links panel still showed it as "Up to Date."I understand that support for Creative Cloud documents in InDesign is relatively new, but I haven’t been able to find any information on whether this behavior is expected or if it’s a bug.Any insights or solutions would be greatly appreciated!

Hi,I am still learning on how to use InDesign more proefficently.I am in charge of a catalogue and I will have many pages to edit according to a model.I want to have a red ribbon, the title of the product and below an image of the product, some icons. Since I have an alternance of left and right pages, I want to have a parent organizint them directly with a specific font (size, family, placement) and to have the images respecting this order (left page: photo+icons/right page: icons+photo)  Is there a way to do it efficiently?Thanks and Happy New Year!

I have somehow changed my text boxes.  First, there is no resizing icons on them.  But most annoying is when i do try and size them they act like polygons.  Could someone tell me what i have done.  Thank you.

Hello, I am looking for someone that could help me by opening a 2001  .pmd (or .p65) file I have and saving it as an .indd. I've tried all that is possible suggestions I've got so far and have been researching all over the web but none of the solutions I've found are working for me. I don't have and can't find a InDesign CS version that works. Does anyone here provide this service or could kindly open the file for me?Thank you!

I'm running Indesign4 on Win 7.  (I know both are old, but I own both and can't afford adobe's new rent policy for the little I use Indesign.) I have a 47 page document that I'm trying to break into chapters, smaller blocks.  What I had envisioned was take my original document and copying multiple pages, say 8 pages for Chapt 1, them some 6 for Chapt2, etc.  and saving each of the blocks as their appropriate Chapter.  Then try and find a way to put them all together when I want to publish/print the document. My first problem is I can't seem to be able to copy x number of pages as a block and past them into the new Chapter Y document.  How to I get the contigious block of pages to copy? TIA JohnT

Using Calendar Wizard add-in, which I have used for many years.  This year,however, after I create a calendar (each month a separate page), I am unable to type anything into some, but not all, individual days.  When I try a black line appears over several rows and I am able to add text into those rows.  Not sure if anyone here uses Calendar Wizard, but if someone does, help would be appreciated.

Hi everyone, I am finding that the Table Of Contents (TOC) is listing items in a different order to the page.As a secondary (not as important) you can see the formatting of some of the TOC varies. Any ideas, please? PS. All titles are in alphabetical in the document, so Botanical Coloured pencils (for exmple) comes under the DIPLOMA COURSE heading.     

Every time I open my InDesign file, it says that fonts are missing. However, I have all the font files and have gone through the process of "replacing" all the fonts with the same fonts that the programs says is missing. Even with saving, this never saves the linking of the fonts, so the error message for missing fonts always appears. Is there a way to permanently embed the fonts in InDesign? If so, how?Thanks!

Hello all, I'm going absolutely bonkers over this one. I am designing my own trading card game and I require the use of symbols, similar to Magic the Gathering. I have already created a font with ligatures and symbols to do this, but I needed the symbols to be color coded when ran through InDesign's data merge. I worked around this by assigning GREP styles to each ligature callout with the correct color, and the symbols changed accordingly. It was working perfectly. The frustrating thing that's happening now is that I had it all working properly and even have sample cards correctly printed with the colored symbols - however, after taking a few months break from designing, I come back to the document after an adobe update and suddenly everything is out of whack. All my symbols are black only, and nothing I do can change the colors. Does anyone know what happened, or how to fix this? Perhaps there's a way to create a font where the symbols are pre-colored so when they're c

 Here we have some frames divided in columns and between some columns we need to insert new colours and preserve the order  (the white one box will be a new colour). The orange colour will jump to the next page. That it's the point, not shown here.But it has not been possible to join the frames: One way is to touch the outport of one frame and connect it to the same port of the second frame but when taking that icon to the new frame it doesn't show it because ID cannot apparently select elements in different pages.Another way is to take the loaded cursor and place it on top of the frame but in these frames the contact does not occur and it places a new text box, as seen in the picture (any out port is visible): What is required is this. Connect A with B. Center threads are already created.  We couln't use a thread stories type of script because it threads all the stories and not being able to select two stories on different pages (by default?) the script becomes useless

Hi,I am trying to do this but have no clue how to achieve this. In the attached image, there is a footnote continuation mark, marked with red circle.This mark will appear only of the footnote is continued from next page. How can I achieve this in Indesign? Does any other software does this kind of stuff ? Like Quark Express or Scribus ?Thanks

My InDesign (v 15.1.2) document clearly shows thtat I have inserted an en dash (–), but when I convert my document to an intereactive PDF, the en dash reverts back to a hyphen.  I generally create en dashes with the shortcut, but because of the issue I'm having, I also tried creating it via type> insert special character>hyphen and dashes>en dash. Does anyone have any idea why this is happening and how I can maintain the en dash in the PDF? Thanks in advance for any replies/solutions!

I am using InDesign CC 2017. Is there a way to disable vertical page scrolling and view just one page at a time while scrolling? I know the shortcut of pressing the alt button while doing page up and page down, but I want to turn the scrolling off altogether.

Hey guys, Anyone having trouble just starting inDesign 2025? I've been a long time user, with a new Macbook Pro m4 Max. But I can't even open inDesign 2025, it just starts lagging. I am FULLY aware that a solution is to re-install 2024, and also to reset settings. First of all, I can't even get into any settings. Since it won't open.  This is version 20.0.1 — on another note, anyone tired of constantly struggling to use inDesign? When I'm able to run Blender on crazy settings, but I can't open inDesign, or when I could it was super laggy..
