A realistic shadow helps your subject feel grounded in the scene. In Photoshop, there are several ways to create one, depending on your subject and lighting. Based on workflows shared by experts in the Photoshop community, we've brought together a few of the most effective techniques here. Choose the method that best fits your workflow. Method 1: Using Generative AIAI can speed up the setup, but you will still get the best results by refining the shadow yourself.Use Select Subject or Remove Background to quickly isolate your object. Use Generative Fill to extend the surface where the shadow will fall. Learn more. You can also use Harmonize. It analyzes the lighting, color, and tone of the scene, and can also generate a matching shadow to help the subject feel more naturally integrated. Learn more. Refine the generated shadow manually using one of the methods above for the most realistic result. Method 2: Drop Shadow EffectThis is the quickest way to add depth and separation to elemen
Keeping your Layers panel organized just got a whole lot easier. Layer Cleanup in Photoshop 27.6 and above automatically deletes empty layers and renames layers based on their content, so you can focus on creating, not housekeeping. With a single action from the Layers panel, Photoshop scans your document and removes blank pixel or text layers that tend to pile up during exploration. At the same time, it can intelligently rename layers, giving them clear, descriptive names that reflect what’s inside, so you no longer have to guess what “Layer 37 copy 2” contains. You’re in control of how much cleanup happens. Run it across the entire document for a full reset, or apply it only to selected layers when you want to tidy up as you go. Here is a quick tutorial demonstrating this feature. Why this mattersFaster navigation in complex files Cleaner handoffs when sharing PSDs with teammates Less friction when revisiting older projects Better layer discipline without manual effortWhether you’r

Ver. 27.9.1 (Windows 11) - When I try to edit the color of a Color Overlay Layer Style, the program freezes. I can’t click the color swatch to change it, but I can use the eyedropper to change the color. ANY other click results in a Windows chime sound saying that something is wrong. Photoshop is frozen, I can’t exit the Layer Styles editor, can’t do anything except ‘End task’ Photoshop. While typing this I also tried editing the color of a different layer Style, and as soon as I click the color swatch the same behavior results. I also used the Paintbrush (not within a Lyer Style edit, just painting on a layer) and clicked the color swatch, same thing happens - the cursor changes to the Eyedropper and every click, no matter where, sets off the Windows sound and Photoshop is totally unresponsive. Keyboard shortcuts to change the tool (V or M) do nothing, just the same Windows sound as a response. I have to force the program to shutdown, there’s no way out of this loop.
It was the same in the previous version: when converting an RGB photo to CMYK, banding appears in gradient areas. The same photo converts perfectly in Photoshop version 27.5. Orginal PS 27.9 Convert to CMYK - problem gradient PS 27.5 Convert to CMYK - gradient Ok

As an IT-Supporter it is a nightmare to simply just deploy the Adobe Suite without the ability for the user to upgrade everything and create a version-mismatch on several adobe products. Now that we have finally decided to delve into Photoshop 2026 it has come to multiple users and my attention that the remove tool as well as some, if not all other “AI-Features” are completely unusable and won’t install no matter what.Apparently it does not make a difference if Creative Cloud can recognize Adobe 2026 being installed or not but it also seems that some Creative Cloud Licensed users can not see Photoshop installed on Creative Cloud, yet Photoshop works fine with License and everything but the “AI-Features” seems to work fine.Upon reading that this is an ongoing issue for several months now I am considering going back to 2025 for Photoshop just to be absolutely certain that this new and improved version does not ruin any more features outside of the AI-Required features.
[tagged as Photoshop because couldn’t find the Animate category]When I’m drawing shapes using the Line Tool in Adobe Animate 24.0.14, while I draw lines connected with each other and reshaping them, previous random lines keep disappearing constantly. I changed back to 24.0.13 and it works normally again.
I’m using very often Auto Color (Shift-Ctrl-B) as starting point, but this is destructive edit only.I would like to have “Auto” buton on Color Balance tool, same as is for Levels etc., so I could start with auto color and then continue with Color Balance editing nondestructively.
The tab to click on and change the properties for an adjustment layer randomly disappears. Quitting and re-opening the app solves the issue, but it will happen again within minutes, usually when switching between different projects or different app on the computer. On Photoshop v26.6 - Mac Mini M4 pro, 32gb ram, 1tb ssd. Any help would be appreciated! ss
Hello Adobe team,I am reporting an issue with Photoshop 27.7 on Windows 11 where the new Remove Tool on-device generative AI model cannot be enabled on an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080.The “Device” option remains greyed out, even though all documented requirements appear to be met.SYSTEM SUMMARYPhotoshop version: Adobe Photoshop 2026 / 27.7Operating system: Windows 11GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080VRAM: approximately 16 GBDirectX: DirectX 12 / DirectX 12.2 availableNVIDIA driver: current and newer than Adobe’s stated minimum requirementPhotoshop GPU acceleration: enabledPhotoshop GPU status: GPU is detected and allowedAvailable disk space: sufficientThe GPU is usable for normal Photoshop GPU acceleration. The important detail is that Photoshop appears to detect and use the RTX 5080 for general GPU acceleration, but in the system information / GPU identification path the card is shown as:NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080 UNKNOWNThis strongly suggests that the issue is not general GPU acceleration, but the
Hello Adobe Community and experts,I’ve recently encountered a severe and puzzling issue with text rendering and export in Photoshop 2025 and 2026, which was not present before.Text becomes noticeably blurry and pixelated, both in the preview window and in the final exported/saved files (Export/Save As). This occurs regardless of the document’s resolution being set to 300 PPI or 72 PPI.The most peculiar aspect is the difference in behavior based on document units:Documents created with Centimeters (CM) as the unit (e.g., from Print presets) exhibit perfectly clear and sharp text. However, documents created with Pixels (PX) as the unit suffer from this text blurriness and pixelation. This issue started occurring only very recently (within the last few days) and was not an issue with previously created pixel-based files in the same Photoshop versions.Troubleshooting Steps Attempted (That Did Not Resolve the Issue):I have already tried several common troubleshooting steps without success:Ch
# Generative Upscale returns solid black layer — Desktop only, Web works## SummaryGenerative Upscale in Photoshop 27.9.1 (macOS) always produces a solid black pixellayer*with a white layer mask. The "Original" layer is fine. Affects all models(Firefly Upscaler, Topaz Gigapixel, Bloom). The exact same account, image and scale factor works correctly onphotoshop.adobe.com — so the cloud service, the account and the generative creditsare demonstrably fine. The defect is in the desktop application.Generative Fill works perfectly in the same desktop app (both Firefly and NanoBanana). Only Generative Upscale is broken. The relevant difference: Generative Fillworks inside the existing document, Generative Upscale creates a **new document**.## Environment| | ||---|---|| Photoshop | 27.9.1 — build 20260803.r.1 65900e1 || macOS | 26.3 (build 25D125) || Hardware | MacBook Pro, Apple M2 Pro, 19 GPU cores || GPU | Metal 4, 12.713 MB GPU-accessible RAM || Displays | tested on built-in XDR, LG, Dell —
After the last update 27.4, Photoshop freezes when trying to change the size or hardness of the brush. It only helped to switch back to the previous version 27.3.1 There are no errors when the program freezes, and if you minimize the application and expand it, it will restore. But the brush settings won't change, and if you try to change them again, Photoshop freezes again.
At first I thought it was due to the latest update, but after a tip to install an older version, I still couldn't open a file. I use macOS 15.7.9

My wife has been using CS5 on her Windows 10 desktop - unfortunately the desktop was "damaged" in a hose move and she now has a new Windows 11 desktop. Can we load her CS5 software from the original CD onto the new windows 11 desktop? Will CS5 work with the new desktop? Yes I know that CS5 is ancient but she's been using it for about a dozen years and is very happy with it. Also she really doesn't want to learn a new version or pay a monthly fee to Adobe as she doesn't use Photoshop enough to warrant that. Any advice or suggestions would be welcome.
