InDesign

InDesign has been around for like 25 years now and STILL all we have for gradient control is a linear and radial gradient. Can Adobe please add other styles to bring this software into the 2020’s? Copying and pasting gradients from Illustrator is ridiculous and doesn’t work well. as others have commented on previously.There are posts like this:  That are 2 years old and the OP is correct. It’s a ridiculous process. It needs a modern panel. You also have to try to drag a color swatch from another panel onto a little tiny color square in the gradient panel to change the color. Why not just allow us to click on the color square in the gradient ramp and choose a color from there? It would save SO much time and frustration. This shouldn’t even be a feature that users have to request. This should be Adobe’s team saying, “This is what needs to be updated in InDesign right now. I (and many other frustrated designers) would much rather have usable features like this than AI that we don’t need a

Since the update, InDesign 21.4.1 has been crashing frequently while I’m working. Gradients often do not work, especially when I copy and paste elements from another file—something that worked perfectly before the update.The cursor frequently indicates that something is loading, but nothing happens. InDesign then becomes unresponsive and cannot be closed normally, so every time I have to force-close it through Task Manager and restart it, sometimes several times.I’m very disappointed with this update. I’m not working on particularly large or complex files, yet InDesign still crashes repeatedly in the middle of my projects.

Hi,I  having terrible issue with Indesign 21.4.1. (on Win 11).From time to time the icon of saving appears (the blue rotating circle) and it stucks in that state. I can’t close the program and even kill the task from Task Manager. I can reopen the document and close it, but the icon starts to keep on turning.But I cannot close the indesign itself! It has even appeared afer restart as nonresponsive background!!!  First time in my 30 PC experience I saw something like that.I tried to install the previous version (20.5.4) and that version is fine.

Hello.In the sublayer of the program which I use in English, appears in German. Regardless of the right user region all programs were in English including Windows11. It concerns the following path: Type/Text variables/Insert variable/…The translations for other functions appear in the right language.I use the edition 20.5.3.x64.Is it a translation bug?

Wann ist es möglich, das der Review Link, nicht mehr nur vom Creator aktualisiert werden kann? Wir nutzen den Review-Link gerne für kleinere Projekte um uns mit dem Kunden auszutauschen. Sobald ein Kollege krank wird und dieser den Review-Link erzeugt hat, ist es nicht mehr möglich diesen zu aktualisieren und wir müssen einen neuen Link erstellen. Das führt oft zu Abstimmungsproblemen und Komplikationen. Wie schön wäre es, wenn man entweder einen Stellvertreter oder eine Gruppe dazu berechtigen könnte den ursprünglichen Freigabe-Link zu aktualsieren.

Hi guys, I work for a printing company, primarily focused on label production, and also general flat paper based commercial printing. We use Adobe CC applications for our pre-press production software, and are looking at assessing the best imposition solutions for going from artwork to plates for process jobs or pdfs for digital jobs.The main purpose for this would be to streamline operator task efficiency, ease-of-use, limitation reduction, etc. to get the most out of our time on the job.What imposition solutions have you guys had good experience with in a print production context?

Egal, ob ich eine Datei per Doppelklick aus dem Windows Explorer oder über Datei-Öffnen direkt in InDesign. Die Dateien öffnen sich als “schreibgeschützt” und müssen dann immer umständlich neu gespeichert und entsprechend ausgetauscht werden. Die gegoogelten Erklärungen treffen bei mir nicht zu. Die Datei ist nicht an einem anderen Ort geöffnet, es gibt keine Log-Datei die gelöscht werden kann.

For the last hour or two, I have been unable to access InDesign as well as other Adobe software; every time I try to open InDesign it comes up saying it cannot access the servers to verify the licence (it is an Educational licence that expires in October), and when I click on Try Again is just says there has been an error (referral code 109). I have tried the Limited Access Repair Tool to reset the host file, but it says it didn’t fix anything (I guess because there was nothing to fix). I have confirmed with a colleague who also uses the suite and they are experiencing the same thing. I use InDesign 19.0.1, as my PC is not compatible with the newer version; could this be the issue or is there an issue with the servers (I checked the status page and there is nothing showing with issues).

I’ve been working on medium sized branded documents (20-30) pages and every time, EVERY TIME, I open indesign I have to troubleshoot the activated Adobe fonts. Every time I open the document - the font’s aren’t activated, so I have to spend sometimes 30 minutes trying to activate them by restarting both Indesgn and Adobe CC. I find this system and process ridiculously clunky and sub-par to the price users pay for CC. Why is this happening and what is the fix?

My InDesign hangs and shows a spinning cursor whenever I edit the formatting of a paragraph; it essentially freezes and just keeps spinning. I am using the latest version. This issue only started occurring after I updated to the new version.

I’m looking for a way to read the value app.findColorPreferences.findWhat, and find out what swatch it’s currently looking for. It gives the error 30615 The property is not applicable in the current state.I am able to set it:app.findColorPreferences.findWhat = app.activeDocument.swatches.item("SWATCH_NAME")Is there a way to read what swatch is currently selected in the dialog, similar to findGrepPreferences and findTextPreferences?

I’ve tried using the “open a PDF in InDesign” feature, but every time it puts each page into a separate alternative layout. This makes opening multi-page PDFs kind of worthless. Is there a fix for this?

It's not working letting me page number automatically or do I manually page number for Adobe InDesign I put the master pages for my imported PDF this is a PDF I made in Adobe Acrobat and I took the page numbers off cuz I'm trying to give it to you for books it's single pages. 

I recently expanded a font family i use regularly. At first the regular was missing, and then when reinstalled it now shows up as blank. Unfortunately everywhere it used to appear is now just a blank text box. I’ve also attempted to upload it to Adobe Fonts, and install it as a cloud font and nothing has worked.  I use the font on a day to day for very important material, so i cannot have random blank spaces

I installed the latest update to version 21, and InDesign won't launch. It doesn't give any errors, but it won't start. It doesn't do anything at all. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling it, but that didn't work. Version 20 works perfectly, even the beta version 20.6. I tried reinstalling it by deleting the preferences, but that didn't work. I tried reinstalling the Creative app and reinstalling InDesign, but that didn't work.Bridge does the same thing, but it gives me error OXC0000142. InDesign, on the other hand, doesn't have any errors. Old Bridge works, but the beta version doesn't I have windows 11 last updatedWhat can I do?Thanks a lotNicola

I'm having a lot of trouble with InDesign over the past couple of weeks. I have two subscriptions - one for work and one personal, using two different machines. Both are having the same issues. InDesign works for the first five minutes, then lags, tools and functions stop working - can't even undo. Freezes or crashes after that. Using Windows 11, have reinstalled, on latest version. Nothing works. Extremely frustrating and causing significant delays in being able to do my job.

Just experimenting a bit & wondering how to accomplish this, if possible, while minimizing manually editing each time. I haven’t done a lot of tricky TOCs, but haven’t been able to figure this one out yet. Example below… Even better would be if the story title could have its own formatting automatically as well.The issue is that what’s shown here as “Author Name” is a style that has a hard return after it in the body. I assume nested styles may be the answer, so I’ll have to read up on that a bit. Any suggestions? Thanks

Hi everyone,After updating my MacBook M3 Pro to macOS Tahoe, Adobe InDesign has become completely unusable.I’ve tried both the newest InDesign update and an older version, but the issue persists with both.Documents open extremely slowly, most times if it’s a bigger file it doesn’t open at all, but once opened the file lags so much that I can’t work at all, typing, selecting objects, or moving anything is delayed or frozen. The whole program feels unresponsive.Before updating to macOS Tahoe, everything worked perfectly fine on the same machine.Has anyone else experienced this after updating to Tahoe? Is this a compatibility issue, or is there a known fix?I rely on InDesign for work, so this is quite urgent. Any help would be greatly appreciated.Thank you!

The new feature auto generates pornographic alt text in pictures it cannot seem to identify. It does seems to work ok on real photos but all complex icons have nude people and body parts described. It seems to me instead of giving a warning that it can’t identify a content it correlaties it to pornographic content. I don’t know if there was no introduction/pop-up to this new feature or if I simply missed it, but auto generating nsfw text is not okay. Why is there no filter that stops it from doing so?   

I used copying and created paragraph style B based on A, but found that NextStyle also changed to A.At this point, I don't want to change it. I want to set it back to the same style, but I've been searching for a long time and haven't found any usable code.How to set the next style to the same style in properties?styleB.properties{}  

 This seems different from the object style, there is no Reset to base option here.The following code only copied an empty style B and did not inherit the data from A. var baseSty = app.documents[0].cellStyles.itemByName('A'); //alert(baseSty.parent); //exit(); newSty = baseSty.duplicate(); newSty.name = 'B'; newSty.basedOn = baseSty;But you commented out this line://newSty.basedOn = baseSty;Discovered that B can inherit A's data, but based on 'none' Manual operation also has the same effect.This may be the difference between manual "direct copying" and "based on new creation".I don't know why they can't have both?
