InDesign

I'm a photographer and primarily use Photoshop and Lightroom. I've used InDesign since its first release (and Pagemaker before then) so I'm not a total newbie. I primarily use InDesign to custom-print promos from my Canon PRO-1000 printer. It's been a good 9-10 months since I printed anything. The past couple of days I've been working on some new promo pieces with InDesign 2024. I updated my Windows 11 probably about two or three months ago to the most recent build. I was surprised when I went to print the promo piece. Instead of bringing up the usual interface, there's a brand new one. Though I had chosen my Canon printer in InDesign, the Windows print interface still showed my default printer, my Ricoh laser.  Through that interface, I had to reach the Canon printer driver. I adjusted my settings as needed and printed.  I didn't like the results, so I hit CTRL-P again, and the Windows print had reverted back to the laser printer. As a result, I had to reselect the

When I open the Place Dialog Box of InDesign 2025 and type into the search field, the search parameters automatically switch from the selected folder location (see screen shot: Place dialog box_1) to "searching... This Mac" (see screen shot: Place dialog box_2). Is there a way to set up or lock the search parameters of the Place Dialog Box? This worked when I was using a PC, but on my Mac (OS Sequoia Version 15.4.1) it no longer works. Thank you in advance.  

With the help of Grok, I wrote a small script to convert CIE Lch to CIE Lab and store the result in the Swatches palette.  Adobe has never wanted to support CIE Lch in any of their applications. Yet, I find it invaluable, especially for teaching color concepts. The code is available here :Convert CIE Lch to CIE Lab (with Debug code 2025 06 18).zip I left the debug information in the file in case it helps anyone.You don't have to remove it to execute the script.

Hello, We are trying to export a book of almost 7000 pages, this one is divided in 24 indd, the thing is, when is time to export the book:book.exportFile (ExportFormat.PDF_TYPE, {filePath}); It takes 25+ hours, so i am not sure if this is normal behavior or if its something needed to improve this exportation time.

I found a certified adobe instructor that is asking $150 for an hour of live instruction, she's going to help me edit my novel which is currently in pdf form.  She can upload my pdf into her computer and show me how to edit and export on my computer over ZoomThe reason I need to do this is my original formatter has gone missing, and I need to learn how to use Indesign for the specific task of editing it.   If this is too much or not ideal, where can I find live instruciton for something like this?

Hi please can you help with the second to last action before I approve the proof of my uploaded Amazon KDP book. I want to move the photo you can see on p126 below to p128 but for the first time of me using InDesign I can’t select the photo and/or caption to move it. It isn’t anchored. The layer isn’t locked. I have tried the direct selection tool and the black selection tool but all I can select is the whole text frame. I closed and restarted Indesign. If I click the photo’s page number in the links panel, it allows me to delete the photo itself but not the caption or the frame surrounding it, (ie. the frame I created using stroke). I can’t ungroup the photo and caption. As mentioned, I can’t release anchor as there isn’t one. It isn’t on as master page. I’ve tried other google solutions but nothing works. I’m sure it’s a simple fix. Please first see the screenshot below showing the threads then a links panel screenshot.     Layer screenshot   

Bonjour, Sur indesign, la barre des tâches en arrière-plan tourne sans arrêt, avec "Ajout de police".  Je ne comprends pas ce qu'il se passe. Mon fichier Indesign bug et je ne peux plus ajouter des typo via Adobe Font.  J'ai déjà quitté Indesign de force, supprimé l'application, me suis déconnecté et redémarré mon ordi. (je suis sur mac).  Merci d'avance pour votre aide ! 

Hi, I have designed a cover and spine for my Amazon KDP book. Screenshot below. You can see in the screenshot that the full size is 12.57 x 9.25 in which Amazon wants. But when I upload it to KDP, it says the file submitted is only 12.338 x 9.000 in. I contacted KDP help and they said that the size of my book is changing on the transfer from InDesign to PDF. Do you know how to fix this please?  This is my document setup which is where I might be going wrong. The margins and bleed are correctly set to KDP's requirements for this size.   Here’s what KDP previewer shows     

From what I know, this is a magazine production planning solution, and if anyone has experience with integrating Ad Orbit / MagBuilder with InDesign via plugin, I am looking for your thoughts and comments. TIA

Does anybody know how to create a leader with an elbow, something like this: 

For as long as I've used InDesign, shift+return has been a soft line break. It still is on my work computer, a PC laptop. On my mac at home though, it shift+return enters a page break. The only way I can figure out how to do soft line breaks is to do a funky combination like "++" find and replace it with a soft line break, and then copy and paste them from there on out.Is there a way to correct this?

Hello guys I've a problem with an exported file. InDesign have changed the cmyk values of an imported PDF I recorded a video here to explain the various step that I madehttps://www.loom.com/share/a4db5431aab149e28f1a9396af739457 As you can see in the final exported file the cmyk values of "warm grey" spot color has changed, so when I converted into CMYK the final print result it was different.I also attached the files. I don't understand why InDesign do that.... Any idea?Best 

Hi,I'm having a specific issue with a caption generation script in InDesign 2025 v20.4. The script can read image descriptions but not credit lines.My situation: Claude wrote me a "Better Captions" script that automatically generates captions from image metadata (credit lines and descriptions) — then styles and sizes them properly, saving lots of extra steps. It's suddenly not reading the credit tag. The images definitely contain the metadata - I can verify this by going to Object > Captions > Generate Static Caption which works perfectly and creates the caption I expect. I can also see using the Links panel > XMP File Info... > Raw Data that the <photoshop:Credit> tag. All my metadata is created in Bridge, which I also just updated today What's working:Description extraction via ExtendScript (dc:description) - works fineUI caption generation (Object > Captions > Generate Static Caption) - sees both credit and description perfectly What's broken:C

HiI'm experimenting with Indesign, trying to use the data merge toolI have a CSV file with multiple records, with each row being a unique product and each product having SKU, description, price etcI want to merge this information into a table in Indesign with each row being unique. However when I try it it just duplicates the first row of the CSV file into every row on the Indesign tableIs there a way to make each row in indesign use a specific row in the csv?

There are example scripts that come with InDesign that create dialogs, but I can't find any documentation on the methods and members available when creating them. Hi, Everywhere in my text there is a numbers 1:1, 1:2, 1:3 to 999:1, 999:2, 999:999The text in the picture is BOLD, but i already removed this. Which means that the text is normal like the other one I want to remove every text before the colon (:) for example:Every _1:1_ to become _1_Every _99:99_ to become _99_I want with one search to catch all single numbers, double numbers, and triple numbers before the colon and remove them, plus the colon in front of them.And every single number, double and triple numbers, after the colon to stay One very important thing. there is a lot of other numbers in the file and i need to selec only this numbers where have colon in front of them (single numbers, double numbers, and triple numbers)

Hi! When I copy text from a Word document into my InDesign document, I manage to keep the external hyperlinks (such as URLs) and text formats (blod, italic), which I want, but the problem is that it also seems to keep some kind of trace of the hyperlinks that where linked to other part of the word doc (such as clicking on "Part whatever" would take you to the actual Part whatever in the word doc. I do not want those in my InDesign doc, as I'm going to rebuild this (or not) later. Problem is that once the text containing such hyperlinked is copied, not only they obviously don't work anymore, but there's no option to add an hyperlink to it myslef if I want to later. I hope this is making sense to someone, my doc is 150 pages long and I'm in a bit of a rush so can't waste too long on this... Hi,I have one more problem and i need GREP to help me.I have document witn more that 760 pages and everywhere there is a number in brakets [1], [2], [3]I want to select them all and remove the brakets and the space around it.For example from _[_1_]_ i want to stay only _1_. And this to happend with single number and double number.  Can you help me

Hello. I would like to use a glyph as a bullet (the opentype digit 3 of Adobe Caslon Pro - an acorn). In the paragraph style box for my "Bulleted list" style, I am trying to add the bullet. When I click "add" and then click "ok," a standard round black dot appears in my list of bullet characters to choose from. If I try to add my preferred glyph (or any of the other opentype glyphs from the font's set, for that matter), the program tells me: "The selected bullet already appears in the Bullets and Numbering dialog box with this font and style association. Specify a different font or style, or select a different bullet." In short, adding a glyph as bullet is not functioning. Could anybody suggest a solution to this problem? Thank you. 

Hi,  I have a Bible book in which the word "LORD" has to be formatted very strangely throughout the text. Everywhere the word "LORD" is in capital letters. (1) I have to make the last 3 letters smaller than the first one (2).I try Title case but then all letter are with same size. Is there any way to make this with GREP and how? Thank you
