A long time ago I had a tab open that explained how to find a font that contained a specific glyph, but it’s been lost to too many updates. Who knows how to use InDesign to find a font that has a specific (semi-obscure, an asterism) glyph?
Hi I am running the latest version of Adobe CC InDesign 2026 and am having real issues packaging the document and it’s associated links.I have no errors on the document and all linked files are located within a links folder i have created within the folder structure. All links are stored on One Drive cloud. Also the software keeps crashing when attempting to package. The below alert keeps appearing. No idea what this means or what it relates to? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
I too am having problems with the 'Smart Guides' option being grayed out in the 'View' - 'Grids and Guides' column. I've replaced the preferences, checked all the appropriate boxes, yet nothing I do works. Additionally, the 'Smart Guides' did work for some time. However, for reason(s) I'm unaware of, they just stopped showing up. I'm stumped. Any suggestions?
I exporting a one page document with some photos as interactive PDF and print PDF results in drastically different file sizes (83MB vs 1.7MB) even though the compression, quality and ppi settings are the same. So I played around with the export of the interactive PDF and noticed some strange behaviors I cannot explain: Reducing the compression, quality and ppi to the bare minimum still results in a very big PDF file size (around 60MB). Having photos embedded instead of linked inside InDesign increases the PDF file size for some reason. Deleting all the photos from the document only reduces the PDF file to around 40MB, even though there now is only some text visible in the exported PDF. Only once every single photo is deleted from the InDesign document, the PDF file size gets down to a reasonable 97KB. So simply having photos in the pasteboard actually directly increases the PDF file size! The fix is easy: Export as print PDF, works perfectly. But can anyone explain any of the points
Hi gang, I wish there was some sort of comparison table showing which accessibility new feature/improvement goes with which output medium: PDF or EPUB. Every next patch and version of InDesign announces a new accessibility feature improvement, but it rarely indicates whether it is for accessible epub or for accessible pdf. Help me make such a definitive list?
Hey everyone, my command+Z shortcut for »Undo« doesn't work in Indesign, and I can't find the source of error. The problem is Indesign-specific, because the rest of the Adobe programs work with command+Z, as do all other programs on my laptop. I already re-downloaded Indesign, set it up again, checked for missing links and am now at the end of my wits. Can somebody help me? :=) xx, clara
I’m a bit confused about the different ways to implement dialog boxes, so I threw something together but it doesn’t work.I want there to be a default value in this purple area, but I want users to be able to modify it and submit it.Thank you.makeDialog();var listA;function makeDialog() { //the dialog object var theDialog = app.dialogs.add({ name: " CopyToc", canCancel: true }); with (theDialog.dialogColumns.add()) { staticTexts.add({ staticLabel: "OldStyle:" }); staticTexts.add({ staticLabel: "NewStyle:" }); } with (theDialog.dialogColumns.add()) { listA = [] for (var i = 1; i < app.activeDocument.tocStyles.length; i++) { listA.push(app.activeDocument.tocStyles[i].name) }; oldStyle = dropdowns.add({ stringList: listA, selectedIndex: 0, minWidth: 80 }); //newStyle = inputGroup.add("edittext", undefined, "Index"); } var res = theDialog.show(); if (res == true) { oldStyle = listA[oldStyle.selecte
For more that 20 years I have used InDesign in the same way. My saved workspace goes back probably 10 years. But with the last release or so, all the panels behave differently. I have always had all my panels (swatches, Align, character, Pagagraph, etc) dock in the right side of the frame in a small stack. If I clicked on one, it popped out and I could do my work, then click on it again and it would nest back in. Now my workspace is constantly reseting, the panels on the right don’t react to a click. I have to pull them out to float to use them. What happened and where is the change documented?
HI. I stupidly updated InDesign today, I know, I know my bad, I should have learnt long ago.It launches to full screen then nothing totally frozen until I force quit it. I guess, yet again I will have t0 wipe it reinstall it then go through all the hassle of putting the panels etc where I need them because in 2026 indeisgn still cannot save this simple preference. In the desperate hope there is a more simple solution, does anyone have any advice?
I spend a lot of time and effort adding tags with article view, and then after I export it as an interactive pdf, I open it in acrobat and the article tags are all out of order. Then I have to spend even more time and effort reordering them in acrobat because its all wrong. why does this happen
How do I get rid of the shifting gray tones (blinking effect) in the Application Panel background gray when in focus?
Seriously, does every single update have to break something? For years, a simple Option + double-click on a photo would open it directly in Photoshop. It was fast, efficient, and worked exactly as expected. Now, after yet another update, that functionality is gone. Why?What's even more frustrating is that the suggested workaround doesn't work either. Going to "Links" and selecting "Edit Original" does absolutely nothing on my system. At this point, every update feels like a gamble. Instead of looking forward to new features, I'm left wondering which existing workflow Adobe has decided to break this time and how much time I'll have to spend finding a workaround. That's not a great experience for people who rely on these tools professionally every day. We're paying customers. Basic functionality and established workflows shouldn't be getting disrupted with every major update. Can someone from Adobe please acknowledge this issue and provide either a fix or a clear explanation of what's going
Hi everyone.Every time I need to create an index manually, I rename the “Contents Style” to “Index Style,” save the original ID file (e.g., A.indd) as B.indd, then open the A.indd file and load B.indd in “Contents Styles” panel. This gives me two identical contents Styles. It’s a bit of a hassle. Is there a way to directly copy an identical Table of Contents Style?
Cordialement
Hello, My InDesign somehow just decided to change the unit for documents from inches to points. I don't really points so I want to put it back to inches but haven't trouble. I think the way to change the units for new documents was to go to Preferences - Units and Increments and change the H and V units there. My Preference for units is already set as inches. And my rulers are shown in inches, too. But, when I open a New Document, it still shows me all units in "p". After having this issue, I updated the InDesign CC yesterday, too, but still having the trouble. Can anyone help please? Thank you!
Can anyone recommend a cloud based DAM for a 4 person art department. Looking for something that is reasonably priced for the features that it offers. Not looking for the cheapest option but something that will grow with us.
Prerequisite: Maintain the spacing between the text content and the text box (keeping the same bottom margin as before the adjustment). For example, in the text below, the normal, appropriate line spacing is 16.However, due to layout adjustments, I sometimes need to adjust the line spacing—either pushing it down by 1–2 lines or pulling it up by 1–2 lines.I want to run the script once to increase the line spacing by 1 line, and then run it again to increase it by another 1 line.Another script does the opposite:Run it once to decrease the line spacing by 1 line, and then run it again to decrease it by another 1 line.
(Have I been muted? I can't reply to posts anymore.)How is this line spacing calculated?line height= font size + Line spacingIs that right? How do I get the font size and line spacing of the current line?Thank you very much.
I recently scanned a multi-page document to creat a PDF. I then performed OCR to recognise the text.I then selected all of the text using Ctrl +A , and copied itI then pasted it into a new InDesign documentI then used autoflow to turn it into multiple pagesThe problem:The text box on each page has gained a border, though I can’t see how it has been created: there is no stroke; and just to be sure, I set its weight to 0 point. I am therefore unable to remove it. I should add that any additional pages and text boxes I have added do not have these borders.Any help gratefully appreciated on how to remove this.
I've recently uploaded a GREP list/cheat sheet/reference card to a couple of topics. It's one I created a few years ago and have been updating for my own uses, since I can't seem to find one that meets all my wishes — complete, accurate, organized, reasonably tidy-looking and without the points of murky example or understanding that so many of the references out there seem to have. (Okay, I'm fussy.) After my upload yesterday I noticed an error, and some omissions, and one thing led to another, and so — very polished version of what I think a GREP reference should be is attached. I hope both newcomers and grizzled GREPpers find it useful. PDF and IDML also available on my digital publishing reference site. All due credit, both in general and as a resource for this update/polishing round, to @Peter Kahrel 's authoritative GREP in InDesign. [Older version removed; updated file in later post.]
Hello fellow InDesigners 🙂I want to view my colors in RGB mode. As you can see in the screenshot. The 2 colors are bright and in RGB but the square in my workspace is viewed in cmyk mode, it's not that bright. Anybody knows how to watch the colors in my workspace in rgb?Thank you for your time 🙂
