During playback, the Current time indicator is not moving. It moves a bit and then freezes. I'm not sure if it's relevant, but I'm using a new Intel PC with plenty of ram (64 GB). My other PC is an AMD and doesn't have this issue. Is this a known bug? The only solution I've found from others involves reinstalling Windows. I'd prefer to avoid that.

Hi everyone,We've noticed a weird RAM behavior in After Effects 2020 (17.5.1 - Build 47) and Media Encoder (14.0.1 - Build 70). When closing and opening a project multiple times, After Effects’ RAM usage is continuously growing especially when the project contains expressions (even the simplest one). Closing the project and purging memory (and Disk Cache) do not reduce the RAM usage! The only way to make the RAM usage drop seem to be closing After Effects! The same problem exists when sending these projects to Media Encoder. The RAM, used by the After Effects sub process under the Media Encoder main process, continually grows and does not drop even when the rendering process is complete.We already know that expressions can be RAM consuming but the fact the RAM is not freed after the project is closed seems not normal.We tried to reduce the case to the simplest situation and made a benchmark. I can replicate this on two Macs (core i9 and M1 Max) running Sequioa 15.2 and AE 25.1. Happens when the Camera RAW dialog either opens or closes. Replicate by importing or adjusting a Cinema DNG sequence in a project. It will freeze either when attempting to open the ACR window or when closing it. It does not occur on my Windows 10 machine.

Hey there,I'm having trouble with a font that has gradients in it (color to transparency) that displays correctly in Illustrator, Première, but in After effects it's full white. - I tried removing the font from font book- wiped the font cache in terminal- tried on my other mac with same result It displays correctly in the Character menu though. Is it a bug in after effects ?Photos attached

The range of values in 16bit integer is 65536 but when AE is set to 16bit the values in the inspector only go up to 32768 which is 15bit. Also the Levels effect show this 15bit as max value.   I find it hard to test and verify if files are also written with 15bit precision but regardless, I do not understand the reason why AE shows 15bit inside the software. It's technically wrong.   Can I get some clarity on this?

Since v25, active text edit fields are truncated in the essential graphics panel.1. create text layer2. drag text>source text to the essential graphics panel for mogrt authoring.3. click on the edit field for the source text in the essential graphics panelresult:  As soon as you are editing the text string, only ~14 characters are displayed.  No edit cusor is displayed.Windows 11 pro versio 10.0.26100, After Effects v25.1.0 build 68It's annoying.  Workaround is composing your text string in notepad, then copy/paste.

In v25, whenever the Properties Panel appears, usually when I least want it to, it bogs down my system. It's like a ton of bricks just got loaded onto the back of geriatric AE. 

Ok this is a completely new one for me, and from what I found online, no one has really experienced this same issue. A couple of days ago I was going to start on a new project. I had some existing assets from an old project file I wanted, so I copy and pasted a version of my old project into a new folder. I realized this was not the correct file, so I deleted it, found the correct one I was looking for, and started working on my project from there. Fast forward two days of working later, and I go to open my project, only to find that it's the project file I originally copy and pasted, then deleted, from multiple days ago. It has the same name as what I've been working on the past few days, but all the content is from the afforementioned project. When checking the properties of the file, it says it was last modified September 2024, even though I literally made changes to it and saved less than an hour ago. It's as if my past two days of work just reverted back in time out of thing air.

Good morning AE Support community, So yesterday I updated my AE App and before that AE worked smoothly and perfectly and after it was slow and laggy so I shut down my computer for the rest of the night and when I woke up it was fine for a mintue but then it gave me an error saying that  "After Effects warning: Cant use the Roto Brush tool because the "Paint" effect plugin is missing. You may need to reinstall."So now its back to being slow and laggy as a sloth and I think its because of the Retro Brush Tool and I need to use for a school assignment and it was working really well before the update so I would really like to fix this Immediately so I can get this assignment done as well as my other assingments that I have for this semester so ANY solutions that ANYONE has for this issue would be great and PLEASE share them with me immediately Thank you so much in advance,-VeVeGirl

Yesterday I started having problems with the latest version of After Effects. I can't work at all because just by setting 2 or 3 layers in my work line, the program uses almost 100% of my RAM and a warning appears on the screen. The computer crashes and sometimes I have to RESTART so I can continue using it.I don't know how to solve this problem. I've tried downloading all the other versions before this one (up to 2024) and the problems continue in the same way.My configuration isi5 10400fRTX 306032gb ram ddr4 3200mhzI NEED help. I have a lot of work to deliver and I'm unable to work.

Is it just me? (don't seem to see anyone else reporting this online) I've started getting a fairly disruptive error when sending projects to be rendered, from After Effects to Media Encoder. Software is up to date, Hardware is only a couple of years old.There's a mustard coloured 'warning' label in the Title line entry on Media Encoder. On hovering over it, it mentions missing video media (MXFs). These are the videos that I'm using in the project, saved locally, in the same folder as the project. I have not changed my working practises or workflow arrangements for the last few years. This started happening a few weeks back. I've now started rendering directly from AE, lossless, to a watch folder that Media Encoder then detects after completion and rerenders into the required format for my organisation. This is obviously not optimal, and fairly annoying. Anyone else encountering this and/or have actual, verified solutions? Thanks in advance 

Been using AE since it was in BETA!  I don't have H.264 videos I have many ProRes 4444 files.. my project file is over 600MB, as it normally is with heavy VFX work, but in v2024 it saved in seconds, but 2025, it's bogged down to a joke.. it's literally like the computer freezes and eventually unlocks and finishes saving.. This makes the auto save every 15min a hellscape because right as youre working, the thing stops randomly to save and you lose your train of thought as to where you were because you wait so long for it to save!!!  This is a JOKE!!  what did you guys do to screw up such a basic operation ?? When will there be a fix.. this is an ADOBE issue straight up. Im having a error when I opening my AE project file in AE 24.6. It says, This project contains a reference to a missing effect. Please install the following effect to restore this reference. "Auto Levels". In the Animation Presets, Auto Levels is listed as missing. But when I go to the Plugins folder the AutoLevels.plugin is there. Previously I had assigned Auto Levels to a layer but I deleted it because AE said it had an error. I have checked every layer and Auto Levels is not there. I have re-saved this project to open in AE 22 and AE 25 and Auto Levels error message doesnt come up. It is ONLY in AE 24.6. I figured this is a bug in 24.6 and I wanted to report it. Ive used 24.6 for awhile now. So I can either flatten my footage layers in 24.6 and delete the problematic footage and save it as a new 24.6 file -OR; just work in AE 25 which my team doesnt work in yet. Can this bug be fixed?

In general Advanced Spill Supressor works in 32 bit just fine. Also the standard mode works normaly in all cases. The poblem is with Ultra mode. It works on pixels whose all channel values are below 1, but as soon as the value goes above 1 it just stops working. Like if you want to remove green spill, it works for all pixels that have a green value below 1, but pixels that have a higher value (which is common now that we work in ACES) just stay green - nothing is happening to them. The workaround we're using is just temporalily bring these values down, so clamp Advanced Spill Supressor between two Levels operations, first darkens the image, second brings it right back up.

For editing timelapses I always load a sequence of DNG files, then export it through Adobe Media encoder in a ProRes video clip Lately I've not managed to do any export. When I start rotobrushing my object and press freeze, it starts making weird waves. When I go frame by frame then I have delete the waves and roto the object agina and again. can someone help me fix the issue. Please. I added the video also where I show the issue.

After effects keeps crashing on startup. Older versions wont work, re-setting prefrences wont work, removing plugins wont work, i have tried everything i could to make this work but it still keeps crashing. I have tried re installing after effects, did a complete reinstall of the creative cloud app, went to the directory this error shows and tried to find abnormalities in it but NOTHING IS WORKING. I have assignments to submit. Someone please help me please.

For a while now, After Effects has been loading up to 99%, and then crashing whenever I open a project. Normally, I just keep trying and eventually it works. This issue persists across every single project. However, today, this one project refuses to open and hits me with a new error 'Illegal Command Sequence', which takes loads of tries to close the pop-up window, and then it's followed by multiple 'Layer does not have a source' error messages. I can open the project on another computer, which is strange. I opened it up and Reduced the project (from 75MB to 25MB in size), but this hasn't helped.Does anyone have a solution for either of these errors? I have tried:• Removing plug-ins (from ScriptUI Panels folder)• Starting in Safe Mode• Reduced the project• Cleared all Cache• Importing the project into a new, empty AE project• Opening from 'File > Open...' Computer specs:• Mac Studio M1 Max• 64GB RAM• MacOS: macOS Sequoia 15.0.1• Assets are stored on an external SSD Ha

If I select a mask on a layer by double clicking it, then try and move the mask with my mouse the mode of the mask cycles through each option (Add, Subtract, Intersect etc.) until the mouse is released. If I move the mask with the arrow keys on the keyboard it does not do this.I am not using a tablet and have not noticed this before. I am on Windows 11 Pro 24H2 build 26100.3194using after effects 25.1.0 build 68 I have uploaded a video starting off with an empty project to show that this is repeatable.  

I was trying to render my composition using aerender earlier, but encountered some errors. I've come across a few issues that are making AE crash. It is constantly locking up and crashing with just the bare minimum of me bringing in a single 422 hq movie and trying to get it to playback or when I try to purge the cache.  When I start in Safe mode it seems to work fine. Might be a plug-in issue bug (not using any) or corrupt preferences (did not change anything). I was able to work on things that didn't have mov files. Started crashing just trying to clear the cache.  Attached are the log files for the crash. I have also restarted my machine twice just to check. AE 24 is working fine with the same single files.
