Mac OS 14.7.1 and Windows 11Adobe Indesign 2026 I have been receiving the error message "adobe there was an error updating the artifact" since last Thursday (11.20.25). I usually get this error after the 10th or 11th time I've updated the document, but now it occurs whenever I try to update a link. In the past, even when I get the error, the link updates. That is not the case now.  I can create a new link with no issue, but once that link is created I can not update it. I have tried this on both my Windows and Apple machines. I've reset my preferences and that didn't fix anything. My internet connection is strong, so that isn't the issue. I can create a new document and update the link to that, but that doesn't help with the document I am currently editing. I don't know what is wrong with the document I am editing due to the fact that the error gives no explanation. Am I going to have to rebuild a 28 page document, or is there something else I'm not seeing?

hi, i have very much years of 3d,  PS, AE and AI experience but i´m quite new to indesign and i have a question belonging layers and master pages. i dont understand what the idea is to have more masterpages, and why only one layerwindow for x masterpages?...what logic is behind the fact that i cant see on which masterlayer the layers are drawn? can anyone explain me that in 1 or 2 sentences please. many thanks for help!thomes

I reported this in 2023 and 2024. Here we are again. Creating a new language deactivates spellcheck and hyphenation features.We could have more languages in InDesign, given that there are Hunspell packages available. For instance, in Spain we could add Basque, Galician. Many countries in South America could install variants of Spanish (for Argentina, Mexico, etc.). Resetting preferences and deleting caches is of no avail. The only solution is reinstalling InDesign from scratch. We are stuck with the list of languages installed by default. Please, give us a more language-aware application, because we need to work with other languages than those installed by default. 

Hi everyone. When I import a docx file to transform into a book, it loses the footnote character style and also de weblinks. What do I need to do in order to fix it once and for all? Thanks,James

Hi there, another Share for review problem.So, the issue im having is the link goes up all fine and is shared with the client ok. The problem occurs when I go to update the link all Im getting is a warning sign saying this...It doesn't matter which project it is im getting the same warning everytime when I go to update the link. The only thing atm that works is deleting the link and starting again. Which obviously makes the feature pointless. Using a MacBook Pro 2019, latest Indesign, Sonoma 14.7.4Any help or acknowledgement appreciated! Getting really hard to rely on this feature now. Might have to axe it as Its making me look a bit stupid with clients.  

text boxes all move going from facing to single and back to single. I was trying to check the bleed on a 2 page spread.???

I started working on this script some time ago and it's since fallen to the wayside - I'm not using it. But I was tinkering around some unused and unfinished script projects    I've taken it as far as I can go in terms of a learning curve for me - if anyone wants it or wants to tinker with it and make it better feel free. I am writing to seek assistance regarding an issue I am experiencing while trying to install an Adobe application. I keep encountering the following error:“Your computer appears to be offline” (Error Code: 206)I have already tried the recommended troubleshooting steps, including:Checking my internet connection (stable and working).Restarting my computer.Running the installer as an administrator.Disabling Windows Firewall and antivirus temporarily.Despite performing all these steps, the error persists and the installer fails to complete.Could anyone please provide guidance on resolving this issue? I would appreciate any instructions or alternative methods to install the application.

Hi, up until now I have used the excellent Count Text script. Sadly this no longer works in indesign. Does anything else exist out there, as part of my tender work we usually have a word count and having to take it out and put into word just to get that is tedious.

I create a weekly grocery ad. Every item is created in .indd and saved as .indd. Normally, I open a new weekly ad PAGE file and PLACE the .indd files. Since the upgrade to InDesign 2026, there is a bug that when creating a pdf file... NONE of the PLACED images appear after the pdf is created. (see attachment) The cheese and crackers photo, the Christmas bulbs, and the background (all PLACED photoshop files)  Lots of workarounds floating around - none of which worked. If i were to make all my indd files (thousands) to IDML, it works great in Affinity, but not InDesign. I don't really want to have to do this, and may just jump ship after using InDesign for over 25 years. Please advise timeline for fix!Thank you.Mary

Hi all,I have a file that crashes (Mac) v. 20.1 upon start up. The problem started when I was exporting a pdf and it just never finished. I finally had to force quit. Since then, I rebooted, tried updated Indesign (first to 20.5.1 and then to 21) , deleted cashe files, and trashed preferences. No luck. Can anyone take a look? test 2 2.indd

I am using the eye dropper tool to sample a color for an image in indesign to create a new swatch. The colors coming up are gray or white instead of the colors I am actually sampling. Any suggestions? 

I'm working in a book and when I have a table the following text disappear. Somebody know what is happening? Thanks a lot.James

I am planning on creating a (completed) book for publication using Adobe InDesign, importing its sections from Word documents. The entire book is in the form of a dialogue. The style I wish to preserve is such that the initials of the two speakers appear to the left of their respective speech. I've achieved this, in Word, by writing the book in the form of a two-column, multiple-row table: the initials in the left column, and the dialogue to the right, which keeps initials and text separate. MY QUESTION: How can I maintain this style as I import into InDesign? ChatGPT and I have spent ten hours attempting this until I lost the will to live. Can anyone at least point me in the right direction?  Many thanks!

When using numeric paragraph attributes in Find/Change (for example, Left Indent in millimeters), manual Find works correctly, but the same query saved as a Find/Change preset fails to match identical paragraphs.This is not a unit conversion issue (mm to pt).The problem is caused by floating point precision loss when the preset is saved, followed by strict numeric comparison when the preset is executed.Steps to reproduce:Create a new document.Set document measurement units to millimeters.Create a paragraph with Left Indent set to 5 mm.Open Find/Change.Search for paragraphs with Left Indent equal to 5 mm. My InDesign Beta app was updated today, and afterward, I couldn't connect to Slack. I had to uninstall the app, which is why I can't report this through the software. I can't use InDesign until this is fixed because my work depends on Slack.

Hi everyone, The issue is straightforward. Apart from the regular problems we are all experiencing with the bugginess of each new update of indesign - this time it seems like mine can't open a single idnesign template I've made in 2025. Force quitting, computer restarts and re-installing indesign from scratch - tried everything to no avail. Anybody else experiences a similar issue lately? Any fixes? I'm operating on the latest Mac OS. Many many many thanks in advance for any smallest suggestion that might take me out of this misery.

How do I get Menu path to a submenu using the C++ SDK?I need to use it in IMenuCustomizationData::HideSubMenu(const PMString &menuPath). In the script, you can retrieve menuItems and subMenus from the menu. How do you accomplish the same thing using the C++ SDK?

Indesign version: 20.4.1Windows 10 The text disappears when I write that last "a", and it's not because it's aligned to base grid. It has the little red box showing that there's overset text, but the text never appears even if I stretch the box. 

My rectangle frame tool is no longer working, when I put my cursor in the document is says 'options' and wants me to put in height and width.  I thought it was just the frame tool but I can't create a text box either.  It's like none of my tools are working.  I'm using the latest verson on InDesign, 21.0.2, Windows 11, Version 25H2.  Everything worked fine a few months ago.  I have uninstalled, reinstalling, shut down, unplugged my computer, researched everything and I can't found out why these tools are no longer working.  Even when I put in exact measurements and the frame was created, I couldn't move it, resize it, etc.  If you can't use frame tool or text tool InDesign is pretty useless.  Thank you. 

Why is my page breaking like this even though all Keep Options are off and there are no special characters, breaks, etc?

Is there a script or a way to paste the same image on every page but each page a slight different position? I'm doing a fore-edge print and need the same image on every other page but each time it has to move 0.246mm left Thank You!

Why is one corner of my rectangle get rounded after and update yesterday?? Indesign 21.0.2  There is no corner option selected and this was not an issue before the update yesterday and I have never rounded a single corner on any design to date. hmmmAny suggestions?
