InDesign

My catalog files are quite large and looking for a way to edit the file quickly. It can take some time to make simple text changes.

I've decided that having one text flow per document is too problematic to retain, because even small changes to styles may case significant repagination; so every style change requires a tedious re-check of every single page in the book. So I'd like to break text flow between frames as it stands right now, so any repagination that requires more space will generate an overset-text error. But I want to keep one story; not have a separate story on every page. Is this possible? The flow-breaking scripts in the samples collection both break the story.

I am building a fitness book for a client, and she would like to have a collaborative file to replace images in sections with others.I managed to create a project and upload a zip folder with the links, etc. I noticed that I am unable to open/upload the InDesign file to invite her to share. I then saw it's a supported file format issue, so I tried to save the cloud (it has a green checkmark), but it doesn't show up in my "files" section in the Creative Cloud Desktop App to share with the client. Then I tried sharing the file from InDesign (Invite to edit), but it has been showing this notification since yesterday. Is this normal for larger image-rich files? Also, if someone could guide me on best practices for sharing and collaborating on files, that would be very helpful, as this is my first time.  Please help the newb.Thanks a million. 

Not sure if anyone has experienced this issue before when looking at the object layers for a linked illustrator file? where you end up getting duplicate layers being displayed (See linked images). This issue seems quite random, the only work around I've found so far is if you turn on every version of the layer you want, this is fine until you suddenly have about 7/8 duplicates to deal with! any help would be appreciated!

For the past week or so, InDesign has been freezing for 1-2 minutes when I make a change to a paragraph style (try to change the font or color or something). It will eventually get going (i.e., not crashing ID), but it's making my workflow VERY slow. InDesign version 20.2Windows 11, version 24H2I saw some earlier posts about a similar issue. 

I'm trying to create a "date selection" in InDesign. i.e. date of birth, request date. So far it seems like there isn't an option.My initial test was through using the interactive buttons to create a date selection but that is not an option.Any suggestions?

This account  is associated with my company account. This account has been provided with InDesign application however, I cannot use the license because adobe.com site is recognizing my email address as a personal account instead of company account. How do I get the option of choosing company instead of personal? 

Hi everyone, I’m working on a lead magnet layout in InDesign and need help automating FontAwesome bullet points. Each line starts with “Not this:” or “But this:”,  both use a Character Style (bold and colored) and  followed by normal body text on the same line. I want to add a FontAwesome bullet point at the start of each line automatically, without manually typing it every time.I tried using Paragraph Styles, but the bullet formatting applies to the entire line, affecting the “Not this / But this” text and body copy as well. Hi, I am trying to fix a broken numbering system on a project template. I didn't make the template.Currently the leading number "4" (chapter number) is assigned by going to layout > numbering options > starting numbering at 4 The sub-chapters (4.1, 4.2, etc) are updated, but the sub-sub-chapters remain un updated. Is there a way to "clear" character color instead of reset all other character style settings? I know it looks to be a silly question.Thanks!

Sorry for the cryptic title. I am getting older and my brain is fried! For many years I have used a template which I created, I have just adjusted as needed but I want to start from scratch and dont remember how I got here. Essentially I have a text box that determines what will go into the title of a page. The purpose of this is so that title remains page after page until I change the text box again on the next page to be a different title. This stops double ups in the contents page In the image below the title text has arrows at each end and is determined by the 'Contents' text box.If someone could just give me a hitn I am sure I can work it back out!   In an hilarious twist of fate I asked this question a few years ago but apparently I worked it out and did not write it down lol.

All my other files can be exported, but this one file just won't. The file has hyperlinks and images only. When I export the file, the error message points to a certain page and to other random pages when I re-export. I checked each of those pages, but nothing is unusual.Please help. 

 Whatever H1 header I make the first H1 header, all other H1 headers nest underneath. They should all be at the same level. These are all linked text frames.

Hi everyone, I’m having an issue with Adobe InDesign.When I place a JPEG image, it doesn’t show the actual picture — instead, I only see vertical colored lines across the frame.The weird part: the exact same file opens and displays perfectly on another computer running the same version of InDesign. I’m on macOS [15.5] with InDesign [20.5]. Do you have any ideas or known fixes? Thanks in advance!

In the new InDesign 2026 (Czech language version on macOS), there’s still an issue with the “Show Import Options”checkbox. When importing graphics, the Finder window opens as usual, but InDesign no longer remembers whether the “Show Import Options” box was checked. In older versions, this preference stayed active even after restarting the app. Now I have to check it manually every single time I place a file. Is this an intentional change or a bug?

I'm trying to create an object style that will allow me to achive a 3 sided stroke, open on the right side. I know I could just create the frame and then manually delete the right side stroke of the frame, but I'm trying to create the style such that it could be reversible if the client changes their mind and wanted the stroke on all four sides.

Hi, all! I have been working on marketing materials in InDesign for several years now. I recently found out that the materials are getting a redesign. I will be sent the new native file templates. I need to find the best way to "convert" my existing materials (all documents) into these new templates.  I'm thinking the best way is through copying and pasting the elements of one of our old pages into the new template, and then tweaking as needed? I'm not sure if that's the most effective or efficient method, though - I need to update dozens and dozens of documents.  Thanks in advance!  

I'm working with a book template that someone else created. Screenshot attached. The frame edges, para symbols, text box links are all in bright red, which I find visually distracting. I want to restore them to default color (cyan?). I've tried everything I can think of, even deleted red from swatches, but nothing works. I know it's likely a simple command, but it escapes me. Thanks to all who respond. 

I have chapters from a book in a series pdf files.  When I open the file in InDesign the words that were in italics appear as regular text. Is there a way to perserve the words that are italicized.  I opened the pdf directly in InDesign and it was automaticall converted into an InDesign file. Thanks.

Hi, i'm struggling to publish my book on KDP. Somehow it tells me that there is text outside the margin. but there is only an image. I have a book with Bleed, the KDP support already confirmed that the pagesize trim, bleed everthing is correct. I even created a copy of the page and deleted just the image, that is accepted by the kdp previewer. Did anyone have something similar or has an idea how to solve this?

Bonjour,J'ai créé une table des matières pour mes référencer mes illustrations. Sous mes illustrations, un numéro se crée automatiquement quand j'ajoute une légende. Dans un calque invisible, j'ajoute un encadré avec la référence de mon image. Le paragraphe "légende" est lié à celui qui contient la référence. Toutefois dans ma table des matières je me retrouve avec le numéro de figure et la référence sur l'autre ligne. J'aimerais que le texte de la référence suive le numéro de la figure sur la même ligne. J'essaie de trouver ce que je ne fais pas bien dans mon style de table des matières mais je ne trouve pas la solution.  Au pire, une formule GREP pourrait m'aider à effacer ce retour mais je ne trouve pas non plus. Les espaces apparaissent comme des points d'exclamations. Je joins des images pour illustrer mon propos.  Merci à l'avance.

Hello!I am working on a large file, 92 pages so far. Last week, while trying to fix some hyperlinks, the entire file crashed and was damaged. I was able to restore it from a backup. However, ever since then it crashes whenever I try to edit certain things. I can't touch certain hyperlinks to edit/delete them and now I can't touch the character styles to edit them.Any advice or insight?Thank you!
