 Hello everyone,I hope you're doing well. I'm encountering an issue with the character direction in Adobe InDesign and I'm hoping someone here can provide some guidance.I'm currently using the latest version of Adobe InDesign with a premium subscription (up to date as of May 25, 2023). According to the information I found on the Adobe website, there should be a "Character Direction" option available in the "Character" panel to control the direction of individual characters within a paragraph. However, I cannot seem to locate this option in my version of InDesign.The absence of the "Character Direction" option is causing difficulties for me when typing text in Arabic or Hebrew. For example, when I try to type a period, it is positioned behind the text instead of appearing after it. It only moves to the end of the text if I type another word. This behavior suggests that the character direction is set for English, but I need it to be adjusted for right-to-left languages.I have alread

Object Styles, Paragraph Styles, I'm really trying to get a grip on them but my god. Simple example. I have an image frame and a text frame. The text frame contains the caption for the image. I want the text frame to sit at the bottom of the image frame. The image frame is a placeholder, because each page will have different size images. So the captions need to move with the image dynamically.  Anchored object? Group? I tried and at some point, the caption text remained underneath the image, even when scaling the image frame! But what about the image and text frames underneath them? I just want to make certain that the margins between each frame are the same for every page, and that I can increase a margin that is then corrected on all pages equally...editing in html is more user friendly than this. Everything is jumping around and it just reminds me wrestling with excel.

I'm having issues with all floating menus like this, this is the top right of my screen. When clicked on stroke menu for instance, the floating goes off the screen and I can't rearrange it. Is there any fix to this. Only happens when using dual monitors. <Title renamed by moderator>

Hi, does anyone have an idea when the regular support business hours are? (For help with InDesign)Can't find anything about business hours anywhere on Adobe's websites.I already tried to chat with Adobe this Saturday, around 09:00 CET, and 16:30 CET. First you need to answer a LOT of questions with, and then after like 10 minutes, it responds that Adobe is ready to help within their business hours, without telling when that is. 😞

Hello!I have a ticket that has a QR code on it that the customer wants in their color (blue). When using datamerge, the QR codes are colored black. The DB has 25,000 records. Anyone have a Javascript to accomplish this?  Thanks in advance! Bud

Hello Adobe Team,   I would like to request that Adobe InDesign once again include support (or at least a conversion feature) for opening **PageMaker (.PMD)** files.   Many designers and publishers still have important archives created in PageMaker, and it has become very difficult to access or update those files since modern InDesign (CC versions) no longer supports them.   Even a simple **"Convert PMD to INDD/IDML"** option or a **legacy import plug-in** would be extremely useful. It would save time, preserve historical work, and help users migrate old projects without depending on outdated software like InDesign CS6. I Know this is Very Old but if Including this Feature Indesign Again Market Leader and Forever.... I have tried many times to switch to InDesign, but I couldn’t because of this problem. I don’t just have one or two PageMaker files — I have a lot of them, and converting or recreating each one is very difficult. That’s why

"Command | " used to be an automated short cut for aligning (indenting) text to the same position as the line above after using a bullet point. But it no longer works for me which does my head in!  Can anyone help or maybe I'm loosing my mind as its one of those short cuts I used to do without thinking so maybe I'm not doing it right! Thanks,Mark 

I can make an interactive PDF quite easily and made many now.  But my question now (and i dont even really know how to ask the question really!) - once someone has completed a PDF how can i make it so they can upload it somewhere for me to then to retrieve that data. I am going to make a questionaire for our local village society members to fill in from a QR code in the printed newsletter, i had thought of doing this using InDesign as i know how to do this. Perhaps ID is not the right product for this, but i know my way around ID so well.  The numbers are not going to be huge, if i got 100 responses i would be doing really well, it might only be a few people to respond. It will go out to about 1000 houses and its first time we have ever done this around the village !  I would love some help please in this area, the village society has an (ancient) website, but i dont want it to get too complicated.  Or should i use google docs as a form instead - neve

hello guys,Is there any way to give numbers to spread? I've created an InDesign doc using facing pages (two pages make one spread ) and I have to number the spreads, not the pages. I tried creating a master page but it shows 3,5,7... I want spreads to be numbered. The snap below explains my problem

Hola, tengo un problema a ver si alguien me puede ayudar. Estoy haciendo un libro de matemáticas, utilizo el editor de fórmulas de indd. Cuando empaqueto las fórmulas quedan como .svg, como es para impresión, debería poder obtener un .tif, o un .eps...  cuando exporto a pdf, aunque incruste perfil CMYK, la fórmula se exporta en RGB, por lo que el pdf sale con error. He intentado cambiar la extensión... no sé cómo solucionarlo y no encuentro en foros una solución. ¿alguien sabe cómo hacerlo?

Hello there, often when synchronising (book) files or even (right now) when writing text on a page which does not affect the rest of the document in terms of space, a window pops up stating "Spread cannot have more than 10 pages". Why? How do I solve this? Also, I noticed that when adding a page to a file (which I just did because of this message, after which the file synched at last), the new page/s go to the right of the last spread in the pages panel. Why? Boo hoo! I would much appreciate any help.

I'm working on a script to compare the text on a page with the filename of a specific layer. Here's the issue I'm running into: For example, I have a text frame on a layer named Code. The script can find it if it's present on Page 1 or Page 2—that part works fine. However, it doesn't report when the text frame is missing from Page 1 or Page 2. It seems to handle Parent Pages correctly. For instance, if the Code layer contains the text in the same position on each page via the Parent Page, the script detects it and doesn’t need to take any action. The problem arises when the text frame is not on parent pages. For example: On Page 1, the text frame is in the top right. On Page 2, it’s in the bottom left. Then it's detecting text on the layer, so it stops as it's found. So page 1 might have the text for the codeand page 2 doesn't have text for the code - but the script is not finding it. Does this make sense?

Hi, I keep getting the attached error when opening InDesign. Can you please help to provide a solution. I've tried uninstalling and re-installing several times but keep getting the same error.

Is it possible to upload InDesign files to Creative Cloud Files or Libraries? I keep getting an error message that says: “Files could not be uploaded. Some file types are not supported.” Is this a known issue? If so, is there an alternative solution?

Where is the "Character Direction" option in InDesign 20.5? I need to do it on the Character level because it is an English document with a word in another language with a definition. I can't use the Paragragh options. The instructions in Help say it's on the Character panel when you open the Options. But there is no "Character Direction" option in the list. I tried asking the "Bot" which is horrible. I put the same question I wrote here, and it then asked me for more clarity on which Adobe product I was asking about. Then I did a search here on the help boards and the results returned "0". Can anyone help with this?? 

My design team has needs to backsave InDesign files. I need to install vers 16.4 while also running the current CS 2026 version. Current dropdown goes back to version 20.0 in CC app. Any help is appreciated.

I work for a newspaper, and while exporting a layout proof some pages with ads appear blank even though the ad is there. I normally place indesign files and for whatever reason when I export them the ads are missing or the images in the ad are distorted. If I place a high res PDF in for the ad it's fine. I have never had an issue placing indesign documents before this update.

I am using the most current version of InDesign and Acrobat on Windows 10. To create an email hyperlink in InDesign I choose URL and type mailto: in front of the email address with no spaces. I am not using Shared Hyperlink Destination. When I export to PDF the email links don't work correctly. Instead of opening the email application, they try to open a web page. In InDesign, even though I specify URL and put mailto: in front of the email address when I re-open the Hyperlinks panel and choose Edit Hyperlink, the link has changed back to Email and the mailto text has disappeared. I have not made this change -- InDesign is doing it automatically behind my back. How can I create an email hyperlink in InDesign that actually works in the exported PDF?

Hi all. I am having a problem with some fixed layout epubs exported from Indesign when they are opened in Adobe Digital Editions. These are displaying fine (in fact v good) in Apple Books and Kindle Previewer but for some reason in ADE, when the reader advances the page, the new page usually (not always, but usually) doesn’t display, and won’t until you click a three of four times on where it should be. This is the same with both fixed layouts that contain images (eg facsimiles of historical documents) and fixed layouts generated from text (eg poetry). I tried png as well as jpeg in the “conversion settings” tab in Indesign export dialogue but it doesn’t seem to help. ADE is used in the catalogue booksellers look at, so we have no choice but to make the file work with it.Happy to edit the epub in sigil if anyone knows what edit is needed!
