FrameMaker

Hi,I am in the process of updating a document that has text that is common to two other books.I have followed the procedure as indicated in the Help content for adding conditions to text. I can see the text that has the condition I applied, but I also see the original text in the document that does not have the condition tags applied. Is this normal? What I want to do is hide all the text that contains the conditon tag I applied.  Am I doing something wrong?Thank you for any advice and help. Elizabeth 

I am working with a client who has a number of guide books he wants to submit to KDP publishing. I have been investigating the proofing options now and has to conclude, that while one can generate an epub file which will look right in Calibre and on some epub readers, it won't work for Amazon. FrameMaker 2022 ships with an outdated script for Amazon and the epub which is generated from FrameMaker won't be validated by Amazons KDP previewer. Anybody from Adobe here, who can answer whether there are any attempts at fixing these issues?

Hello, i installed FrameMaker 12 on a new PC. I got the message that the serial number is already in use (with the maximum quantity of computers). I have to deactivate the product on another computer to use it.The harddisk of the old computer crashed, so the old computer is not available anymore. What can i do to use the software?

Hi everyone, I've got 3 questions for the FM scripting mavens: Is there a programmatic way (maybe via command line) to launch Framemaker and run a specific extendscript without first manually adding this extendscript to the catalog or transferring it to the Autorun mode?  Alternatively, is there a way to lauch Framemaker via an extendscript? Is there a way to run/call an extendscript from another extendscript? Thank you for your responses in advance!

Friends and experts, I do not really want to work with XMLAthor, but need a clarification of this feature or product interface: https://help.adobe.com/en_US/framemaker/2015/xmlauthor/index.html still exists There no mentioning of XMLAuthor in the User Guide since FM-14 (2017) Even FM-17 (2022) has files in $HOME\fminit\Workspaces for XMLAuthor XMLAuthor is also present in the user area WorkSpaces, but stays empty IMHO this is bloating code in FM ≥ 14 and I must not refer to it in any tool for FM ≥ 14 (ETB14up, Customising FM for FM-14 upwards etc.). What is your knowledge with this?

I am using Framemaker Version 16.0.1.817I have a frame document in japanese language with font Noto Sans JP. When I create a pdf, the font is not displayed correctly in the output pdf. If I use the option "Use Distiller", then the fonts are displayed correctly, but png graphics with transparent background are not displayed transparent in pdf output.This is a dilemma: either the font is correct or the graphics. But I need both.How to solve this?Thanks, Rainer

I gave a co-worker a book that has left, right, and blank master pages. I was looking at her reproduction of my book and noticed that she only has a right page master page. Is there some way that the left and blank master pages would get lost or deleted...something she may have done?  Deleted them maybe?

I am inserting various frames via context rules in the EDD. I am trying to find a method to access some of the properties of frames that are automatically put on the page by FrameMaker via these formatting rules. Is there anyone who has tried (and succeeded) in doing this ?I have tried to find all graphic objects in the text frame but these auto-included frames are not there. Finding all graphic objects on the page only gives me the textframe.I have also tried to the to the frame via the properties of the paragraph for which the FrameAbove property is set, but that only gives me the name of the frame, not a handle to the frame itself. Or is that a hidden property in the propVal ?Any help would be appreciated - although I know that I am probably walking down untravelled roads again here...

Hey folks, I'm pretty much lost trying to use Sharepoint Online as CMS. "Regular" Sharepoint is about to get shut down in our company, and we're supposed to switch to SP Online instead. Setting up the connection was straightforward enough, and I can checkout files with no problems. I'm facing two major issues though:1. The most critical issue is that FrameMaker seemingly cannot save or load any file references. All our documents are organized in .book files, with images referenced from a sub folder of the respective book. So we literally have thousands of files references (across ~200 book files). All of these break whenever we try to use SP Online.2. Another issue access speed is excrutiatingly slow. Larger files take forever to load and open, and even a simple .book file will only down- or upload after a brief pause, followed by FrameMaker's placeholder "progress" bar, and another brief pause. This happens everytime and on any connection, even Gb fibre optic LAN.Is there an

Hi there, WIN11 X64Adobe FrameMaker 2020 v 16.0.5.1096 I have a technical manual that consists of a *.book with seven (7) sections. Inside the book, I have a Table of Contents file (TOC), a list of figures files (LOF), and an Index file (IX). Now, each section has its own mini TOC (Section1TOC, Section2TOC, etc.). Now, comes the weird stuff that puzzles me.1. Only Section two (2) and section five (5) have their mini TOCs auto-updating.2. The rest of the sections' mini TOC files are not made to auto-update.3. ALL mini TOC files have identical settings and tags when comparing their Reference Pages.4. ALL sections are using the same Paragraph Styles: Chapter title, Heading 1, etc.  The client provided me with a PDF and I noticed that as in FrameMaker, only the section's 2 mini TOC and the section's five mini TOC are clickable. How can I make the rest of the mini TOCs to auto-update? Thank you in advance. 

Hi,I want to create an EDD file from scratch. I am not an expert, but till now I make some changes to available EDD files to meet our needs. However, now I want to create an EDD from scratch. I wondered if there is any documentation available on EDD's different rules.For example, I want o create an EDD file, which has a root element (BOOK) containing TITLE and CHAPTER elements. I want my TITLE element to be in the middle of the row. But I don't know how. I could change the casing and weight of the title but not its position. So, I wonder that is there any document available dedicated to EDD rules. I read various available ADOBE tutorial documents. But most of them concentrate on making a structured application. And there are just a couple of pages on making EDD files and most of them used the same sample (proposal sample). Thanks for your help in advance.Sanam

Hi, I have a problem with insert hypertext from text to picture. I can How can I easier and fast insert this. I can do it in reverse (I use hotspot). Please help solve the problem.

I need to be able to describe a context to identify the first sibling PARA tag in a sequence.  I think the {first} qualifier means the first sibling - not the first sibling of the same element type.  I have used the firstpargraph rule to implement numbering for the first paragraph in a prcitem and it works for all cases except this stupid REVST case.  Note that the REVST/REVEND need to be placed in this location so that the whole paragraph can get a revision bar.  I use the "between" qualifier in a PARA rule to turn the rev bars on.  If the REVST/REVEND were inside the PARA I don't see a means to turn the rev bars on.In the following example the first para numbers correctly.  The second one does not get a number.  This is probably because the <revst/> is considered the first paragraph so the first para rule does not fire.<prclist1><prcitem1><prcitem><para>This is the first (and only) para in a prcitem and it is numbered c

Hi all, I'm having issues with v7.2. When I import an artwork I need to title this artwork underneath. How do I do this please? I would like the 'text box' to be moved around the page, until I am happy with its position. Any advice?

I have many files that are booked. I want ot change the font of 1 style to another font. The paragraph designer is grayed out in the book. If I bring up the paragraph designer in 1 file of the book and change the font it only changes that 1 file, not all in the book.

Hi everyone,Maybe I should post a bug report, but I wanted to ask the community first.Since we started using FM22, we experience some very annoying behaviour : undoing certain actions (unchain for instance) takes a lot of time AND loses all manual formatting in footnotes (space above, etc.).Anyone has experienced the same issue ? I have seen several posts about issues with crop marks not printing with various FM versions, but no solutions. I have been using FM 2019 and printing books with the Adobe PDF printer driver, printing PDFs with registration marks, crop marks, and color bars. When I moved to FM 2022 from FM2019. using the exact same settings, the registration marks printed, but no crop marks or color bars. And when I try to use the publish pod to generate PDFs where I could explicitly select what marks to print, FM spits out a PDF without any text at all and no print marks either. The output has all the pages, mostly blank but with some of the graphics from the FM source but FM hangs without completing and I have to kill the process to recover. So I am assuming it is the interaction between FM and the Adobe printer driver, but I have run out of things to try to fix it. Tried rolling back to FM 2020 with latest updates and same issue. But FM 2019 still works. Has anyone else had this problem and actually

Hi,I am working on documents that have Symbol Table Body content, and I have added symbols approriate to the information. The issue is that when I save the book as PDF and open it, the symbols have moved from where I placed them. This is not happening at every instance.How do I get the symbols to stay attached to the Symbol Table Body sections?Please find two screenshots attached that show this issue.Thank you for any help.Cheers,Elizabeth

Good morning,I have a problem with Framemaker version 17 (release September 2022)After editing and saving a file, I close the book. When I reopen the book and open the file edited before, a warning appears that the file is already open by another user ( practically generated a .lck file). If I remove the .lck and open the file, I see that it no longer has the changes I made previously.Do any of you know how this is possible?

When trying to update Adobe FrameMaker 2020 6.4 the update screen states there is an update, but nothing else, no button to say "yes" but when we go to close it, it acts like it is updating, and asks if we want to quit the update.  but dose not show any progress, or anything. is there somewhere i can manually download the update and install in, or what is going on... i also notice that FrameMaker is not in my Adobe Creative Cloud app, like i figure it would be.

I have designed 3 book/ebook templates for Adobe FrameMaker in the three classic paper sizes, US Trade, Digest and Pocketbook. Most ebook publishing seems to have move to KDP, Lulu and and other similar places where Word is the manuscript standard. FrameMaker can do it as well, however and for mysterious reasons Adobe has never provided templates.
