Hello,In this example, for the paragraph designer “cantate” I have set a tab stop of 0.4 cm left, with a numbering. For numbers 1 to 9 : no problem, but from number 10, the space has gone betwen the point and the begining of the text. Why ?My goal is ti keep the same space for all the numbers.
I have an old perpetual license for FrameMaker 11. It refuses to load as of yesterday, saying the serial number is already in use by the maximum allowed computers. Note it was running fine, then suddenly it stopped. I think it was after I’d updated my macbook Pro (Tahoe 26.3.1, Parallels 26.2.2, Windows 11) so maybe somehow the Adobe Application Manager thinks this is a new machine. I lost access to one activation several years ago when a laptop stopped working and I recycled it. I’ve tried getting adobe to reset my activation count, but multiple chats resulted in agents not understanding the problem (they refer me to resetting activations in the ‘internal dashboard’, and of course FM isn’t on the Adobe dashboard) or just dropping the conversation. I wrote to techcomm@adobe.com and tcssup@adobe.com (also about not being able to run the FM17 installer), but haven’t heard back. Thank you for any suggestions you may have.
I am creating a manual which has manuals and or drawing sets which are to be PDFs (over 300 of them) which can be selected and opened as a separate PDF document. The selection is likely most important in the output PDF, but should be displayable while in FrameMaker. Ideally the same location would be have a link in both PDF and FrameMaker. What I have been able to do so far is to create a common text frame shown below. The upper left frame is the result of Insert>Attach file in PDF. the Lower with icon is an File>Import>Object. FrameMaker file snip:I am publishing with PDF A3b archive format which appears to be the only way to get the PDF embedded. I have tried other formats without luck. Publishing the above file which I will also attach results in the following snip. Loss of both graphics related to the Attach or OLE object. Note the text from the OLE object is published in PDF, but nothing is selectable. And the attached file without graphic has an active hyperlink
I'm working on a document with many large tables that I want to automatically rotate to landscape orientation in my PDF output using master page maps. When I generate the PDF, I can see that my templates are being used, but only the left and right pages get applied- never the landscape page that I want. I have a set of templates for this document and I've determined that ChapterOutputTpl.fm is the one that gets used for this table. In ChapterOutputTpl, I've added the landscape master page. I've also edited the structured and unstructured master page maps in the reference pages so that the table element (structured map) and table cell and body paragraph tags (unstructured map) use the landscape master page. I know that the right template file is used because I put a visible time stamp in it. I'm generating the PDF through the Publish panel using "Save PDF via Book with components route" and "Apply Output Templates". I've tried "Print" and "Save as PDF" with
When I update my books, I sometimes get the error message Book is not self-consistent.I always restarted FrameMaker or Windows or saved everything as MIF and back to FM. And this always seemed to help. However, I am now pretty sure that this was not the real fix.Instead it was the table of contents or index.I have Track Text Edits activated. When I update the book, and both, the TOC and the index are closed, I do not get this error message. When either the TOC or the index is open, I get this error message. When I close these files, no error message. It’s really that simple. No restarting, no resaving.I hope this helps others.I do not know, if this error message counts as a bug which should be fixed.
I work for a large organization. We have been using Adobe FrameMaker to create numerous user guides (PDFs) for many years. These user guides need to be frequently updated. All user guides must be accessibility compliant. The PDFs that we create using Adobe FrameMaker are very large (hundreds of pages for each PDF). After creating a PDF, we run an accessibility check using Adobe Acrobat Pro. Some of the accessibility issues that are listed in the check require an enormous amount of time to manually resolve in the PDF. And every time we update a PDF, we must “start from scratch” to resolve the accessibility issues again. It seems that some of these issues should not be happening when the Adobe FrameMaker files are saved to PDF. We are currently using the Adobe FrameMaker 2022 version. If we are unable to resolve these issues, we might need to start considering other software options. Note: We have also tried different settings file options to publish the Adobe FrameMaker files
The FDK allows you to access the FP_ExportFilters list, although I haven’t tried it.This works in FrameScript:Write Console ExportFilters;I’m trying to find the equivalent command in ExtendScript, but it doesn’t look like it is part of the app object. Does anyone know if this list is available via ExtendScript? Thanks!
With the advent of Claude, Gemini, etc. it seems like a great time to run Claude across the entire codebase of Frame and make it work on Macs, be more lightweight, and publish html out of the box with no sweat. Make it a super tool. Any chance of that happening?
I am running into a problem with my hypertext entries (used to open a video-file on the same computer the PDF/link is clicked) that I cannot find any information about on the web. The problem is that no matter what type of hypertext command I try (message URL, message opennew, message openfile, etc.) the actual syntax of my hypertext is getting changed by FM when I click the <save> button. For example: the hypertext command I type in is "//D:/data/local/Test-Folder/OnlineHelpFiles/filename.mp4"...is being changed to something with unicode characters for the colon “ : “and the "/O" in the file path. This change occurs no matter if I put the URL in quotes or use the 'escape reserved characters' technique. Any guidance is appreciated…
I am working in a document repository connected to SharePoint online. I select Checkout and Edit, work on my document, save (continuously), Checkin the document and everything seems to be working fine. That is until I go back to the file and half my changes, if I’m lucky, are not there. More often, nothing is saved. This is the third time I have tried to create a document and it’s now beyond frustrating. So what am I doing wrong?I haven’t worked in FrameMaker in over a decade so go easy on me :-)
I purchased a license of FrameMaker 17 education, assigned it to a user (myself with my email, which is the same as my Adobe sign-in email), and installed FM. When I start it, it’s offering a 30-day trial or to buy it. The Buy page doesn’t recognize that I have an FM license assigned. How do I activate FM? If I go to the admin console under my login, I can see the license as provisioned and it’s assigned to my name with the correct email. Under Products, it says Access Assigned under Adobe FrameMaker. Thank you for your help.
I am generating a List of Authors and I want the First or Second Name to be bold. But I can’t make it work properly. This is the Marker dialogue and I have tried adding code for a character style called “Bold”. And also, this isn not working. I believe I CAN make it work, but I can’t remember how?Any suggestions?
I’m using a local installation of FrameMaker Version: 17.0.7.842 on my laptop.I have a DITA Bookmap that needs to be converted to a FrameMaker book. My DITA Bookmap conversion to FM results in a 542 page pdf book. The book has 7 chapters (seven ditamaps making up the bookmap). In chapters that have less than 50 images, all figure captions are visible. My issue is I have a chapter (chapter 2) that has 250 images. The figures are converted properly and have the expected Figure numbers below each figure. But no captions. When I edit the DITA in chapter 2 and remove enough topics from the ditamap to leave only 50 images, chapter 2 is published with all figure captions. My take from this is that FrameMaker cannot convert ditamaps that have topics with more than 50 image elements without removing the figure captions.I could add more chapters (ditamaps) to the bookmap, each ditamap only have having topics with 50 images max. However, because of document standards, I cannot increase the number
I am working on a book file with a chapter that changes content based on work location. The content in all other chapters of the book is the same for everyone. There are 19 different work locations, so essentially there are 19 PDFs, each named for a specific site, with all content except the chapter in question being identical. Right now, the process is to open the main book file, convert it to PDF, then create 19 versions with the location-specific PDF for each site inserted into the changing chapter. This seems inefficient to me. For example, the book file is named MAIN_Progam. One chapter in the book is titled Location-Specific Procedures and contains only the first page and a blank. That is where each site-specific PDF is inserted after converting the book to PDF. Is there a more efficient way to do this than the way we are currently doing it? Thanks for your help!
For several months now, I am increasingly urged by our IT security/compliance team to update vulnerable openssl libraries belonging to FrameMaker (i.e. libcrypto-3-x64.dll and libssl-3-x64.dll being vulnerable to CVE-2024-12797, CVE-2024-13176, CVE-2024-2511, CVE-2024-4603, CVE-2024-4741, CVE-2024-5535, CVE-2024-6119, CVE-2024-9143).Updating to the latest 17.0.8 release does not solve the issue, as the outdated and vulnerable SSL libraries are included in there. This leads me to the following questions:When will Adobe provide patched SSL libraries for FrameMaker? Can I use newer SSL libraries (e.g. those included in latest Adobe Reader) as a (temporary) replacement? Thanks.
We can't verify your subscription status.Hello everyone, I woke up one day to get to work, and when I turned it on I saw this panel with an error.“We can't reach the Adobe servers. This may be because you're not connected to the internet. Check your connection and try again below. If you're still having issues, please see our connectivity troubleshooting guide. ERROR CODE 12015 “I've tried all the troubleshooting steps in the guide, but nothing works.I checked that the plan is paid for, but something's still not working. Has anyone encountered this problem?I would be very grateful for your help.
How do I set monitor (scree) size in FM17 so that at 100% zoom the page is displayed in exactly the size set in Format > Page Layout > Page Size. This used to be available in versions up to 11 as a setting in Preferences or maker.ini as MonitorSize= if I remember correctly. It’s not there anymore and I don’t see any references to this anywhere. In FM11 I used to be able to compare a printed page to the displayed page for checking the margins, etc. I can accomplish this by setting a custom zoom setting, say 157%, but the other percentages won’t be clean numbers showing % sizing compared to full size.
I am editing a New Testament translation and I need to revise some of the verse numbers. They are seperate from the body and I can't figure out how to get to them. Any suggestions?

When publishing my book to HTML5, the first 3 chapters of the book publish correctly in the left pane in HTML 5 generated output. However, the remaining chapters all populate nested under the 3rd chapter (see below). How do I solve this? Chapter 1Sub sectionChapter 2Chapter 3Sub sectionChapter 4Sub sectionChapter 5
I've just starting working with VS Code. I've been using ESTK. I have both Adobe FrameMaker 2019 and Adobe FrameMaker 2022 installed, but typically, we just use FM 2022. My launch.json looks like this:{ "version": "0.2.0", "configurations": [ { "type": "extendscript-debug", "request": "attach", // "name": "Adobe FrameMaker 2022—-main", "hostAppSpecifier": "framemaker-17.0", "engineName": "main", } ] }But if I click eval in Adobe, I still have to select FM 2022 from the drop-down.Possibly related, I don't recall setting a workspace, I just put the launch.json file in a .vscode folder beneath my scripts folder. Perhaps that is the issue? Thanks in advance!
I got the classic book vs. file numbering error while updating a book. I checked the box to hide the messages for the rest of the update. I’d like to turn it back on. I could swear it used to be in Preferences > Global > Alerts, but can’t seem to find it. Does anyone know how to get to it?
FrameMaker 17 fails to install on two machines. When I run set-up.exe on a Dell laptop with Windows 11 Education, I get a message “You need to turn on User Account Control first”. I will talk to our IT support. When I run set-up.exe on a Macbook Pro with M4 chip, Tahoe 26.3.1 and Parallels 26.2.2 with Windows 11, I get a message “Installer is corrupt.” I read in posts from 2021 that FrameMaker doesn’t run on Apple chips, so this may be why? Someone suggested running set-up.exe silent=1 in cmd in admin mode. That didn’t help. Please help.
DITA and FrameMaker. We have two different layouts for same information. One template for one column layout and another one with two columns. Despite the template, tables should spread in all columns. One column template works fine.We have made a two column layout with same table style but spanned for both columns. The table is anchored in Body paragraph with format: one column. If I insert a new table, it will be formatted correctly to all columns. But if I open the converted DITA document, tables are in one column.I added a new paragraph format in template with ‘all columns’ layout and changed the edd to use that in table anchoring paragraph style. It does, but still the table does not span in all columns. What have I missed? Thank you in advance.
I am using an autonumber format that is not incrementing the n variable within the same file. The autonumber format is F : Figure <$chapnum>-<n+> \sn. The first instance numbers properly, to wit: Figure 2-1. A second instance of the paragraph style delivers Figure 2.1 again. It appears that the n value is not getting updated. I have made sure that the paragraph numbering property is set to “Continue numbering from Previous Paragraph in Book” and I have updated the book innumerable times. This is happening with all numbering series: F for Figures, T for Tables.Anybody got any ideas? Thanks in advance...Bill
