After Effects

Hi everyone, I have been having this issue with after effects that has confused my professors and I. I will be editing on the app and eventually the preview panel will freeze. Not only on the frame but when I try to start the preview it will go forward a frame and stop. Even when I switch to a different composition it will only show that frame and nothing else. When I do try to edit anyways I can’t see the edits I am making but when I come back to the project they are still there. On top of this I tried starting a completely new project without restarting after effects and even though the composition is blank it still shows the frame from my previous project. I purged my cache, restarted after effects and my computer, reset preferences, and tried uninstalling and reinstalling the current version along with the one directly prior, I also have tried changing my drivers and that hasn’t worked. I have brought a new laptop, new MSI Stealth A16 - 5090 RTX, AMD Ryzen 9hx. For some reason when using after effects for just a minuet, the compositon will free, cant zoom, nothing updates. but the app contiunes working, I can add layers, add effects, delete, import.. but the compsiton freezes and I can see the zoom going up and down but nothing in the viewport changes, add new solid, nothing changes in the viewport.  After effects 2025 25.3.2Windows I have tried all the recommendations:Clearing cacheram allocation disable gpu accelerationupdating driversvideo rending and effects multiframe rendering off Its a brand new laptop, any ideas? 

When setting Loop to a value greater than 2 under Interpret Footage > Other Options, it appears that the cache does not behave correctly from the second loop onward.If I duplicate the same footage as multiple layers in a composition and place them sequentially, the timeline clearly shows that the second and subsequent layers are cached as expected.However, when using the Loop option, the footage seems to be treated as one very long single clip, and it appears that playback triggers reloading even in the second and subsequent loops.This feature is very useful for cases such as overlay textures, so I would like the cache to work correctly when looping footage via Interpret Footage.Duplicate layersLoop 100 

After installing AE 2026. The application opens but then freezes. ALL UI panels present has white and the dark mode gradually appears. When any click is attempted the application freezes. Requiring a re-boot to clear. I’m running a Yoga 9i Pro with an RTX 4070 Laptop GPU. STUDIO DRIVERWith Microsoft warning the Jan-26 patch Tuesday “2026-01 Security Update (KB5074109) (26200.7623)” has caused widespread user issues. I suspect this may be the smoking gun?Has any community experienced similar performance issues? And are there any work aroundsAE 2025 works just fine.Regards Leicester48

Hoje eu estava editando um video no After Effects, e aconteceu o seguinte erro: "Aviso do After Effects: formato incorreto ou ilegível", isso se deu depois que eu reiniciei o computador para a atualização do Windows Update, após esse erro, tentei restaurar o computador para um horário antes da atualização! Assim fiz, e o problema ainda persistiu, não sei mais o que fazer, já olhei diversos videos no youtube e não tem nenhuma solução para esse tipo de problema, alguém poderia comentar a respeito, se tem como recuperar o arquivo ou eu posso abandonar?!

After effect version 25.4.0 After importing a sequence of exr images that were used as a black and white mask for rotoscoping, the silhouette was offset or cut off completely. After refreshing the composition and sequence, these offsets randomly appear in other places. I checked in the program "nuke" and there was no problem with these exr.

After Effects refuses to consolidate duplicate assets that share an identical file path.In Premiere Pro, I use the "Replace with After Effects Composition" command to send clips to a new project. This process automatically places the media at the root level of the After Effects Project Panel. At the end of the project, I need the assets in After Effects to match the organization I have in Windows Explorer so I manually import my Footage and Images folders from my hard drive into the project. This results in two versions of lots of different files. One version is the asset sent from Premiere Pro at the root level, and the second version is the one nested within my imported folder structure. Both versions point to the exact same file path on my disk and share identical interpretation settings. Scrolling font list is very slow with mouse wheel. One mouse roll equals the movement of few pixels compared to other scrollable items like Project items list for example. Please fix this.

For the past few months I've been trying to talk to support about this issue because I'm unable to use any version of AE past 2025.1 Something is really wrong with the color management for HDR projects when sending them to Media encoder. I've had tech support remotely connect to my computer to try and figure out (like disabling all my plugins which of course didn't work, the issue is internal to AE/ME themselves). Every time the beta versions get updated I download them and check to see if it's finally fixed and nope. I am still waiting for responses from higher levels of support and honestly this is pretty frustrating.Even 2025.1 isn't working 100% like when I import h.265 HLG project the image is interpreted way brighter than it should be. Has the option to remove the Tips of the Day when loading into the latest version of After Effects (25.6.4 Build 3) been removed? It's not listed anymore in the usual spot in the Preferences > Start Up and Repair. Screenshots attached.  

Lets start with something I found regarding these issues.So, I have found there are sort of 3 levels to these crashes I have been having. Level 1: the preview screen just freezes and wont work again at all, then I have to close the program and open it again. Level 2: The whole program freezes goes blank and then either closes or just stays loading with a kinf of blank page and I am not able to even close it, so I'll have to either just open another window of After Effects and continue my work from there while the other stays there (that is if the new window doesnt crash either). Level 3: The whole program crashes and even after closing it won't open back up again so I'll have to restart my computer altogether to continue with my work. What Cases the Crashes? I've been using After Effects for about 5-6 years now, but I only started facing this problem very recently. Essentially, the colors on my After Effects projects become washed out post-rendering, though it looks fine in the project file.Now I know a post discussing this issue already exists, and that this is a very common problem, with typically a quick-fix, however, I have tried to re-interpret the footage, change the bit-depth and color engine settings, enabled and disabled color management, altered my render settings to match my output, and tried various Working Color Space settings, including ones that match my footage and correct the coloring while in the project file, but as soon as I render, it automatically washes out the colors, and increases the exposure dramatically. I contacted an Adobe After Effects agent via the help tab on the Creative Cloud app, who described himself as a "Adobe After Effects expert", however after taking control of my monitor, he essentially did t

when i try opening after effects it doesn't open. a window opens saying unknown exception. then another one opens and this one says something about the permissions. but i checked the permissions and it says "read & write" which should be fine. What is the problem?   

Bonjour !Je suis entrain de faire un motion design sur after effects et je rencontre un problème avec les calques d'effets. J'ai avancé sur mon projet, et je voudrais juste ajouter un flou gaussien au début..Mais dès que je met le calque sur la timeline (sans effet) les calques qui se trouvent en dessous disparaisent avant la fin de leur mouvement (vidéo à l'appuie) Est-ce que vous auriez une solutions, j'ai essayé de relier le calque à un objet nul, de le mettre en 3D. Rien ne change et je ne peux pas précomposer sans que ça détruisse tous mon travail.

I'm running AE 25.6.4, with copyright 2026, so I presume this is where my masks do not work.  Restarted, shut down restarted, gave it overnight - masks just do not work. I'll see if I can go back to the previous version of AE 2025.  Tried AE 2026 of course, but it repeatedly froze in places during render ... things that had rendered fine in AE 2025.  2026 froze rendering different comps in different projects, so I can't use that yet. I'm running a Mac Studio M4 with maxed out everything, new but haven't had any problems with anything else.

Hi, I'm having constant issues with preview playback of cached frames.I have i9 13900 Intel cpu with 128 GB RAM and fast SSD for storage and separate SSD for cache.When palying a preview with sound the playback slowdowns and shutters very often even the frames are cached. What's more frustrating when changing the sound layer eg. its volume, cache is gone and it rebuilds itself again. 

Wenn ich After Effects 2026 - Windows 11 in mein Projekt gehe, -mein Video, bzw. die Vorschau abspielen möchte, wird mit dem drücken der Leertaste, das Hand symbol kurz aktiviert. Bzw. das Hand Symbol erscheint so lange, wie ich die Leertaste drücke.  Ich möchte das ändern, aber weiß nicht wie, ich bitte um Hilfe. Die Hand ist in den Tastaturbefehlen normal auf H, und die Leertaste ist auch normal auf Vorschau abspielen, trotzdem wird die Hand dann angezeit.

The preview won't play. I've tried adjusting the audio hardware settings, but it still doesn't work. It won't play even in Safe Mode or after removing all plugins. Hi everyone,I’m having an issue where After Effects won’t launch properly.Every time I open it, the Crash Repair dialog appears.No matter which option I choose: Start in Safe Mode, Reset Preferences, Manage Plugins, or Continue, After Effects still fails to launch. When I try to launch After Effects, I can see it appear in Task Manager for about 5 seconds, then it disappears without fully opening.I’ve already tried:Running After Effects as AdministratorUninstalling and reinstalling After Effects multiple timesRestarting my laptopUnfortunately, none of these solved the problem.I’m currently on Windows 11 (AMD laptop).Has anyone experienced this before or knows what else I can try?Any help would be greatly appreciated.
