InDesign

I have a document that will be exported as web viewed PDF, I’ve set up the glossary with hyperlinked text anchors. But I’d like to include another link to jump back to the text so that readers aren’t ‘stranded’ in the glossary. Is there an easy or automated way to do? Or do I have to set up text anchors that move in the opposite direction (from definition to text).

I’m having trouble opening older InDesign-files. Files from 2023 won’t open anymore in InDesign2026. I get an error like on the screenshot. But it will never repair the files. The older files do open in Indesign2024 … 

I’ve asked about this issue with duplicate entries in the table of contents before.I figured out the cause: it’s because the table “doesn’t span pages or columns,” but the “Skip header row” setting is enabled.As a result, duplicate entries appear in the table of contents.Yes, if you just disable “Skip header row,” this problem won’t occur.But in real-world work, layouts are constantly changing, and there are many tables—you can’t keep adjusting the settings over and over.I wonder if the new 2026 version has fixed this bug.Or if there’s a permanent solution.Thanks

I was forced to update to InDesign 2026. (Mac Mini, Ventura OS) It’s being extremely buggy. I’m now having issues where I’ll open a doc from the Book panel and the doc opens but a modal box stays up saying “Open 1 documents” and typically hangs showing the name of a placed image. Of course, as with everything CC, the “Cancel” button never actually cancels. I can’t do anything but Force Quit and then the fun of having InDesign say files may be damaged.I’m in the middle of a colossal project and basically have to be prepared for a hard crash every moment and don’t dare leave any files open. The Book features is super buggy, but these inherited files were set up this way (due to somebody not understanding text variables for RH, so every chapter is a new volume with 6 master pages, thanks).Has anyone experienced this and figured it out? I now do keep updating InDesign, hoping this is addressed.I’m syncing on DropBox, I’ve selected “Make Available Offline” to hundreds of GB of files so they

I have created a book and at the back is a bibliography which is just a list of titles and authors. In the print version, the title and the author are separated by a leading row of dots which looks very smart with the titles up against the left margin and the authors up against the right margin.. However, when I try to convert it to an e-book and look at it with Kindle Previewer, the dots have disappeared. Can anyone suggest how I can achieve leading dots with a list in an ePub? I have already asked the question to an AI source and received many many CSS solutions, none of which has resulted in the dots showing in the Kindle previewer.

Hello. Brand new laptop (HP Zbook with touchscreen, Windows 10), just installed InDesign and open for the first time, I get this unfriendly "touch" screen (see screenshot) but cannot click (or touch) anything, or press any keyboard shortcut. I also tried what's described here without success (this is the first time I open InDesign on this computer). I'm running out of ideas, please help, thanks!   <Title renamed by moderator>

Hi,I'm experiencing frequent crashes in Adobe InDesign 2026 (version 21.0.0, build 192) on Windows 11. The crash always shows an EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION (0xC0000005) error, and the faulting module is CoolType.dll. According to the crash report, the error occurs during drawing/rendering operations (CShape::ProcessDrawShape and related UI functions).It seems to happen when opening or working with certain documents.Additionally, I need to open a .indd or .idml file that was created in Adobe InDesign 2025. Could that be related to the issue?Any idea how to fix this or what might be causing it?Thanks!

I have the changed the language to English, I set the Preference to Create AI Alt text when placing, I am logged in to my account (with many AI credits) but  no Alt text is generated, No blue icon is shown (not even the preference for it) and when I go to Object Export options, under Custom the button to generate AI Alt text is greyed out.Why is this funcyion disabled? (No enterprise or whatever, just 'normal' version 21.3 US English.

Hallo,wir haben ein - zugegebenermaßen uraltes - Indesign CS3, das bisher auf einem Win10-Rechner problemlos lief.Jetzt sind wir gezwungen, das Programm unter Win11 zu nutzen. Installation lief problemlos, und auch der eigentliche Betrieb funktioniert(e).Jetzt ist der Testzeitraum abgelaufen, aber das Programm läßt sich nicht mehr aktivieren, das es die Aktivierungsserver nicht mehr gibt.Wie bekommt man das Programm wieder zum laufen? (Wurde schließlich legal erworben. Alle Lizenzschlüssel sind vorhanden.)

I created a PDF on 18 March of a complex file, saved locally. Yesterday, the only file available to me was dated 15 March and was not the final file I had saved. How is this possible? I have searched high and low both on my pc and also the Adobe cloud (which I do not use), but it did not save. I’m finding ID to be extremely unstable at the moment. 2026 is impossible to use due to constant hanging, so I reverted to 2025 for this file. The only thing I changed was ‘reset preferences on exit’, because even that keeps hanging when opening paragraph styles. After that, of course, my ‘recent files’ were not available. Now, when I open the 15 March file, I’m being prompted to replace fonts I already have installed and available. There was another file I was working on, which I used to create images for the main file, and that’s also reverted to 15th March. I’ve tried the local data recovery, but they aren’t in there. What’s going on here!? I can’t believe this is possible.

Bonjour. InDesign a planté inopinément. Le fichier où je travaillais a été enregistré 5mn avant. Maintenant, impossible de l'ouvrir ??? Ni depuis InDesign, ni depuis le fichier sur l'ordi ??? C'était le seul fichier ouvert, et c'est le seul que je ne peux plus ouvrir.....? S.O.S. Merci beaucoup !!!

雑誌のように、それぞれのページが高度にデザインされ、文字や画像の配置と図形などのデザイン要素のレイヤーの上下関係や位置関係が複雑に関係するデータを作成する際の質問です。indesignの機能のみでこのようなページのデータを作成することは困難であるため、ページごとに.aiファイルを作成し、indesignでそれらのデータを配置する、というデータ作成が現実的であると考えるのですが、一方で、indesignのデータ作成として好ましくない要素（リンクファイルの中のリンクファイル、indesignで編集が不可能なテキストデータなど）を多分に含んでいるように感じます。本来はデザイン素材をillustratorで作成し、それ以外の画像やテキストはindesignで作成、最終的な配置調整もindesignで行うのが一番主流な使い方かとは思うのですが、そのような使い方ができない複雑なデータの場合はどのように作業を進めればよいのでしょうか。また、それならば無理にindesignを使わずとも、illustratorだけで完結させるべきという意見も想定されますが、ページ管理やノンブルの都合上、indesignを使った編集が前提の作業となります。近頃ＳＮＳでは、「各ページをイラレで作って貼り付けただけのインデザデータに辟易している」といった言説を見かけます。印刷所の都合なども含めて、好ましいデータ作成の方法についてお教えいただけますと幸いです。

I cant seem to text over my image. I create a text box. choose my color and began to type. I "arrange" the text to "send forward and send to front but it CONINUES TO SHOW BLANK ON THE IMAGE.

I have an opportunity to bid on a project which involves a re-design of an environmental-type guide and map utilizing InDesign and Illustrator. The only criteria in which I have very little experience is that a Spanish version will also be required. Basically, I’d like to answer “yes” to the question “Can the bidder produce desired products in both English and Spanish?” Any advice/suggestions will be very much appreciated.

The last line which has a footnote number ending in it is squashed.I noticed that this happens when i apply the World Ready Paragraph Composer.When i apply the normal Adobe Parapgraph Composer it goes back to normal.I need the World Ready Paragraph Composer as there are many paragraphs with Arabic in it.Does anyone know why this happens and the solution?  World Ready Paragraph ComposerAdobe Paragraph Composer​​​​​​ 

I'm currently using version 20.4, which has the feature,and I thought that simply dragging a PDF would activate the feature,but nothing happens when I drag it. Do I need to activate it separately? Could it be that it doesn't work because it's the Korean version? 

Hello,I’m experiencing a blocking issue with the Package function in InDesign 2025 on macOS Tahoe 26.On macOS Sonoma 14.7, the Package function works perfectly with the same document.On macOS Tahoe 26, I tested on two different Macs and the issue occurs every time.When trying File > Package…, InDesign returns the error:InDesign could not package the document. Cannot copy the necessary linked files.  Details:All links are valid (no missing or modified files).Fonts are activated and not missing.The issue happens whether I try to package to the Desktop, to a folder in Documents, or to an external volume.Tried with “include fonts” checked/unchecked → same issue.Tried saving as IDML before packaging → still fails.This looks like a compatibility issue between InDesign and macOS Tahoe 26, possibly related to new file system permissions. Is this a known bug? Is there a workaround or an upcoming patch?Thanks in advance for your help

...or a Mac script? Rather than open up every file and Export as........? Affinity 3 is out and free.

Indesign crashes everytime when opening a document in the cloud (.inddl).Shared for Live Copy editing (beta). Can't  open or access my file any longer. Can I download this file local somehow? Thanks

I have imported several word documents (sort of like individual chapters) into InDesign, so they appear as separate stories. The files have endnotes and footnotes, each of which appears correctly (yay!) aside from my having selected “Load the Place Cursor” and the endnotes appearing on the second page of the placed material (maybe that’s user error? I’m pretty new. I’ve been placing with shift + click). But that’s besides the point.It seems that by default, the endnotes always appear in their own text frame (whether you are importing or you add an endnote using InDesign’s menu). Cutting and pasting seems to break the link between the reference and the text (the numbers change to <?> and you can’t go back and forth between the reference and the text by right clicking). Is there a way to move the dynamic endnotes into the story’s main frame? I mostly just don’t want to have to mess with the endnote text boxes if we end up moving the text around while we are fitting it, but we have

Based on advice from Adobe, we upgraded our Surface Pro machines last year. All are ARM machines. While we were OK to use a Beta temporarily, there have been two outages and a current ongoing outage and it is become very disruptive. We upgraded on the promise that a native app with compatibility for newer ARM machines was being developed. My question is two fold: 1- when will Adobe release a native app? 2 - Current 21.3 Beta Build Issues:I have been dealing with Adobe support for the last four days and have been getting the same suggestions and none work. I have updated, uninstalled, restarted to get this application to work and it is just getting worse. I need help. I am at the point where I will need to cancel our subscription and throw away 15 years experience using InDesign and learn another product. 인디자인 업데이트 이후 문자나 글리프에서 스크롤바를 눌러 밑으로 내리려고만 하면 창이 꺼져서 사용이 불가합니다.그리고 마우스로 클릭해도 적용이 안되고 오로지 키보드로 엔터를 해야 적용이 되요..ㅠㅠ이것때문에 지금 작업 속도가 무진장 더뎌지고 있는데 저와 같은 문제가 생긴 분 있으실까요? 프로그램을 삭제 후 다시 깔아도 해결이 안됩니다.
