Does anyone know of some good tutorials for InDesign that are geared to FrameMaker users? Links would be sincerely appreciated!
My current TOC shows three levels; I only want to show levels 1 and 2. Is there a way to change it (reference page?) without having to reformat a new TOC? Thanks!
Does anyone have any idea when FrameMaker will support ARM processors?
We have a number of separate training manuals (FM books) that we want to consolidate into a single manual (FM Book). To identify where each manual starts, we want to add some sort of "Section Heading". I tried using Groups, but can't seem to include the Group Title in the generated Table of Content. I tried using Folders, but then the <$chapnum> system variable (used for the chapter numbers each manual) isn't updating (Chapter is disabled in the Numbering Properties). I did notice that Section is enabled in the Numbering Properties when I have Folders, but the Chapter number is still disabled. I tried the FM Help file, but, like most Help files, it doesn't tell you really anything useful. Short of adding a 'dummy' FM file before the first chapter in each manual with the "Section Heading", is there another, better way to achieve this? This is what I'm trying achive:FM Book:Generated TOC:
I have the building block to to increment in each "chapter". But I need to move the chapters around. My first chapter block is S:<n=1>.<0>< =0>\t, and the next is S:<n=2>.<0>< =0>\t and so on.I am using 1 Heading style instead of a chapter style. Any way to automate it so I do not have to change the "n=?" numbering manually for each file?
Hi All. Using FrameMaker 16.0.4 on Windows 10. I'm currently having an issue with cross references when I generate HTML5 topics. As an example, I have an FM file with multiple H1s and H2s, along with cross references between those headings. When I generate HTML5, H1s and H2s get split into separate HTML topics (as defined in the Publish settings). On themost part this works without any issues, however if I have a H1 or H2 that uses one or commas in the title, the cross reference pojnts the "wrong" filename and shows as a broken link in the HTML. For example, a H2 with the title "Components, Capacity, and Resiliency" generates the file "Components__44__Capacity__44__and_Resiliency.htm" - the TOC uses the correct file reference, but cross references use "Components,_Capacity,_and_Resiliency.htm". Any ideas on how I can resolve this?
I have some UI suggestions on the Adobe Tracker. Recently I got these messages: Issue - https://tracker.adobe.com/#/view/FRMAKER-12708 Version updated to 'FM2022' Version updated from 'FM20222' to an empty value Issue - https://tracker.adobe.com/#/view/FRMAKER-12617 Version updated to 'FM2022' Version updated from 'FM20222' to an empty value But what do they mean? I would expect @Winfried Reng to have recieved one as well, as he has commented on one of the suggestions...What is an "empty value" in this respect?
Hi, I am in the midst of trying to format the TOC for a book. I am able to get a L1 HeadTOC entries to look the way I want, but the Chapter TitleTOC and remaining chapter names and L1Head- Same PageTOC aren't changing. What am I missing?I am including screenshots of the Reference page and the TOC. Thank you.Cheers,Elizabeth
I have a client who has an enormous amount of documentation in FM2022. Recently we have started getting this error message when we try to print a book. When we do a "Save as PDF" and have Distiller on, things seem to work better, but not always. When we print to Adobe PDF FM invariably quits the process with this message. I have tried supplying every thinkable version of Courier - makes no change. I have tried making a folder with Courier fonts and haves set them to always embed in Distiller - makes no change. I have tried different variations in PDF settings with rely on systems fonts or not - makes no change. I have looked into the maker.ini - and I suspect this is where the culprit is, but I can't figure out what to change. It looks ok regarding the renaming of Courier. But then again - I may be wrong. Does anybody here have a suggestion as to where to look?.. -Bjørn
I have a TOC that has leader lines before and after the section title at level 1 (3 sections only) and at level 2 (one section only). I have checked the TOC in the Reference page and the numbering format for each section in the book. I found no extra spaces in the Reference page section definitions or the section titles in the body of the manual. The selected styles are the same for the good and bad heading in the TOC. I also looked for a possible random charater style in the title lines but nothing there either. Ideas?
Is anyone having publishing to PDF. When I try publishing to PDF I get a very small print in the center of the page. Has anyone else seen this and found a fix.
Hi. A lot of my FrameMaker work includes Gujarati text. Exporting them to PDF worked fine up to FM 2017. But in the new FM, the Gujarati comes out haywire. Help?
My company has requested a new template of table to use where the outside edges of the table is a thin black line, and the rows are separated by a thin black line. However, the rulings for the rows should stop short of intersecting with the outside edges of the table. Is there a way to implement this in Framemaker without a cumbersome workaround?
Hello,I've been looking for the "Adobe FrameMaker DITA Applications for Documentum" to download, but I couldn't find where I can get it.Is it still avaliable somewhere? Thanks for any information.
I'm working on a book. When I open it and run a bookwide script I get an error on one chapter (Atch 5) because there is no insertion point in the chapter. Additionally, Atch 5 current pg no. shows -1. If I click on the attachment, an insertion point appears and the page number updates to pg 1. I've saved it and open it again, everything is fine. If I close all the files of the book and reopen the book, the problem reoccurs. I searched the forum and read article "Chapter Numbering Broken - 1 Book File Only," but nothing it suggested seems to work. When I open numbering properties, the Pg# is set to 1 and in Paragraph Designer, number format is "A:ATTACHMENT <$chapnum>" like all the other attachemens. What am I missing?
In my strucutured document, I have a ChapterTitle element with conditional formatting:If the 'ChapterType' Attribute = "Prologue", the Autonumbering is "Prologue".If the 'ChapterType' Attribute = "Epilogue", the Autonumbering is "Epilogue".If the 'ChapterType' Attribute = "Chapter", the Autonumbering is "Chapter <$Chapnum>".These are working as expected in the document. However, when I generate the Table of Content, the Autonumbering isn't picked up - I only get the page number:When I look at the Reference Page, it has the following:This makes sense as there isn't any actual text against the element. What I'm actually after is something like this:I am stumpped as to how to achive this. Replacing <$elemtextonly> with Chapter <$chapnum> works fine for those documents where the ChapterType Attribute = Chapter, but not for the others. How do I have the TOC pick up the full autonumbering text?
Hi,I am in the process of finalizing a TOC for a book I'm working on. The TOC is complete but the Table of Contents header at the top of the page is missing. The TOC Head entry is available when I view Master pages. How do I get that TOC Head to appear on the TOC page? Thank you for any help.Elizabeth
Hello everybody,I'm trying to create expanding text in Frame 2022 for the first time and it's not working for me.For the caption and body of the expanding text, 2 charrtacter formats have been created and applied.I've selected the DHTML effect option of Expanding Text. When I publish to HTML5, the caption and body are both visible (see screen shot). When I click the icon, the only thing that happens, is that the plus icon changes into a minus icon and that's it.See the attached screen shots for details. Can anybody shed some light on what is going on please? Thanks in advance for your feedback. Regards, Carel.
After years of creating and updating the Enhanced Tool Bars I feel the time ready to develop a utility. Although this could be a script running in FM I envision an external utility: All necessary data can be accessed without FM processes (*.ini,*. xml). I will use AutoHotKey for the script. This can be compiled so that a used do not need to have AHK installed. Envisioned UI There may be multiple FM versions installed, hence a first step will define where to build the TB. Toolbar entries can be collected from existing tool bars: here we have all necessary data available. More challenging will be to work from the commands: The icons are in DLLs and their names are not harmonised with the command names. The icons can come from various dlls... Major obstacles Icons for the built in tool bars are located in dll’s. Hence they must be extracted for the use in the utility. This can be done with ResourceHacker (legally, since FM is not modified). Placing the icons in the UI. Others
I need to put some text boxes in the flow of my manual. This box will have instructions and it shold move when I add text to the main document. I know this should work, I just can't remember how to do it.
Hi,I am in the midst of trying to update a cover page that I have copied from another book. My plan is to rename the title and other information, and add it to the book I am putting together. So far I am unable to access the title in the cover page. I am including two screenshots to try and illustrate what I have. The screen titled 'Python cover page' is what I currently see when I click Body Pages. The second screen, 'Page in Master without title' shows what I see when I click Master Pages. I believe the three lines of text are variables that have been added to the cover page. Is there a way I can edit the text?Any help would be great! Thank you.Elizabeth
I am publishing a large FrameMaker 2019 book as Responsive HTML5 using the Indigo skin. I want to make some changes to the template, but cannot figure out where to make the changes. I want to change: The "Welcome to Our Help Center" headerThe "What can we help you with today?" subheadChoose different icons for each of the topicsUpdate the copyright notice at the bottom I have RoboHelp 2019, but want to try and make it work to publish directly from FM if at all possible. Converting from FM to RH and then publishing would be a monumental headache, especially since I am not the only person who edits this document.
I have some loose text frames which are not part of the main text flow. These text frames holds tables with table footnotes. I need to have the table footnotes to start at a specific number. I can't use the books numbering properties. I would expect it was possible to force a specific number as the first but can't figure out where?
I have a FM 2022 document with two columns. Each column is a separate text flow, so I have text flow A and text flow B. Two columns - two languages. When I generate a standalone TOC I would ideally like FrameMaker to generate two TOC's. The TOC has the same page layout as the chapters. So two columns with a toc in each column. But I can't figure out how to make FrameMaker generate a toc in each column. FM insists on putting all headings in ONE column. Which is what I kind of expected, but can it be done the way I want? Having FM separate the two toc's?
Does anyone know how to publish a Framemaker Book as an ePub file with fixed layout. I see how to do it if I don't require fixed layout. Of course, I can save as a PDF, but I don't see how that helps me. It's 400 pages with about 400 photos. I dont see how I can use ID.Any help would be greatly appreciated.Carl
