Hi, I have a 200 page 6x9 doc which I want to print as a test on our own office A4 printer. I can print it okay but the over sideof the page is out of sync with the primary side. I habe tried double side flip as well as regular but can't get it to place itself in the right place on the page. Any suggestions please? Thanks
I need to add a very long text document to the middle of a book. Think of it like adding a huge chapter in between chapters 5 and 6. I want to auto-flow the text, so I don’t have to just manually add the additional pages, because it will be annoying as heck to have to manually add like 200 pages. Is this possible?
When I use the Tags panel in InDesign file to map Styles to Tags, all cross-references turn red with a dropdown error message: “Referenced paragraph or text anchor is missing.”I have tried to save the InDesign file as IDML and reopen - with similar result as above. The InDesign file needs to be exported as XML with error-free cross-references for translation. Please see the attached InDesign file with the cross-reference issue.Thank you in advance for your help. We are experiencing an issue with Adobe InDesign in which it opens files with only read permissions, so when the user tries to save the file it errors and the user is forced to use Save As and use a new file name. Details:Software: Adobe InDesign 2024 (19.4.0.63)Device: macOS 13.5.2 (22G91) (Build 22G91)Storage: Files stored on Shared Drive (SMB) We have checked on the server where the files are stored, and Computer Manager confirms that the user has the file open in "Read" mode instead of "Write+Read". We have verified that the user has Full Control permissions to the file and that no other user is trying to access the same file at the same time. Any help is appreciated, thanks.
Hi all! I’m learning about merging data into my InDesign files. I’ve figured out how to do it (YAY!). But I noticed that a lot of the data (text) in my Excel file isn’t formatted. I need to italicize certain magazine names. I figured I could just do a find/replace. But… it doesn’t change the merged text. I did a test, and it DOES change the text I added to test this. But it won’t change the merged text. I can go in and do it by hand, but it won’t do it all at once. What can I do to get around this? In case I didn’t make it obvious, the merged text IS actually text… and is editable. Thanks!
I’m learning how to merge data and images into an InDesign file. I’m new to this process. I have a bunch of charts (PDFs) that I’m importing via the merge function. They are merging, but they are all over the place in terms of size (98%, 107%, 160%). How can I “force” them to pop in at 100%? And secondly, is there a way to make sure they always merge in at the same x/y coordinate? Thanks!
LG, Birgit
Hi everyone, I hope this post helps others too!In Indesign I have images and text overlaying and when I PDF the page, the images I think flatten and they get a very thin white box around them. It only happens when I print to PDF, is there a way to get rid of these?

Hi everyone, I’m looking for a way to select all objects or text frames that reside on a specific layer across different pages simultaneously. Currently, selecting them page-by-page is too time-consuming. Is there a built-in feature, a shortcut, or perhaps a script that can achieve this? Thanks in advance!
PC, Intel Core Ultra 9 285K (3.70 GHz), 96 Ghz RAM, Nvdia 5080 Windows 11/64 up to dateI have worked with InDesign since version 2 but have not in that time worked with a document with footnotes so for anything about footnotes, I am a complete beginner. I am working on a 44-page historic quarterly that has one story with extensive footnotes as a Word document. I have extracted that story and attached it as a pdf'When I placed it the footnotes attempted to format but not with any consistency. I found a YouTube tutorial on footnotes and attempted to follow it, but still could not completely control the location of the rule or the spacing between indidvidual footnotes.I set up a footnote pargraph style w/ .02 between notes, but I am getting what appears to be double spacing, so I reset it to 0.00 and got the same thing with, for the most part unpredictable locations for the rules. Also set up a footnote character styleCan anyone steer me in the right direction? Thanks to those who know mor
I have recently had to reinstall the full CC suite, which included the usage of the Adobe CC cleaner. Now, in InDesign, I see that my TOC Styles are missing. I was sure that they would have been there when exporting user settings and then importing them back but, apparently, they are not. Where could I find them? I have plenty of Time Machine backups, CCC clones, and documents where those styles existed so I hope you will be able to tell me how to recover them. I was hoping for a “Load TOC Styles” button but no, there is not. Thanks!
Hello, why can't I upload files to Indd when it worked fine for years. Most graphic designers and studios work with NAS devices. I can't save anything, I have to make copies and restore files. Can something be done about it? Thank you very much rh <Title renamed by MOD>
I remember asking about an issue where the buttons in a dialog box would become inactive after I changed the English word “Cancel” to the Chinese “取消.”I’ve forgotten how I resolved it, so I wanted to search my posts. I tried using: dublve Cancel OK But there are so many posts that I can’t find it…example: win.g150.bu1 = win.g150.add('button', undefined, "Process"); win.g150.bu1.preferredSize = [200, 20]; win.g150.bu2 = win.g150.add('button', undefined, "Cancel"); win.g150.bu2.preferredSize = [200, 20];Adobe’s site search has never been all that great.
When I place an image (of .tif format) with an opaque background on top of a background in InDesign, the opaque pixels of the image get some color, not showing the InDesign background. I am using InDesign CS6.Below are pictures of the Image, of the InDesign background, cand of InDesign with the image.
Hello everyoneIn a spread, I want to use the center line as a boundary to distinguish between the following two cases:A. If the object’s left edge (sb[1]) is on the left side, regardless of sb[3], the object is considered to be on the left page.B. If the object’s left edge (sb[1]) is on the right side, regardless of sb[3], the object is considered to be on the right page.My ultimate goal is to decide whether they should move to the left or to the right.Thank you.var d = app.activeDocument;var s = d.selection[0]; p = s.parentPage;var sb = s.geometricBounds;var pb = p.bounds;lm = p.marginPreferences.left;rm = p.marginPreferences.right;
I would like to formally follow up on case ADB-44827608-R1Y7 opened earlier today. As I already explained, the problem is not limited to AI-generated PNG files. The “missing link” error (gray placeholder with green stripes) also appears in designs I created four years ago that have never used any artificial intelligence images. I am attaching the two screenshots again to make this perfectly clear:Screenshot taken in InDesign 2026 of the file “ReportajeSIP Abril 2026.indd” → shows the gray/green placeholder on the placed image (page 2). The exact same section opened in Illustrator 2026 → the design appears perfect, with no link error whatsoever. I have already performed all the recommended troubleshooting steps:Complete Creative Cloud repair Preferences reset (Cmd + Option + Shift while launching) Clean reinstallation of the program Manually re-placing the images I even installed and fully tested the latest InDesign 2026 Beta, but the problem persists exactly the same. The error only
I'm designing a report that has a fair number of footnotes. Occasionally there is boxed text that needs to be designed so it appears in a shaded panel style. I've tried various ways of creating this, either as a seperate text frame with a threaded text link, or as a seperate formated text frame that I then anchor into the main flow of body text. But when this boxed content also includes some footnotes, the problem then arises that the inserted footnotes appear at the bottom of the boxed text frame, whereas I want all footnotes to appear together across the span of the page at the botom of the full page (i.e. footnotes from the main text and the boxed text to appeart at the bottom of page together). I have tried manullay adding the footnotes from the boxed text - but then any subsequent footnotes added to the mian text is wrongly numbered (it just carries on from the previous main text numbeing). If I try and manulaly override the numbers, it disappears at the bottom of t

Hi, I am struggling to set up my table and cell styles. I am trying to remove the vertical borders and preserve the top and bottom borders. I have tried every combination of cell styles, table styles, and table border setup imaginable and I can’t get the right result. I would appreciate any help. Thanks
My team produces a monthly publication using branded colors (The brand colors were chosen by others and cannot be changed or updated). The colors are defined in several profiles: Pantone Coated, Pantone Uncoated, CMYK, and RGB. When I took this job I created a indt template file that has all the CMYK colors added as swatches and have all objects and text colors set using Object and Paragraph styles from those CMYK based swatches. We recently changed the paper that our printer uses for the publication but the CMYK colors are not reproduced accurately on this paper. Is there a way to export two versions, one for each CMYK and Pantone Spot color without having to have two versions with the Styles changed? Is there a way to automate this process?
When using inDesign my artboard goes blank (gray) when disconnecting from my Apple display and often when I open my disconnected laptop to resume work in an open InDesign document. This has been happening for years on a different combination of displays and laptops so it is an Adobe issue, not a me issue. It seems lots of users have been frustrated by the same defect and it boggles my mind that Adobe has failed to fix this bug. Yes, I know I can switch to CPU Preview.. it reminds me of that old Rodney Dangerfield joke “I went to the Doctor and said - Doc, it hurts when I do this. The doctor says - don’t do that.”
I have not been able to save files from my computer to the Adobe account. Can someone help me trouble shoot please
Hi everyone,The Problem: In InDesign, I can see the icons for files shared with me, but clicking them does nothing. Occasionally, the loading cursor appears briefly, but the file never opens. Local files work perfectly. In Illustrator, I have the same issue, but it triggers an error banner: "You don't have access to this file," even though I am logged in with the exact email address used for the sharing invitation. What I've tried: Updated both apps to the latest version. Ensured no one else is currently working in the files. Verified my Adobe ID matches the invited email. Has anyone encountered this sync/permission glitch? Any advice on how to fix it?
Hi, when I prepare an InDesign file using "Share for Review" feature, the images are exported out rather low resolution / blurry as seen here:https://assets.adobe.com/id/urn:aaid:sc:US:913908ef-996f-4b5f-b99d-f730a011bda9?view=publishedThese images are quite hi-res in the original document and look fine in InDesign, but they are overly compressed when viewed in the review pane. The original source images are in PNG format.
