Hi everyone,Today on two different computers, both running the latest InDesign, I started getting this error every time I edit a file:“InDesign is unable to save this file. We tried, but it appears to be damaged.”Then, when I try to close the file, I get another message:“Could not complete your request because of a database error. The file ‘InDesign Defaults’ is damaged (Error code: 1).”I’ve tried uninstalling and reinstalling InDesign, resetting preferences, testing files saved locally, in the cloud, and on a USB stick, but nothing helps. I can open and save files as long as I don’t make any changes, but once I edit anything, the error appears.Everything worked fine yesterday, and now both computers are affected. Is anyone else seeing this problem, or does anyone know how to fix it?

Cliquez sur OK pour fermer l’application.”En attendant je travaille avec l’ancienne version 20.5.1 qui fonctionne, mais il arrive que celle-ci plante occasionnellement, “Indesign doit fermer” sans raison.Y’a t-il d’autres utilisateurs dans la même situation ?

InDesign version 17.3.0.61 on Mac. Shift key stops working when trying to scale proportionally. Tried almost all of the suggestions as far back as 2017 and nothing is working. I don't have Web Root. Not using Spotify. I've tried shift/command, Shift/option/command. I've tried a slow click. Tried deleting or turning off extensions that I thought were causing it. I stopped using Chrome. Sometimes it happens with Microsoft Word open and sometimes it doesn't.I have to restart to get it cleared. Which would indicate there is still something running in the background that is the conflict-I just can't seem to find it.Any chance someone has recently found something new to try for 2022. 

I’m new to InDesign, but have made books in other products. I have chapters all made with the same template and parent settings. I put them in a book. I want the chapters to start on odd or even pages, depending on how the chapters lay out. The chapters that start on odd pages look great. But the ones that start on even pages have the inner and outer margins backwards. Is there a way to set up my parents so a chapter will have the margin (and page headers and the like) be correct for whether it winds up starting on the right or the left? (So that if I add a page, say, to an early chapter, the change ripples correctly through the rest of the chapters.) I’ve attached my first test case with four chapters. Note the third one, “Illness and Injuries” starts on the left, but the margins are set for a right side page. Thanks in advance.

Hello,I’m working with Adobe InDesign 2026 on macOS and need proper hyphenation for Serbian Cyrillic.In earlier InDesign versions it was possible to add custom Hunspell dictionaries (.aff/.dic) via the Presets/Dictionaries folders, which would then appear in the Language menu and enable hyphenation.In InDesign 2026 I can no longer find a Presets/Dictionaries folder inside the application bundle, and placing valid Hunspell files (e.g. sr_Cyrl_RS.aff / sr_Cyrl_RS.dic) in user-level dictionary folders has no effect. No Serbian language option appears in the Language list after restarting the application.My questions: Does InDesign 2026 still support adding new spelling/hyphenation languages via custom Hunspell dictionaries? If yes, what is the exact supported method and folder location on macOS? If not, is Serbian Cyrillic planned to be added officially in a future update, or is there an alternative Adobe-supported workflow for adding new languages? Is this behavior specific to cert

I find with recent releases and particularly 21.x, that the light blue bounding box, especially when dashed, and especially when the document grid (light gray) is showing, and especially on my very high-res monitor, I have difficulty seeing precisely which frame is selected. A darker blue, or a thicker line, would fix this. I have searched the Preference but found no way to do either. Any help appreciated.  

When selecting a color from the color picker- the resulting color in the workspace is much duller and never what I chose in the color picker. Even when I use the color dropper to get the color again, the color code is different than what I chose in the first place, and much duller.  This is the first color I selected: #f9a465 But THIS is the resulting color in the workspace. #e2a771 Why does this happen? Do my settings need to be edited to fix this?

I’m running the latest version on a MacBook Pro with Tahoe 26.2.So far I've noticed:Undo is unavailable (grayed out in the menu) Extreme lag time when importing large images Cursor gets stuck in the previous mode. (For example, if I switch to the magnifying glass to  enlarge the view then go back to the regular arrow, it stays in the magnifying glass. 

I feel like the live cloud connection in InDesign is making the program slow as molasses and I don’t use it.I don’t and won’t ever use Adobe cloud, so how do I terminate that live connection?When I click the “Connected” notice on my “Home” page when the program’s open (no files open) it doesn’t give any option to disconnect. It does show that I don’t have any files in the cloud and have used 0% storage. How do I close the connection???

Currently having an issue with my undo/history function. I seem to only be able to go back 2 or 3 commands before the entire history disappears. pls help!

I’m experiencing two ongoing issues with InDesign’s Review feature that have been consistently reproducible for the past three months. Issue 1: Review links fail to update on larger documents When uploading a publication for review, I can no longer update the existing review link. A persistent error appears stating: “There was a problem updating the artefact.” This workflow functioned reliably until approximately three months ago. To rule out local issues, I tested the same document and process on a second machine, with identical results. Through testing, I’ve found that if I halve the document size (testing both the first 30 pages and the last 30 pages independently to rule out a problematic element), the review link does update successfully. This suggests the issue is related to document scale rather than specific assets. The publications I work on are graphically intensive magazines, typically around 2.5GB in total size. After installing the ROBOTO fonts, I received an error message from Creative Cloud and then all Roboto fonts generated errors. Now when I open any Indesign file, all Roboto fonts are not recognized.

Suddenly in InDesign, it is only possible to undo three times; likewise, the history palette only records 3 actions. There don't seem to be any issues with RAM and space on the computer. This seems to have occurred after the update to InDesign 21.1. The operating system is Windows 11 Pro.

Since this post seems to be marked as resolved after the Adobe Community update and it isn’t resolved, I’m creating a new post and linking to the old one. All the relevant information can be found here (at least all of the information that survived the Adobe Community update -- there are several missing posts). Long story short -- when you install Windows Security updates, some system fonts -- Times New Roman for me -- throw a missing font error in InDesign. This error only goes away if you uninstall the Windows Security update. More detailed info can be found in the linked post.This issue has been going on for literally months, since last November, and we’ve got bupkis to show for it -- less than bupkis now that some of the original posts have been nerfed with the Adobe Community update and the original thread appears dead. Adobe. Please. Help. This is beyond frustrating now... 

All my books (several hundred) are formatted using the Times New Roman TTF font. The new version of InDesign 21.0 changes that to Times New Roman OTF.Fortunately, version 20.0 is still installed. I know from experience that strange things can happen in updates.. I'd like to know the convention for naming .idlk files generated by InDesign.When opening an indd file, I want to determine if the file is already in use by someone else, but this is problematic due to the idlk naming convention.The idlk file name follows the following convention:~<file name>~<Hash>.idlkIf the file name is too long, it will be truncated.The standard length for truncation is 18 characters, but it seems to vary depending on the user's encoding.For example, alphanumeric characters are 18 characters, but in other languages, the length is not simply the number of characters.I'd like to know if this is determined by the user's system encoding or if there are fixed encoding conventions. Furthermore, if there are multiple long files, the truncated file names will all be the same.In this case, I need to check the hash value, but I don't have the information to determine the hash value.I'd like to know the criteria for determining the hash value or the generation con

For quite some time now my InDesign has been taking a long time to open. I think it started doing this a couple updates ago. I have been dealing with it, but now it has become annoying.When I open InDesign, it takes over 30 seconds to open.In the past it opened in less than 10 seconds.What has changed is causing this issue.I am running Windows 11 Pro.I have an I9 processor with 24 cores.With 64 GB of memory.The hard drive is 2 TB and I am using about ¼ of that, so there is plenty of space.What can I do to get this to open quickly, like it used to? Rick

I'm laying out my thesis. I copied and pasted chapter by chapter into InDesign, and I had no problems with the footnotes. But when I got to the next chapter, it gave me a random number. The text between the third and fourth chapters isn't connected; InDesign reads them as separate texts. How do I fix this?

My document is a 24x30 poster that mimics a newspaper layout with several columns. It is essentially a collection of many, one paragraph, text snippets in Myriad, Regular, 9.5 pt, with paragraph titles in Myriad semi-bold, 10 pt. Exporting to a PDF, High Quality Print, results in a file size about 250k. When a local copy/print store makes a laser print on regular generic paper, the text does not look all that crisp. So maybe it’s the paper? Or, the file size? Previously, I had printed a similar, text-only, large PDF, created by Illustrator… and the file size was around 2.5 MB and the text looked good. Once my final proofreading is done, I will have a final print made on better paper. But at $35 a pop, I wanted to be sure that I am doing everything correctly at the pre-press stage. What settings are needed to have text printed optimally on a large poster? *this is my first project with ID, but I am experienced with PS and AI.

My file gets stuck loading whenever I try and open it. I’m successfully able to open other PDFs, files larger than this one, & files within the same project. I was able to open this file 20min before Adobe stopped working with it. So far, I’ve tried the following:updating adobe resetting font files turning off OneDrive link to prevent it looping to find missing image links deleting/re-installing InDesign resetting Adobe’s recovery files (Windows) I’ve looked through every folder on my computer for any backup & I cannot find one anywhereIt throws no error codes, please help me. Hi there, If I place a grayscale bmp in InDesign will it print okay? I’m working with a brand that wants all their photos to look like duotones. So I’m turning the photo into a grayscale, saving as bmp, placing in Indesign and then colourizing it by choosing one brand colour as the background colour and the other as the “ink” colour (anything black in the photo will be this colour). Looks fine in Indesign. I’ve done test exports to pdf and it looks fine. and If I open up a page in Illustrator of the exported print pdf it looks fine, and I can see the placed BMP has been converted to a CYMK object which is fine for me. Their brand book suggests taking a grayscale image and then doing mode> bitmap and using dither, and then saving as a tiff, and following the same process in InDesign with colouring. However, when i tried the method, the preview in InDesign looked awful (even though high res preview is on) and the exports didn’t look as good (weird pdf artifacts that disappear when zoo

Ever since the last updated, drop shadows aren't displaying properly when exporting PNGs from Indesign. There are a couple of threads, but no solutions, It's becoming annoying, as the workaround is to close the app completely and reopen the file. Totally messes the workflow.
