I managed to crash my old pc with a faulty power supply but was able to safe my ssd with all my documents for a new pc. I wanted to continue using my quite old CS 5.5 AdobeSuite, but can't since the program seems to think I have installed it onto a new computer. I can't activate it since the number is installed on two computers already (I can just guess I never uninstalled any copy, so the second one is on an even older pc no longer in use for many years now?), and i can't reactivate the already existing license for this harddrive/pc since the activation process does not exist anymore. Is it possible to somehow proof that this is not a third installation but just the same one, on the same harddrive than last week - just in a new pc? I only use indesign occasionally for some voluntary work, so I do not rely on it, but I guess it would be much easier continuing to use indesign than starting to learn some other software instead...
The file is 789MB big, and saved to cloud only. Just yesterday, when I try to open the file from Indesign the program just crashes and closes, no error message. When opened from the CC program the same issue occurs.. Tried downloading the file to my computer but the file has no data in it, and shows the "cannot open file, no permission or already open" message - After downgrading Indesign back to the 2025 version (I just recently updated but was able to open the file once) it says that the file cannot be converted to older version since it can't be converted tto InDesign Markup Language (IDML)My computer does have a tiny storage, is that an issue? I usually have like >1GB of space left if I leave a few applications open.
Hi; this is probably a user error. When placing vector files into InDesign, the placed image now ignores the bounds of the artboard, and the artwork expands to the edges. In the video you see how I had an icon inside a box. The extra room around the icon is the Illustrator artboard. I changed the color of the icon in Illustrator and when I place it, now the icon expands to fit the whole box. I also tried placing just the icon on the document and it also fills out to the edges ignoring the Illustrator artboard boundaries. Is this a setting in my preferences that was reset when updating? I don't recall this ever happening.
I'm looking for a "bitmap" style font to represent text on a screen, and tried LoRes 12 OT. The text will be several colors, including red. However, this is being physically printed at 12pts-ish, and I'm wondering if anyone knows of a slighly bolder version of something like from Adobe that will remain fully legible when printed. It will be printed on stock that doesn't gain much. Also looking for one with the A style like this: I'm trying the alternates of LoRes, but any other suggestions appreciated.thanks!
how can i create a text box that when placing text it should adjust the size to include all text without having to format after...
Hello, I keep having this problem where InDesign keeps telling me that fonts are missing in my project when I have them downloaded. This is something that keeps happening with multiple fonts on multiple projects. Does someone know how to fix this?
I am not sure what to even call this - but we have a file we are printing as a part of a large 25x11" trifold with many images throughout. We're having repeated issues with one image in particular where the shadows appear to be blending into one "blob" of color and having a hard edge to them. (Image smoothing issues maybe?) - We even tried changing the photo, but the new photo has the same issue. Looks fine on a screen and our Canon press prints the photo just fine, but our Konica has this issue when printing. We can't run the job on the Canon due to tray size limitations. Any ideas what causes this, how to fix it, or even what this issue is called? In the file: Photos of the Print: Shadow under the hands in the foreground, the table in the right side and in between fingers in the background area as well as on Bible pages.See the shading under the hand?Three spots between fingers
Hi.. new do InDesign... what I want to do is position the bottom/left corner such that it is 0.25" up and 0.25" from the edge of the bottom/left corner of the page. I also want the table to be exactly 2" wide.. columns evenly spaced. I assume it would be similar to if I needed to position a page number in the bottom corner somehow? I'm sure what I need is a good reference related to positioning elements.. but thus far, stumbling around the UI is not intuitive... any tips? Thanks!
Hi, I have a problem where there is a gap between the last line of text and the page border/margin. It happens on many pages. I have checked the following: Paragraph style Basic character formats: kerning set to metric, tracking 0, normal case, normal position, ligatures enabled. Advanced character formats: horizontal scale 100%, vertical scale 100%, vertical offset 0 pt, skew 0º. Indents and spacing: left alignment, first line indent 8 mm, rest 0 mm, space before and after 0 mm, align to baseline grid: none. Keep options: keep with previous disabled, do not separate from next 0 lines, keep lines together disabled, start/end of paragraph: 2 lines. Hyphenation: default settings. Justification: word spacing min 80%, optimal 100%, max 133%; letter spacing 0; glyph scaling 100%; auto leading 120%; single word justification: full; paragraph composer: Adobe Paragraph Composer. Other options reviewed: tabs, paragraph rules, paragraph borders (border disabled, offsets 1
Good evening everyone, I’m looking for some guidance on a specific InDesign feature (hoping it actually exists…).I’m wondering whether there are plug-ins or scripts capable of automatically handling the layout of a book. Let’s imagine we have a text file (typically a Word document) that already uses specific style sheets (title, subtitle, chapter text, etc.), and we import it into InDesign. I place it into a predefined layout template, and I would like the text to flow through the document while automatically generating and applying the appropriate master pages as needed. In other words, when InDesign is laying out the main body text of the novel, it should use Master A, but whenever it encounters the paragraph style “Chapter Title,” it should understand that it needs to insert a Master B page (a master designed for the beginning of a new chapter), and apply that page type instead. Is there any feature that works like this?I hope my explanation was clear enough.Thank you!
Hello- I have been using in design in old mac laptop with my subscription. It worked fine yeaterday and when I went to wok in my file this morning, it wouldn't let me save it. I closed in design and restarted computer and now in design won't start up at all - adore application manager just spins and spins and won't allow it to start. Computer is definitely old and can't be updated but why is this suddenly happening and is there anything I can do? desperately need access to files today.
Hi allInDesign has just started doing somethign incredibly annoying and I don't know if I have changed a setting, or if something has changed with the new update.I work with a lot of complex icon style elements that I have created. They are set up to exactly the same size and specification so that I can swop in and out differing colour versions depending on the content. e.g. I have a client who has very different RGB and CMYK colour palettes, so I have the icons in both colour sets so that when I am converting one to the other (for print lets say) all I need to do is relink the image and the jobs done. BUT, recently when I relink the image the replacement comes in at a different size by default. Before it would just replace exactly - but now I have to manually select 'media' from the options box (this is the only one that works correctly). Does anyone know how to change the default settings so that it goes back to being automatic? Many thanks
I've looked through a number of fonts, and they all are doing the same thing...How do I fix?
Last month during a Sunday morning, with my friend Lukas Engqvist we were chatting and we collaborated on a script to be able to visualize information about a font/size. So the script automatically generates colored overlays showing em-square, x-height, cap height, ascender, and descender measurements on your selected text, complete with customizable labels in multiple units. The Font Metrics Visualizer is free! 🎁Script UIResults

I've tried opening and saving/packaging it on several devices, it simply crashes or says there's a heavy problem. I can save it locally, but trying to open it crashes InDesign. It works fine from the project folder, saves changes, can even write a PDF. I tried it without the images, without the Adobe Fonts in the document, it crashes. It's an 8-page brochure and for my finals.
Goodmorning all,Is there someone who can help me out?I have an typesetted text in indesign. And in the text there is the name of the image between < >. On the position I want to replace the < > image name to inline image. Or maybe even better. The image as objectstyle next to the text. For example <000001> must be replaced by an illustrator image 000001.ai.When importing the .ai file, I only want to show/import the image part, not the whole media page. The image must be place on 100%Thanks in advance
Greetings. This is a best practices question, not a how-to.For scientific works (see inserted sample page below) with multipanel figures with scale bars, is it better to keep the bars in the .tif file, or add them on top of the image as vector lines in ID? The ABCs are added already as transparent little text boxes from library for consistency and sharper output.- Reasons for keeping them in .tif: Everything is bundled together, no possibllity of elements shifting (I know about grouping, use it for the ABCs and image). - Reasons against .tif: layered master figures of variable pixel dimension/resolution (could be standardized, but PITA), so line sizes are tricky to standardize.Reasons for vector elements in ID: standard line sizes easier to maintain. Vector graphics sharper than pixel lines in .tif file; effect most likely limited given that they are only horizontal and vertical lines.Reasons against vector elements in ID: More work (only about 300 figures to re-do), possible screw up
I'm making a product catalog with modling profiles, and the profile shapes have thin gray strokes for measuring. The end of the strokes are all different, some shorter, some longer. My goal is to make them all the same so they are extened 0.25 inches from the shape. You'll see what I mean if you look at the attachment that shows a before and after comparison. What I've been doing is dragging the end point of each stroke to a guide. This is very time-consuming since there are hundreds of these shapes that have these lines. Is there a way in InDesign (or Illustrator), or using AI somehow where I can get these lines to be 0.25 inches away from the shape instead of doing it manully by dragging each point of each line? Thank you,Chris, Graphic Designer
I'm working on a document to publish online (as a link). I'm trying to incorporate an image of a record player. The plan is that, when clicked, the image of the record player switches to a GIF with a spinning record. At the same time, it'll trigger the sound file I have on the page to play. Then, when the user clicks the GIF, the music pauses, and the GIF switches back to the record player PNG.So far, I've tried this method:1. Turn the record player PNG and GIF into buttons (PNG plays music, GIF pauses music).2. Align the elements and turn them into a multi-state object. This is where I'm stuck, as when I turn them into an MSO, they lose their interactivity. I can't turn the states into buttons or edit any button actions. Is there a way to achieve the effect I'm going for?
You just need to create a paragraph style and a list! Start with a custom paragraph style. Under "Bullets and Numbering" create a new list. Make sure "Continue Numbers across Stories" and "Continue Numbers from Previous Document in Book" are both selected. Here are the settings I use for the numbering style but if you just want the number by itself you just need "^1": Now on your Parent page you just insert a text box and set the paragraph style! For my use, I want the final to say "Page Count 1/42" where the 1 is the incrementing number and the 42 is whichever page limit I have for that document. So on each page that counts towards my custom page limit, I CTRL+SHIFT click on the text box to edit the Parent object and type in 42 (or whatever my page limit is) and the 1 updates automatically. Here's what it looks like in the text box: If you only want the incrementing number, I believe you need to put a space in the original text box, but you might need to test that.
Hi there, I have received an InDesign document. The document has some GREP STYLES set that instruct InDesign to Bold all instances of the word SHALL and all instances of SHALL NOT. Those GREP STYLES are present in most of the paragraph styles, and there are a lot. They look like that: Apply style: Universal Bold; To Text: \ssall\s. The document was translated into German, and I must instruct InDesign to Bold all instances of MUSS and MUSSEN. I opened PARAGRAPH - GREP STYLES, and I changed shall with muss and mussen. It didn't work. So, I selected the text and went to Paragraph Style. I opened the style used for that paragraph, and I opened the GREP style Tab, and I noticed that the definition was still in English. I changed "shall" with "muss" and it worked. However, as I mentioned, there are a lot of paragraph styles that use these GREP Styles. It is time-consuming to open each style and change "shall" with "muss". Is there a way to do that automati
I have a script that no longer works with the update and I have no clue on how to fix it.The script is supposed to open the first file in the book print (located in the C:\ folder mentioned), update the links, save and close the file and then open the next file in the book and repeat until all files are linked and saved. I would appreciate any help someone can give. //Set the user interaction level to NEVERapp.scriptPreferences.userInteractionLevel = UserInteractionLevels.NEVER_INTERACT; //Perform open of a sample bookvar myBook = app.open("C:\\forms\\0210.files\\zprint.indb", false), i, docPath, doc, j; for (i = 0;i<myBook.bookContents.length;i++){ docPath = myBook.bookContents[i].fullName; doc = app.open(File(docPath), false); for (j = 0; j < doc.links.length; j++) { doc.links.item(j).relink(File(doc.links.item(j).filePath)); &nb
