in most video editing software you can select all clips on the right side of the playhead at the press of a button. how do i do this in after effects? i have quite complex composition, i cant just shift click all of the layers because it would also select the wrong ones.
Ever wished you could smoothly round the corners of a Mask Path like you can with a Shape Layer? Now you can with a simple slider. This video is in 2 parts. In the first minute or so, I show the script in action. Just draw a mask on your layer, then run the script and adjust the roundness value. And that's all you need! But, if you're curious how I did it, I then talk you through the code, breaking down each element so you can gain an understanding as to what's possible when you mix path points, the Kappa constant and createPath();
I figured it out
I’ve only been using AE for a year or so. Usually doing the same thing, special effects with video and graphics over a music track. Over 100 videos, never had a problem. This time my pre comp is 10m 50, shows as 10m 50 in the file info, when I play MP4 on QuickTime Player it’s 10m 50 but it shows as about 9m when I imported the MP4 into the main project. Which throws all of my effects out of sync with the music. I should add that I’m using the MP4 more than once in the total project. Also, for info, the project was giving my iMac a hard time with all of the effects which is why I rendered the pre comp and imported it back in.I always use standard settings in the Media Encoder. The main video in the comp is the same FPS as the pre comp. I’m at a loss. I’m not sure which other screenshots would help.I hope this makes sense……...Can anybody help me please?
HI:I’m working on a facial rig. All the elements are shape layers. I want to drive the eyebrows with Nulls that control the path. I made the face shapes a few days ago. Today I went in selected the layer. Opened its contents and selected path. Then I went to Windows>Create Nulls From Paths and selected Points Follow Nulls. I got an error message stating, “Error: No paths selected.” Huh? There is a path selected. I went and created a new shape layer, set down a new path and tried to run the script again and it worked. Why is the older layer not functioning as expected?
As seen in this image, the rect boundary of the right and bottom edges are not correctly displayed - there are gaps between the visual presence of pixels and the rect boundary. This is a critical issue that affects solutions that require pixel-perfect layouts. This issue affects a few 3D Mesh Types. It will be good to know, early, if this will be resolved or if this is an as-designed feature so that I and others who find this issue to be debilitating can look at alternative solutions.TIA.
I'm having an issue with shadows when 3D objects are animated using Advanced 3D renderer and an Environment Light in After Effects. When the objects move, the shadow stutters/jumps instead of animating smoothly, even though all rendering settings in the Advanced 3D menu are set to maximum."
i am using object matte to roto a person (in front of a greenscreen). the initial frame looks ok. but as soon as it starts propagating, the lines become wavy/stepping as in the image below. I had it on other footage as well. but on some other footage it works well. Does anyone have the same issue? ideas to get around it? that tool is useless this way. project is 32bit, Footage is 4,5k,. btw. Thanks for advice.
IssueWhen I enter relative values in the CTI like +20 or -20, the negative values always jump to the absolute position (-0;00;00;20), which is inconsistent behavior on one hand but it also makes no sense at all to be navigated to a negative timecode.Steps to reproduceClick on the CTI (or open the popup window).Type +20The timecode jumps 20 frames forward as expected.Click on the CTI (or open the popup window).Type -20Expected result:The timecode jumps 20 frames backwards.Actual result:The timecode jumps to the absolute time -0;00;00;20 Tested with different compositions, different framerates and clean install.Adobe After Effects version26.3.0 (Build 87)Operating systemWindows 11
Hello, I want to download Adobe After Effects 2019 or 2020 because my laptop can't handle the newer versions. I know that the 2019 and 2020 versions are no longer officially available, but is there still a way to download them?I stopped editing in 2021, and now I want to start editing again using the same laptop I had back then. My laptop has an Intel 11th Gen Core processor, but unfortunately it only has 8 GB of RAM. I can still run the newer versions of After Effects, but they're too demanding for my laptop, and they often crash or become unresponsive ("Not Responding").I wanted to upgrade the RAM, but I can't because it's soldered to the motherboard. And I'm too poor to buy a new laptop right now, lol.
I created a simple 3D sphere, and a 90 degree solid positioned where the sphere lands. I imported a HDRI and attached it so a environment light. Both the sphere and the environment light have cast shadows as on. The solid floor has accept shadows as only. I’ve gone into the render settings and made sure the light shadows are fit to scene. They have the same z space. Does anyone know why shadows aren’t being created by the sphere?
You click a point and you get a rotation widget. nope, not what I want so I’ll click off somewhere else to deselect. nope, cant do that, I have to double click.. I’ll try selecting again.. nope doesn’t work since I forgot to double click.. okay now I’ll try moving the point, nope that moves the entire mask, okay let me double click again to deselect, nope that opened the whole layer on its own panel. Okay lets go back, I’ll try deselecting again, I’ve clicked 4 times and nothing happened.. Now I’ll move my mouse to a different spot and click once instead of twice to deselect. Finally after trying every combination of holding shift, ctrl, alt, clicking, double clicking, triple clicking, and clicking in a different spot I end up accidentally selecting the point I want, and after trying this 8 different ways, wasting 5 minutes, and googling how to do it half a dozen times, I still don’t know how it’s done. Each time I try to manipulate masks my blood pressure increases. This is dumb, proba
Attached screenshot showing the two views side-by-sideSubject: 3D model / asset not displaying in orthographic views (Top, Left, Front) - After Effects v26.3.0 Hi everyone,I'm experiencing an issue where 3D elements render fine in the Active Camera view, but do not display properly when switching to secondary/orthographic views (such as Top, Left, Front, etc.) in a multi-view layout (2 Views).Issue Details: In the Active Camera (Camera 1) view, the 3D model/object is fully visible. In the Top (or other orthographic) view, only the camera wireframe and a black bounding box/wireframe appear, but the actual 3D geometry/points do not render. I am currently using the Classic 3D renderer with Draft 3D toggled on/off. System Setup: App: Adobe After Effects v26.3.0 (Build 87) OS: macOS Sequoia 15.7.4 Hardware: MacBook Pro (13-inch, M1, 2020) RAM: 16 GB (Attached screenshot showing the two views side-by-side)Is this a known limitation/bug with certain 3D assets/plugins in orthographic
How can I create Bar Chart Race animations similar to VGraphs in After Effects?Hi everyone,For the past few years, I’ve been trying to figure out how the YouTube channel VGraphs creates its Bar Chart Race animations.Their charts have a very distinctive and polished style. Some of the details that make their animations look different from typical Bar Chart Races are:The bars themselves are relatively short in width compared to the circular images attached to the ends of the bars. The bars have a black stroke/outline. The font used for the numbers and labels has a distinctive appearance and is somewhat bold. When the bars move or scroll vertically, the circular images attached to the ends of the bars appear to rotate, almost like a coin flipping from one side to the other. Overall, the animation is much more sophisticated than a standard Bar Chart Race.I’m a complete beginner when it comes to After Effects. In fact, I have never used After Effects before.I normally create basic Bar Chart
When stacking multiple 3D elements behind one another and moving them along the Y-axis, distortions occur.
Text that used to be in my project is now not appearing. Resetting the character panel is not working. When I open a new file, the text works so this is only a problem in the file I am working on.
Personally I am becoming increasingly concerned about how stuck in the past After Effects is. It's feels like "this is an amazing tool... from 15 years ago" When you look at the competition there's no direct competitor to AE, but a few apps that together do everything better. That's AE's only really USP - it does an average job of most things, but how much longer can it last like this? It's one thing to say "oh it's too much work to update our 30 year old codebase or make use of modern GPUs" etc etc., but failing to incorporate basic QOL improvements that have been in this very forum for YEARS is just not good enough. Are there any plans at all to drag After Effects into the modern era or is the plan to keep it as a legacy tool with minor UI updates?
I need the installer for an older version of Photoshop and After Effects—one that my macOS supports. I’ve tried installing via Creative Cloud, but it fails with the error: "Processor support for Advanced Vector Extensions 2 (AVX2) is required."
I’m working on a Visual Music film that uses Audio Amplitude layer keyframes created through Audio Layer > Keyframe Assistant > Convert Audio to Keyframes. The result is one linear keyframe per frame (@ 24 fps). Because its desired to act as a switch to turn on/off I’ve converted all the keyframes to hold keyframes. These key frames will be used to turn the opacity of a shape layer on and off to synchronize graphics to audio. The desired value of the keyframes should be restricted to 0 (off) or 100 (on). Keyframes of any value of other than 0 or 100 are to be deleted.I worked up an algorithm by hand processing the keyframes. But since there are over 1000 keyframes to be processed I’d like to automate the process with a script. An elaborate interface is not necessary, the goal is get the keyframes processed to get on to making the film. The workflow: • Prompt user to select a range of keyframes. • Create array of keyframe values from selection. • Set first keyfra
I'm working on a simple projectile motion system and I'm trying to calculate the trajectory between two points.I know the starting position (x1, y1) and the target position (x2, y2), but I don't know the launch angle or the initial velocity. The start and target positions can change every time, so I can't use fixed values. What is the best mathematical approach or algorithm to calculate the correct launch angle and speed so the projectile reaches the target accurately? If there are multiple solutions or common methods, I'd appreciate an explanation or an example.Thank you!
We recorded an object falling at 60fps that lands on the blue tape. It bounces slightly when it lands. I've rotoscoped the falling object out, but it occurred to me that it's not as easy as just swapping the background out with an image. The angle of the ground, shadows, etc. all factor into making something realistic. What's the best way to approach this?
Is there a list of the tips that appear when you first open AE? One caught my eye the other day just as I was loading in a project and I didn’t take it in properly.
Hi, I have some footage of someone moving. I have used the Object Matte Tool to isolate the person moving, then placed a solid colour layer underneath and selected the top layer as track matte. This has worked very well. I now have a solid colour replacing the person on a transparent background.I would now like to play around with this, mirroring and adding echo etc. Can I/should I make the solid layer independent of the tracking layer? Thank you.
I’m so frustrated that I had to work on an urgent task today, only to find out that I couldn’t open After Effects at all.It seemed like I had options, but after installing and uninstalling it several times, I still couldn’t get it to work.At first, I thought it might be because of C4D, but then I realized that wasn’t the issue. I’ve wasted 4-5 hours on this already. Here are the four options I was presented with:Start in Safe ModeReset PreferencesManage PluginsContinueNone of these options worked to get After Effects running.I feel hopeless and have to accept that I will lose this job/task.
