I often convert point type to area type. Frequently, when I do this, I cannot change the background color of the area type, which is the reason I’ve changed it to area type. I can’t figure out why. Often it’s when I’m given the file with text objects, but sometimes it happens when I add the text objects myself.Always when I start out with area type, there’s no problem. Any ideas? I’m using Mac OS 15.7.7 and Illustrator 2026. Thanks for any help. It’s driving me insane.

Hi All,I’ve been getting “Acrobat PDF file format is having difficulties. No error” all day.Restarted Illy, no go, restarted computer, no go. Deleted Illy prefs, restarted computer. Makes no difference.It was intermittent earlier today, now it’s every time I do a save, I have to do a save-as to get around it.Online research said delete prefs, I did, no difference.I see a lot of “Acrobat PDF file format is having difficulties. Bad parameter”  and variations, but none that say “No error” on the end…Frustrating rather than anything, at least I have a work around.I do have a lot of Adobe PDF Presets in Save Adobe Pdf dialog, but I have had those for a long time, and I’m currently only using the default [Illustrator Default].I did update to 30.6 24 days ago, no issues in the preceding 23...Any ideas?Thanks, Em.“difficulties. I have multiple displays connected in laptop. Working with illustrator, it becomes a pain when I move and dock the illustrator to a second monitor and vice versa. The side panels closes (minimize) automatically and I have to re-expand them all the time. Yes there is a resolution different in both the monitors but still are above FHD resolution.Is there any way to fix, lock and have them be opened permanently?

I would like to create highlights that looks like the ones in the sample image.I've tried creating this highlight using two paths that have been offset with then the top one subtracted from the bottom one. That produces a highlight that runs the entire height of the letter.I've also tried applying an art brush to a line segment, but getting the taper in the right place is challenging.

When I select any colour from the colour guide palette, for example a complimentary colour, the swatches loaded in the top window are completely different. This started happening over night and I’m stumped. I use the colour guide a lot for building brand colour palettes. See the example in the screen grab. I’m looking for a green that compliments the orange, but when I click on the complimentary green, it loads a blue in the top bar?It’s the same for every palette in the guide and for every colour I start with. 

Actually, this happens with all my Adobe apps, possibly a Creative Cloud issue? If so, moderator, please move to the appropriate place.  So, here's the issue. I go to place a linked image file in AI, say a PSD or TIF file, or any other file format that AI will take. Hit Command+Shift+P. Dialog box comes up. The file I want to place is there, but grayed out. I go back to Finder to make sure it's finished syncing, and it is.So now, one of two things happens: From the place dialog, I navigate to the parent folder, and then back to the file I want to place and it's not grayed out anymore. I place and go on with my day. I do the above navigation, many times, and the file I want to place is never available. Okay, move on to the next project. Hours later I come back to it, and it's available. There are no words for this kind of frustration, especially when time is tight. #1 is what usually happens. The larger text is fully selectable and editable, however the smaller text next to it, I cannot click it, move it, only delete it via the layers panels, after which it glitches out (screenshot of text size difference attached!)(also screenshot of text glitching out attached too)This has been happening for a while, especially when dealing with larger and small artboards, images and text all on the same file.I don’t know what else to say about this simple issue other than the performance is atrocious.

Correct me if I am wrong : When I first tried Retype feature I could edit text in an image (incorporated, not linked). But now I am only able to identify a more or less simliar font without editing text function. Am I missing something or did Adobe stepped back and dropped this very useful feature?

Something changed with the color palette in late 2025. I frequently change CMYK values by selecting the art and then clicking in the CMYK sliders in the color palette. Normally I can key-in the values and simply tab from C to M to Y to K, but now as soon as I hit the tab key, all the fields go blank. I’ve been adjusting color this way for decades and now it doesn’t work. I’m currently on version 30.2.1 on Mac OS.

Hi There. I am running the lastest stable version of Illustrator on my M4 Macbook Pro on Tahoe. I have recently started having an issue where I can load Illustrator, no trouble there... but upon opening the first file, or creating a new doc, the file opens, but then I get the spinning ball for about a minutes before it goes away and the panels appear. This only happens on the first file open...not on launch, and not on subsequent file opens. Things I have tried:removing all fonts, killing and rebuilding font cache, trashing and rebuilding preferences, uninstalling CC and reinstalling, l logging out and in to CC, with reboots between...I can work with this, but it's SUPER annoying and doesn't happen on my other Macs. Just this one and just recently... Any ideas? Thanks!

What happened: I tried to open the file from the Illustrator Home screen. A message appeared saying I was "logged in to an account that cannot view this file." I clicked OK, and the file then completely disappeared. It is now missing everywhere I've looked. What I've already tried:Searched the Illustrator Home screen and "Your work" — not there Checked cloud documents on the Creative Cloud web files page — not there Checked the Creative Cloud desktop app — not there Checked the Deleted / Trash folder on the web — [not there / haven't found it] Restarted the Creative Cloud Libraries Synchronizer and signed out/in — no change Local device search for conflict copies and *.aic: nothing found.Since I only have one Adobe account ever, this doesn't appear to be an account mix-up. Viewport glitches on the border of the screen, weird black or white artifacts. Looks like there is some delay of redrawing in the viewport. It appears in every document, when moving with hand, zooming in/out. It is very annoying for the workflow. How is it that Illustraror needs to use 44GB+ of memory on a file that is 400MB in size.  How is that even possible?Currently my Illustrator program has been (Not Responding) now for 24 minutes. Memory usage jumps from 4GB, 19GB, 34GB, 44GB, 36GB, and now it's down to 17MB and still not responding. What is going on? This is an ongoing issue with Illustrator even when working with minimal size files. My files are not all tha complicated and don't include anything drastically complex. I've researched and adjusted my settings to oprimize the programs speed. Reduced saves, Unchecked background services and done everything I can think of to try and increase the speed of Illustrator, but yet it still continuiously wants to be a resource hog and utilize more memory than the entire instalation of all programs on my computer. I am unable to locate the top control bar in Illustrator 2026. The home icon is all that is being able to be seen.

While playing around with the format of the toolbar, I accidentally changed the layout into a two-column format with all of the tool groups expanded within those two columns. For instance: the Pen, Add Anchor Point, Delete Anchor Point, and the Anchor Point tools were in a box within that column (NOT A FLYOUT BOX), so I didn’t have to click/hold on the pen tool to expand that group to select one of those tools. They were already displayed within those two columns. As were all of the tool groups. However, that layout disappeared after closing Illustrator and opening it again. I cannot remember how I arrived at that layout. Can anyone show me how to recreate that?

Is there a way to set the scaled percentages of linked images in Illustrator to a different specific percentage of scale, like you can in InDesign. For example I have a file with links (of various dimensions) that are placed at 65.635% and I would like to select them and set their percentage scaled to 50%, or even just reset its scale to 100%.The links palette shows the percentage that the link is placed. But the Transform>Scale and Transform Each tools only rescale the item BY the percentage you enter, not TO a specific percentage.I would prefer to not have to re-place all the links and resize them to 50%, or do the math to find the percentage to reduce them more so that the final percentage is 50%.

Hello, I need some assistance with Making my own plugin for Illustrator. I have been following the documentation and have my folder set up as below, I am able to sign and create the ZXP file via powershell, but when i go to install via ZXPinstaller or extension manager, i get an error “failed to install, status = -410! ” This error seems to point to an issue with the file structure when signing the ZXP, but I’m pretty sure I’m doing it correctly. I have updated to 28.6 yesterday and, ever since, whenever Illustrator is running, the screensaver is not being allowed to follow the System Settings set in macOS Sonoma 14.5 (M3 Max).How do I know it is Illustrator?1. it persists through log out and macOS restart2. through trial and error, I excluded all other apps and it is the only one doing this. I do not recall this happening on 28.5, and I will likely uninstall this version and revert to the older one if this persists. Thank you

When I select an object I use the transform menu to move, rotate, and scale the object. But recently a “turntable” option was added which un-selects the field I was editing if I accidentally even hover over it, despite the fact that I have generative turned off in the command menu and preferences as well as tutorials disabled. This is extremely annoying and constantly disrupts my workflow.

I believe that issue might be a glitch and i don’t know how to let adobe know of this issue 

why don't you stick to your knitting ..... all your legacy stuff is falling apart .... stuff i teach ..... AE is still riddled with bugs ... and now AI Beta ......
