I have a legacy AppleScript that works with InDesign 2024, but has since stopped working with the newer versions. The programmer who wrote the original script is no longer at the agency and the need to fix the script has grown greater due to InDesign 2024 no longer being available. The script takes an open InDesign file and writes out two separate results: one with bleeds and one without, each page separated out into indvidual files, and the names representative of the content. I know it has something to do with POSIX paths and aliases, but can't figure out how to update the script. on SaveAsEPS(indd) set Bleed to "24pt"set OutlineText to true set ScoreLine to 12set CutLine to 24 set thePrintDirName to "SaveAsEPS" tell application "Adobe InDesign 2024"-- tell application id "com.adobe.InDesign"set inddFolder to file path of inddset inddName to name of indd--set PDFPreset to PDF export preset named "[High Quality Print]" end tell -- the following sets
I’m currently working on a multi-page document in Adobe InDesign and was wondering if there’s an efficient way to automatically generate a table of contents. My document uses multiple headings and paragraph styles, and I’d like the table of contents to update automatically if page numbers or text change. I’m especially interested in best practices for setting it up correctly from the start and avoiding common issues like incorrect page references or missing headings. Any step-by-step guidance or tips from experienced users would be really helpful.
Feature SummaryIntroduce inset spacing controls for graphic/image frames and undefined frames in Adobe InDesign, similar to existing text frame inset functionality. Problem StatementInDesign currently allows inset spacing only within text frames. When designers create callout elements—particularly those with rounded or curved corners—this limitation introduces workflow inefficiencies and layout compromises. Specifically, when rounding the corners of a text frame, the curved geometry affects the inset behavior, forcing designers to rely on a single, uniform inset value rather than allowing independent control per side (top, right, bottom, left). This makes it difficult to achieve precise, visually balanced padding—especially in asymmetrical or compact callout designs. Current WorkaroundTo maintain control and visual accuracy, designers often:Create an undefined (or graphic) frame as the visual backgroundPlace a separate text frame on topManually align and adjust spacingGr
Anyone know if there are plans for InDesign to support CMYKOGV?(as of 21.1 it is not supported) Certification was completed back in 2021 after conclusion of a research project. In essence expanded color gamut offset printing is the idea of increasing the color space of CMYK using 3 additional colors (orange, green, violet). CMYKOGV as characterized by FOGRA 55 is proofable using Epson SureColor printers (P7570, P9570). I have seen several printers already offering 7c offset print. These days it's basically to cut down on cost (to achieve almost complete Pantone coverage without having to resort to actually spot colors). A first viable compatibility step would be for InDesign to export CMYKOGV in PDF/X-3/X-1a as 4C + spot color plates, since FOGRA 55 is based on FOGRA 51. The obvious missing piece is for InDesign to actually support CMYKOGV, which in itself is going to be quite a journey as the color model is everything but intuitive. Maybe the use of
Since the last major upgrade (version 21), InDesign intermittently fails to display palette menus when I click the appropriate button. Changing the size of the application window refreshes the interface, and the palette menu will be then display properly. Often I have to minimize and then maximize the window many times per day as a temporary fix. Upgrading to version 21.1 has not resolved the issue. Resetting InDesign's preferences didn't fix the issue, and I'd prefer not to revert to a previous version of InDesign because I don't think I'd be able to access files created with the newest version. I have also completed these steps:Please rename the CEP folder to CEP.old from this location:Windows: C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\AdobeIf there's no change, also rename the UXP folder to UXP.old from these locations:Windows: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Windows: C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe The above solution was found here:https://community.adobe.com
Our brand font is Montserrat, which is an Adobe Font. I have the whole suite installed and I use it across all apps. When I link Illustrator files where I've used Montserrat into InDesign documents, it shows that the font is missing, even though Illustrator itself doesn't have an issue with the font. It's not a huge issue as everything appears okay, but I hate the error message on the bottom of the screen. I've checked my Font Book (I'm on a Mac) and I don't have any other versions of the font installed outside of Adobe Fonts, so there shouldn't be a conflict there. Based on the Find/Replace Font box inside InDesign, it looks like maybe an issue with the font naming between the two apps? Inside Illustrator I'm using Montserrat Regular, which shows up fine in the find/replace box, but it shows it's missing "Montserrat" alone, no other weight distinction. How can I fix this discrepancy? Screenshot 2026-01-20 at 12.19.28 PM.png
I have previously added a particular custom font and now it is no longer working properly. I have tried to remove the font and upload it again, but then it says the file is already downloaded. When I go into indesign, it will let me type one letter of the custom font and then the rest is highlighted in pink. Also, if I delete that one letter and then try to type it again, the pink highlight shows up again. Any ideas?? [Moved from the CC Desktop forum by moderator]
Was kann man dagegen machen?Brauche dringend Hilfe! Danke!
The oldest version customer service can offer is 2023, but I need 2022. Is that possible Adobe decide what can I downoload or not, and for how long? I'm a long term user and I'm really upset... What can I do? Of course I need it now. <Title renamed by moderator>
According to thisSolved: Re: InDesign 2026 typing text in text box makes so... - Adobe Product Community - 15607922There is an inDesign 21.2Since I am having this issue of text disappearing, how do I get the newer version. I have 21.1, and that is all that is available.
I have the latest update 21.1 and ever since I have been having issues converting pages to PDF from a file I am creating using InDesign. When I try to convert certain pages to PDF, it either will create the PDF but it it is corrupt and when I try to create the PDF again, it says there is a background task running and that task is preventing me from doing anything else. Ultimately, I have to End Task and restart the program. It will work for a bit then I will have the same issue again. This is happening daily. I have not been able to pinpoint which background task is causing the problem. Next time it happens, I will take screenshots of the messages. Running on PC, Windows 11 v23H2
What do I do if InDesign hangs constantly on a certain document, whenever I touch anything in it? Just spinning wheel forever (mac, latest everything)?
For several months now, InDesign has botten increasingly non-sponsive when navigating between pages or zooming in. This is occuring in both InDesign 2024 and 2025. When I page down, the next page gets highlighted in the Pages panel, but the page displayed in the main window does not change. GPU Performance is currently turned off. But even when it is on, this behavior persists. This is occuring across all my documents. I've been using these same documents for years, without issue. The documents are not large, all less than 10 MB. Has anyone else experienced InDesign lagging? What can be done to resolve this?
I am running the latest version (21.1 reinstalled today) of Adobe ID on windows 11 So a few days ago all of my templates and adobe ID files started failing to save and then crashing loosing my work. I googled and some suggested to do a "save as" instead. This usually works, but is this something "adobe" or is it because im working on sverla computers and saving stuff in my drop box? Today I even tried to create a new document, nothing special, same thing happened as soon as i tried to do a save stever47522966_0-1768938062930.png [Moved by moderator from the CC Desktop Bugs forum]
I have never seen this happen before, and I'm at a loss. Perhaps it's a bug in the new 2026 version? A handful of pages within my 240-page document turned gray about a month into working on this project, and their page numbers now say PB instead of the page number. They don't look gray when looking at the Pages panel, only when scrolling through the document. When I export to a PDF, those gray pages are white and completely blank -- the text does not show at all, though it is still showing on the document in Normal and Preview modes. I have turned off InDesign and re-opened the app and the file, but those pages are still gray. I have included three screen shots (two of InDesign and one of the view in Acrobat) in the hope that someone can help solve this mystery!
Admittedly, it has been some time since I have used data merge, many years ago for a particuarl client, lately not so much. To get up to speed again, searched online for a few answers... most notably answers coming from people struggling to get it to work properly. And finding answers on non-Adobe pages with tips on how things break and what to do. Frustrating. I have a book prohect that has lists at the back of items that are formatted in a table format with about a dozen cells. The cells are not just columns, that would have been easy, can't do it that way. I have two wider cells that are split horizontally to place content - see attached. I got the data merge set up to work - placing the tags from the .csv headers is the easy part. Where things exploded is when I actually merge the document. If I have one table set up and merge the .csv file, even with "multiple records per page" selected as the option to import, I get 495 pages with just one table per page.
Any guidance appreciated on how to enter numbers in squares without constructing the square? All the responses seem to be for squared number superscripts, which is not the same. Also any idea how to search fonts for these characters? There are no repertoire lists any more as far as I can tell.
Keep on getting this message:ML5FF4_0-1768941692479.pngI click ok, and then:ML5FF4_1-1768941762351.png I've tried re-installing three times... Help?(21.1 x64 on Win 11, all requirements fulfilled)Thanks,Heather
I’d like to request a built‑in Dictation button in Adobe InDesign.Currently, macOS Voice Control and system dictation do not reliably work inside InDesign’s text frames. Dictation works in other macOS apps (Notes, TextEdit, Mail, etc.), but InDesign does not consistently expose text fields in a way that Voice Control can recognize. This creates a major accessibility barrier for users who rely on voice input for typing or navigation. A simple Dictation button in the Control bar or Properties panel — similar to what many native macOS apps offer — would provide:A guaranteed, app‑level way to trigger dictationBetter compatibility with macOS accessibility toolsA more inclusive workflow for users with motor disabilitiesA fallback when system‑level dictation fails to activate inside text framesThis would make InDesign significantly more accessible and usable for voice‑only users.Thank you for considering this accessibility improvement.
As of 2026, I'm no longer able to duplicate my documents from the home screen using the 3 dots beside the name of the document. The dots just aren't there anymore. The "Save a Copy" ability is still there in File, but it's permanently greyed out. Searching in the Help bar Restarting the app doesn't change anything. I duplicate files all the time and it's a pain to not have this feature. Anything I can do?
I'm so tired of of constantly having to clear paragraph styles. I'll clear them but then when I export the file, the same spots are highlighted again as overridden. When I highlight the offending text, it doesn't even flag (+) it as having an override. I have to select an entirely different paragraph style and reapply the correct one to clear it. Only to have it reappear once I export the file. Screenshot 2026-01-20 at 10.02.13 AM.png
I am using Windows 11 Enterprise v24h2 on a 13th Gen intel core with 128MB graphics card and 32 GB RAM running InDesign v21.0. I have a document that suddenly starting swiching to the French dictionary, but only within 3 sections/objects. I have checked all the paragraph, character and object styles and all are set to USA English. The preferences are set to USA English. But when I run a Spell Check, it defaults to the French dictionary. I have tried restarting the program and resetting the workspace. Neither worked. I tried restarting the computer and that did not work. Even when I change the dictionary within the Spell Check modal it still reverts to French. So far this is only happening in this one document and I need to go to press today!
I'm having this issue where when I copy a text box from a document and paste it into a new document, or even within the same document, and the text shifts its position down within the text box and usually gives me the red dot that means there is cutoff text. This happens within the same indd document as well as between documents. This only happens on my mac mini that I have at my office. It does not happen on my macbook pro or other mac mini that I use at home. The operating systems are the same and both are running the same version of InDesign. It also doesn't matter which file I'm working in. I have looked at the settings for text frame options (baseline) and that isn't the solution. I have reset my InDesign preferences and that hasn't fixed it. Is this a bug that has a fix for it? It's driving me a bit insane.
Since InDesign version 21.0, the following problem occurs with linked WMF files:Text that is “bold” in the WMF file is displayed and printed as “regular” in InDesign. This error did not occur in InDesign versions up to 20.5.1. This behavior can be easily reproduced on both Windows 11 and Windows 10. You can use different fonts for the test, e.g., Minion Pro, Myriad Pro, Times New Roman, Arial, etc. Test instructions:1. Use Illustrator to create a file that contains text in regular, italic, bold, and bold italic.2. Export this file as a WMF file.3. Place the WMF file in InDesign 20.5.1 and InDesign 21.x. Result:In InDesign 20.5.1, all font styles appear correctly (see attachment: TEST InDesign 20.5.1 + Illustrator 30.1.pdf).In InDesign 21.x, bold styles appear incorrectly as regular (see attachment: TEST InDesign 21.1 + Illustrator 30.1.pdf). Has anyone else encountered this problem?
