Photoshop

Hello everyone, I am hoping to learn a good method for my task.Basically, I've been doing some mockup characters for a project and using some reference images for colour adjustments. What I'm trying to do is recolour my mockup character's hair (for example) to match the colour and tone depth (not just a flat dead one-tone colour overlay) of a reference character's hair colour.  Horrible example but this is just to visualize my question: Let's say I liked the hair colour of the character on the left and I wanted to match that colour onto the character on the right. As you can see, low-res spritework like this only has 2 or 3 tones of colour for highlights/shadows, but there are often even more for more realistic photos and for high quality modern character art. I want to match the exact highlight/midtone/shadow of one character to another.I know I can use a hair selection and an adjustment layer to do something like "Hue/Saturation" or "Curves", but I always just end up gettin

Hello I have just had a new hard drive fitted in my computer and I've noticed that the generative expand tab is greyed out. Both in the contextual task bar and in the fill drop down box. Also I can no longer drag and drop images into Photoshop. Any ideas why? I'm using the latest version of PS and using Windows 10

Hi! I'm running on mac OS Big Sur (version 11.7.10) and due to my laptop's age, I'm not able to update the OS any further. The oldest version of Photoshop available on the CC desktop app is v22.2, which is not compatible with my laptop. I need at least version 12. Does anyone know where/how I can download a version of Photoshop that is older than v22? I've looked on https://prodesigntools.com/ which directed me to Adobe's customer service, who basically told me they cannot help me and that I need to update my mac. Any help is appreciated!

My PS just freezes for a while whenever I click select subject with the cloud option on. I searched the forum and tried many things, such as resetting all configs, completely reinstalling Adobe CC and PS, changing the image processing to 'More Stable' in preferences. I tried on 2 different PCs, and the same thing is happening.

If you have a questions about the new gradient tool, please start a new thread where we will be happy to help you! The information about the Multiply blending mode has not changed and is still valid.     I'm currently running PS 2020 on Windows 10. In the past, I could use the gradient tool to add multiple gradients to a layer. Now every time I use the tool more than once on the same layer, it erases the previous gradient and leaves only the most recent one. Is there any way I can correct this? Or do I have to add a new layer for every individual gradient I apply? 

Hy Everyone, im new in photoshop (personal use).I'd like to make a template out of an image i did before. Example: i've made a picture and inside this picture are some cut outs (2 rectangle) the size of the picture is also dedicated to a specipif size choose from me.Now mo purpose is to make an a template out of this picture that i can use to cut out a second immage.So i mean, i make a second image and i put on top of this image my previous generated template and i'd like that photoshop cut out everything out as the same as the previous picture (template) was.  is that possible and how to do that?Exactly i'm speaking of an immage about 13x18cm big and two rectangle cut outs (one smaller, the other one biger)  !! This morning, I attempted to open a Photoshop file to make some final adjustments before submitting it for a school assignment. However, as soon as I attempted to open the Photoshop file, I was greeted with an error message stating, "Could not complete your request because your computer does not provide the required AVX and AVX2 instruction sets needed to process video." As a result, the program will not open the file regardless of how many times I try or methods I use. However, when I attempt to open Photoshop files from previous assignments, they open without any issues. For context, the file consists of exactly this; my background image & clipping mask, black & white adjustment layer, threshold adjustment layer, and 5 color fill layers with clipping masks. To my knowledge, there is nothing in the file that would require video extensions or anything like that. I was just working in the file last night with no issues whatsoever and did not do anything out of the ordinary

Preferences > General > DEACTIVATE “auto show the Home screen” has no effect (it ALWAYS shows the home screen even if I don't want it to) until I do, from the home screen, something like ask Help > photoshop help ... then finally, from then on, even in subsequent Photoshop openings, the choice of options is finally honored; but this is a workaround, because there is a problem with options flagged/unflagged.This is after the updates, both with standard Photoshop and with the BETA version. 

Is there a way of converting a Photoshop file into a workable word file?I dont want the photoshop file in word as a picture I have done that but I cannot work on the file in Word which I want to do.

Hello,Since the latest update to Photoshop 2020 (21.1.1), any photo/file I save as a PSD does not show the photo in the icon.  It only shows a solid blake rectangle.  This happens in any app.  If I open Finder the thumnail is black, if I open in ACDSee it shows as black etc.  However, when I open it in photoshop the file loads and is displayed properly.  I'm using an iMac 27 inch with macOS 10.14.6 (Mojave), a TB HDD with 600GB free.  I have 32GB Ram and my graphic card is NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660M 512 MB.  Any App that shows thumnails will show the PSD file icon as black.  All PSD files that I save before the update correctly show the photo in the icon.  I've not changed any color settings in Photoshop.  They are the same as before the update.  I'm using ProPhoto as my color space at 16 bit and that's the way I save the PSD file. Any ideas and work arounds on correcting this will be greatly appreciated.  Oh, the same thing

I have Photoshop 2024 installed, and I can't uninstall the 2023 version. It's taking up over 9gb of disk space. Note: the old version is NOT listed in Adobe CC, it only shows up in Windows "Installed Apps" (see pic). When I choose uninstall, it will open Adobe CC, where it appears as if it's uninstalling, but the process goes by in a flash and then nothing actually gets done.  I already tried uninstalling the 2024 version and then tried uninstalling 2023. No dice. Reinstalling the 2024 version also didn't fix it. Help?  Edit: SOLVED. I finally fixed it -- I found a way to reinstall the 2023 version (in CC, next to Photoshop 2024, click on the three dots and look for "other versions". Find the specific version that needs to be reinstalled.). Then I was able to completely uninstall it after. I have been trying for such a long time and I can't believe I finally thought of the solution minutes after posting this question, LOL.  I'm leaving this up in

In Photoshop 2025, the shortcuts Ctrl+Delete or Alt+Delete can be used to fill a text layer with color. However, when multiple text layers are selected, these shortcuts cannot be utilized for color filling. Is this a bug?

Hi,I have a question. Not special for Adobe, but because I cannot find an answer anywhere, I hope one of you can help me out.My problem is that the last couple of months the background of my thumbnails in Windows 10 Explorer are black. I have a lot of brushes and other (semi_black files and now I cannot see the picture on the thumbnail. When I click on it to show it bigger on the right side of the screen, the bigger view is also black.Does anyone knows how I can turn thiese backgrounds back to white again????

Just yesterday, "Open Recent" worked fine. It brings up a bank of files from over a month ago. Also, I had posted this bug on April 29, 2025, and it wasn't posted.

I'm using the Brush tool and working fine, but suddenly, the selected color from the swatches appears as a "gray" in the tool side panel (I don't know what to call the two switchable little color boxes). Should I restart? Also, in my swatch library, I arrange and organize colors, and the order changes. I am having troble opening any raw file in photoshop.I am still able to open jpg and png files. When the program freezes it does not crash but just becomes unresponsive and requires me to end task using task manager even after letting it load for over an hour. The files i am trying to open are not large (8MB). I am using the latest install of Photoshop 2025 on windows 11 with newly updated drivers.I have tried all of the following with no results:- Reset Photoshop Preferences- Disable GPU Acceleration - Purge the Camera Raw Cache- Updating & Reinstall Photoshop & Camera Raw My graphics processor campatibility check shows:Pass: DirectX availablePass: DirectX feature level 12.1 available, feature level 12.0 requiredPass: Above required VRAM (8724 MB of 1500 MB required)GPU Detected: AMD Radeon(TM) Graphics (AMD)Please let me know if you have any ideas on how to fix this 🙂

Hi I was trying to edit some photos this morning and when I tried to use the neutral filters the screen loaded but I was unable to use any of the settings like for example skin smoothing. I restarted / reloaded the app, restarted my PC and ran the repair option, but nothing worked. It was working fine on Tuesday. There is no error message it just doesn't work! I can use the other tools with no problems! I would appreciate any advice or help on how to resolve this issue. Many thanks Dave

Downloaded Photoshop 2024 yesterday and can't get rid of the black home screen. I will to Settings>general and then unclicked "Auto show the Home Screen" . Nothing has worked. I have downloaded Photoshop a couple of times and still can't get rid of the screen.  I read where my workspace might be the issue and am now using the Essentials workspace. I got rid of all my preferences and started over clean. Still can't get rid of the stupid home screen. Help! I hate it! Thanks  Woodie

Hello. I extracted these images from a video game, but they have a green tint and magenta shadows that they shouldn't have. It's not an extraction issue, because I've extracted using multiple methods with the same result. So, I decided to try manually fixing them with color channels.Here's what they look like now:When they should look more like this:I've noticed that their green channel just looks like a grayscale version of the image, with darker and lighter values than the red and blue channels. I believe the green channel is too strong and needs to be reduced somehow.Any advice on how to weaken the green/magenta channel, or other ideas to remove the tint? I've attached the psd for reference.

Asian scroll that is a family Heirloom and I have had it in a box for over 40 yrs and my mother-in-law had it in the same box for over 50 yrs. before she legally immigrated from Taiwan when it was still ROC and they were being oppressed by the China Dynasty at the time.  So, she brought her son, that many years later became my husband, and came to America.    The scroll has been in the box almost this entire time and before. I never really asked too many personal questions, since she was hard to understand...but she gave it to me on my 1st birthday after marrying Jim.  It's had the label I guess as soon as they were invented, and the box too....I don't know.
